It's almost time for the next challenge, everyone!

Here are the guidelines for the Summer weight loss challenge (similar to those of the previous ones):

  1. The challenge will run from Sunday July 5th through Monday 31st August

  2. You may join the challenge at any time beginning July 5th, and late-comers are most welcome. You can even join the challenge in August.

  3. To join the challenge, post your height, starting weight and goal weight.

You may choose any goal you like. But if your goal is to lose more than 16 pounds during the challenge period -- more than two pounds a week -- please explain why you think your goal is realistic.

This website is dedicate to healthy, common sense, lasting weight loss, and does not support crash diets which do not have realistic expectations of producing long-term results.

For more information, please see the Tutorial and the forum topic The Most Likely Reason Your Diet Will Fail.

Your height will be used to display your BMI. Disclosing your height is optional but as incentive to share your height with us, unless told your height I'll just assume you are 5' (1.52m).

  4. Pick a day for your weekly weigh-in, and stick to it a closely as you can. Then post your current weight each week -- or as often as you would like!

You may wish to read:  How Often Should You Weigh Yourself

Those who are not losing weight, and those who are gaining, will receive praise for continuing to participate. It's so easy to run and hide! We've all been there ourselves.

We also know that by participating, they are very likely doing better than they otherwise would be.

  5. The results will be updated every Sunday (or more often) and posted right here just below these instructions, so they will always be easy to find.

We want the challenge stats to be realistic and reflect active challenge members, so anyone not posting for two consecutive weeks will be dropped from the list. But they will be put right back on the next week should they post again.

If you need to withdraw from the challenge, please have the courtesy to post a farewell note or send me a Private Message (PM). Your name will be removed without comment.

  6. You are encouraged to share how you are doing during the challenge, and especially to give each other support. However, to make it easier for me to find your weekly weight, please make sure your weight stands out.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to post them or send me a PM.

Wishing you success and happiness!

Artist John

I'm in!

Height: 5'4"
Starting Weight: 245.3lbs
Goal Weight: 236lbs
Weighing In Day: Fridays

My goal weight will see me enter a lower stone (a stone bracket I haven't seen for about 2 years now). I've recently started slimming world again and swimming 3 times a week, so I hoping I will see a difference on the scales. I should do, I'm knackered from all this exercise! lol

Hi Artist John

I'm so glad you've set this challenge up again as I fell off the bandwagon at the end of the last challenge. (all the build up and stress of the wedding).

After a few weeks of pigging out I'm ready to knuckle down and get going. I want to loose around 14lb for my holiday in September.

I will weigh in tomorrow and keep Sunday as my weigh in day. (I'm dreading that after doing so well pre the wedding)

In Uk terms I weigh 13st 8lbs. There are 14lbs in a stone:grin:

The last time I was 12st anything was when I was in my 20's and I am now 51.

So this challenge I am shooting for a 9lb loss to get into the 12st range which would be huge for me.

The summer months are best for me to lose weight.

74"

Start weight 190.4

goal 181

Thanks for another challenge.  I'm really stoked that meeting my goals for this challenge will mean I'll be weighing in the low 160's.  I haven't seen those numbers in about 15 years.  Okay I'm ready for the challenge.

Good luck everyone!!

That doesn't seem like a very large goal, but I have been loosing about .5 lbs per month and no crash diets for me.  As long as it is going down or holding, I am happy.

I have been doing these challenges for about 18 months now and in all that time have had a slow steady loss.  Thanks so much for the challenges, they have stopped my Yo, Yoing by keeping me focused.  Yes, for challenges!!!

Artist John you are doing a great job.

Ok. I am in! Thank you sooooo much for running an another challenge!

I have no scale at the moment, but I've been weighing myself on some different ones and I will say that:

My starting weight is 63kg (138,6lb)

My height is 160cm (63inch)

My goal is 59kg(129.8lb)

I will way in on ehm... mondays? I have a scale in 8 days so I'll weigh in there.

My height is 65" (5'5" or 1.65m)

Starting weight is 118.9lb (54kg)

Goal weight is 116.7lb (53kg)

(I'll weigh in on Mondays)

If I get there I'll be continuing to do my bit reversing these last 9-odd months of gain followed by loss.

Hello.

Height: 62 inches

Start weight: 127.5

Goal weight: 125.0

Just for my own reference, I actually would like to reach 125.0 by the end of July and simply maintain it for the rest of the challenge.  To do this I must log my calories and exercise every day.

Current weight--131.4,

Not much of a loss but considering what I did last weekend (eat everything in sight) and what I didn't do (any exercise) I am actaully quite happy not to see a gain.

I'd like to join!  I could use some encouragement to be more mindful.

My height is 65" or 5' 5"

My starting weight is 133 lbs.

My goal is to lose 4 pounds so my goal weight is 129 lbs.

