One thing I worry about on this diet is that lack of dairy products. Anyone have any idea why there is so few? I'd love a bit of yogurt now and then! Any opinions out there on this? I don't want all us IPD'ers to end up with osteo! |

I am not familiar with your diet plan, but if you eat the right foods you certainly don't need dairy to get enough calcium. The topic wanders around a bit, but take a look at this thread, Calcium without Dairy: http://www.caloriesperhour.com/forums/view_topic.php?id=1273&forum_id=4&highlight=calcium Peter |

Chesed, there are great calcium supplements out there for those who are concerned about not getting enough. Also, the smoothie, milkshake and cottage cheese will allow calcium in the meal plan. You can get the OJ with calcuim for the smoothie. Some veggies like broccoli, spinach, and most greens (collards, kale) contain calcium. As well as black beans, navy bean and almonds. So, I don't think there should be a real concern about a calcium defiency with the plan, since there are so many ways to get it in. Hope this helps. Jayelle ![]() |

Hi! As a woman heading into (or maybe I'm already there) a different phase of life, I'm wondering if anyone out there has/is going through the same things that I am. I'm thrilled that I've lost the weight that I have but now I see a definite slowing down. When I first started the program, I could hear my stomach grumbling which, in my mind, was my metabolism gearing up. Lately, I haven't been as hungry, my stomach isn't growling and I've gained two pounds -- I did cheat some, but I'm back at it with a vengeance with no loss so far. I also started HRT a couple of weeks ago and am wondering if that is affecting my progress. Anyone out there in my position? |

I started HRT about a year ago and have seen about a 20 lb. weight gain!! Part of this I am sure, is due to the fact that I have not been as careful with my foods (types, not quantity ... I love anything deep fried!) as I should be. I have struggled all my life with my weight. When I hit about 20 lbs. over my optimum weight, I become concerned and then wait until about 30 lbs. over to do anything about it!! I'm there now .... I have been reading about this diet and decided to give it a shot. I am beginning day 4 and am the same weight as when I started BUT, I do think I may have lost some inches - can't find my tape measure so I'll have to get a new one! I have followed the diet to the letter, including the water but instead of walking, I have been doing light aerobics. I'm going to try not to weigh again until the end of the 11 days, but that's really tough. |

Hi fwalter and welcome the WL4I! I'm hoping that my body will adjust to HRT and I'll start losing again. That being said, I definitely will take the weight gain over the flashes and not sleeping any time!!I never had much of a weight problem before but being tall (5'10") it kind of crept up on me. I have always been fairly active and knew that I could stand to lose a few, but I actually started to feel uncomfortable and didn't like the way I looked. I tried cuttintg calories and exercising more several times but my metabolism was virtually non-existent. This plan seemed to wake it up and the weight started to come off rather easily. I'm really glad now that I lost some weight before I started HRT. I'm sure you're going to do great! I know it's hard, but try not to weigh yourself -- I think your body is so confused about what's going on, it takes a few days to adjust. I really do recommend trying to do the walking -- I think it makes a difference. |

Hi shamrock and thanks for the words of encouragement. I live in a remote part of Oregon and between the rough terrain, the highway and the rain it makes it rather difficult to take walks around here, which is why I'm doing the light aerobics. I don't even break much of a sweat but I can feel a bit of a boost in heart rate. I have also considered getting a treadmill. You sure are right about the trade-off for HRT and the sleepless, sweaty alternative! Day 11 for me will be 4/7 and I WILL stay off the scale until 4/8. I'll let you know about my dramatic weight loss then! Last edited on 1 April 2006 05:34 am by fwalter |

Hi fwalter: I also have my weigh in at the end of the week -- I did fall off the wagon a little on Saturday -- we had friends over to watch basketball -- I did okay foodwise but had a couple of drinks -- oh well, you gotta live! I'm fortunate that there's a gym in the building where I work so I get on the treadmill at lunchtime. If I didn't do that, I'm not sure I'd get my exercising in! Can't wait to hear how you did -- have a good week. |

I'm so glad I found this thread! I am 49, no signs of menopause yet EXCEPT for the disgusting fact of roundness in the middle. I am 5'7" and lost 5 pounds the first time I did this diet (last month). My goal is 128-130# (started at 145). My lifestyle is fairly active and I eat simply and well, yet my stinking 49yo metabolism must be slowing to a dead crawl. This diet confuses the dreaded metabolism and is shaking things up. I have a treadmill that I use infrequently, but this time on the diet I am faithfully going 30 min/day. I already lift weights somewhat so I will let you know the results after a few more days. (I am on day 2 of the cycle) Most of my clothes are uncomfortable and wearing jeans is agony. THAT is what I am trying to eliminate with this diet! |

Welcome Cowgirl! I'm 48 and, by all outward signs, in the throes of menopause (hot flashes, sleeplesness, irritability (according to my kids and husband), and feeling like I am sometimes losing my mind! All that aside, I started this plan in November and have lost 27 lbs. (my original goal was 25lbs, but after seeing what gravity has done, decided to go for a few more with LOTS of toning)! Since starting HRT about three weeks ago, I have gained a few pounds -- nothing to worry about YET -- but I am determined to keep with the plan. This is the first program that has revved up my metabolism. Like you, I have added weights and even squats (UGH) to my routine. Good luck to us all!!!! |

Good luck with the HRT. I am not looking forward to that prospect and hope to stay away from it. I have been a big consumer of Revival Soy products for about 3 years and hope to maintain their use (once this diet is over and my body is under control again!). I truly believe that vigorous walking and pushing the envelope with free weights are major factors in not becoming soft and round in our 50s. But what a drag it is...... later,,,, |

Last night for dessert I made a wild blackberry pie and ate nary a bite! Aren't I a good girl? Fortunately there were no left-overs for me to pick at either. It's raining here in the Midwest and I'm arguing with another computer in the house that refuses to send youngest son's PowerPoint presentation to his teacher. sigh I have a special outfit that I've earmarked for Easter; that's my incentive to stay on this diet. Maybe I'll go try it on..... Cottage cheese was breakfast; waiting for the strawberries and peaches to thaw for lunch. I have mountains of laundry waiting to be distributed to their rightful owners, cows to check, and banana bread to make so I'm gone.. |

Wow, what willpower -- I'm impressed! I weighed myself (I know I wasn't supposed to and lost 2 of the 4 that I put on) -- maybe my body just needed an "adjustment" period. I haven't been doing that great -- lots of social stuff -- I try to do good but... Anyway, my husband and I are going away (without kids) this weekend -- he's playing golf and I'm getting the "spa treatment" -- CAN"T WAIT! I plan on totally enjoying myself and worry about the consequences on Monday. I had computer problems last week and had trouble sending my son's essay to his Spanish teacher who was nice enough to accept via e-mail since he didn't turn it in as he was supposed ....that's another story! Keep up the good work, it sounds like you're doing great! I'm sure your outfit will fit -- you still have a week and a half! |

