It's not the Cookie, It's the Bag of Cookies!
Newsletters
You didn't gain excess pounds eating a cookie or two every once in awhile, but you might have if you mindlessly ate the whole bag.
To lose weight you need to be mindful of how much and how often you eat high calorie foods like cookies, ice cream, potato chips and soft drinks. Follow these simple steps to keep your weight loss under control:
- Avoid absent-minded eating of high calorie snacks. Keep them to a minimum, and only eat them when they are a planned part of your food for the day.
- Determine what your serving size will be, and remove it from the package or container. Eat it from a plate or bowl, and when it's gone, you're done.
- Make a conscious effort to enjoy your food, to smell and taste it. It's best to avoid eating in front of the TV or while busy with other activities. But if you can't make time to give your full attention to your food, be sure to follow the point just above!
- Eat slowly and chew each bite 15-20 times. You'll enjoy it more, and you'll feel full eating less food.
- Learn not to feel like you need dessert. Make it a special treat, rather than a habit after every meal.
- When you have extra sweets, freeze them -- if they won't tempt you from the freezer -- or give them away or throw them out.
If you have a high calorie treat, have only one serving, eat it slowly, and enjoy it!