My explanation for my goal is that I have a really slow metabolism and if I choose a larger goal I will basically set myself up for failure psychologically.  I get overwhelmed easily and if I feel overwhelmed I will just give up.  So knowing myself as well as I do... 4 pounds is a really good goal for me personally.

Thank you for doing this challenge.  I know they require volunteer work and I very much appreciate it!

The truth is, I should be painting and not typing. It motivates me as well to keep eating clean and exercising. I have tried a diary in the past, but find this more helpful.

Hi, I'd like to get in on this. I'm 72" tall, and as of Sunday July 5th I was 285lbs. My goal is 265 which is slightly more than 2 per week, but very realistic due to how easy it is to lose weight when you are this weight. Anyway, thanks and good luck all.

Hi Tontus

As this is your first challenge I will allow you to shoot for more than 2lb per week.
However in last challenge only two people managed 0.9lb per week the rest were less than that.

Week 1 - down 2 pounds - weighed in at 222.

Does anyone have a certain amount of miles they try to log every week whether it be running, walking, biking, etc...  I'm just curious?  My goal was 30 miles last week, but only managed about 20.

Is it too late to start this challenge? If not, here are my stats/goal:

Ht - 63 inches
Wt - 131.6 lbs (today)
Goal - 110 lbs

Thanks!

Edited to add: Is the goal supposed to be for the end of August or the ultimate goal?
If it's only until the end of August, my goal is 125.6. Thanks again!

The past week has been our city's largest annual celebration, The Calgary Stampede and Exhibition.  It means a week of free pancake and sausage breakfasts all over the city.  And a week of deep fried treats at the fair grounds (hello corn dogs and minidonuts!).  I watched the bull riding and chuck wagon races while chowing down on calorie laden goodies.  So it is with no surprise that I have a gain to report this week.  It was a large gain but the last couple days I've managed to reduce it back down a bit.  176.8

Well, I was 54kg on one of the last 7 days, but to give a more realistic picture of the overall trend I'm going to weigh myself in at 53.5kg = 117.8lb to indicate my belief that I am trending downwards. Since I last posted I came to the realisation that when I thought I was eating 1800 calories I was sometimes eating upwards of 3000 calories and this might (yeah, right) have interfered with my weight loss progress over the past year. For some people, the problem with this root vegetable is principally when it is distilled into vodka. For me, it is when I place the potato in the microwave. Well it is a new dawn.

My computer crashed and I had to reformat it since I couldn't even do system restore or uninstall anything.  That's why I'm a bit late.  though Tues might be a better day to weigh in.

Also we went camping and I've gained a half pound!  It was fun though.  I just need to start eating healthier... soon!

I extremly happy with that. I know my starting weight in here is a little high, because I didn't have a scale and had to go by the last seen number, but now I have a scale and regular updates will follow ;)

I dont know how I did it..I havn't excersized in 3 days, I've been sick! But maybe thats how I lost the weight the last few days...perhaps my diet plan should be to stick around hospitals and open the door for sick people at doctor's offices LOL

I'm a few days early with my weigh in but I really want to change the colour my name is in.  I have made up for my fair ground excess of last week and I'm back down to my  starting weight.  176.2.  Now I can start losing again.

That's a 2 pound loss this time and I am absolutely THRILLED because I have gotten under 170.  Yay!  It's been a long long time since I was in the 160's. My best to everyone on your losses!

Weigh in: 111lbs

Probably cause my fridge has been pretty empty this week! Something exciting happened to me yesterday too, so I was too distracted to eat enough.

Still not go back on track!!! determined to start today. I've got a new set of scales that need a battery (old ones been chucked out) so I don't know what my weight is at the moment!! Probably UP. I'll get a battery today and post my weight tomorrow.......

State of play after 6 days of calories increased from 1800 to 1850: this week the scale is reporting HIGHER numbers than last week on the scale but for now I'm still going to call my 'true' weight at 53.5kg = 117.8lb. If I do gain weight I'd like to believe that it is muscle but this has always been a tricky one for my head. Certainly if my weight is increasing I'll be sticking to this calorie level for some time and not increase it (and perhaps even revert back to 1800).

And here's that graph:

Since most of this week was spent just returning to my starting point after my fair ground naughtiness, I only have the tiniest of losses to report this time.  176.  Only down 0.2 of a pound.  I'm going to need to get more aggressive if I want to meet my goal for this challenge.  Last challenge the weight came off quite easily, this time I'm really having to work at it.

Time to face facts and post.  Weight is 135.5  It's time to do something about it and stop before I go any higher.  In all honesty I really haven't thought about my weight, exercise and eating very much.  I decided to go back to school and my 19 yr old son has developed some health problems so that's where my thoughts have been.  Regardless... I do not want to lose the gains I had made in my health!  And... that's exactly what's been happening unfortunately.

I'm sorry you've been sick ArtistJohn.  I hope you get to feeling better soon.