Today was my weigh-in after my first 11 days. Not excactly what I had hoped for, lost only 2 pounds. I followed the plan to the letter, including the water & excersise. My portions were quite reasonable, for instance, a can of tuna lasts me 2 days. So... a bit of a disappoinment, to say the least. I'm not going to give up though - heck it's 2 pounds less than I was! I'm on HRT and part of my regimen includes an additional hormone pill every other month for the first 12 days, so I'm hoping that has been a contributing factor to my less than sensational weight-loss. My 3 cheat days are here and I have no cravings for my regular downfall, which is fried foods - so that's good. I'm going to have some orange-pineapple smoothies during these cheat days - jeez, they're good. Will report again on the 22nd after round 2. |

Hi fwalter: Don't get discouraged -- like you said, two pounds down and you're heading in the right direction. You always hear people say that losing 1-2 pounds a week is optimal. On any other plan, you'd probably be ecstatic -- but because this plan touts losing more may be why you're disappointed, but you shouldn't be -- keep up the good work -- I bet you're body is still adjusting to your new way of eating. I'm back on Day 1 today -- when I first started HRT I gained 4 pounds. During the 11 days, I weighed myself and lost 2 of it. I just came off of my three days off (and I went WAY off) so I'm not going to get on the scale again until I feel that I've lost again (at least what I gained). I think women our age have a very tricky metabolism and once you get it moving, you're golden -- it's just getting to that point! |

Okay, here's what's happening to me. I've been back on WLFI since Monday, no cheating. I'm definitely having that "bloated" feeling -- waistband is a little tighter, rings are a little more snug...The good news is that areas where I know I've lost fat (face, thighs, arms) are still as they were -- it's the midsection that's making me feel like I'm gaining. I've done some research online and, apparently, this is a common side affect which may abate in a month or so -- I hope so! I'm not giving up....I am, however, having company coming into town tomorrow for the weekend and I'm going to try not to break bad too much but...the best laid plans.... |

Hi Shamrock ~ Yeah, that old bloated feeling ... Generally the "bloat", when it does decide to go, seems to disappear practically overnight, at least for me anyway. Enjoy your weekend with friends, knowing that you'll get right back on track. My weigh-in is 4/22, that will be my first cheat day of phase 2. We have family coming in on 4/26, so I may just stay on the diet until 4/26 - they'll only be here for 3 days so I'll take my cheat days then. I downloaded the Advanced Dieting Secrets, so I think I'll give it a shot when the family leaves. It aparrently is written by the same people as FLFI. I'ts very strict and does involve portions - not something one could stick with long term. I'll post my weigh-in on 4/22 .... Keep your fingers crossed! While I did not crave fried foods on my days off, I did find pizza and beer pretty entertaining! I had only gained 1 pound at the beginning of phase 2 though. |

Hi fwalter: I'm going to stop complaining and wondering what is going on with my body until after this session is over. I'm starting over from Day 1 because I was SO bad while we had friends visiting that I'm not even going to try to justify anything! My plan is to stick to my printed menu EXACTLY -- not even substituting. If, after 11 days and there is no progress, I'll start my griping again!!! On the other hand, it sounds like you're doing awesome -- keep it up!!! |

Shamrock I'm with you!!! I was terrible over the Easter weekend and gained the five I had lost. Today is Day 1 and I am not deviating from the menu! I must say the wine I indulged in was excellent! And I still fit in the pants I wanted to wear for Easter. But back to the cottage cheese, fruit and nuts. I do love the macadamia and cashews!!! On another note, we had tornadoes all around with no damage to us, but plenty to others nearby. And, we have 62 calves on the ground and 20 to go. |

Congrats on fitting into your Easter outfit -- I must admit, the slacks I wore were a little snug in the waist by the end of the day, but every mimosa and morsel of food was worth it! Glad to hear that you "weathered the storm" okay and that your calves are doing well. Here's to us reporting back with good news about weight loss! |

Yay! Three pounds gone. I'm down to 142 and feel un-bloated. I had vanilla soy milk and a banana this morning; tasted pretty good. The best way for me to motivate myself is to actually have a pair of jeans or a dress that I want to wear on a specific occasion (it may not be an extremely special occasion, even a certain date will suffice). I have lots of middle school and high school events coming up for my kids and I am going to plan certain pairs of jeans (at the moment they are zippable, but I can't actually breathe in them) to wear. Track meets, band concerts, academic banquets (I'm only eating a salad at this) are mostly what is coming up in my life, but there is a large family get-together for a recently married cousin that is in early May and I would like to be in the mid-130# range by then. The wind is blowing about 30mph here today. I'm cleaning the bathroom, then feeding/checking the animals. Have a great day everyone! Last edited on 18 April 2006 06:33 pm by Cowgirl |

Way to go Cowgirl! I'm trying to keep myself motivated by looking at all the ads that come in for Spring and Summer clothes. The one part of me that bothers me the most is my "baggy" upper arms. I know I've lost some weight there because blouses that I wouldn't or couldn't wear before because they felt uncomfortable fit fine now. I've been doing weights and exercising both the outer and inner muscles -- I guess it's just going to take a while. I'm determined to look decent in a sleeveless shirt this summer! |

I am soooo disheartened. Have followed the diet to the letter, no cheating, getting all my water and exercise and here I am on day 10 of phase 2 - nothing!! I gained only 1 pound during my cheat days and that has not come off. That makes a total of only 1 pound lost in a month! I have 30 pounds to lose and think it's reasonable to shoot for late summer but I don't think that this diet is going to do it for me. |

Hi fwalter -- no doubt about it, that would be disappointing to me too but maybe you've lost fat and are toning your muscles and muscle weighs more than fat. Maybe it will take longer to reflect it on your scale, but are your clothes fitting better? There's more than just weight to judge if a plan is working. If not, looking back, is there anything you think you could do differently? Do you think your portions are too big or maybe too many extras on sandwiches .... or something??? Maybe it just takes longer to kick in because of HRT. I have gained, as you know, since starting HRT but I am on day 4 of absolutely no cheating or even substituting, so I won't be able to compare notes with you until the end of next week. Don't give up...at the very least, you know this is a healthy way of eating and combined with drinking lots of water and exercising, only good can come of it! Enjoy your days off - reset your body - and give it another shot!! . |

