Yes, Bert, I second Anne's opinoin, you can not put your mother outside in the next storm. Of course if you put her out there with your brother the take care of her maybe it would be okay then .
No exercise for me today, I decided to give myself the day off. I have a lot of work to catch up on and I really wasn't in the mood so there are my excuses. Maybe not the best but they will have to do .
Have a great day Spice Buds.

Anne, you crack me up! I hadn't thought of that but now.....
Worked hard last night on shoulders, biceps and triceps. I haven't decided what I want to do tonight. I'm either going to do an hour of stretching of that Insanity cardio workout I have. Depends how I feel.
Kind of a busy day today. Lunch at the Billy Graham Evangilistic Assoc. with some friends (a good buddy of mine works there), a meeting with an elementary school to discuss designing a Spanish course for teachers and then to one of our other campuses to drop off class materials and copies of exams for instructors. I'll hit the exercise after that.
Have a wonderful day, spicy ones.

Well, actually, Bert, it did post! Twice in fact! I had trouble with a post yesterday as well but it did get posted.
Today is the first day this week where I think I can breathe a bit. I have been so dang busy. I am still busy but at least I am not going to work much today (job work). Instead, I am going to try to do paperwork, paperwork, paperwork, paperwork. I feel the need to vent here. I am in charge of everything around here except house building and I get involved in that too. Plus I am chief procurement officer for it. I feel overwhelmed alot. Not like over my head overwhelmed but just like I can't take a break overwhelmed. As I write this, I am thinking about all the other things I do so maybe I should just shut up. I guess it's just when we are home, I am always producing, always trying to get something done. I can't imagine having time to watch TV. The computer is my TV (screen) only I am not entertaining myself with it. I don't know if this even makes any sense.
I got the courage to step on the scale after my excursion. Well, my 30 lb goal is still the same. You'd think I would start to work on it one of these days. At least it didn't go to 35.
I've noticed I am not being good on the grazing. I really need to focus on that and a bunch of other stuff too. Do you think I can lose 10 lbs before Thanksgiving? No, I don't think so either but I do think I can make some progress and then if I don't gain over Thanksgiving then at least I will be better off.
Well, I better go get some exercise. Have a good day!

Anne, I know what you mean when you say "overwhelmed." You can handle all the stuff but there doesn't seem to be any time for you and there in lies the problem. You have to make time for you! It may mean carving time for exercise or time to read a book or paint (canvas not the house), etc.
These are the things that help us cope with the daily stress in life. They're things we look forward to and when we have things to look forward to, our stress level goes down. That's why we look forward to Friday. The weekend is at hand. Sunday night the stress level goes back up and so it goes, week by week. Having things to look forward to help us balance the stress regularly.
Also, being busy with fun stuff (stuff for us) can keep us occupied to the point where we'll keep from the grazing. The main thing though is that when setting priorities, put yourself up at the top because if anything happens to you, you can't help anyone else.
10 lbs. in two weeks??? You could do it with a lot of exercise and eating right the whole time but that's like cramming for an exam. Not good. Stay with your plan, both eating and exercise and enjoy Thanksgiving. Then get back on the horse again. You'll have something to look forward to, enjoy the day, and not feel deprived when you get back on the plan.
Take care of yourself, my friends. You're the only YOU that you have.

Good morning guys. We made it to Friay .
Anne, Iit sounds like you have a lot on your plate and with the house stuff added can see why it overwhelming. Maybe you need to let go a little? I don't know if it's true for you but I know often when feel that way it is becuse it is becuase I try to control everything around me. I do find if can just let go a little others are capable of doig a lot of that stuff, maybe not my way but it gets done. As for the 10 pounds in weeks...tbat's crazy talk girl...why put yourself under that kind of pressure? I say keep doing what you're doing, take it slow and it will happen. How about a more modest goal...say 10 pounds by New Years? That would keep you moving forward and keep you conscious of it over the holidays?
Well, we are getting the tail end of that hurricane Ida(?) and it is going to be a lousy day tomorrow so I don't think I will get much walking in....maybe a trip to the gym.
Have a great weekend Spice Buddies.
The screen is really wierd this morning, no spell check or any of those options. Hope this posts.

