We decided to start this thread to keep our off topic discussions out of the "general discussion" thread, which is geared more toward the topic of the FL4I diet.  This thread is where is where we can talk about non-diet things that are on our mind... news, frustrations, life, whatever! Hey, that would have been a good name for this thread... WHATEVER!   But the vote is in, and we have a tie.  So we are combining "Conversation Cafe", (suggested by Sunshine), with "Nonfat Chat", (suggested by LetsGoCubs), which has resulted in the new thread name Nonfat Chat at the Conversation Cafe.  Thanks for the idea, Sunshine!  But don't let the name fool you.  I am sure our posts will be anything but nonfat!  So relax, and "venti" away!

Yes, it is awesome tasting... the best. But it is way too expensive. I have heard and read many good things about it.  My sister tried to get me to become a distributor, but I am sooo not into multilevel marketing and that is exactly what that is.  Even though the benefits of the drink are supposeed to be remarkable, I think the same can be obtained for much cheaper.  I did a little research before making up my mind.   Btw, Costco's Acai Blueberry drink is 2nd best in taste to Monavie, in my opinion.  Monavie isn't even pure Acai, it is a blend of several juices.  I can't remember all the details, but I know I based my decision on several factors.  Are you going to buy it or sell it?  They really do not push just selling it, they push you getting people signed up... the benefit  being you get it a little bit cheaper than straight out purchasing at $25 a bottle (wine size bottle at that!), and bottom line it is another MLM company. Those are my 2 cents.

Yep, it's very expense.  If I thought I could make some money off of it, I would sell it, but based on my experience with Amway about 10 years ago, it's a LOT of work to convince people you aren't "taking them for a ride."  And you’re right- it’s not about the sale of the item; it’s about getting people underneath you- the more people you have buying, the more money you make.  I was just interested in it for (1) nutritional value - supposedly the #1 superfood, and (2) it's supposed to HELP YOU LOSE WEIGHT!!!  I saw the bottle of Fruit A Vie at Costco- about $16-17/bottle.  And you only drink 1 oz., twice/day.

Anyone who can make claim of the weight loss factor in acai berries?

And so, the day passes and evening is almost upon us.  For me, I'll be leaving the office soon and join the millions of maniacs on the loop for my journey home but, before I go, I will share yet another...

STORY O' THE DAY

 Maybe *

*Maybe . . we were supposed to meet the wrong people before meeting the right one so that, when we finally meet the right person, we will know how to be grateful for that gift.  You are all my prescious gifts.

*Maybe . . . when the door of happiness closes, another opens; but, often times, we look so long at the closed door that we don't even see the new one which has been opened for us.  I'm so glad I turned my head and saw the new door open.  Thank you.

*Maybe . . . it is true that we don't know what we have until we lose it, but it is also true that we don't know what we have been missing until it arrives.  I missed y'all and didn't even know it until now!

*Maybe . . . the happiest of people don't necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the most of everything that comes along their way.  I make the most of every morsel I receive from all of you.

*Maybe . . . the brightest future will always be based on a forgotten past; after all, you can't go on successfully in life until you let go of your past mistakes, failures and heartaches.  I will let go of my mistakes, failures and heartaches.  With the support of each and every one of us, how can we fail?

HAVE A GREAT EVENING Y'ALL!!!
LOVE YA'
ANN

I'm assuming that's what it's for.  Anyway, Bikini Girl is from American Idol- don't know if you watch it.  If you do watch AI, then you should know who Bikini Girl is (was).  She got booted off last week.

Thanks for you highly anticipated story of the day Ann! It was a good one like always! I never have time to watch AI or any of the other shows that come on before 10 with my little ones....Although I did see bikini girl get put through to Hollywood, and how she tried to make out with Ryan Seacrest afterward! The things people do these days for attention! Maybe if I looked like that....nah, even then, dont think I'd do it! Talking about the Acai Hzl.....do you get the same ads all over your computer for that? Lose 750 pounds in 2 weeks with just these 2 products???? It is suppose to be that Acai, and a cleansing pill of some kind.......Before this diet, I probably would have tried it, knowing it wouldn't work..... Well, off to pick up my daughter...thanks for the chat! lol.....