Hi Shamrock ~ Can't think of a thing. My portions are small, my "delicious omelet" consists of fresh musrooms and spinach an usually one but sometimes 2 eggs. A can of tuna lasts me 2 days with only about 2 teaspoons of that God awful fat free mayo with tons of celery & onion and a little pickle relish. The meat/chicken portions are about 1/4 pound and the sanwiches are way less than 1/4 pound of lean meat with only a tiny bit of the nasty mayo, some dijon mustard and lettuce, tomato and a few slices of dill pickle. No red flags there! The last time I needed to lose weight was about 5 years ago and all I did was watch the fat - no calorie counting, very little exercise and I did not give up beer!! Took me about 5 months to lose 30 pounds. I think I'll go back to that! Hope all is going well for you. I'll keep checking back to see your propgress and let you know how I'm doing. |

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that FL4I follows a somewhat erratic food plan to trick your body into burning more fat. Your baby needs a steady supply of nutritious milk, and I would think that you would need to eat a steady supply of nutritious food to produce the milk. I'd suggest you ask your baby's doctor whether this is a good time to be following such a diet plan. Just my thoughts, Peter |

I think Peter's advice about consulting a doc is the best any of us could give. My gut feeling is that this diet is wrong for breastfeeding. When I breastfed my two kids I remember reading that your body needs the extra calories to make the milk. As this is a low calorie diet I would assume that you would be lacking enough calories to keep you going (it's all tiring enough without reducing calories as well). The calcium from dairy is also important too, and this diet is low on dairy products. If your doc says not to do this diet and you still want to lose weight, then rest assured as breastfeeding is an excellent way to get back into shape Well done with breastfeedng your child I am sure with sensible eating (small portions but regular) would help you without having to do this fixed diet. The general rules atfer the diet should help you now but may not give you rapid results. I hope this helps and isn't coming across as preachy! Remember your water too, this can help you stay alert when nursing.:) JJ |

fwalter wrote: no calorie counting, very little exercise and I did not give up beer!! Took me about 5 months to lose 30 pounds. If you are still around, fwalter, are you drinking water? Are you exercising? I know from above you would rather not and the low calories you are taking in sound like you should lose weight...unless you are always hungry and your body thinks it is starving. If you have something that works, then more power to you and best of luck. If not, please list a couple days of what you put in your mouth and maybe we can spot something different than what we are doing. |

mamachicken, welcome to the forum and to this Way of Eating. Just a bit of advice as eggs do tend to come up a bunch of times, try to only select one egg item per cycle. So if you select omelette, don't choose scrambled eggs or egg salad for that cycle. I say omelette because its so flexible. You can choose to have it with veggies, with meat or with a combination of both.. and if you get tired eating an omelette you can always scramble the eggs and eat them with a strip of bacon or sauage patty, or boil them. I don't think it matters how you prepare your food (excluding frying). Also, you could try to use egg beaters instead of real eggs. Hope this helps. I feel like a big blob the past two days. I am not going to get my hopes up for the Friday weigh-in (conducted stark naked first thing in the morning with the bathroom door locked!:)) I rationalize that even if I maintain the 5# loss, I will be OK with everything and continue for another 11-day cycle. I have not been doing the twice-daily walks, so last evening I rushed out for a jog/walk and felt much better. It is VERY difficult for me to fit the walks into my day, even though I realize that exercise makes all the difference. I'm off to drink water while I visit the farm-parts store, then work on the 'puter (I'm a freelance writer with deadlines), then feed bovines, get kids organized after school to various practices, and don a roll of Saran wrap on my body to greet my husband. (small joke there at the end!) I hope everyone hangs in there. I may sound a bit defeatist today, but truly this metabolism-shake-up-diet is the only thing that has moved the scale and sort of flattened my stomach for about 9 years. I wonder if shortening my cheat days to 2 will harm or help? Any suggestions? |

Hey Cowgirl! I have the same weigh in system that you do (early, eyebrows plucked, nose blown, skin exfoliated, etc) -- hey every little bit helps! I think 5 pounds down is great -- particularly since it doesn't sound like you have much to lose! I weigh in on Friday...I think (hope) that I've at least lost the six lbs. that I gained -- I've been sticking to the diet 95% (I still can't bring myself to eat some of the combos that are generated...i.e. cottage cheese and pasta, etc.). I swore that I wouldn't do any substitutions this time, but you gotta do what you gotta do. I don't think you should cut your cheat days short, just don't go overboard. I really think that you need those days off to re-set your body and confusing your metabolism even more. I'm not sure what my weight loss goal is anymore. Originally I thought 25 lbs. That, obviously, wasn't enough (or is my body melting??!) Anyhoo, I know I have toning to do, but could stand to lose some more, not a lot, but I guess I'll know it when I see it! Here's to good news on Friday!! |

I also want to reiterate/brag on my wife's cholesterol. She has had high levels as and adult and been told to treat it with diet and exercise or else! I guess that means a threat of medication, but she took it seriously. She has done a pretty good job, but last year she was at 213. This year after being on WL4I for eight months, it is 166! She is so excited! I am certain that her 35lbs loss helps and we don't ever pick scrambled eggs or egg salad since fat free mayo is horrible, but still, this is a strong endorsement! Dobie |

I may sound a bit defeatist today, but truly this metabolism-shake-up-diet is the only thing that has moved the scale and sort of flattened my stomach for about 9 years. I am sorry you are having a rough go. I am glad it is working some, but I know that is frustrating for you. Can I suggest, if you are not, that you go strict for a cycle? Pick filling foods (even though not your favorites) and watch the quantity. We did cottage cheese and tuna instead of ham and chicken (and we miss the meat). We eat less as it is kind of ho-hum. Fish would do that to me too. Get the water in and set a 14 day goal for 27 walks. I'll let you miss one. ;) On the cheat days, pick healthy foods that have some overlap on the diet like fruit and veggies. Have your favorite salad with dressing (in reason). Don't think of it as cheating but rather open food choices. Just for one cyle, give it your all! Try it full throttle and see if your tummy and scale move. If so, then you know what it takes at the worst. If not...walk to Texas and we can discuss how you feel then. :D Best of luck! Last edited on 27 April 2006 08:36 pm by Dobie |

Dobie and Shamrock, I am in the same boat!! I set the initial goal, and now I am not sure what my goal is. I just met my goal this week but I still need to lose a few more pounds to get rid of the rolls that are not so attractive on Women!! My tummy is the real problem. I know sit-ups and crunches won't get rid of the fat so I need to lose it. My plan is to add a bit more toning exercises to this next stage and see how that goes. I am excited to try the 10 day rotation and see how that goes. Wish me luck. Jayelle Last edited on 27 April 2006 10:04 pm by Jayelle |

