could anyone give me any info on the above pill.i started taking the "pill"2 months ago but after just one month i had to come off it.due to having food poisoning (self inflited)family barbque.due to being ill i did lose 1 stone in weight over 6 days.which 1/2 stone went straight back on as soon as i started eating and drinking normally again.with gps advice i only started it again on thursday 5th june. as on the weds 27th may my hubby and myself went on a cruise for a week,so with not being on the "pill" i still had to keep a eye on the sort of food i ate.i was very pleased with myself as when i weighed on thursday morning i had not put on any weight whatsoever. thursday 5th june as i said i started taking the xenical x3 a day.im trying hard to keep to a low fat diet but im a bit confused on how to calulate the amount of fat% in each item of food. do you for example say if 100gms is 529cals and the fat is 34.1gms you go by that or do you take notice of the other info on the packet which says per 25gms pack is 132 cals and 8.5gms.(im reading from a packet of walkers ready salted crisps) sorry if you cant understand what im trying to get at.but fingers crossed someone somewhere does. thankyou. jean x |

I am assuming that the information that comes with the pills gives some sort of indication to how low your "low fat diet" needs to be to avoid the unpleasant side effects. It might say "your diet needs to have 10% of calories from fat" Or it might say "no more than 25g of fat per day" You have two possible strategies: either count every gram of fat, for example you'd count those crisps as 8.5g because you're eating one packet (or 4.3 if you're only eating half the packet, 17g if you're eating two packets and so on and so forth). The other thing you could do is sort out foods in your head into low and high fats based on the percentage of calories coming form fat, for example here: 34.1 x 900 / 529 = 58% (so 58% of the calories in crisps come from fat - it is mostly a fat food due to the vegetable oils used to fry the crisps) a good guideline for a low fat diet is to stick to mostly vegetables, fruits, beans and whole-grains. If you stick to these you will find it hard to be in the hgh-fat zone (the only 'whole' foods to watch out for are avocados olives nuts and seeds) Of course if you do learn how to eat a healthy low fat diet, the Xenical will have no effect as it only binds to fat. Think of it as a training tool. Be aware though that there are plenty of low fat unhealthy foods you can over-eat on so try to ration or avoid them (jelly beans and marshmallows etc.) by the way I go to OA (overeaters anonymous) meetings and when the subject of Xenical was mentioned I was surprised that many of my OA friends had tried it and found ways to abuse it and continue with their over-eating |