Thanks Sassy

Don't know whether I have had swine flu:pig:  V tired and bad stomach, headache. Cough etc. Apparently most people only show mild symptoms. My daughter has something as well. It seems to be rampant over here. What's it like in the states?
Hopefully we had our dose and now we are immune if it gets worse:grin: (mutates)

Been eating loads of live yogurt and feeling a bit better today. Eaten a lot healthier as well.

It will take another couple of weeks to get back to my start weight.

Never mind:crying:

I haven't seen anyone sick around here lately, just my son who has an inquinal hernia, but that's not contagious.  Sounds like you're doing the best thing.  That would be my advice to take some probiotics.  I tried some tablets of probiotics called "Primal Defense" that helped me with some digestive problems fairly quickly when I took it 3 times a day.  I also have had help from taking a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in some juice though it was more mild than those tablets.  Sorry it is taking such a toll on you.  Hope you start feeling better soon.  You have to get well before you worry about your weight.

Way to look on the bright side ArtistJohn!  If this new strain of H1N1 follows the pattern of the spanish H1N1 version you've got it made.

This is how it's going in Canada.  Although I don't know anyone personally who has caught it, 1,436 confirmed cases of the swine flu virus have been reported in my province and over 10,000 in all of Canada.  They even had to isolate a ward in my city's Children's Hospital because four people (two staff two children)have come down with it.  Despite the large number of people contracting it, most haven't had to be hospitalized and there have only been 3 deaths in my province and 45 in the whole country (and most of those have had pre-existing medical conditions).  They are a little worried that the situation will worsen come fall/winter when everyone moves their social activities indoors and schools are back in session, not to mention the consequences if it mutates into a more deadly strain.  Free public vaccinations should be available in October after the regular flu shots are given out.  Normally I wouldn't even worry about it (despite the World Health Organization raising the Pandemic alert phase to it's highest level), but there's nothing like becoming a parent to make you paranoid.

Well it's official, I have fallen off the wagon and the wagon has gone on without me :crying:.

Current weight 134... way up, even from where I started.

Well, I haven't given up and I am in this until the end so it's time for me to suck it up and get back on track. If I run maybe I can still catch that wagon .

Hmmm...I weighed myself today and my weight is way down.  Almost two pounds down from yesterday.  Of course I'm not going to post it since it's not my realistic weight just evidence that I didn't drink nearly enough water yesterday.  I just think that it's interesting how much our weight can fluctuate on a day to day basis.

HIKER! Dont beat yourself up just think of all the FUN things you have been doing lately and also how you and your hubb were goin to have this final weekend blowout before you started to help him get on track! You will get yourself back on track! Just take your time and be easy on yourself.....like you said its not every day you get to the stadium for the hot dogs and goodies!!!! :)

as for me, suprisingly i am doing ok! I am fluctuating but I am still at 159. :)

ArtistJohn, I have swollen glands under my chin/jaw that are very painful.  I hope I'm not getting sick.  Did you give me your swine flue?  ***teasing*** I should have known joining this weightloss challenge came with risks!

Guess I'll go see what I can take... probiotics? Vitamin C? Iodine?  Echinechea?  I better find something.  I hate being sick.

61,2kg!(134.9 lb)

It's been a very long time since I had such a big loss, and I know this for a fact, so I am very very pleased. And surprised!

And good luck to those who are struggling. We all know how that feels, so hang in there!

Hey ArtistJohn, we are riff with it in Cornwall. It's everywhere! My sister in law has it, so has her best friend and her cousins children. I know plenty of people who have had it over the last few weeks.

I got a bit rough for a few days, but its hard to tell if its just being under the weather or mild symptoms? Hopefully just mild symptoms and like you said it it mutates, I'll be better off for it?!

Hi to 3 new peeps. There is only 5 weeks of this challenge left and you are welcome to join, but;

Your goals are 9 and 10 lbs. If you look at our table above and last few challenges the highest losers lose at 0.9 of a lb per week Maintaining a loss of 0.9 lb for 8 weeks is tough . The only people who lose more are the bigger guys.

If you want to change your goal to a more achievable goal let me know.

This is a marathon not a sprint:grin:

Today's weight is 126.4 lbs. I think most of my loss this week was water weight. I'm guessing the pace will start to slow down next week.

Lami, good for you, we are all here to support you. I think most if not all of us have been where you're at. I was off badly and just got back on track this last week and I know I can easily slip again. We are trying to change a life style and that isn't easy but you have the motivation going and I bet you will do it. You are right, we all have to start somewhere...baby steps.

A suggestion for those all you can eat places, if it is the type where you serve yourself swap the salad plate and the dinner plate. In other words use the big plate and make a big salad (dressing on the side) and then use the smaller plate for the rest of the food. It gives you a lot less space for the bad stuff and you fill up on salad. Anyeay, just a thought.

I'm still maintaining my 1lb challenge loss at 53.5kg (117.8lb) but this is proving to be increasingly more difficult and the graph below tells the story. I'm also including a rambling paragraph from my diary narrative.

