It's almost time for the next challenge, everyone!

Here are the guidelines for the Independence Day Challenge (similar to those of the previous ones):

  1. The challenge will run from Friday, May 1st through Saturday, July 4th.

  2. You may join the challenge at any time beginning March 1st, and late-comers are most welcome. You can even join the challenge in June.

  3. To join the challenge, post your height, starting weight and goal weight.

You may choose any goal you like. But if your goal is to lose more than 18 pounds during the challenge period -- more than two pounds a week -- please explain why you think your goal is realistic.

This website is dedicate to healthy, common sense, lasting weight loss, and does not support crash diets which do not have realistic expectations of producing long-term results.

For more information, please see the Tutorial and the forum topic The Most Likely Reason Your Diet Will Fail.

Your height will be used to display your BMI. Disclosing your height is optional but as incentive to share your height with us, unless told your height I'll just assume you are 5' (1.52m).

  4. Pick a day for your weekly weigh-in, and stick to it a closely as you can. Then post your current weight each week -- or as often as you would like!

You may wish to read:  How Often Should You Weigh Yourself

Those who are not losing weight, and those who are gaining, will receive praise for continuing to participate. It's so easy to run and hide! We've all been there ourselves.

We also know that by participating, they are very likely doing better than they otherwise would be.

  5. The results will be updated every Saturday (or more often) and posted right here just below these instructions, so they will always be easy to find.

We want the challenge stats to be realistic and reflect active challenge members, so anyone not posting for two consecutive weeks will be dropped from the list. But they will be put right back on the next week should they post again.

If you need to withdraw from the challenge, please have the courtesy to post a farewell note or send me a Private Message (PM). Your name will be removed without comment.

  6. You are encouraged to share how you are doing during the challenge, and especially to give each other support. However, to make it easier for me to find your weekly weight, please make sure your weight stands out.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to post them or send me a PM.

Wishing you success and happiness!

Nir

Hi Nir,

Thanks for setting up this challenge again. I saw it more than half way through last time and felt it was a bit late to join.

My height is 5ft 4in and my weight is stuck at 154lb I'd like to get own to 147lb to start with. I'll weigh in on a Fri.

I'll be away on holiday from 18 May to 25th May so will miss weigh in for that week.

Nir, thanks for doing another challenge. After my abysmal performance last time I really needed another one. I will definitely not get left in the pink this time....well at least I sure hope not .

I love the BMI idea, it adds another way to gauge ourselves, thanks for thinking of it.

My height is 5'3", my starting weight is 133.9 and my goal weight is 128. I will weigh in on Tuesdays.

Thanks for running a challenge which ends on the day we celebrate our independence from... YOU!

Haha... The British are our great friends. Now.

I'll tell you what else is funny, the last 'Independence Challenge' was in 2007, and also started by a brit! In 2008 we had a 'Peter's challenge' but you need Peter to run one of those

Ok then. My name is Nir, I'm 5'5". Let's say my current weight is 123lb. My goal weight for this challenge is 121.1lb. I will weigh-in on Saturdays (because July 4th is a Saturday). Below is a 7 month view of my weight gain and loss. At that point I was around 116lb (BMI 19.3) I want to reverse the rapid gain but progress has been slow so far. I'm currently on a 1500 calorie diet. My unadjusted RMR is 1400. I exercise about 90 minutes every day (it is an average - sometimes less, sometimes more).

I'd like to thank whoever is running this challenge

Hi, I was hoping another challenge would start up soon! Thanks Nir

My starting weight is 254lbs and my height is 5'4"

My goal weight is 236 and my weigh in day will be a Friday.

I've been stuck floating between 251 (17.13) and 255 (18.3) for the last 2 years, so 236 would put me down into the 16 stone bracket, which I haven't seen for a very long time!

Currently I have no idea of my calorie intake, but a reasonable guess would be 3000kcals + per day. Also, my lifestyle is very sedatory.

Good luck everyone!

Nir - I have added another post further down with my correct weight on. My first weigh in came out a few lbs less than I had thought.