Good morning ladies,
All I did last night was an hour of stretching. I was really stiff yesterday for some reason and my lower left back was really bothering me. I didn't want to push it. I think it's a combination of the long hike on Saturday (didn't do any stretching before or after ), laying off last week in general and getting back to it hard this week. I may have aggravated my back. I was supposed to do abs this morning but elected not to so I could workout tonight.
I'm glad the weekend is here. I'm going to the shooting range with my son in the morning and then back to his house to do some reloading on his new equipment. I'll get to see the little people too.
Fran, we had 4 days of Ida and I'm glad she's gone. We lost two trees in the back yard and there are several branches down.
Have a great weekend, ladies.
I loves 'ya!

Good morning guys. Hope you both had good weekends?
I got in a good workout on Saturday morning at the gym but Sunday we were suppose to take the dogs out and unfortunately it was still raining so we didn't. Instead we went to IHOP, I have been dying for the gingerbread pancakes they have been advertising. I did well, I only had a short stack (2 pancakes) and no sides so it really wasn't all that bad. When we got home we both got out our laptops and we managed to do about 90% of our Christmas shopping. The stuff that's left is easy, a bottle of wine, a couple gift cards for the teenagers; just easy things like that. I really am pleased to have done so much so early....now if I could just get the wrapping done early .
Have a great day and be strong.

Mornin' ladies,
Well, I didn't get anything in Friday or Saturday exercise wise. I did a 5 mile run on Sunday. It had been a while since I did that so I had to stop a few times to walk. I probably ran 4 and walked 1. At one point I stopped and did 5 pushups too, just for the heck of it.
I did get up and worked on abs this morning and I'll do chest and back tonight. Gotta keep it up in anticipation of the great November pig out.
I haven't done any Christmas shopping yet. Mary Ellen has for the grandkids and nieces and nephews but I think we'll just give each other something small as we're saving for a big vacation in summer. Dang I'll be P.O.'d if we have a big tax bill.
Have a great day, my spicy loves.

Bert, do you mean to tell me Mary Ellen does all the shopping and you just have her....boy you are one lucky man. Frank would never get away with that one . Especially since we don't really exchange gifts between ourselves that would mean he would do nothing....somehthing he is very good at by the way .

OK, you guys!!!
Christmas shopping done already? OMG, I can't believe it and I am sooo jealous. Ray does not do much shopping (like Bert) and I am thinking that I will really be cutting back this year. I mean, what do people need anyway?
So where did you shop online, Fran? What kinds of things did you get? I have been poking around a bit - some good sales coming up - but I haven't done much about it. I really like all the free shipping deals this time of year. I hate to pay for shipping.
I am impressed with the 5 pushups in the middle of your run, Bert. You couldn't do that around here - unless you wanted to do them in the snow or the mud!
I was really good all weekend. Watched what I ate really carefully and worked out every day. I have been pushing myself on the cross trainer but I really have to exercise discipline to get started. Once I do it though, it is OK. Today I did 4 miles in 40 minutes which probably doesn't sound like much but that is pretty aerobic. I used to run a 7 minute mile which is why it sounds bad to me but they are different. Reality is that I couldn't run a 7 minute mile now anyway.
I totally laid off any treats over the weekend. I normally alow myself 130 calories per day but I decided that after going off in such a big way when I was gone that I needed to reset my cravings. I am feeling better.
Bert, I love that you cook. You can come to my house (kitchen) any time!

Hi guys.
Today is weigh in day on the holiday challenge and I am down 2.2, of course that is only because I gained for 3 straight weeks. I am kind of stuck between 125 and 135 which is about 5 pounds heavier than I want but the frustrating part is trying to keep it in the range without going up so close to the top that I have to get really strict again. I really want to reach the point where I go up or down a couple pounds but I am basically always in the 120,s. I really want to break this cycle so we'll see but w/ the holiday coming I have to be somewhat realistic too. I at least want to get back to that 125 figure and then go for that last 5 pounds maybe in January. This really is a never ending battle.

Hi gals,
Well, I worked on my chest and back last night. I'm still doing the negative pullups to build strength and I can tell it's working. I can lower myself on the bar much more slowly than before and feel I have much more strength to control the descent. Time will tell. Still hoping to do 10 pullups unassisted by January.
Fran, don't fret over Thanksgiving. Eat what you want. Just watch the portion size, pick an item or two that you really want and hold back on some others and get plenty of exercise to burn the calories. You'll be fine. You're doing well and you have a plan. That's important.
Anne, I don't know if I remember what you have planned for Thanksgiving. Are you having company or out of town again? Seems the older I get the more I suffer from CRAFT disease.
Have a great day, my spicy loves!