Okay, now I'm a little nervous about my weigh in tomorrow. Last night I went to a reception with my husband -- did great...didn't even have a glass of wine! Afterwards my husband asked me if I wanted to go to dinner. Long story short, we went to an Italian place (my weakness). All I had left on my menu for the day was chicken but I indulged in a little antipasto and warm bread (not nearly what I would usually eat but....) I did order chicken cacciatore and asked for vegetables on the side instead of the pasta. I couldn't finish dinner (had chicken left and most of the vegetables which I brought for lunch today) but being so close to my weigh hin was I was doing so well.... Moving on.... Dobie, I'm very glad that you weren't put off by the name on this forum -- you always have good insight and inspiration. Jayelle, I know you're far from "Middle Agish" but am so happy that you found us here and share your thoughts with us. Cowgirl, one of the reasons I love this forum is that people who live in different parts of the world and live such different lives share a common bond and encourage others or give advice. Your posts make me laugh -- you must be an Irma Bombeck-type writer -- you have a good sense of humor. Regarding the "goal" weight issue, I've come to the conclusion that I'm constantly going to be a work in progress. I don't plan to be manic, obsessive, or put unrealistic expectations on myself. I'm going to continue to eat properly (most of the time), exercise, and hope that gravity gets bored with me and picks on someone else! |

Well, I lost the 6lbs. I gained and am now back to 27lbs. down. I'm taking this as a good sign...that my body has adjusted to HRT and if I "buckle down" I can still lose weight. I'm going to enjoy my weekend and generate a new menu for Monday. If I could lose 4 more pounds, I will break another barrier -- which I haven't seen since before I got pregnant with my oldest son 20 years ago!!!! |

Well, the blob feels much better today. Still at 140#, I can at least fit into my jeans, albeit not totally comfortable. I am skipping the 3rd cheat day and starting a new cycle tomorrow (I have another family event next Saturday and have bribed myself with a new outfit....we shall see....) It rained all day here and is cold. I started a fire in the woodstove and made it more than cozy! I'm reading the new Diane Mott Davidson book so am quite content. Two glasses of wine and a movie date with husbando helped too. Onward to some poundage removal this week (I sincerely hope). |

Hi Dobie ~ Yep, I'm still around. Family arrived a day early and stayed a day later. I didn't watch a thing while they were here. We ate BBQ ribs, drank beer, ate snacks and on one particularly nice day, we sat out on the deck and drank the orange-pineapple smoothies from the FLFI diet - but we added rum!! I gained only 1 pound in the five days!! They left on Friday and I started the ADS diet yesterday (Wednesday). When I weighed at the start of ADS yesteday, I had already dropped that pound and today, I'm down 2 more! I think the FLFI diet was actually too much food for me. I have never been an over-eater, my problem has always been fried foods and snack foods. I often found myself having to eat when I wasn't hungry on FLFI. I followed FLFI to the letter including the water & exercise and in 2 cycles (1 month) only lost one pound. I guess since I have begun the ADS diet, I will be posting in that forum now. Good luck to all - FLFI seems to work for you. |

Good job fwalter! I sometimes feel that there is too much on FLFI also..and I am trying to really watch my portions. I am not losing much this cycle, but I did break into the 130s! YAY! 139 counts, right?:D I still have trouble fitting in the daily walks. I get about 3/week, but I'm at least outside quite a bit of the time climbing gates and on and off the skid loader - still alive and moving! I better go check the "girls"...they have some calves to drop yet... The mosquitos are terrible here this year....yuck! |

Hi! Fwalter, I'm so happy you found something that works for you and fits your lifestyle. Cowgirl, congrats on breaking into a new "decade." At last weigh in, I have 4 lbs. to go to break into a new one myself -- I think these are the hardest to lose. I'm on Day 5 and have been doing pretty well so, here's hopin'.... |

Okay, this 11 days was a total loss...NOT...I've been semi sticking to it, but have cheated an awful lot...I'm not sure what's up with me. Anyway, my son is coming home from school today with his new girfriend for the weekend so I'm sure we'll be cooking out a lot and then, of course, there's Mother's Day, when all my boys (including my husband) spoil me...I can't wait! Hope you guys are doing better than me! |

Shamrock, I'm there with ya....bad girl. I haven't weighed in since the magic 139# because I'm afraid to!! I just have to take a break from the diet for a few days. I'm psyching up to go back on though. I am determined to lose 9 more. Let's kick it into gear after Mother's Day. We are visiting sister-in-laws and their families and I know they are planning a cook-out. I haven't been pigging out, just doing my usual nibbling and grazing. take care... |

Hey there ladies! This past two weeks have a been let's just say a bit off for me too. I started on the rotation plan, freaked out and switched back on Friday and have been following the menu since then. I had a slight gain before switching so who knows what the scales will say on Fri. I am just hoping there not another gain. So I am with you ladies about kicking it up after Mother's day. I am not a mom and I won't see mine this year As you ladies know I met my original goal but my goals have changed so there are still about 8 pounds I'd like to get rid of and a few inches (3-4 or so) of belly fat. I am hoping to be comfortable in a swim-suit by the 4th of July. It will be the first time in 3 years that I've worn one. Jayelle |

All right -- today is Day 1. I decided to stick with the old plan for this cycle and try not to substitute much. I have eaten so many wrong things lately and especially this weekend, I'm not even going to try to justify it -- I am actually happy to be starting back with some structure. I did weigh myself this morning which I normally don't do, but I've been "cheating" so much lately, I wanted to see how bad off I was. I play head games with myself and had a weight in mind that I thought I was, got on the scale and wasn't quite as much as I thought. I still did gain 4 lbs (not just this weekend, but over the past couple of weeks). That's okay, now I know where I am and where I want to be. The good news is, my boys got me an outfit for Mother's Day and it fit perfectly. I usually dread the "try on" for a couple of reasons, 1) I hate the fact that it won't fit and, 2) I like the boys to see the results of their shopping and hate to put it on if it doesn't look right. Hope you all have continued success. |

Hey Shamrock. I am just checking in. I am right there with you on our pact. Plan to stick to the diet to the letter for the next 11 days and enjoy my next well deserved cheat period. I may exend the cyle a day (repeat a light day or something) so that my cheats are Sat-Mon to include Memorial day. Wel, good luck to you. Jayelle |

Jayelle, Good idea on Memorial day. I am off cycle from that so I am not sure what I will do. Cheat this weekend (as scheduled) and then start the old plan, but since I head back to India (again :?) on May 31st, I won't finish the cycle. Plus with Memorial Day, I know it will be tough. I think I may have to practice what I preach. Try and stay on when I can, deviate when I have to, keep my water and exercise, don't over eat EVER (this is a big problem for me off the diet), and just relax. |

I like the idea of adding a day and having the extra Memorial Day weekend day off -- you just KNOW there are going to be barbeques. Thanks Dobie for the kind words -- I think you're right -- in the scheme of things, it's how you feel and how clothes fit rather than what the scale says. I also agree with you that when we slip (and we all do) just getting back to it makes more sense than waiting until a Monday or some other future date to begin again -- especially if this is going to be a lifestyle change -- you have to make it "fit" to real life and real life is more than a "delicious egg omelet!" |