Thanks Nir for running this challange!

I'm 5'2 and my start weight is 133.8

I'm going to aim for 122.6 as that's about 1% of my body weight per week, and not end in the pink this time!

Alright, wasn't going to do this. But, here I am . Sigh me up for friday (excluding this friday, unless it's good of course ) weigh ins. Maybe that will help me with my struggling weekends.

Starting weight 133lbs

Goal weight 124lbs

5'4 height

Oh yea, I alway go on vacation over the 4th. So, I will try to figure out a way to get my final weight posted. It might just have to be late. Like on that monday after the challenge is done or something. Depends on where we go and what we do.

Also as some others have posted, I want to end this challenge out of the pink....

Thanks, Nir, for running this challenge! Blimey, you're ace. I plan to lay off the scrummy bits.

OK, about this challenge. It's going to end with me being under 200, unless I die or enter a comatose state. I've been so close a few times, only to fail, but I WILL NOT FAIL this time. I have laughed in the face of my biggest vice (food), and while I still love good food, it does not have the same control over me that it has in the past, and I do not plan to give that control back.

Height: 5'11"

Starting Weight: 214.0

Goal Weight: 199.0

I am trying to do my best also. Wow, never realized just how much I snack during the day, until I quit doing it, lol. Sucks! I want my pretzels, granola bars, and all that other stuff I eat.... :chewing:

GW 121.0

Height:  5'2"

I am fairly comfortable with where I am at right now.  Just going to keep at it steadily.  I am more focused on improving fitness and conditioning and the weight loss will follow that.  1 pound per 2 weeks is a deficit of 250 calories per day.  If the weather cooperates and I can get good exercise in, it is possible.

Thanks for the new challenge Nir......

I made it half way to goal for the spring challenge......At the beginning of a challenge it seems like it is a piece of cake (oops) to lose 10 lbs but each week passes soooo fast and there I am with hardly a loss......so here goes again......yes I can, yes I can, yes I can!

Monday's weight was 176

My goal  on or about July 1st will be one pound a week and hopefully I will lose  8 pounds and reach  168

I am  5'5"   I will weigh in on Mondays.

                                                                                       :coffee:

Thanks again Nir:wink:

I will be starting at 64,4kg and my goal weight will once again be 60kg. I would really want to get lower than this, but since I've only lost like 1 kg this past month I don't thing I should be shooting for more than 4kg for 2 months. My height is 160cm

I hope to actually reach my goal. Especially since I will be going home to Denmark in the middle of July.

Edit: Since it's a friday today I will weigh in fridays, though I probably won't but I will update at least once a week.

Hi Guys

Thought I'd say hello. After a year and and a half of hanging around this site and using it, I have volunteered to help Nir out and have a go at running this challenge for a bit.

Nir has been very patiently teaching me the ropes from scratch. He has done a a great deal of work an our behalf and I hope I can help and not hinder.

If nothing else I know what an excell spreadsheet does now!!

Any new members and existing, can you post your numbers in big and bold red so they stand OUT!!

Thanks Artistjohn, your efforts on our behalf are very much appreciated and you too Nir, thankyou.

I have a confession to make, I'm not very computer literate. I learn on a need to know basis and once someone shows me and if I continue to use it I 'don't loose it' I'm apologising before I post my update on Friday. I don't know how to change the colour. I'll give it a go now.
Ok I've change Now to red, bold and size 7 and all that's happened is that the information has come up in brackets. HELP.

I'm grateful to both Nir and ArtistJohn for running this.  Thank you both so much!  I'm ready to give it another go.

Height: 5'9
Starting: 184.8
Goal: 179.8

My goal may seem small but I'm going on vacation to France tomorrow and  I know that I'll gain weight there.  I'm okay with this.  It's a rare treat to go to europe and I don't plan on watching what I eat at all.  I'll be posting again on May 22 so I'll let everyone know the damage.

Post on Thursday

I would prefer to report my average weight for the week, instead of what it is just on Thursdays.    If that's not OK, let me know.