Good morning, Spices,
Fran, I know what you mean about this being a never-ending battle. Why is it so much easier to make 3000 calories per day a lifestyle than 1500? You would think that lifestyle means that it gets easier - and it does to a point - but I think what it really means is that you always need to work at it. Both you and Bert have done sooo well. The typical person gains all their lost weight back and more - but you are treating it like a lifestyle. So congratulations!!!
Bert, can you explain a negative pullup? Does it mean you are holding the bar with your palms facing toward you? I really can't imagine. You must have very bulging muscles!
We are having a group for Thanksgiving. Originally, it was going to be 14 but then 2 couples could not come. Then one of my friends is in the hospital right now so they may not come depending on how she is doing, so we may be down to 8. I am trying to spread the cooking out a bit so that I don't have to do it all at once. Last night I made cranberry sauce. It has cranberries, orange, raisins, walnuts and SUGAR. I cut the sugar down but it is still high. If it was just for me, I would have tried splenda but I know some people don't like to have that.
My favorite thing at Thanksgiving is the stuffing. I make a really good stuffing that was my grandmother's recipe. It has lots of sausage in it! So when you were saying to have one or two things that you want, Bert, that is it for me. Eggnog is another issue between Thanksgiving and Christmas. I love eggnog. But the calories are so extreme that I hate to have it around - too much of a temptation. I have tried the lowfat variety and it is OK but not great. Have either of you come across a good eggnog solution?
Gobble, gobble
Anne
PS: we have wild turkeys roaming on our property. They are huge.

Anne,
I'll send you the pullup routine regarding the "negatives." It's something designed for those of us who struggle with them so no, I don't have bulging muscles but I can say they're bigger than they were in January. Try the routine. It's great for building upper body strength.
Eggnog; yes, I have a solution. Throw out all the dairy part and just drink the bourbon.
We're having 16 for Thanksgiving and I just heard from my sister and she and her husband will be staying with us Wednesday and Thursday and maybe Friday. I may be out of town Friday if I get the chance to go deer hunting but we'll see.
I hope I can stay spot on with my eating from now through next week. Conceivably I could lose between 1-3 lbs, allowing me to pig out on Thursday but the ideal scenario is to exercise discretion with everything. NAH!
One other thing. Does your cranberry sauce jiggle when on a plate? If it doesn't jiggle it's not cranberry sauce.

Hi guys.
Bert, thanks for the info on the negative pull ups. I might give one or two a try....If I can even do one . I am working on push-ups still. I can do 10 girly push ups, I think I am going to try and add one real push up to the routine.
Anne, I love egg nog too and it is a challenge, the light stuff is not worth it if you ask me. I'd rather have less of the real one, well "real" to me means store bought of course. Anyway it isn't a fantastic thing but what I've been doing is buying the "individual" size, I get Hood and they are 14oz bottles but I treat them like a family portion. I just have 4 oz cups at a time but I make it a real treat, I use a nice glass and I put nutmeg on the top and then I sit down and enjoy it as I would an alcoholic beverage. Kind of make it a ritual and then I seem to enjoy my small glass. In the old days I would chug an 8 oz glass and not give it much thought. Anyway, I know non of this lowers the calories but it seems to help me some. But I could always have more of course . I just have to tell myself those old habits are what put that 60 pounds on me and if I don't want them back I have to change and for me how I drink egg nog is one of those changes. Hope this helps.
Have a great day guys.

Hi gals,
Well, I did Plyometrics last night but couldn't finish. I ran out of juice. I still got about 35-40 minutes in though and worked until I couldn't do any more. I also had some knee pain from my run Sunday and didn't want to risk aggravating it.
Fran, it's great that you make a ritual with the eggnog. Doing something like that makes it something to look forward to and enhances the overall enjoyment of it so you get the maximum benefit! Way to go!
Regarding the "girly" pushups, as you call them, if you are starting on your knees and are thinking of then switching to ones on your toes, start on your toes and do what you can and then go to your knees. As long as you're working your chest, shoulders, etc., you'll continue to build strength.
You know, you may want to start on your toes and do some negative pushups. Try the same thing that I'm doing with the pullups. By that I mean start in the plank position and slowly lower yourself to your chest and then do it again. Don't try to "push up" but let gravity bring you down and resist against that. Try to do three sets of those, 5-6 reps, and count while lowering yourself for 6-8 seconds. Wait a couple of days before you do it again. Let me know if that has an effect. Also, it may help to widen your arms a little for a more stable platform and spread your feet a little instead of keeping them together. You'll get it!!!
Anne, you know, sometimes I think I am a masochist. I've gotten to the point that I can tell the difference between the pain of injury or potential injury and the pain of having worked a muscle to failure. I love the latter.
Have a great day, my spicy ones!
I loves 'ya!