Zeva- I havent seen any ads for the acai berry I took but it was on oprah and its only one product. I also didnt see anything saying it was for weight loss.. i guess weight loss was supposed to be a plus but  being it is supposedly a super food i was hoping for it to boost energy. They're scammers though. they dont tell you how much the product costs after you pay for shipping. also it took me 3 months to cancel the acct with them because they kept losing my info. I recieved one of the chrgs ($95) back because i complained to my credit card company. NEVER AGAIN!

I dont watch american idol, i used to like to watch the people who cant sing in the beginning but it gets boring to me.

Hzl, you know what works amazing for energy is Mate tea. (Yerba Mate) You can buy it at any health food store, or at my favorite tea store Teavana (which you can shop online) It is the only thing that gives me energy...I can drink 10 red bulls, and have it do nothing! Sweeten it with something...I use splenda, and I'm sure you will have enough energy to run here to california!

Hzl...sorry to get back to you so late.... The Mate tea never made me jittery, but I did notice that I got a lot of cleaning done while drinking it..... It gave me energy ALL day long. So DO NOT drink it before bed....maybe just a cup when you get up, and that should last you all day. It does supress your appetite too, so keep an eye on your times not to go too long without eating! Hope it helps!!!

On the subject of energy drinks- I have a drink that is WONDERFUL- DIVINE!!  It's like drinking a Coke- well, to me, all soft drinks, sodas, pops are Cokes- remember, I'm from the south.  Anyway, it's called XS Energy.  Very little if ANY CAFFEINE (depending on which one you want) in these little boogers.  The energy comes from 4000-8000% Vitamin B12 (and also B6).  Only 8-10 calories- 0-1 g sugar, no fat- variety of flavors and they are all AWESOME.  There's really on nutritional value to them- there are a few vitamins in them but the main point I believe is the energy factor and from where the energy is derived- not a huge caffeine source.

If you want to know more about it, just PM me.

I am going to check into that tea too. I could definately use some energy!

On a sad note, there is a 5 year old girl that went missing in the middle of the night on Monday in my area. Please pray for her safe return and for her family. I can not imagine something happening to one of my children. I have a 5 year old as well so this has really hit home.

Snord- that is so sad. she is so cute. I moved to PA about a year and a half ago from CT. About 3 months ago when I logged into my myspace account it said there was a code (color of some sort) i assumed it was an ad and ignored it. Later that day as I was driving there was a few huge digital signs that said code (im thinking purple). I still had no idea what it meant. I went home and looked it up...I wasnt aware that places had digital signs to tell people that a child has gone missing.. do other states have that? i have never seen it before moving here. i think its definately a good idea.

Hzl, it's called an Amber alert. It was named after a girl named Amber who was abducted. The signs usually give info about a car, or licence plates...the idea is to alert as many people as possible so the child can be found quickly, and hopefully without being harmed. We have the signs all over here in L.A.

Snord, will definately keep her and her family in my prayers. I have a 6 and 7 year old....I would be devistated if anything ever happened to them.

I hear you Zeva. I have a 5 year old boy and a 8 year old girl. This terrifies me to death. We live in the sticks and my husband is out of town this week so I put my kids in the bed with me when he is gone. Something is a little fishy with this story though. I am hoping it isn't another Casey Anthony situation.

How awful are some of these stories that you hear. And why so many all of a sudden. Is it that we never heard when these things happenned before or are people just crazier now. It gets me so angry when I hear about kids being mistreated and hurt. They didn't ask to be where they are. How heartbreaking. I have two children girls 15 and 12, if anything ever happenned to them I don't know what I would do. And if the girl was really abducted how devastating for the parents. I think everybody sometime has had that moment when you turn around and your child that you thought was right on the side of you is not there and you loose your mind for that second or minute until you see them. Either way just terrible!!

Well, we all know what tomorrow is so why don't we end the day today with the...

STORY O' THE DAY!!

An Inspirational Thought, Motivational Thought
Valentines Day is NOT only for Lovers

by Catherine Pulsifer

Why it is when we think about Valentines Day we think only of lovers, special relationships.