My weight can change as much as 2 pounds in one day, plus I don't have a digital scale yet.  I think the average would better reflect the actual weight.

Thank you for running this challenge Nir & ArtistJohn.

I will post the weight you give me for the week Nancy. As a guy I retain water. I drink loads of water and nothing comes out. If I do a long run I will be 2 - 3 heavier next day. The next day after frequent trips to the toilet I will be at a weighable weight. This may change when I get rid of excess body fat.

I have lost 2 lbs:grin: Now 195 lbs.

In English weight I am now 13st 13lbs. (14lbs in a stone) I hit this weight in Apr 08.  I am determined to keep going this time and adopt a lifetime change.

I am now into a weight range I have not been in for 20 + years!!!

I wonder if that is how I am. Cause after a big workout in the evenings, the next morning I always weigh more instead of less. Then it comes back off later. It's very strange and very discouraging when you work out.

Also, congrats on meeting a weight you haven't seen in 20 years. That is great!

Well, as it stands now I am the same weight as when I started. But, I will give an official weigh in tomorrow. I am going to try and be really good today. Maybe I can get rid of a pound before tomorrow.

Hello everyone... I have taken a little break and of course put about 20 lbs back on from my low. The good news is I am still down over 20 lbs from my high. Since my buddy John is helping with this challenge then I will have to join. Monday morning my starting weight was 256 lbs and my goal is to lose 2 lbs a week and so giving myself a little wiggle room my goal weight is 244 lbs. Take care all and I will also try to post alot more as well. Coach K

64kg

This is very very good:grin:. Especially since 2 days ago I was 100g over my starting weight. Now I am 5oog under. Good for me. I hope I don't gain it back though. It seems I have to work a lot harder to lose now, which is not ideal obviously but I have 10kg left to lose at least... That is what I have lost untill now, so that's like 5 months to go... If not more since it is slower now...

SW 123.0 lb CW 122.2 lb  at this point I'm re-claiming old ground (I was at this weight for part of the last challenge). Not complaining. Having spent 16 days at 1500 calories I then increased calories up to 1650 calories (after feeling particularly weak at Body Pump class at the gym) and have been at 1650 for the last week. So this loss is despite increasing calories.

Thanks to artistjohn for running the challenge!

EDIT: I've inserted a graph of calories eaten from Christmas day until today to put my calorie increase in context.

I am changing my weigh in day to Thursday. I have been doing really well lately, so I want to wait just a little longer so that I feel my efforts have paid off. Fingers crossed that I will be down some pounds!! :yum:

1.5lb loss in a week is a good healthy amount, keep it up.

So far, so good. I have a 60 mile breast cancer walk coming up this week end and while you might think that is a definate for a weight loss I have found in the past I actaully gain . I think it has something to do with all of the wonderful people along the way who give us chocolate, and I wouldn't want to hurt anyones feeling by turning it down . I am going to try and not gain for next week, that will be my goal for the next week I guess.

For this week, current weight 130.7, down 1.2.

Ok, not doing so well. Weigh in was 136lbs. So put me in the pink.... :nono: I will weigh again when I go up to shower. If by some miracle it would be different, I will update.

Just don't get what I am doing wrong. I am up two pound from yesterday. Very depressing....

Today is not my official weigh-in day, but I wanted to share, anyway. Please put me down for...

198.8!!!

This is a huge milestone for me. I haven't weighed this low since middle school, at least. Artistjohn, please change my goal weight to 195 for now.

Hang in there, everyone, and don't be discouraged! I hit 205 around last October, and it's taken me a LOOOONG time to move past that, with lots of rough patches. Stick with it, and you'll make it!

I am no longer going to have a scale because we're all moving out of our house, so I'm going to post what I weighed on Thursday... 139.4. Then I'm going to work on finding the perfect scale for the perfect price... any suggestions?

