I have spent the last few weeks trawling the net and researching for a way of eating that I could live with. The 'trend' these days seems to be with low/no carb WOE's. Whilst some include veges as carbs they are fairly restricted, and fruit is almost non-existant. Apart from that the amount of animal protein and fats (so called 'good' fats was really beyond high in some [up to 80%]. I came pretty close to starting Atkins...but for the life of me...despite the'science' couldn't really grasp the sense of it. While at a low-carb forum I read a post from someone who was having success with ETL. Hence...I end up here. Now THIS is something I can live with...followed a WOE similar to this...Fit for Life..some years ago and it was Great...Lost heaps of weight, gained masses of energy. FFL seems to have fallen by the wayside somewhat...the reason I was searching around..but it did advocate at least 80% of diet be from fruit and vege. They also did some food combining stuff...[which I think worked]...but didn't really back it up in a 'scientific' manner....[guess that made it easier for people to trash it as a 'fad']. Any how...sorry for the novel...but I will be getting the ETL book and starting this WOE tomorrow...for WHATEVER reason it just makes sense to me!
Will let you know how I go....Keep on posting guys...this is a good forum and I look forward to being a part of it

Hello there! A little over a year ago, I started ETL. I lost a little over 40 pounds in about 6 months. I sustained the weight loss for about 9 months over all, but slowly slipped into some of my former bad eating habits ( a allowed myself more SAD fare). I had to stay off my ankle for about a week in July and never quite went back to the exercise regimen of running 3-4 days a week....and a year and 3 months later from initially starting ETL, I gained about 10 of those pounds back.
Althought not entirely a strict adherent of ETL, I can feel the difference... I had so much more energy, I felt healthier when I was eating that pound and a half to two pounds of vegetables a day.
I am gradually increasing the nutrient dense foods and in turn I don't have enough room for the "junk". Not the easiest of diets when you are surrounded by SAD fare all around, but its definitely do-able. And the quick weight loss (at least initially) is self-rewarding. I wish you the best of luck on ETL!

Thankyou Rdy2run
I think you did great in only gaining back 10lbs in that time! Many people gain almost ALL the weight back.
When I was eating around 80% fruit and vege a few years ago I lost a similar amount of weight...20 kgs in 5mth...unfortunately...I'm one of those who put it ALL back on.
You are right about it not being an easy WOE with so much 'rubbish' fare around...one thing I did find though is that the longer you stick with it the less your body seems to tolerate the 'junk'. Hoping to get to that place again
I also had a huge amount of energy...have never had that with any other WOE.
Here's hoping we both can continue to do our bodies the favour of eating to live!