Why can't on Valentines Day we think about not only the special people in our lives, but, also think about ourselves. There is a saying, "if you don't love yourself, you will never be able to love others."

You may ask, "how do I love myself?". Here are some suggestions that you can do on Valentines Day to love yourself.

1. Look around you and appreciate those who care about you.
be thankful they are in your life.

2. Make a list of all the things you like about yourself.
Don't be modest; this list is for you, no one else.

3. Treat yourself on Valentines Day.
Buy that one thing that you want - it doesn't have to be expensive, but it has to be a treat that you will enjoy.

4. Call your mum or your dad, or that someone who made a difference in your life.
Thank them for caring about you.

5. Enjoy your day.
Remember, "what you do today is important because you are exchanging a day of your life for it."

6. Take 5 minutes and sit quietly and reflect on all the blessings in your life.
Remember there are always those who are in a worse situation than you.

8. Don't be hard on yourself.
When you hear yourself say, "I should have", or "I am so stupid", change your thought. Loving yourself by changing your self-talk to positive self-talk. Would you say those things to your best friend, then, why say them to yourself?

9. Cook or buy your favorite meal for dinner.
Enjoy!

10. Last but not least, start keeping a journal of your accomplishments.
Then when you feel down, or feel that you are not making progress you can review your journal and it will remind you of all the accomplishments you have achieved. And, remember, it is not large accomplishments that makes success, it is the little things we do every day that over time turn into success.

EVERYONE, I MEAN EVERYONE - HAVE A WONDERFUL WEEKEND AND

 LOVE YA'

Hey guys... I'm not sure I have anything to say about anything, but this thread is great.  I'm thinking of Valentine's day tomorrow, but really my main thought is that Carol is home and safe.  We won't have any chocolate or cards or flowers, but that's okay.  At least she's with me.  She's sleeping, now.  I like to watch her breathing.  She's got so much torment in her head, to see her sleeping - removed from the cascade of thoughts in her head - it's just the best.  I reach over and put my hands on her, and Abby gets up on the bed and settles between us, purring.  If only all of life could be that moment.

She's not out of the woods, yet.  Frankly I don't know if I can save her.  But I just looked in on her, soundly asleep, with Abby pressed up against her, and I know there is hope.

May tomorrow be a better day.

I'm in mind of those 50 souls lost in the Buffalo plane crash.  49 Americans.  1 Canadian.  All lost in an instant.  I feel they didn't suffer.  But they must have known, just before the end, that all was lost.  My problems mean nothing by comparison.  God bless them, and take them home.

Larry, forgive me for asking since I've just stepped into the forums, but what happened?  Is someone in your family ill??  PM me and fill me in.  I hope everything is alright.

On a lighter note, did anyone catch the news about pranksters changing road construction signs down in Texas recently to read, "ZOMBIES IN AREA! RUN!"?  How can you get angry at that?!  HOW?!

My first post after the introduction to this chat.  I am so glad others have made use of this.  I think it is a good idea as I know, for me, sometimes I like to go off topic.

So many sad stories lately... the child abduction (very strange to me, too, watching Greta Van Susterern's interview with the dad & girfriend, and mom & grandmother.  For the life of me I do not know how people can hurt children.  How can that be in anyone's heart?!  Then the plane crash... my God.  It breaks my heart that people are gone just like that... no notice, not getting to say goodbye... :crying:  Death is a part of life, but it is one that is very hard to come to terms with for most people, including myself. My heart hurts way too much for people.  Sometimes I cannot even watch the news when it gets so bad. I wish there were a magic wand I could wave and make everyone better and happy.  But, of course, there is not, and we have to learn to accept these things. That does not seem like such a consolation to me. :nono:

On the lighter side... ANN, I love your stories.  They are so encouraging and upbuilding, amd always make me :grin:smile. Thank you for those wonderful "words of wisdom" and "food for thought" that you bless us with.  Also, the laughing emoticons were hilarious!!!  So was Deanna's question!  Thanks for making me laugh so hard, both of you!

Larry - I am always thinking of you and your situation, and hoping for the best.  You are a wonderful man and stronger than you may realize at times.  I admire your tenacity.  I just hope you keep reminders on your fridge or wherever, to take care of YOU, too! Hugs and love to you!