Can I change my starting info?? I started a weightloss challenge with my mom yesterday at her office. Their scale is 10lbs off from mine and I think it would be easier for me to just use their numbers(even though higher) for both here and there.

so  my starting would be 330lbs and my goal is 15lbs to make it 315lb.

nir- can I email you and ask about bmr #%@&!, I admit I'm no good at those.

Ok, I know it's not my official weigh in day. But, I want out of the pink and today I am. So, put me down for 133lbs. Don't really know how I pulled that off after a weekend full of eating bad stuff. Maybe the extra walking and stuff. Anyway, I will take it.....whooohooo.

I am reporting a spectacular 3lb increase.:sad::sad:

This is exactly the point where I fell of the food wagon last time. My body does not want me below 195lbs. This painfully obvious to me now.

Never mind, onwards and upwards, or downwards as the case may be.:grin:

Ok I've had a good think this am and made a decision!!

I am changing over to my new scales which show as 199lbs and not 197lbs as my old ones do. I am stuck at a plateau around this weight.

My new goal is to lose 1lb per week til end of challenge from new start weight of 199lbs:sad::angry:

New goal weight of 194lbs

Hello all!  It's so nice to see everyone posting their progress.  I'm back from my vacation to France and all I can say is THE FOOD!  The gorgeous, lovely, rich, flavourful food!  I ate tonnes of high calorie rich food  but I only had it in small servings and I only ate until I was full.  That combined with lots of walking means that I actually have a small loss to report instead of the expected gain.  My current weight is 183.6 lbs.

You are welcome and it's never to late.

However your goal is high at 17.2lbs in 5 weeks. Is this a typo? In the preamble at the beginning of the challenge members are asked to explain is the goal is greater than 18lb in the whole challenge.

Hello again everybody! I dropped out last year, probably about this time, doing pretty well, but of course since then my weight ever so slowly but ever so steadily crept back up again to 74kg, 163 lbs. I have to take my eating habits (and drinking habits - those lovely glasses of red wine with dinner and fattening quantities of cheese, olives and other nibbles don't help) back in hand, so, if that's OK, I would like to join the challenge again. I'm happy to see many of the same names still here - I hope you've done better than I have!

I got rid of the first 4 lbs and am now at 159 but would like to get down to 150 by Independence Day. Not being American, I don't celebrate, but if I reached my goal, I would! I actually need to get down to 136 lbs - I have dodgy legs, much better with less weight! but slowly slowly catchie monkey, so I'll make do with 150 by 4th July to begin with!

I'm finally in the normal weight category.

Hey Mchen, getting to the "normal"  category is a huge accomplishment. I don't know where you started but it doesn't matter, hitting that milestone should be celebrated...non food celebration of course .

I agree with Hiker... I WOULD LOVE TO BE IN THE NORMAL CATEGORY! That is huge! Enjoy it! Relish in it! :) Just have a yummy sugar free treat! :) Or a spritzer with fruit juice to celebrate! :)

As for me, I finally have a change in my numbers. 165 today!!!! Amen!!! I am only 6 pds from being in the normal wts.......go go go go go go!!!!

Thanks Hiker and BJ!!  I was pretty excited myself as this comes at the one year anniversary of my lifestyle change.  I started at 205 lbs, joined this site in June at 195 lbs, and here I am today with a 46 lb loss so far.  It's been super slow progress for me, and I still have a lot of bad habits to break (hence the weekend challenge ).  Thanks to you all and to this site for helping me get this far.

Hi Artist John

I'm trying to get the colour to change to red. I don't know if it's my computer but I'm highlighting the part I want in red increasing the size and when I send it it's still black and the same size.

Apologies it's just not happening....

Anyway I want to record a fantastic result I lost 5lb and now weigh

150lb

Weigh in day...not so good this week. Honestly I am bouncing up and down like a yo-yo! Still, I am still less than when I started. Must try harder for next week! Congrats to everyone who has lost.

Ok, I am still holding at 133lbs. That's a small miracle the way I have been eating. :pig: Going to try real hard to keep it together this weekend. Then maybe I can lose something next week instead of making up for a bad weekend. :dizzy: It's worth a shot.