Okay, yesterday was my fruit/veggie day -- do chocolate covered raisins count as fruit???? I don't know what's going on -- I can't seem to stick to it like I used to. I seem to do well on three out of the four meals and then BOOM -- if I want something, that's that. I'd still like to lose more weight (about 10, I think) but I'm having trouble sticking with it. I am following the advice that if you fall off, get right back on, so I had my cottage cheese this morning and, hopefully, will do better today... |

Shamrock, I feel you on this. It is tough this time. I've been snackish every evening. I don't know what it is either. Finally I had some banana chips last night. I need to lose a few more pounds to. I am trying to get to my ideal body weight. So as of this morning I still have 7 pounds to go. I think for me it is that I want to eat some other foods. I've been following since the beginning of Feb and I am starting to really be kind BLAH about some of the foods. I am sure that's why I am wanting to snack. I am physicaly satisfied but my tastebuds aren't. I am ready to try to go it alone but I really want to make my ideal body weight first. I was hoping to hit it by the end of the month but that's not going to happen.. I am really trying t be strong. I am not looking forward to Sun, that's my F/V day. I am going to come up with something full of flavor that's for sure. Hang in there, we can do it together. Jayelle |

Hey Jayelle -- I agree, I think part of the problem is that I'm bored. I've been doing this plan off and on since November and sometimes I just want to eat what I want when I want it! Anyway, as far as fruit and veggie day -- I bought a tub of jalapeno hummus and some veggie chips at Costco and had them for one of my meals -- it felt like a total cheat but it was good, filling, and DIFFERENT! |

SHAMROCK!!! Don't slide. You are so close! Here is my saga of yesterday and today: i have to get a blood test this morning that requires fasting. So I had nothing from 5pm yesterday until an hour from now (11am). If my weak-willed self can do this, so can you!! Get out some skinny clothes and try them on and remember when you couldn't get them on at all!! Remember, you can eat bigger amounts of the choices if you feel you are out of control....it's better to be slightly fuller than they recomment than to say, "to heck with it" and pull out the chips and Snickers. I find that after day 5 is REALLY hard for me. I expect some support from this group so you better not let me down!! |

Thanks for the support and encouragement! I'm not planning on chucking the plan -- I'm just finding it harder and harder. In the beginning it felt like the weight was falling off! My metabolism which seemed to be MIA for so long had finally kicked in, I never really felt hungry, and sticking to the menu was easier than I thought. Now, I have to really work at it...which I will do. There's still one item in my closet that, although I can get into, I wouldn't go out in it! I think my saving grace is that even on the days when I eat something I shouldn't, I have been pretty diligent about the exercise and water. Thanks again for helping to keep me on track... |

Hey Ladies!! Its almost weigh in day for this cycle. How have you all done. Me not super, but I did okay diet wise. I wasn't as strict as I could have been but more often than not I've been good. I know we had that pact so I am just checking back in. I was back at 152 last Friday. I think I may be stuck there. I am going to try to bust through that in the next few weeks. I am adding an extra day this time so I won't do the official weigh in until Sat morning. I don't expect to see any new losses but I'll be happy with whatever it says. I am going to enjoy my 3 days, holiday included and embark on the next step of my journey on Tuesday morning. I will not be following IPD so to speak but I will be applying the principles of IPD. So its kind of motified specfically for me version. Of coarse those things that I will be keeping are eating until satisfied, water, small meals every few hours (I will have 3 meals, 2 snacks) and I will also mix in some rotating of proteins/carbs. So with these last 7-8 pounds I want to lose, I am hoping to transition into a way of eating that can just as easily be tweaked for maintenance. I am okay with losing at a slower rate. I've read many tales of the last 10 pounds being the hardest to lose so I am optimistically pacing myself. I will also be adding more toning oriented exercises in addition to the walking. Okay, I'm sorry for the long post. I've gone on long enough. Good luck on your weigh ins. Jayelle |

Okay, good news/bad news. The bad news is that I didn't lose anything (possibly 1/2 lb. but I don't count that) but that is what I expected because I did horrible. The good news is, I think I now know how to maintain. I followed the plan "liberally" but splurged on things when I felt like it. Since I've been in kind of a funk and not really into following the plan totally what I think I'll do is just try to maintain and not gain anything until I feel I can really stick with it to lose more. I'm still happy with the weight I've lost. As I said, I could definitely stand to lose 10 more but I think I need a break. I plan on continuing to walk, drink the water, eat 4 meals a day but will eat more normally (fruits, veggies, etc.). I still plan on limiting bread, rice and other high carb items, but have a dinner roll occasionally if I feel like it. All that being said, I will weigh myself every couple of days to make sure I don't go over the weight I am right now. If that happens, I'll probably start the 11-day process until I drop back. Hopefully, this will work for me until I get my "mojo" back so I can lose the last few pounds. Hope you all are doing well. |

I am pretty much in the same boat....didn't do extremely well, cheated quite a bit and as usual am struggling with the walking. Galloping a horse for two miles and lugging heavy gates around for an hour must count for a little!. I did not gain any (!) which is good, but I am not giving up. I really want to lose 9 more pounds. I am not pigging out this Memorial Day weekend, even though I won't be strictly following the plan, but like Shamrock I will continue with the "basic outline". I think on the 30th I will religiously begin again. The hardest part for me is when the weekend arrives. Too bad this isn't a 5 or 6 day program! |

Shamrock & Cowgirl, the three of us seem to all be in the same boat these days. All with 10 lbs or less to go and all seeming to have lost our mojo. I had a couple of slip ups but did okay. I weighed this morning anyway and I'm @ 151. I'm sure tomorrow won't be different. I don't know what that means I lost overall, but just one pound since last week, So I have 6-7 (depending on the day) to go to reach my ideal. I am sure we can all do it. Maybe the two of you can try a new routine of implementing 3 new low fat recipes a week. (1 of each Breakfast, lunch and dinner)There are some great ones out there that allow you to eat well and not blow your efforts. That is what my new plan is going to consist of. New healthier receipes and a bit more food selections. Good Luck ladies and keep checking in. Jayelle Last edited on 26 May 2006 06:22 pm by Jayelle |

Here's to good luck to all of us! I'm hoping I'll get really motivated again -- I'm not even going to put a date on it -- when it happens, it happens. As you must know, you need to really feel it to stay with it. The way I figure it, I'll need one cycle to get back to my lowest weight while on this plan (4 lbs.) and another cyle or two to get to what I think I want to weigh (won't know for sure until I see it!). I'll check back to see how you're doing. Have a great Memorial Day weekend!! |

