Falling Short of Your Long Term Goals

Newsletters

Do you find yourself falling short of your long term diet and weight loss goals?

Peter, owner of caloriesperhour.com, writes, "Statistics show that interest in diet and weight loss declines in the fall, after the swimsuit season. And it declines even further during the holidays, when people don't want to think about what they're eating or what it's doing to their bodies. Then with New Year's resolutions the interest peaks again."

This fall, don't leave your efforts flapping in the wind. Remind yourself of all you've accomplished by making a list of the improvements you've already made to your eating and exercise habits. Then commit to continuing with these improvements, and set your sights on small, daily achievements that will lead you further towards your goals through the fall and the coming year.

Some goals you may want to work towards:

  • Eating breakfast every day and not skipping meals.

  • Eating a variety of foods, including plenty of fruits, vegetables and whole grains.

  • Limiting your intake of saturated fat, cholesterol and sodium.

  • Limiting the amount of sugar in your diet. High-sugar foods are typically high in calories and low in nutrients.

  • Limiting liquid calories. Try to choose whole fruits rather than juices, and avoid sugary soft drinks and alcohol.

Of course, the most important goal is to continue making steady progress throughout the year -- throughout your lifetime.