Yes, but I grew up in Holland with metres and kilogrammes and for me a stone is just a heavy thing. However, I really took to pints ... :yum: I'm now trying to lose both stones and pints as they add up to what I still cannot pronounce: lbs, 159 of them.

Holding at 55.5kg (122.2lb). I think it is fair to say that the calorie intake estimates I've used for the last few months were wild underestimates and the more potatos featured in my eating, the less reliable they were and given this I had done pretty well! Yesterday was day 11 under the '1700' calorie scheme (with the caveat just described) though I have changed the way I account for potatos so I have a bit more confidence in this now. Oh, I just realise we're halfway through the challenge period! Here is my graph.

Why thank you very much!  I believe it's due to the reduction in carbs that I was doing the past week.  The 4 weeks prior to that I was losing only a tiny bit and that loss was mainly seen with the tape measurer.  During those 4 weeks my calories were low and I was exercising but I was eating a lot of carbs.  So I dropped those down and voila I'm getting more of a loss. So cutting down my carbs (not drastically though) seems to be working for me.

125.0.

Put that pound back on.  Not surprising, given everything that went into my mouth over the course of the past week.  However, I had a good day today and hope to be back down to 124 by the next weigh-in.

Not bad so far!  I'm down (almost) a pound.  This week I'm at:
182.8

My eating habits haven't been very good this week but the warm weather we've been having has kept me out and active so I guess it evened out in the end.  Next weeks weather forecast isn't very good so I'd better be more careful with my diet.

Current weight 127.1, down 1.1 from last week. I have really kicked the exercise up a notch and I think it is showing on the scale. Now if I can just keep at it. I am actaully finding some classes I really like and that obviously helps.

Thankyou Hiker! Yes, heel gets sexier every day as the kilos - sorry, lbs! - drop off! Nice thing about lbs is that they are a lot quicker to lose than kgs!

GO GIRL! that is AWESOME!!!!!:ribbon::caution: :thumbsup:I wish I could do the same...somehow i am still sitting in this 166-165 range, and its making me Completely Insane!:nono::dizzy::confused:

You said you are cutting carbs...good girl...i think my mistake has been that i am eating a little more because i am exercising so much away...but i gotta stop because its keeping me in maintenance and not loss. I just need to eat 1200 a day and not deduct any exercise away and maybe then i will start to lose again!!!! Ugh! Its so hard to do this dieting thing! Even to make a life change its so hard! I just gotta keep pluggin! Me and Once upon a thin girl will get thru these 170-160's!!!!! :down_arrow::caution:

Keep up the hard work MichelleP, i think it is fantastic and inspiring!

Thanks again for the words of encouragement.  I'm still blaming the losses on my lower carb way of eating especially since I've exercised less and ate more fat this past week and still managed to drop 3 pounds.  I can find no other explanation.  So I continue on this journey.....

I too intend on getting through the 170's and on to the 160's and beyond.  Keep working hard and you will succeed!

For the last 4 days I have been eating a diet that is lower in food weight and potassium content and during this time the highest weight I've seen was 53.5kg (117.8lb) so just for fun this is what I'm going to post as my weigh-in this week. Of course if I go back to eating potassium-rich foods I expect my loss will be reversed and I'll be sure to post that too.

I am a no change too. I visited London yesterday and spent all day walking between art galleries.   Had sushi in Selfridges from one of those rotating conveyer belts. How many cals did I eat:chewing::chewing: no one will ever know. To top it off had ice cream and then chocolate on train journey home:dizzy:.

Sounds like you had a nice day and all that walking had to burn some of those calories . But sushi from a conveyor belt? Somehow that does not sound like the freshest shusi? Of course I have no idea what Selfridges is so maybe it is the best ever, it just doesn't sound that way. Now chocolate and ice cream....those sound good no matter how they are dispensed . You are lucky to have such a great train system, around here you would not want to eat on the trains, mostly you just want the trip to end :dizzy:.

