I really need to join the Y for the cold months as my condition always declines in the cold months.  I have never used or had any experience with personal trainers, so I wonder what everybodies opinion is of them.  Is word of mouth the only reliable way to find a good one?

Well they are good to start off with. Tell them what you want and they can make up a routine. Then you do that for a while then go back to them when you wanna change it up. Then at that point you really don't need one cause winter would be over :P Plus you should be good enough to figure out what works for you. I got a routine that got me in the best shape of my life no trainer involved what so ever. I have wrote it up many times if you want you a copy of it. If you are not familiar with weight training then I suggest have a trainer show you proper form. As for finding a trainer yeah ask around and observe trainers at the Y and go from there

Hellraiser, I have taken an interesting approach to losing wieght this time, and it is working.  I am doing a modified Mediteranean diet and a lot of walking, but no strength training.  I am within 15 lbs of my goal weight, and hope to be a little underweight by the end of the year.  At that point I want to return to strength training to tone up, but not bulk up.  I think my body has the tendency to bulk up very fast from weight training, and this is the first time I eliminated that from my program, and I have finally had success with weight loss.  Perhaps high repititions at very low weight will be the best for my goals.

My routine is not really a bulking up one but one that works all parts of the body. I did not bulk up I got really toned up. This was huge help in my 100 lb weight loss. Congrats on your loss and hope you reach your goal. Let me know if you wanna try it out

Hellraiser I did see your routine on another thread and it is not for the faint hearted.  It would certainly take me a while to work up to that.