First thing in the morning 1.6 kilos of potatos remain and will likely all go today. Mum probably still reluctant to dig again in the allotment as last time a fair proportion proved to be disappointingly small. I could buy a large sack or a small bag in the market or (shock horror) try a few potato-free days with more calories coming fom wholegrains (popcorn, bread, crackers, muesli, oats etc.), dried fruit (dates and raisins) and legumes (lentils). After 13 days at 1850 calories I'm a bit disappointed as just sticking to 53.5kg feels like a challenge, never mind seeing lower numbers - I am torn as things looked better at 1800 but then again much of that period was sans potatos - I'm comparing apples and oranges (and potatos, ha ha). Certainly if you asked me a year or two ago if I had a problem with potatos I would have looked at you in a funny way "you must be kidding". What would make me happier - a scale that plays by my rules or more potatos? Not that my behaviour around the scale is entirely sane, it is all very well wanting to increase my strength and gain muscle but I want to do this without gaining any weight (hello?). Why is it that my self-worth is tied up with the ability to reduce my weight in such an irrational manner? Not much difference between 1850 and 1800 so if 1850 is acceptable for strength surely 1800 will be as well? I am undecided. Had this 30kg batch of potatos for exactly 3 weeks - an average of 1.4kg consumed per day.

10stone - 13lb which = 153lb (I'm glad to say I miscalculated before)

FROM TODAY I'M ON A MISSION TO EAT SENSIBLY......WILL REPORT WEIGHT NEXT MONDAY

Up a pound, but I'm actually pleased that I didn't gain more. These past few week I've been moving--no gym, no scale, no internet to track my food, and eating out most of the time. :pig:

Artist John, don't pull out....that is the whole point of having a weight loss community...if we only have successes then where is the challenge? We are all here because we are fighting a lifetime battle and I doubt anyone here thinks it will always be downhill. On top of just every day life, you've been sick...don't be so hard on yourself. I know that is easier said the done. Why is it we are so hard on ourselves and so forgiving of others? Some weird quirk of human nature I guess. Anyway, instead of being down on yourself, or even worse quitting , think what you would say to any one of us if we were thinking of giving up and put those same words back at yourself.  I don't want to preach but I really do believe I have had the success I've had (and I have had times I back slide) but the success is due in a large part to these challenges and this community. You've lost a battle....now go win the war!

Hello everyone.  Hope all is well with everyone.  How are you feeling ArtistJohn?  Getting better I hope!

My weight is 134.0 and the important thing is after a week I finally feel as though I'm getting back in the habit of watching what I eat.  My food choices over all are much better compared to when I started the challenge.

ArtistJohn, you were very wise in saying 'it's not a sprint, it's a marathon.'  I think viewing it that way can be a key tool in whether or not we are successful in actually achieving our goal in the long term.  What is that other saying?  'You never fail as long as you keep trying'It is absolutely true!

Hiker and I must have been posting around the same time.  I just wanted to add a thought regarding Hiker's post.

I agree with everything that was said, but I'd also like to add if I were in ArtistJohn's position my instinct would be exactly the same as his.  I'm sure most of the population is like this.  We are all very self conscious and don't see things the way other people see them.  So I can completely understand the idea of wanting to drop out.  In fact the same thought crossed my mind when my weight went up 2.5 lbs over my starting weight, but then I remembered I was doing this for myself - not because of what other people think of me.  I am doing it to get back in the habit of being mindful of what I eat and making progress towards being and feeling healthier.

I love this forum because of all the kind people on here.  We all truly rejoice in each others progress and put our judgements aside.  We all know what it's like to struggle.

I agree with Hiker, any progress I've made has been the fruit of the compassion and knowledge that others have shared in this :cph: community.

Hi guys and thanks for your kind and insightful words. You are both absolutely right. As your man Kennedy said we do these things because they are difficult not because they are easy. I am getting there and trying to think positive and take it a day at a time.

Eaten really well today so far and got vegetable curry for dinner. Aiming to start weighing food again on Wednesday and seeing some move in the right direction.

Getting my head round making this challenge a matter of getting back to start weight and getting healthy.

mmmmnnn... What is vegetable curry?  That sounds good!  Is 'curry' a certain way of seasoning things or is it a way of cooking?  What is it exactly?

Carrots
Tinned or fresh tomatoes
Lentils

Hi Artist John,

Glad you've reconsidered.........getting back on track is hard after a relapse and you've not been well. I've been feeling fine and still find it hard to get my head into the right place. But you know quitting is the easy option, dig in and like others have said don't be so hard on yourself. You're curry sound delicious.

Thanks Lami. I've had my first ok day for a while. Good food and a good walk too:grin:

On the curry front at the last minute my wife put yesterdays cold chicken in with veggies and I think it makes it yummy. Just an idea for the leftovers.

In fact some Mondays we just curry up all of Sundays leftovers.

Weighed myself today and currently weigh 187.1 lbs.

Almost at my  goal weight and have a month to go.