Hi Hiker

Have you heard of Harrods? Well Selfridges and Harrods are real upmarket department store like bloomindales?? in NYC.

The sushi is made freshly in front of you by japanese chefs:chewing::chewing: Having said that I mainly ate the hot dishes. Squid with chillis, seafood rice, vegetable noodles. You get little bowl fulls and pay as to how many bowls you eat:shock: It cost £54 maybe $75 USD for three of us.

Did 1 hr 10 run yesterday and eating well yesterday and today. My attitude has changed in theat I don't let a day off lead to a binge like I used to.

I walked maybe 5-6 miles in London as well.

John

:rain:Snow!  Two days of wet snow!  I hate snow in June!  Oh well, with any luck that will be our last snow fall until September (maybe even October if we get lucky).

Despite the weather and my related decrease in physical activity I've managed to lose almost 2 lbs. this week.  I've been really careful with my dinners.

Sorry, missed my weigh in last Friday. Should have been: 246.9lbs

I am going the wrong way?! I have started telling a couple of the woman in my office my weight on a Monday (when they weigh for their slimming world classes) and a Friday (when I weigh for CPH). Also started putting the £4.50 a week into a savings jar that I would pay out for if I went to the slimming world class with them.

Im just trying whatever I can to keep the motivation going! :dizzy:

Hi Artist John and all,

I am pulling myself from this challenge.  I am pleased with my weight loss so far ~ from the last challenge and this one ~ although I have not reached my goal yet.  Recording the weekly weigh in kept me focused.

I plan to experiment with adding juicing to my daily intake.  I'm not sure how to balance this with what I do now but I anticipate some fluctuation with my weight.  I won't be focused on continued weight loss right now but on a healthier eating plan.  Once I find a level of comfort I will again work towards my weight loss goal.

Congratulations to all of you who continue your triumphs against the battle of the bulge! I have been inspired and am very grateful for all of you who share your struggles and your successes.

Sincerely,

Skinnieme

Current weight 125.8, down 1.3 from last week.

It has to be the exercise I've been doing lately I started going to the gym 4 or 5 days a week, just for a class but I think it may be helping?  I haven't changed my eating habits in the past month or two but something is changing/working....and I am not complaining. Maybe it was that chocolate peanut butter cookie dough ice cream I ate on Sunday .

246.4 lbs

Not much change. There is no chance of me completing my target now, 15lbs in 2 weeks? Not possible!

So I am wondering whether to review my end target. 246.4lbs at the minute which is 17stone 8.4lbs. I am wondering whether it would be impossible to hit 237lbs, which will mean I am then in the 16stone bracket...just!

8.5lbs in 2 weeks? Probably almost impossible, but at least it isnt completely impossible like my original goal now is.

Kekkiemonster, you are doing great, you are sticking with it and making progress. I know it is frustrating when the wieght doesn't come off as fast as we like but this is something we are going to deal with for the rest of our lives so we have lots of time to do it (at least I hope so). If we just keep plugging away it will happen and as long as you keep at it you are winning. The goals we set are just that...something we want to achieve but maybe you were a little too hard on yourself when you set it. I don't think it matters if we hit our goal or not, what matters is that we are doing the best we can every day and it may take a very long time but we will get there.  My own story is I have lost 60 pounds but it took me a year and a half to do it and now that I am where I want to be it is still a struggle to stay at this weight. What I am trying to say it don't worry about the goal, if we keep plugging away we are all going to get there. In my opinion if we end up less than we started, it's a win.

After last week's unrealistic 117.8lb I'm back up with a slightly more realistic 54kg = 118.9lb. Given the potassium I've been eating since Monday I'm surprised it hasn't shot up higher already.

That's one pound up from last week but it's TTOM so I'm not worried about it. I've been eating good and exercising so it's all good.

Well I hate to report this week but I will. I fell way off somehow, I did cheat some but it was worse than I expected.

Current weight 127.7. up 1.9

Wish I could say it was worth it, but it really wasn't. Oh well, time to just put one foot in front of the other and get moving.