Hi All! Just checkin' in. I haven't been following the plan, just following my gut (no pun intended) until I feel I can really stick to it. Luckily, I haven't gained anything although I've yo-yo'd a bit -- up a few, down a few -- but never over (which I consider pretty good). I've printed out a new menu that looks doable -- I'm going on vacation at the end of July and I'd like to lose a few more before I go. Hope you are all doing well. |

Well, Shamrock good goin'! I feel pretty good about the whole diet situation. My husband said last week, "How did you lose so much weight?" (And he never notices stuff like that!) I definitely feel like I can wear about anything in my closet without feeling like a stuffed sausage. I haven't checked the scale, but might after this coming weekend. I haven't followed the diet faithfully, but when I do go off it I tend to not eat lots of carbs, so maybe that is shaking my metabolism up. Anyway, I believe things are looking good! It sounds like you are holding your own and probably losing too! |

Hi. I'm on day three and I've been really nauseous, queasy and achy. I remember the same feelings when I originally started on Atkins. I think it's due to withdrawl from sugar, processed and refined carbs and all the other bad stuff that was a staple of my pre-FL4I diet. Does this sound right? Did anyone else feel the same way when starting this diet? Last edited on 8 June 2006 02:44 am by wordsnrhymes |

I have been able to eat my food. And actually I woke up this morning (after being too queasy to stay awake and going to bed at 7:30pm) feeling much better! I think the withdrawl has passed. I feel so energetic and clear. Hooray! I don't have a scale and I'm starting day 4 but my clothes are all looser and my stomach flatter. Someone at work asked me if I've lost weight because they can see the bone structure in my face. I'm feeling really good. Thank you all for your encouragement and your posts on the board—they've been very inspirational! |

Yeehaa cowgirl -- sounds like thinks are kickin' in for you! Okay, since this is the forum, I have a middle-agish woman question. I don't know if you've ever seen the two woman from London who have a show "What not to wear" -- they're hilarious! Anyway, they said that you should never wear jeans that come up to your waist because it makes your butt look huge. You should wear lower jeans and then a thick belt which gives the illusion of a smaller butt. I've tried different brands of jeans and they're either the dreaded big mama look or they're too low and the inevitable stomach bulge feels like I'm spilling over (a lovely image, I know). Has anyone out there found the perfect jeans? |

Ha, what lovely visuals you describe! For about a million years I have only worn men's Levis 550s. They ride a little lower than the waist and tend to make my hippo hips look less. I know this is probably weird, but hey........ |

Not weird cowgirl, I've just bought a pair of "boyfriend" jeans. It's meant to look like you're wearing you boyfriend's jeans (although I probably wouldn't get 1 leg in my boyfriend's actual jeans). They're the lated trend in London and are taking over from skinny jeans which I am very glad about because there is no chance you'd see my thunder thighs in a pair of those! Anyway, I haven't taken them off since, they are so flattering and comfortable. They sit low on the waist and are full in the leg so they skim over all the lumps and bumps. Good thing is they're still designed for women so can accommodate a more womanly figure, my butt is far bigger than any man's I've ever seen! Not sure where you are but I bought them in Topshop in London. Gap do them but I found they weren't cut right to fit me there. Colthes in Gap rarely are to be honest. Hope that helps Shamrock. Trinny and Susannah would be proud! |

Thanks ladies for the info -- I'll try the Gap first -- there is one down the street from where I work. RoxieP, I agree with you that sometimes Gap stuff is a little snug when I try on my size (or maybe its the size I THINK I am). If that doesn't work I'll try your idea Cowgirl. I never thought of buying men's because of the "curvage" factor -- I'll probably have to buy a huge waist size for it to fit me properly in the hip area, but I'll give it a shot and see what happens. Nice to know we're on the cutting edge of fashion in this forum! |

"Boyfriend Jeans" sound good!! If you can't find them, I agree with cowgirl - I wear Levi 501. I think the only difference between 501 & 505 is 501 has the button fly and 505 have the zipper fly. Levi has so many different cuts! BUT if you do go for Levis, make sure you get pre-washed because the non-prewashed shrink a LOT at first washing, especially in length. |
|||||||
|
shamrock Senior Member
|
That's good to know because I'm tall and I definitely need length. Can you give me a "ballpark" size to start looking. In women's, I wear a 12 -- what would that relate to in Men's? |
|||||||
|
RoxieP New Member
|
Well, I wouldn't say Gap clothes are too small, whatever size I try they don't fit. They're just the wrong shape. A lot of clothes are with me - too big round the waist and too tight around the bum! They seem to make clothes for girls with no curves nowadays - straight up and down! |
|||||||
|
fwalter New Member
|
As far as length, when I buy prewashed, I get a 30 or 31 length but non prewashed I get 34. I think a 12 would equate to about a 30 waist in prewashed and maybe 32 in non prewashed. The great thing about Levi is that you pick your exact waist & length so they fit perfectly! Just try them on and you'll find your size! |

Thanks! I forgot to ask, how are things going with your new plan? I'm on kind of a hiatus from WL4I and doing my own thing -- luckily I've been maintaining and haven't gained back the 25ish that I lost. I do plan on picking up again soon. HRT is still going well -- no flashes and sleeping better -- it makes a world of difference. |

Thanks for asking. I am so pleased with ADS. I lost 6 pounds the first time around and only completed the first 5 days of the 8. Took 2 weeks off when family came and only gained 2 back. I'm on day 6 today and am down 6. I feel great - lots of fruit, which I love. I think this diet really kicked my metabolism into gear because the 2 weeks I took off, I ate lots of bad stuff and drank beer and didn't see a big gain. |

That's GREAT!! Bottom line, as long as we eat well, exercise and feel good, we're doing okay!! Keep it up! Getting my metabolism working again was the key to my losing as well. WLFI seemed to do that for me and although I'm not on the plan right now, I'm still using the general outline/method which seems to be working for me. |

Yeah, I think that's the thing - finding a way to eat that works for you so that you're not yo-yo dieting. The last time I needed to lose weight, I just watched fats (they're my downfall) and I lost a lot of weight and kept if off for 5 years. With the onset of menopause, the weight crept back up despite my efforts, so here I am again. What I'm finding with this new diet, is that it really restricts starch and that seems to be what my body is reacting to now. I still get some bread - toast with peanut butter (yum) but no pasta, rice, potatoes, etc. Stuff I thought I couldn't live without, I find I'm not really missing. It's definitely a sensible way of eating that I can live with! Last edited on 9 June 2006 09:37 pm by fwalter |