Sorry to hear that you are still sick John -- stick in there and that weight will come off in no time. Once you return to your full physical state, the weigh will melt off quickly. Stick with it.

Please make sure your weight stands out

150lbs

Write weight and then drag mouse over numbers (highlights in blue) then change numbers and colour.

Apologies in advance. I'll try once again

Just change the color before you type the numbers, and change it back to black after you type the numbers. Hit reply, then look above the text block. You should see a drop down menu that already says black. Hit the down arrow to make the drop down menu appear and select red. You can also change the size the same way using the numbers to the left of the color menu.

Thanks everyone for trying to help me get this problem sorted. It is so annoying that I can't seem to do a simple task like change size and colour. I know I said I wasn't very comp. lit. but I'm not usually that bad. I do know how to change font, size and colour and it usually works any other time. It could be I don't know how to use this MacBook!!!

I'll persevere and eventually get it sorted.

Artist John Sorry my weight will not stand out until I get to the bottom of this.

Lami, I'm not sure if it's the same thing but I was not able to use the bold or underline buttons, it would give me an error every time but Nir told me it might be because I had changed from explorer 7.0 to 8.0 so I removed 8.0 and went back to 7.0 on one of my computers and sure enough that was the problem. Right now I'm on my lap top and I can't use those features but I have no problem now on the PC which is back at 7.0. You may have a different problem but I thought I'd let you know one more possible fix.

Just to let EVERYONE know it is my Macbook laptop and not my incompetence!!!! I'm using my work laptop and I can change the size and colour.   It's good to get to the bottom of the problem.  If ever I see little abbreviation again I'll know exactly what's wrong.

BIG HUGE THANKS TO EVERYONE TO TRIED TO HELP.

When last on the scales I weighed

152lb

Since I just signed up for this. I am not making an official weigh in until next friday...

Hope that is ok with everyone...

My been monitoring my eating habits the last few days and I seem to have an afternoon binging problem going on. So, I am going to try and work on that this week and see what kind of difference that makes in my weight..

See you all next friday..

Ah Ah found a way of getting myself of the bottom of the league table by sorting by BMI.

Will have a week of tallest to shortest and get myself to the top of the table:grin::cool:

Weight update(posting a day late)

7-30-09 8:00 AM

:shock:347.20lbs:shock:

Had a sorta slow week as far as weight loss in concerned..Not as much as i have been having..but I guess 2.8lbs is a lot better than nothing..And a WHOLE lot better than +3 pounds! lol

Hey John, not that it really matters, but My height is 6'3''(i know i posted 6'2'' but that was just a guess, i had a friend measure me)

But you have me at 72 inches which is 6' even. So i should be at 75inches!!! I just dont like seeing my BMI higher than it should be!! Come on John I've been working really hard for the last couple of months and you're lying about my BMI!! Thats not very nice!

Hi Clagger. Will sort it asap. I was proud of being the tallest, but alas no more:crying:

You shot from top to bottom on bmi. Give it a couple of days and I will revert to weight lost and put you back on top:grin: I hate being bottom.

Your doing fine and remember the old saying it's a marathon and not a sprint. You are doing good, keep it up:cool:

ok so looking at the chart that you have very well illustrated, most of the members of this challenge are of a healthy bmi.. i'll have to check the range again, but goes to show that no one is ever happy with what and who they are, including myself.. :duck:

Weight today is:

126.6

I'm up 0.2 lbs from last week. I expected the weight loss to slow down significantly, since you always lose more when you first start a diet, but I didn't think that I'd actually gain. I've been eating about the same amount of calories a day since I started, but I guess I'll have to cut back more if I want the weight loss to continue. Have others had this experience?

Whitegremlin   the range for normal bmi is 18.5 - 24.9.
For me and only me I feel that I bmi of 22.5 will have me at an ideal weight of 175lbs for a 6' 2" male aged 51 yrs. Others may want to go lower. I am currently 24.9 just in normal.

So there are 30 of us in the challenge and only 6 at 22.5 or below. 22.5 being my target.

Last night I was 55kg at bedtime - this 'morning' I'm 52kg but as I skipped breakfast and waited till 11.30am to weigh myself you could argue I manipulated my circumstances to see a lower number. I'll shout my weigh-in as the mid-point = so that means still 53.5kg (117.8lb). By the way I've increased my calories to the next stage - now 1900 this last few days.

Hmm...I have just read through the post and cane see my last reply?! Think my comp must have been playing up, cause Ive lost other bits and bobs.

Anyways, I kinda wish I didnt have to post, but I only am cause if I dont report something I'll get booted out of the challenge

248lbs ...yuk, yuk, yuk! Not even really sure what I have done that is so bad? Thats 5.3lbs UP! Never mind, I'll take inspiration from Artist John and battle onwards (and hopefully downwards). x

Well this morning I was a dissapointing 165 but I weigh myself daily and have been fluctuating between 161 and 165 all week long (last thursday, 161, friday, 165, saturday, 163, sunday, 161, today, 165).  I've been dehydrated the last week too, which counts for some of the extreme day-to-day fluctuation.  Anyway, my offical reported weight will be the average:

163.

still ick.