My boyfriend and I have been together for 6.5 years. Food has always always been a big big huge part of our relationship. When we first got our driver's licenses we would go out after school and pick up fastfood, mcdonalds, arbys, tacobell, burgerking, chinese, you name it. We got to the point where we would go to Mcdonalds for the chicken nuggets then hop across the street to burgerking so that I could get their fries a burger and chili. Looking back on it I am sooooooo disgusted.

Now, although I am trying to eat healthier and lose weight I feel like he is holding me back, not on purpose, but only because its a pattern and a comfort level. Our whole relationship was eating. Our favorite memories together involve food. If we were arguing and not getting along we would sit down and eat a meal and everything would be okay, never ever, not once was it a healthy meal, and every single time we would both over do it and wind up feeling sick, but we would be happy.

For the most part we have gotten past this. We no longer eat fast food like Mcdonalds or burger king but getting take out is still part of our relationship. Yesterday morning we went to our favorite diner and while we were eating he told me that he likes my cheat days the best because he feels closer to me. Well when he suggests pizza later on this week its going to be very hard for me not to remember that he said that.

He wants me to be happy and he knows that I will never fully be happy if I feel like a big lard a**, but I also want to beable to make him happy. What if he never gets over this whole thing where food either makes or breaks our relationship.

I would really love to hear from everyone whether you have suggestions for me or if your going through something similar or whatever.

hzl.......I notice that the people who do the best with weight
control are people with a passion for something....and thats
what needs to happen for you....something that inspires you so
much that food is not paramount.  I know people who are
dedicated to the arts that live and breath it....they often are
so caught up in what they do that they forget to eat...
We seem to be coming from all walks of life here, cultural
differences, age differences and educational backgrounds...however we are all in the same situation...we let
food become a dominating force in our lives.   Many of us
just have to deal with the fact that we ate to much and sold our
souls to the Carb Devil.....You have to really want your life to
work and that means work....nothing worth while does not
involve some kind of work.....rejoice in what you can have instead of regretting what you can't....not only will you feel better....you will have a surge of energy which will
lead to your personal passion......Be strong like a warrior!

Deanna- My problem is that I have nothing that I'm passionate about. I don't have a hobby, i dont have a career path. There is nothing that I can think of that I would like to spend the rest of my life doing. I'm not sure if its a lack of motivation or what but hearing people talk about how much they love doing something upsets me. I will get extremely involved in something for like a week and then all of a sudden I get bored and I'm stcuk with $200 in beads for the necklaces and earrings I will never make or the education of an aesthetician and will never use it because I decided I dont want to touch peoples faces for the rest of my life. One of my 2009 goals is to choose a carrer path, thats all just choose it, so that I can either go back to school or start looking into how i would go aboutgetting into the field I want.  I'm sure my indecisiveness plays a role with not having the self control I need to over food.

Has anyone ever used hypnosis for anything? I was thinking maybe I can be hypnotized to be given motivation or will power.

Hzley- I understand where you are coming from too. Dave Ramsey talks about doing the work you love....I have no idea what that would be. I have a bachelors degree in Business Management...and hate my job. As a matter of fact, I don't think I have ever had a job that I loved. I wish I could be a stay at home mom...lol. Maybe that is my passion. No kind of work seems fun to me...even though I work my butt off!

Snord-  I think I should aspire to be a trophy wife... That way I can tan and get my hair and nails done everyday. I'll cook and clean and take care of the pets... no kids thank you. When I moved to PA I didnt have a job for about a month. the worst month of my life, i used to have the girl who took my place at my old job in CT call me and ask me questions about registrations and title issues just so my brain wouldnt turn to mush. My bf is finishing up his schooling to be a certified VW mechanic... I am sooooo jealous of him, he looooooves working on cars. I want to find something that I love to do... besides spending money...

Hazel - don't rush life. To quote that awful (yet kind of insightful) "song" - Everybody's free (To Wear Sunscreen).

