I hate to see people have these surgeries if they really don't need them.  I have a friend who's been obese since I've known her.  (12 years) As far as I know she was in the 350's or higher....  So last December she was diagnosed with high blood pressure for the first time.  It spooked her.  She was the most determined person I've ever seen!  The woman started going to the gym right away.  Slow at first just doing easy things.  Now she goes 1 or 2 times a day 5 days a week.  I'm not sure of her exact loss (i'll ask her) but I do know that she's lost 8 inches on her waist so far and went from a 2X to a 22 so far.  I'll ask her if I can post her before and now pics.  A few weeks ago she went to her doctor and asked about the surgery and he said no way!  She was doing so well doing it the right way.  She's got a ways to go but is doing so well!

But is she really wanting the surgery or is she wanting to lose it all on her own?  It is really hard to lose it on your own and what she has done so far is GREAT, it is just really hard when you get to that stage were you just can't seem to lose at that time(mostly b/c your gaining muscle).  Anyways what I am trying to say is that I hope that when this occurs that she doesn't get discouraged with it and quit your go back to her old ways.  Then go to a different doctor to have the surgery.  Wish her the best with or without the surgery.

I am completely convinced that if I can lose weight, stick to a healthy eating style for two years and beat a terrible binge eating disorder, than anyone can!  If she's making it happen, she can continue to make it happen.  Keep encouraging her DaniMae!  I work in a hospital and I see people come in after they've had the weightloss surgery, sure they lost weight, but guess what?  Each and every one of them is suffering from deficiencies and malabsorption due to the surgery and they become quite ill.  The lap band is the only exception in my opinion.  Any other weight loss surgery is a quick trip to poor health and an early grave.