I am sorry Artistjohn, I, like I sense others who have gained, was in a hurry to just get that number down and stop looking at it.

Its a strain on me too make it into lbs, in the first challenge I was in Nir also used kg so it wasn't a problem.

Anyway I think I will weigh in tomorrow or wednesday, this is depending on weither or not I weigh myself tomorrow, so let's hope its good

I just spent the long weekend camping.  It was our first time with our almost two year old.  Of course it was medieval camping so it involved wearing floor length dresses and snug lacing.  There was nothing medieval about the food though.  Lots of high calorie food, late night hot chocolate and not a veggie to be found means that my weight loss for this week is very tiny.

Ok, I am posting my weight a day early. This mornings weigh in was 133.6...

So very happy with that. Not very happy about the way I got to it. I have had the flu this week. So, the challenge will be keeping it off after a full recovery.

Wish me luck...cause I am already getting my appetite back..

I don't believe the numbers the scales are reading, well not literally anyway, but I'm willing to concede that I'm not 53.5kg anymore so this week let's call it 53kg (116.7lb) which means I've reached the modest 2lb goal I set for this challenge. (It would be nice to believe numbers I see on the scale but the most I can say when I see weight X is that it is unlikely to jump back up by more than 3lb the following few days - see graph for illustration of this very point. For some wierd reason I'm currently hovering at the low end of my fluctuation range. I just can't let myself think that I'm really 51.5kg because as soon as I do it will jump back up and screw with my head.)

I had a very weird week. Early in the week I went up 3 pounds over night and it gradually came back down towards the end of the week. I finished the week at

269.8

I'm not sure if this had anything to do with it, but I started hitting the weights pretty hard last week.

Well I 'm back from 10 days vacation and I am up 1.5 lbs. I am not that upset about the gain, let's just say I "earned" it . Actaully this week is going to be even more of a challenge, I have 2 biirthday parties, one of them mine, an all day concert and an outing with my nephews (which always means a stop for ice cream :yum:) and unlike last week, I won't be hiking and biking all day so I am going to have to be a lot more careful.

Current weight 133.5

Looks like I will be in the pink for some time to come :nono:

I thought for sure i posted this update last thursday..but i Guess i did not!

8-6-09 8:00 am

341.80lbs

Needless to say I'm very happy with my progress! Although i wish i could see more of a difference in the mirror. But i suppose for now I'll have to go by what the scales say to see my progress.

I've also come to the realization that each pound i lose is more of a difference on my body than the last. So the next 50 pounds will mean a lot more in the mirror than the first 50!

I'm very very happy with that. Only 400g than my weight for last time but I have had a bad week/couple of days and have only the last 2-3 days been able to get back on track. So  And I have about 2-3 weeks to get to my goal weight for this challegne by the end.

The mirror lies. Either that or we have a problem somewhere between our eyes and our brains. I've lost 46 pounds so far and I don't see much of a difference in the mirror. I've gone from size 48 pants to being able to fit uncomfortably in a size 40. You'd think a change like that would be more obvious. Then again, I never really noticed a difference when I was adding those 46 pounds.

clagger, I've lost just short of 90lbs, and some days I feel like the same size as I started.  Changing your body does not neccisarily change your perception of yourself.  Keep up the great work, I bet other people are noticing the change and pretty soon you'll be able to see a difference too!

I know a way that will make you SEE an instant weight loss especially after all the weight you've lost. Try on the size of clothes you wore before you lost 50lb.......they will be hanging off you now!!! Now each time you look in the mirror and think 'there's no difference' remember how good you felt when you seen the clothes 'hanging' from your body. Your body is changing and don't let any 'negative' thought get in the way of your progress.

Let me know if you try this.....and well done on your progress so far.

Ughh, I got sick for a few days and went down to like 109 lbs, and have been over-eating since I got better... And I've been eating too many doughnuts!! My mom won't stop buying them! :dizzy:

Up to at least 115lbs now. :nono::nono::nono::nono::nono:

I haven't been exercising either...

Hopefully I can turn things around before my weight keeps escalating. This always seems to happen. Up down up down up down up down... AHH!!!

I already had a doughnut today.

two days till my weigh in and my wt is up today, fluctuations are NUTS!!!!! I can agree with all of your comments folks....some days i feel like nothing has changed, then i go and look thru my closet and go thru everything, trying it all on and see how most all of it bags and sags and falls off my hips or shoulders and doesnt stick around the middle and i see the changes in my physique. Its an amazing way to see the change and it does work.

So far my total loss since I began this adventure is 36pds. I have lost about 25inches from the whole body as well.

(But I still look in the mirror and see the wiggles and jiggles too!!!!!)