154. Minute change, but change even so and in the right direction. Four pounds in two weeks? Do-able, right?

This week I've gone back up some more, to a more realistic 54.5kg (120.0lb) though that still means I've achieved goal for this challenge which (oops) I see is coming to an end in but 2 short weeks!

Well only a small weight loss to report today.  I dropped 0.8 of a pound.  I'm not discouraged though, at least it's in the right direction.  My new weight is 178.8.
That leaves me with 1.8 lbs left to lose by challenge end.  Completely doable but I will have to be good.

well still going in the wrong direction.

Current weight 128.9, up 1.2.

I want to start heading down again but I am not too worried, this is a life time journey and there are going to be ups and downs, I just don't like accepting the "ups" when it comes to my weight.

sqzee, I know you are traveling, are you staying in a hotel? If so they most likely have one in the gym/work out room? If you are staying with friends are you near any hotels? No one would notice if you just walk in nonchalantly and used the scale, they would just assume you're a guest.

No I am staying in our apartment. I just don't have access to a scale, and even if I did it wouldn't be first thing in the morning that I could wiegh myself so it wouldn't be a correct number. But we might buy a new scale so I don't know...

Sorry for the lack of posts recently.. been working alot now and so been very busy.

At least work has continued to help me lose more pounds.

I am now at 203lbs. I might not reach my goal.. but I still have come a long way from when I was 235lb back in February during the first challenge.

Amazing drop and I can definately feel the difference now.. with 32 pounds gone.

173  which is up a pound from last week.

I'm quite sure I didn't actually gain a pound of fat as I haven't eaten enough to do that but the scale says what it says........

Only one week to go and I am going to work my butt of this week because I want to get to my goal darnit!!!

Yes!  I did it! 176.8!  And I still have almost a week to go.  I'm sure that I can knock off another pound.  I don't know why everything is working so well this time around,  it just seems easier somehow.  Maybe I'm just more motivated.  There is nothing quite like success to motivate you!

Looking at the results table I have an observation to make: the majority of challenge participants have set themselves a challenge goal equivalent to losing about 1lb/week if not more.

One person has come quite close, at 0.9lb per week.

The question that occurs is: are setting ambitious goals (goals which we strive towards but ultimately do not appear to have the ability to attain) working for us or against us? Would we have done better or worse had we set more 'realistic' goals - for example had we set a goal of 0.5lb per week would we have done even worse?

Any ideas welcome.

I'm delighted at my overall roughly 0.5lb/week loss which I didn't think was possible given my performance in recent months.

I'm planning to once more set myself a 2lb weight loss goal for the next challenge. The plan for calories remains to gently and gradually increase calories by 50 every 2-3 weeks and along the way discover maintenance and perhaps build muscle (so I might fail to hit that 2lb goal for the next period, but it's all good).

Last day of the challenge and time for my last weigh-in, and I've managed to hold on to the loss - so I'm at 54kg (118.9lb) which means that it was during this challenge that I finally broke through that 'magical' BMI 20.0 barrier and feel more at peace with my weight.

I did change my goal and scales half way thru the challenge from an 8 lbs target to a 5lb loss target which was more realistic.

I have worked hard this week and dipped to 1800 cals last two days and run every day except one when I went to the gym.

My final weigh in is 190.4lbs for a 3lb loss this week and an overall loss of 8.6lbs. My body fat has reduced from 26% to 23.1%.

Nir for me a 1lb a week loss gives me something to shoot at. I hit the 0.9 mark and will go for the 1lb in next challenge. I don't mind as long as it's a downward trend.

Final weigh in = 171

That's 2 less than last week.

My goal for this challenge was to lose 10 pounds.  I ended up losing 8 pounds and feel good about it overall.  I'll take the loss with a smile.

You can put me down at 127.5 for the final.

It could be worse but should have been better.  I seem to have lost my focus on weight loss.  My next challenge will be just to get back to 125 and maintain it there and get back to healthy, normal eating without all the late-night nonsense.

Thanks for running the Challenge!
