I never really considered any kind of surgery being necessary, or really the type of thing I'd ever do.   However after losing 70+ pounds and closing in on my goal, its sort of depressing having a bit too much skin esp. on my tummy, and thighs.  It's not excessive where there would be any medical need, so this must mean I have more vanity than I thought

Anyway, my question is:  How long after you reach your goal weight will you have seen the maximum natural improvement (shrinkage) in your skin?  Do you need to give it 6 months?  A year?

Molly, I figure as soon as I'm done losing, I'll wait as long as it did to get my skin back in shape after I had the baby.  It's been almost three years.  It improved up until about two years and hasn't got better since.

Mol, I believe that most plastic surgeons won't even consider that type of surgery until you've maintained your goal weight for at least a year (barring health complications).  I think that's a sound thing!

Oh, definitely.  I am glad there is some hope that things will improve over the longer run.  I am not really very warm on the idea of doing any kind of surgery.

Molly, have you read up on body brushing. I think it helps with extra skin. I have been doing that, ab exercises and creams on my stomach. I am going to keep doing this until next summer. But, I can see some of it getting better.

Now I am on a big quest to get rid of stretch marks. I will let you know, if I find something for that.

I personally am hoping that doing all this stuff will help my stomach. The rest of me is not to bad. My arms have a little sag to them, but not real noticeable. I think aerobics has been helping with that.

Anyway, I agree with midge, give it some time.

I waited a year.... and now it's one year past the surgery, and I am still seeing some "skin changes"

However I am an "old Fart" and my skin is not as elastic as it was in my youth..

Mol, if you want to talk tummy tuck and lipo, PM me.  I had mine done about a year after losing my weight.  Even though I've gained weight some back, I don't the saggy skin that I had before.  BUT, it was a very hard surgical procedure, not without complications.

hiya!

i had a tummy tuck when i was still 14stone in weight (5'6" in height) and i always had a baggy belly from having kids!

best thing i ever did and it is well worth the money (painful though!!) worst bit is getting the compresser garment on when you leave - i screamed in pain!!

but three years on, my tummy is still just as flat whether i am thinner or fatter, they did a fab job and a scar is so much better than a baggy belly!

if you have the money - do it! you honest will not regret it - just make sure you find an approved surgeon (preferbably on recommendation which is what i did) my next door neighbour had hers done and i just used her surgeon.

good luck!