I was told however by a stranger at wal mart that i was "tiny" when we were discussing summer halter tops and my father just saw me after not seeing me since mothers day and he said how "skinny i am getting!"

So, i guess its working, i just dont know how long it will take my brain to and eyes to see it. ???:dizzy:

Ok, 132.3 this morning on the wii fit. I am going to switch back to the regular scale when the new challenge starts. My scale weighs about 3lbs more then my wii does. So, the next challenge will be a little harder to swallow the numbers the scale tells me.

Clagger, you have blown your goal right out of the water, you must feel great about what you have accomplished. We all need to find joy in our success and how we measure that is an individual thing. Glad you ar eenjoying your milestones.

I just wanted to comment here about some of the recent postings.  I think many of us have distorted body images in our brains, thanks to many factors.  I tend to go back and forth in my thinking.  One week I can look in the mirror and feel pretty good about what I'm seeing.  I definitely look different and better now than I did when I was 80 or so pounds heavier.   But then there are those weeks when I look in the mirror and I feel totally disgusted with my body and think " well you've lost 80 pounds and you're still a fat cow."   My crazy thinking is definitely one of the hardest things to overcome with weight loss.

Anyway.... I would say that we are too hard on ourselves.  Losing weight is by no means easy and it truly is an accomplishment.  I applaud all of you who are losing, please don't give up, I'm certainly not going to.

133.2  Hoping to get that down this week with some dedication to a routine and schedule.  Last week has been a Dr Jekle/ Mr Hyde  senario diet wise.  Part of the time I follow a raw food diet and the other part each junk food.  No way to explain it really, it's more of good intentions followed by "life happening", but I definately feel the monster coming out on occasion.

No FREAKING change again.

That would've been stronger language, but it would've censored me anyway I think.  One more no-change week and I think I'll have a freakout.

Well, I'm down one pound

My current weight is 132.5 but I am still in the pink.

It doesn't look like I am going to get out of the pink this time but I haven't given up so actually I kow it could be so much worse. I just really need to string a few good weeks together here and that would get me going. I really want to see 123 by Christmas which I know I can do but if I want to do that I need to start now....I am not a fast loser so I need extra time :snail:.

(I'm posting a day late, as if it was still Monday). This week I'm finally brave enough to post 52.5kg (115.6lb) which means I've exceeded my challenge goal (which was set at a very modest 0.25lb a week).

Yes, I am aware that updating the challenge graphic is now down to me, I am very busy but will get around to it I promise.

hello all!

its tuesday, and i failed to report this week. Sorry! I am sad to say that i have to post a gain. I know I know....this summer has been nuts with family, i am stressed and eating too much....argh....and the last few days took a toll on me. I am suffering now believe me.
BUT! I do have to say this, i saw my doctor yesterday, did the weigh in thing, and i came in at 163. My last visit to them was in March and I was then 174, so that is a great loss for me! However, the home scale I go against isnt matching, never has and I am posting from that not the doctor. I just had to share the difference in weigh ins at dr visits, cuz i am really impressed at my progress in such a short time.

So, here is my official weigh in for last week, that would have been for Saturday.....160. :( I know, up two pds... argh....

I know, I am sad about it, but hey, my body isnt unhappy and it is just a number. I cant not eat and avoid the foods i love, i just have to keep working on moderation. I am hopeful that i will go back down at least to the 158 i had held onto....but then, if i dont, like i said i am ok and excited to hear people say i am skinny! or thin! :)

All in all, I am happy with my loss since i started this, and yes, i do see a difference in the shape of my body and how i look, i just dont see it all the time!

BJD, you are making great progress, the fact that you can see a gain and still be okay is a huge step forward. I really believe you are absolutely right, it is important to learn to eat all foods but in moderation, that is so much easier said than done I know....having been on a cake eating binge recently but it truly is the base on which to build a good health lifestyle, or at least that is my opinion. Keep up the great attitude and I know you will get where you want to be.

I am VERY happy to post this one! I killed myself on the treadmill and bike for a week straight to see if the extra excersise would make a difference and it did!!!

8-20-09 8:00am

332.00lbs

Thats a total of 6pounds last week!! I think i might give the working out a day or two rest.. last week kicked my butt. But I am glad to see that the amount I try directly affects the amount i lose.

If you guys want to see before and after pictures so far of the 65lbs ive lost total check out http://www.caloriesperhour.com/forums/forum31/9253.html. Its a link to my diary on this same forum. I have 3 pictures up there spanning about 1.5 months in time..So it doesn't cover the whole 65lbs but about 35 of it or so.

159 today. I will take it. :) Have a great day team!

We are almost done with this challenge!? Wonder whats on the horizon?? :) Next time, i need to make my goal smaller, so that i dont end up without a win at the end. Its just too stressful to make these bigger than 3-5 pd losses happen in my daily practice and i defeat myself... Next time its gonna be reasonable for me and my progress... :)

To all of you who are able to reach those larger goals, good for you! I envy your willpower, committment and drive! :)

Good Morning Everyone:

166  this morning.