Hi All! Well, I bought a pair of Levis 505 -- I love them!!! It's been too hot to wear them, but I'm looking forward to a cool evening... I've decided that I've screwed off enough and am going to start up again. I'm going on vacation at the end of July and would like to drop a few lbs. I actually put on a bathing suit yesterday and realized again how little you can hide!! So I put on my glasses, a big hat, sat in the shade (except for when I was neck deep in water) and tried to avoid harpoons!! I've been going to physical therapy for hip pain (this has been ongoing since January) as a last resort. I've been on anti-inflammatory medicine, had cortisone injections, and now the therapy. I'm on week three and have not felt much improvement. It turns out that in addition to my hip, the tendon that runs from my hip to my knee is also inflamed. The therapist said that I probably should switch up my exercise from walking (which I do at least 5 times a week) to biking or swimming. I'll have to pull out my bike (if the tires haven't disintegrated) and give it a try. In addition to all this, I think I may have to get my HRT adjusted. I haven't been sleeping again, but I'm not sure if it's my hip or mini flashes that have started to recur... Boy, after reading what I just wrote, I sound like an old, whiney woman who's falling apart! Hope you all are doing better than me! |

Hi again everyone! I'm back to the cycle again after taking time off...still about 135# and feel good. I want to get to 130# or a few pounds below (family wedding coming up in September). As I posted to Sammi in another thread, this morning I donned a pair of 29" jeans that I hadn't worn in 4 years! What a great feeling for an old lady of 50! Here in the midwest the heat has been pretty high - as all over the country I know! Today is overcast and cool...after computer work today I'm heading out for a 2-mile walk. having a cuppa green tea..... |

Hey Cowgirl -- long time no "talk!" It sounds as if you're doing great!! Size "29" is unbelievable to me -- that may be a thigh for me -- I'm not sure. I've been holding my own since I stopped doing the cycles back in the Spring but I got on the scale this morning and have reached the weight I said that I would not go over again "ever" so I have started a cycle this morning. I've still kept off 21 lbs of the 27 that I lost starting last November so I'm happy -- just need to drop that last 10-15 to make me extremely happy! Keep up whatever you're doing!!! |

Okay, I'm on Day 2 and I'm feeling like I did when I first did this back in November -- like my metabolism is kicking in. I had fruit salad for breakfast and my stomach is growling like crazy. This might sound stupid, but when my stomach growls, I feel like I'm beginning to lose weight... I definitely need to get back into my walking routine -- the hip still hurts but have decided that it's just something that I have to live with (was told by one that it was arthritis and by another that it's just a muscle that needs to heal). Either way, I plan on walking this evening and see what happens. |

Day 5 and doing okay -- probably following the plan 90%... Walked with a neighbor yesterday (it really helps to have someone to go with -- especially one who is tall like me -- we have about the same stride). Didn't sleep so hot last night, I'm hoping that is only temporary because we all know the link between sleep and losing weight... The weekend could be a bit of a challenge -- a few social things going on, but I'll try to stick to the plan as much as possible and hope for the best. Hope everyone has a good weekend and does well! |

Shamrock, You are doing fine! I didn't do so great....went off the plan for the last few days. I do fine until about 7pm, then I want to have a beer or a glass of wine, or else the nachos or potato chips that others might be muching on look so good and "a few won't hurt"...yeah right. So don't be too hard on yourself. I am still taking the 11-day schedule as the gospel, so tomorrow I start Day 1 again. I do great for 5 days, then it gets difficult for me. I do have the incentive that this does work! And I have a family wedding to psych up for at the end of September. It's rainy here so I'll try to unearth the treadmill later and walk. I have the 8# weights to use too...a while back I purchased Prevention Magazine's "Fat to Firm" tape that is pretty good so I want to try that in conjunction with the Fat 4 Dummies diet. I'll let you know......... |

Hi Cowgirl! Went off some over the weekend -- not disastrous -- weighed in this morning and down three -- not bad. Sounds like you're doing terrific -- you're gonna' look great at your family thing... |

Hi! Haven't been around in a while. I'm back in the "psyched" mode. Just had a HRT adjustment and am ready to do this! (before I guess I really wasn't into it...). I'm determined to lose a few pounds BEFORE the holiday season starts. I definitely don't want to go into Thanksgiving and Christmas with extra weight! |

I am so glad to see some posts...sometimes it seems like this forum is very quiet! I am on Day 3 of the new diet. So far, it's going OK. I didn't weigh myself before starting this cycle, because I went so crazy at the end of the last one that I thought it would just be depressing. I weighed myself this morning, and I am unfortunately up 1+ lbs from before I started the first cycle (of the old diet). This is FL4I's last chance for me; if I end up going crazy again, or don't lose weight, I'll know that, for whatever reason, this is not the WOE for me. |

How many cycles have you done? When I first started (last November) I lost a chunk of weight and then things started to even out. Bottom line, the scale was going in the right direction so, even though the weight wasn't melting off, it was still coming off. Here I am almost a year later and although I've put a few of the 27 lbs. I've lost back on again, this plan seemed to revive my metabolism which gives me hope to lose the weight that I re-gained and lose more on top of that! |

Hi Shamrock and Frankie, I have to agree with Shamrock: this seems to work for me IF I STICK WITH IT!! I haven't dieted for about 3 weeks and now am on Day 4. Things are going great. Frankie, I too didn't weigh in before because I didn't want to be depressed about numbers. I'm still less than my original weight when I discovered this diet in March 2006. I'll weigh in at the end of this cycle and report in! My hardest time is from Day 7-11. Aargh. The weather is changing here in the Midwest today. It is going to freeze tonight...much work to get done before sundown! hang in there everyone!!! |

Hi Cowgirl and Shamrock, This is only my 2nd cycle. I was doing ok on the first one; lost about 4 lbs. But then, on the 10th day, I just lost control and totally pigged out. So I started my 3 cheat days early, then started another cycle. During the cheat/binge days, I seem to have gained back almost 5 lbs, possibly more, since I didn't weigh myself until after 2 days on this new cycle. I had problems on the first cycle because I felt hungry all the time, plus I'm sure I ate too many nuts and didn't drink enough water. So this time, I didn't select nuts and I'm trying harder to drink the water (I just don't enjoy drinking water, plus I'm always afraid I'll get stuck in the car with nowhere to pee!). I thought the old version might work better for me because there's more portion control. For example, if you make and eat a sandwich, that's it! You can't just keep on eating the sandwich. My first cycle, I'd just keep on eating lunchmeat. Also the bread in the sandwiches seems to help me not feel so hungry. I am not totally sure I'm even going to finish this whole cycle. I feel I've been sticking fairly stringently to the diet, so if after another day or so, the scale isn't budging, I'll try something else. I REALLY want to lose weight and I feel motivated, but I just need to find something I can live with. Too much deprivation is not going to work for me. Keep me posted on your progress! Frankie |

