Hi,

I think it would make this trip more fun if I did it with a diet buddy.  I need someone who's doing the Loss 4 Idiots Diet.  I used to be on Nutrisystem and know a little bit about that plan, so I would be able to help someone doing that as well.

Let me know if you're interested.

Hi Blackcal...

I have previously done nutrisystem and have just started the FL4I diet.  Have you started FL4I yet?  What do you think of it compared to Nutrisystem?

How much weight are you looking to lose?

Hi Browneyedgirl,

Yes, I've started the Idiot Diet.  I'll be on Day 6 tomorrow.

It's so different from Nutrisystem!

I did well on NS for awhile.  Then, I hit a plateau, and my weight loss stopped.  I did lose over 20 pounds before the plateau hit.  Currently, I have an unopened box of NS food sitting on my back porch.  I'll eat that stuff eventually.  Technically, I still have an account with NS.  I will be putting a delay on my next shipment since I don't want to receive another box.

I have  lot to lose, about 75 pounds.  I'm not sure what my correct target weight should be.  My goal is to weigh 135 pounds before the end of the year.

In contrasting the two diets, I'll just say that, so far, I prefer the Idiot Diet.  Much better food.  The Nutrisystem meals, while generally OK, can leave you hungry, in my opinion.  I'm not nearly as hungry with WL4I.  The NS breakfasts, in particular, left me particularly dissatisfied.  Their cereals are a particular ripoff and are actually high in calories.  If I lose a decent amount of weight doing WL4I, I will discontinue NS in the near future.

Congrats on your weight loss with Nutrisystem.  I somewhat liked the diet, but now that they have this "advanced" nutrisystem, they have taken off the foods that I really enjoy.  I just put my next shipment on delay and I still have quite a few meals left myself.  I could normally get through breakfast, but lunch is what really left me dissatisfied.  And I was so tired of salads too.

I was on nutrisystem for about a month and lost 7 lbs.  I mean, I liked the diet, but it also has so much sodium.  The thing I like so far about FL4I is that you can eat real food.  I am starting day 3 today.  I must admit that the fruit day (yesterday) sucked so bad, but todays a new day, and I can eat real food.

I'm looking to lose about 30 lbs.  I also want to be back to around 135 by summer.  I currently weight 163.  I'm very athletic and I don't feel like I look 163, but the fact is, I DO!  So I desperatly want to get this weight off once and for all and get back to what I was used to weighing!

Best of luck with FL4I and keep me posted with how it goes.  If you'd like to develop a buddy system, I'd be glad to do so.

Hi Browneyedgirl,

I have decided to cancel my pending Nutrisystem order tomorrow.  I have to call them up because they have no way of automatically cancelling an order.

I'm glad you told me about their Advanced foods.  They probably discontinued my favorites, too.

I suspect they drop the entrees that cost the most for them to ship out and try to keep the ones that aren't so expensive for them to maintain.  I have no evidence to support this, but that's my theory.

I'd love to be a diet buddy with you.  In the future, I think we need to post to the Work Together On-Line forum instead of this one.

I'm a little bit ahead of you with the Idiot diet, so maybe I can give you a couple of tips as I learn more about it.

Cheers,

Blackcal

Yes, I think you're right about the cost of maintaining certain foods.  My absolute favorite breakfast was the chocolate chip pancakes...no more!  They also discontinued the vegetarian sloppy joe, which was also amazing.

Anyway, yeah, lets post on the other forum from now on.

Okay, so we have our own official forum!  I guess we should start with our current status and our long term goals.

I'm currently at 163, hoping to get down to about 135.  I have always been in shape most of my life, but every day life has caught up to me and over the past 3 years or so, I have upt on about 30 lbs.   I don't look "fat" by any means, BUT I definitely feel uncomforatable in my clothes, and I definitely would feel better with this excess weight off.

I have a habit of yo-yo dieting, always losing and gaining back the same 10 lbs.  This time, I'm ready to take it all off, plus some, and keep it that way.