Don’t feel guilty if you don’t know what you want to do with your life…the most interesting people I know didn’t know at 22 what they wanted to do with their lives, some of the most interesting 40 year olds I know still don’t.

Live a little, work at boring jobs, find out what you liked in those boring jobs. Was it talking to people, solving problems, being able to nut away at a task for hours. Find out what you hated about those boring jobs. Was it talking to people, solving problems, being able to nut away at a task for hours..

I'm nearly 37. I have a degree in marketing and advertising and I am STILL waiting for my career to come calling (for some reason my application to be chief masseuse to the All Blacks keeps getting rejected).

And remember - Do one thing everyday that scares you

Hugs

But trust me on the sunscreen…

Hzl...I want to go back to what you said about food and relationships:shock:  MY DH is great about this plan (as long as he eats well) very supportive...BUT...my family (meaning the one I grew up in) you spell love F-O-O-D and lots of it!!  They eat and eat  and eat at every get together...they are a lot of fun and celebrate EVERYTHING but they want everyone to eat eat eat...infact that is a joke in our house because my mother says "eat eat eat" and keeps forcing food on everyone!! If you lose weight you are told.."you look too thin"...so I understand how hard it is to feel close and not have food be the center of closeness...the tie that binds.  It can be challenging to eat healthy and stop when satisfied when others put a guilt trip on you when you stop!

Hzl- let me ask you one very simple question.  Don't get bogged down in "OMG!"  Just close your eyes and ask yourself this very simple question.  "What would I like to be doing right now?"  Forget the word career; forget passon; forget motivation.  Just simply answer the question.  Even if the answer is "swimming," or "watching TV," or "washing dishes," or "cooking."  Just a simple answer to a very simple question.  Don't dwell on it; just close your eyes, think for a second and then answer your question.  If you want, PM me.

Take care.
Ann

Hazleyez - About passions... You need to look at what you love, or at least what you LIKE.  Sometimes it is something you may not even expect that will lead you to you life's passion.  Other things can be stepping stones to get you to that path, so always keep your eyes and ears open to possibilities.  I will explain more later.  I have so many passions, I make myself crazy.  But I am never bored!  My brother once told me when I complained to him about being a jack of all trades but a master of none... he said what an intersting person I am, though. I can talk to almost anyone about anything.  If I were a brain surgeon, (not knocking brain surgeons..) but if I only knew one thing/were fluent in only one idea, how interesting would I be in a regular world?  That made me feel much better!  When there is something I love, I indulge myself in every aspect of it and, like a sponge, I soak it all in.  I enjoy it for a while, and then move on to something else.  There are some things that"hang around longer" because I care about them much more.  But do not worry that you haven't found ONE passion that is the "end all".  Life is a journey.  There are so many undiscovereds out there for you.  Look at it as a treasure hunt and don't try too hard to look for SOMETHING, or you may pass it right by.

So now for a different subject...

Tomorrow HGTV is having a giveaway of this gorgeous farmhouse in Sonoma, which is not too very far from me.  I entered the sweepstakes a couple of weeks ago, and I will move there in a heartbeat if I were to win.  You can enter the sweepstakes everyday, but I only entered once, when I found that the drawing was on February 19th, which is my surgery date (tomorrow).  I feel if something is meant to be, it will be.  So I did not enter again.  All my friends, I want this house so bad.  It is my dream home.  Here is the link if any of you would like to enter as it is a BEAUTY! http://www.hgtv.com/hgtv-dream-home-2009-giveaway-enter/package/index.html?nl=HGTV-DH09-PC7_enter-top

So if any of you win, I would just request that you invite me there, so I can help you decorate it! I have beautiful vintage and antique pieces in my storage that are meant for that home. And I need them to be OUT of storage and somewhere where someone can love and enjoy them.  Of course, I would prefer it were to be me, but I would love it if someone I "knew", if it is not me.  Also you wil receive a brand new car (I forget the make/model), but what a nice gift!  A new house, a new car... maybe someone can figure out a way to make this something a life "passion" can evolve from. I know I could!

OK, so it is obvious I am a little nervous about tomorrow.  I am thinking too much, but this could be a GOOD thing.  Someone has to win it, right?  It may as well be one of us!

~Margo
