Still Not Eating Breakfast?

Newsletters

As the old adage goes, we should eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, and dinner like a pauper. These wise words not only emphasize the importance of not skipping breakfast, but that it should be the most significant meal of the day.

Studies are showing that this style of eating, shifting the focus of your calories to earlier in the day, makes weight loss a little easier. But while a nutritious and wholesome meal will keep you feeling fuller well into your busy day, it doesn't give you the green light for bacon and eggs every morning.

A breakfast fit for a king would include lean protein, such as lean meats, egg whites, low fat soy and/or dairy products, whole grain carbohydrates, and fruit.

For his noonday meal, a smart prince would be sure to include whole grains, fruit and vegetables. And it's not at all un-princely to make your own lunch and take it to work with you -- you'll have complete control over how it is prepared and how many calories it contains.

A wise pauper, who'd already eaten lean meats or other suitable proteins at breakfast or lunch, would base dinner on vegetables, legumes, whole grains and fruits.

So don't hit that snooze button! Kings and queens, princes and princesses, it works for all. Get up early and make a wholesome breakfast, then turn every day into a riches to rags story and you'll soon fit into your royal attire with ease.