Hey Cowgirl! Nice to hear from you! Frankie, don't get discouraged. First, it's not likely like you gained 5lbs. of "real" weight -- maybe you had a lot of salt and are retaining water or something like that. That type of weight usually comes off quickly. Secondly, I find that the weight comes off in 3 or 4 day chunks. For example, I started Day 1 today, but even if I stick diligently to the plan, I probably won't see the scale move for about 4-5 days. A big part of this plan is drinking the water -- if you don't like plain water, add lemon or that Crystal Light stuff they've been advertising lately. Are you walking? Last but not least, if you don't have that much weight to lose, it probably will come off slower but that's okay, the key is to keep the momentum going in the right direction! You shouldn't feel that hungry while on this plan. Maybe you have to up your portions a bit. I like the "old" plan better than the new one and on the old plan there are certain things you can have at every meal -- like salsa. What is salsa but tomatoes, onions and peppers. The way I look at it, if the plan says for me to have "chicken" I'll have it with a salad or veggies -- that way it's more of a "complete" meal and fills me up. Also, something I keep on hand which helps me stay on track is sugar-free jello. If you have a bowl of that with a dollop of cool whip, it really takes the edge off and makes you feel like you're cheating even though the jello and whipped cream combined is only about 30 calories! |

This morning, the morning of Day 4, I was down 1 lb. I drank plenty of water yesterday. I am having better success with the new diet (in terms of not feeling hungry); the only day I'm worried about is the fruit and veggie day. I found that to be extremely difficult for the last cycle. However, last time, I had only raw veggies; this time, I'll have them only cooked, which I think is more satisfying. Thanks for your suggestions, Cowgirl. Frankie |

Hi Shamrock Guessing there might be some Irish connection there!! I'm on day 3 now and still not feeling like a mad binge - the fruit day was tough as I had my sandwich in the middle of the day and had to eat a big bowl of fruit when the family were eating 'proper' food last night. Drinking the water is not a problem for me as I don't really like tea or coffee and tend to drink all through the day anyway. The exercise is a bit more of a chore - will really have to discipline myself. Barry (on a different thread) says you need to be disciplined and of course that is something we all know. All diets work if you really stick rigidly to the plan but the loss can be painstakingly slow - that's when I tend to give up and binge eat. How come it can take 3 weeks to lose 4lbs on a calorie controlled diet and one night of sweets/chocs/pringles to put them all on again? It is soul destroying. I am hoping this WLP will show results much quicker which I hope, in turn, will keep me motivated and determined to succeed. I have around 70lb to lose and would love to have this off by next spring - I know it won't be easy but I have a huge roll of fat around my middle that is so unhealthy and I think that my health is now starting to concern me - not just my non-existent figure. I find this board very therapeutic - knowing there are others out there trying the same program and facing the same problems, obstacles etc is helpful. I work online most of the day and keep checking in for posts from time to time - I wish there were more current posts, even if it is just someone waffling on (like me!) Will post again soon. |

Hi Flutterby (your name reminds me of people saying fam damily!) I hope you have success on this plan. I started about a year ago (last November) when I thought I had about 30lbs to lose (now I think it's more like 35-40). Between November and April I lost 27lbs (lost a lot the first cycle, a little less the next cycle, etc. -- which is to be expected) and with really "enjoying" the holidays midway. Anyway, I lost my mojo somewhere in there and strayed....I had an upper weight in my mind which I swore I would never go over. Well, I got to that weight and started back on this plan again last week. Today I'm on day 8 and have done pretty well with the plan, have been drinking the water, but haven't been great in the exercise department. I'll weigh myself over the weekend and see the results. I only gained about 6 lbs. but I want to get that plus some off before this holiday season kicks in. I'll keep you posted on my results. |

Allergy question Hello all. I'm new and have been reading one of your Fat Loss 4 Dummies threads. I have some concerns about the food items that I've been seeing throughout the posts. I am allergic to poultry, eggs and most fish. Is this diet doable with those restrictions? I get protine from dairy, beans, pork and beef mostly. I was going to purchase this diet, but I don't want to spend thirty dollars only to download an egg and poultry menu. If anyone has any information about this menu could you please let me know whether or not it is doable for me? Thanks! |

Regardless - Hello and welcome! These are my thoughts... You can pick only the items that are dairy, like milk, cheese, cottage cheese, frozen yogurt and then you could have roast beef, bacon, sausage (beef or pork), pastrami, ham, nuts, beans, fruits and veggies and that should give you some decent choices for menus. You won't have as much variety, maybe, but it is still worth it. If you come to the general discussion forum you can get some more ideas for your meals. Please check your PM also. Btw, I used to live in Golden Colorado (twice, actually). I love it there. |

Hello, I am planing on going on this diet as i see lots of people taking it up with great results. Still, i am a little skeptical about paying for this until i can be totally certain i can commit to it. see, the problem is that i have an reflux esophagitis and gastritis and most diets i tried i had to stop after a couple of days due to stomach pain and acid. So, before i spend money on this diet i want to know if this is something i can actually stick to. First off i would like to ask if anybody with stomach and acid problems tried this? Is there any way i could go through the fruit and vegetable days with my problems? Second of all, somebody that already has access to the diet plan generator, do you think you could help me with a sample of a week's or so plan, so i can try and see if i can take it? Please, if anybody can help me with this i would be really grateful since i have at least 15 pounds to lose until my wedding day and i can't seem to succeed no matter what! MeC...come over to the fl4i discussion....that is where we talk about these issues...and yes, many have overcome reflux after a few cycles on this plan and have been able to go off their meds. Overeating, overfilling the stomach and fried/fatty eating are big contributors to starting a vicious reflux cycle that then occurs at most meals....this way of eating can help the body heal. It may take afew cycles to get there, but many are very happy with the reduction or end of reflux problems. Most reflux suffers are very skeptical and afraid but they have been happy with this plan. The diet allows you to choose your proteins and carbs(fruits, veggies, oatmeal, beans, frozen yogurt and smoothies) so you can start with things that you handle well...for protein there is cheese, eggs, milk, beef, turkey, chicken, ham, bacon, sausage and fish(and vegetarian protein choices as well). Also some have tried using organic apple cider vinegar in water to help reflux...so ask about that too. SS Last edited on 20 January 2009 05:33 pm by sunshine |

I know about the fried and fat stuff, and indeed i avoid them as possible. But my concern is more about fresh fruits and vegetables that i do not seem to tolerate well. Anyway, I thought since this thread deals with health issues this is where i was supposed to post. Thank you, sunshine, for the heads up. I will post in the general discussion topic. Hi there, I would like to know if I can continue with this diet while being pregnant. I want to keep my weight and not gain too much (as I normally do...). Let me know your thoughts please. Esther |

Hi Esther. This really is a question for your obstetrician. We don't know your health history or anything, and when you have a child growing inside you, there are needs that must be met that this diet may fall short on. Please ask your doctor first and see what he/she thinks. That is really the best advice I can give. Congratulations on your pregnancy! |