Yippee I made my challenge of loosing a lb. a month.  Very small goals but I would rather make a small one than fail on a larger one.

Good luck to all of you.

59,7kg (131.6 lb)

I am not going to make my goal but I am closer than I thought I would be so that's great! I do not take the goal so seriously, as long as consitent progress is being made then I'm happy.

Good luck to everyone else! :apple:

I'm going to 'bank' another half-kilo loss, this week announcing my weight as 52kg (114.5lb). As the graph below shows I've actually had the odd reading that was even lower but I'm something of a pessimist as far as these challenges go.

Checking in late -

167

Same weight for weeks.  Unless I starve myself and exercise 10 hours every day this week I will not meet my goal. Even following that crazy plan probably wouldn't get me to my goal anyway.   I'm not going to be doing that so I will not be meeting my challenge goal.  I will however try to actually lose something this week.

Well, it official, this is my last weigh in for this challenge and I up from where I started . I don't think that is how it's suppose to work .

I have not done well on the last couple of challenges so I really need to get my head back into it. I always struggle in the summer :cone::birthday_cake::pizza::palms: but this year has been particularly bad. I've just let myself slip too many times plain and simple.

Well, I sure hope there is another challenge because even though I have gained weight I know it would have been so much worse without this accountability. At least with the fall coming it gets a little easier for me :rainbow:, fortunately I love soups :yum: and as long as I stay away from the creamed ones they are pretty low in calories and i can find them at all my favorite restaurants since I eat so often that can be a challenge too. .

Current weight 134.5

Please tell me there will be another challenge.?

Ok time to fess up.  I have been gaining weight, especially these last few days.  I've struggled with my hormones and thyroid and trying different supplements and herbs to help me feel better.  It almost seemed like for 3 days I gained a pound each day.  And while I ate some junk food I didn't binge or eat large quantities of food.

So for me, this challenge turned into one where I gained weight.  While I feel bad about that, I am happy that I learned which herbs probably contributed to that effect.

And as always I am happy that I learned something.

Weight is 135.0

Hey Sassykat, you are not alone, I gained during this challenge too but my feeling is if I had not entered the challenge I would have done a lot worse....beleive me in the past I have. Like you said if learn something about ourselves or how foods effect us then we can be happy knowing we may not be thinner but we are wiser (LOL). We'll get it next time

Ok, I know I haven't been posting much...been real busy.

But, my ending weight for the challenge is 135lbs according to my wii fit.... I am going to join the new challenge with my scale weigh in (which is higher). I don't use the wii much anymore and it takes to long to get it out just to weigh in....

So, that is the plan...hope the new challenge starts soon....

Finally got another pound off..........

Final weigh in for this challenge is 166.

I fell short of my challenge goal by 3 pounds.  Not too bad I suppose.  I'm glad to at least have lost some.    Thanks for the challenge!

The total team loss for this challenge is showing nearly 120 pounds.  How awesome is that?  Pretty awesome!!

Congrats to everyone who lost weight during this challenge.   I truly applaud your efforts!   I know it's not an easy journey but truly a journey worth taking.

Some didn't lose or even gained during this challenge.  I give you kudos for trying and hope that you will come back to the next challenge ready to keep fighting.

Thanks again for the challenge!    I'm feeling super motivated today and I'm gonna take advantage of it with a strong workout!

Great job everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Last year I really disliked announcing a low (probably unrepresentative) weight achieved at the end of a challenge only for my weight to jump straight back afterwards so I'd be spending the first month of the challenge just achieving the starting weight I already took for granted. I became more pessimistic, devising all sorts of system (such as calling my weight as the highest weight I've been all week, refusing to acknowledge more than 1lb of loss in any one week, aware that I fluctuate within a 3lb range not reporting my weight any lower than 3lb higher than the lower one I've seen).

With all that said, I still have to report a loss - this week I'm going to acknowledge that 51.5kg ( 113.4lb ) is closer to my current weight than any higher figures I've called in previous weeks. That's what I'm finishing on.

This probably means that even if I set a 1.1lb target for the next challenge (to lose down to 112.3lb) my calorie increase, energy boosting and muscle building objectives probably mean I'll be _up_ by the end of the challenge and showing in purple.

screwed up big time this week. i went into it with the mentality that i "was 135, so i can do what i want!" the end result? gaining 5 pounds soo..final weigh in:

140.0

*sigh* when will i ever let these abs shine????

regardless, i did get toned up this summer, so that's a good thing. can't wait for another challenge!

I've just weighed myself to start Nir's new challenge and am so shocked to see I've put on 4lb in one week!!!! I thought having the flu would make me eat less but I seem to be eating more and all the wrong things.

My final weigh in 156lb although I'm still recoving from the flu I have started new challenge today.

NOT A GOOD RESULT!!! but it's me who's putting the food in and making wrong choices no one else. Need to take control of my eating.