Do what you can. Try to do 5-6 on the first set. If you can only do 3, so be it. That's fine. Do your best and forget the rest.

Talking about eggnog makes me hungry! It sounds like we are eggnog soulmates, Fran. When Bert suggested throwing out the eggnog and keeping the bourbon, I just about died! I never put alcohol in my eggnog! I know it is a popular thing but I just want that pure taste! I think with all the alcohol that I don't drink during the year that I can have an eggnog!
I have been staying on the straight and narrow. I was down 3 but then I went up 1 again. I thought it would disappear but it is still there today. Well, I know if I just keep at it, it will finally give in.
Have a good day, Spices!

Regarding, pure taste...I'm right there with 'ya. No mixers in my bourbon.
Regarding your weight loss. 1. You're losing! That's great!!! 2. You still have a net loss of 2 lbs. Also great!!!!!
Don't be so hard on yourself. You are doing very well. You still have a week until Thanksgiving too! Just make sure you continue to eat and don't let your body go into starvation mode which will hold on to any fat stores you may have.
Lastly, do you really drink eggnog from a martini glass????
Have a great day, Roxie!!

Anne, great job on the loss, 2 pounds if fantastic and like Bert said a week to go before Thanksgiving and then what the heck...it is one day so you are cruising girl.
As to the alcohol, I prefer Scotch no mixers but I do take it on the rocks. My all time favorite is a rusty nail, scotch and drambui, a couple of those and I am one happy camper. As for eggnog, that I take "neat", no messing w/ our Eggnog right Anne?

You got it, Girl!
As for drinking, I am a bit of a wuss. A glass of wine occasionally. A light beer with the right food (mexican, pizza or burgers). Fu-fu drinks like margaritas, pina coladas, golden cadillacs, daquiris - you get the idea!
No, I don't really drink eggnog out of a martini glass but it might be a good idea. I certainly am not going to use a martini glass for a martini!

You guys might be onto (is that suppose to be one word?) something, I might just have my next glass of eggnog out of martini glass. I swear the whole making it a ritual really does make it special and even more enjoyable.
No exercise today, still a little sore from yesterday...too many push ups I think...that would be like 5 .
Yearly check up with the doc today, since I've lost weight I actually like going for my check up. See how sick I am, when I should be going because I'm overweight and my numbers are bad I don't want to. Now that things are better I want to go...guess I just want to brag. Bert, you must feel that way even more with what you have done with yourself .
Well, I gotta run, kind of a busy day ahead. Take care Spice Buds.

Hi gals,
Anne, you have quite a list of adult beverages there. It would seem easier to list those things you don't drink. I've actually cut way back on my whiskey consumption and drinking in general due to the calories and the fact that alcohol impedes the fat burning process. Mary Ellen and I do enjoy wine occaisionaly though. We're going to her brother's tomorrow night for a wine party. Nothing over $10 and labels covered and everyone will have a taste. Should be fun.
Fran, you're right about going to the doctor's. He loves me. I'm sure doctors all over rejoice when a patient actually takes their health seriously and does what's recommended. I just don't like the digital exam part.
Make everything with good food an event and all meals will be special.
Gotta take off to another campus. Going to help the horticulture school develop a Spanish course for landscapering supervisors.

Anne, I'm with Fran, I really hope you get the stone issue resolved to yours and Ray's liking. You've been through the mill with this. Kick some butt and take names!
Started the X stretch last night but only focused on the upper body and then went through the negative pullup routine.
Going to a wine tasting party tonight and we sit for the grandbabies tomorrow night. Lots to do too to get ready for Thanksgiving company. The next week will be crazy but fun.

Anne,
I may take Wednesday afternoon off, depending on when my sister gets in. Otherwise it's just Thursday and Friday. May get a chance to go deer hunting but don't know yet.

| Like Bert, I too only have Thursday and Friday off, I hope to get the Christmas shopping done and then I can think about wrapping and cards...I do love Christmas cards.