Blackcal and I decided to become diet buddies because we both have done Nutrisystem, and have now switched to FL4I.  I officially started on Sunday, and I'm currently on day 3.  I feel good, although fruit day was a struggle.

Since I have started the FL4I diet, I have also bumped up my workouts.  I take an aerobics class 4-5 times a week, and I also add a few cardio sessions at the gym.

Hi again browneyedgirl,

I’m not sure what I am right now.  Probably around 225, want to get to 135.  I’m sure I’ve gained a few pounds over the holidays.

My pants are already fitting better.  They’re not exactly loose, but they aren’t tight, either.  This is a direct result of the WL4I diet.

Fruit day is sort of bad, but I think vegetable day is worse.  I made a soup out of an onion soup base, added permitted vegetables and pinto beans (they aren’t so bad), and I got through the day.  I will make the soup ahead the next time so I won’t have to fool around cooking vegetables before I eat, I’ll just have to heat things up.

For a tip, in case you’re eating bacon, I line a microwave rack with a sheet of paper towel, lay out the bacon slices without overlapping, and cover them with another sheet of paper towel.  I then microwave for four minutes.  It comes out wonderful, much better than using a frying pan.

I’m trying to get to the gym about every other day.  I didn’t make it today.  Probably won’t make it tomorrow, either.  However, I should be able to get to the treadmill (that’s all I do) pretty regularly starting this Thursday until the end of the month.  I walk the treadmill for 35 minutes, using a random incline, plus cool down for 5 minutes.  My MP3 player helps to relieve the boredom.  Eventually, I’d like to start using the beautiful pool they have, but I’m not ready to go there just yet.

Just one more thing, I did call Nutrisystem yesterday.  I was going to cancel my order completely, but I wound up just delaying it until the end of March.  I think I’d better make sure the WL4I diet works before I bail out on NS entirely.  The rep I spoke with was very nice.  I really have no complaints about Nutrisystem, other than I think the food is a little expensive for what you get.  The plan does work if you stick to it and drink your water.

Blackcal,

Good idea with the Nutrisystem.  I am due a shipment Feb 1st, and was just going to cancel all together, but I think I will just delay mine too.

I'm definitely not looking forward to veggie day either.  Especially since it is on Sunday for me, when I normally munch on things while watching the football game :)  But I haven't come this far to quit!

I hit the gym yesterday and also went to an aerobics class.  Working out isn't so bad for me, it actually relieves stress, so I enjoy it.  My diet went perfect yesterday too.  I was so excited to be over fruit day and to have real food.  It was yummy!

The treadmill is perfectly fine, and much better than doing nothing.  Maybe make a new goal for yourself next cycle to do cardio every other day.  I think you will find it a big help.

I will definitely try your bacon tip.  I usually end up frying it then blotting all the grease off.  It's a pain, and a mess!

Good luck today and keep up the good work!

So, I'm on Day 5 today.  I did really well yesterday.  Folled the diet exactly and got a really good workout in.

I was pretty tired this morning, so I decided to sleep in through my normal aerobics class, but I'm going to hit the gym during lunch hour.

Hi browneyedgirl,

What keeps me from the gym sometimes is the fact that I feel tired and need to stay in bed another couple of hours in the morning.  If I do that, that interferes with my workout, and I never make it to the gym.  I'm trying to get to bed earlier so I can get out of the house in time to both get enough sleep and have the workout.  Easier said than done!

I'm on my first "normal" day since I started WL4I.  I want to eat some beef.  I miss my hamburgers.  I might have to print out a new cycle tonight and go food shopping for Cycle #2 so I won't have to do it during the storm that's supposed to hit here tomorrow.  I want a drink, too.  I miss my beer!

I'm going to try to continue the 8 glasses of water even during these off days.

Oh, I was pleasantly surprised when I took my blood pressure yesterday and got a very good reading.  I don't know what's up with that, but I'll take it.

I'm glad you're doing well.  Will talk with you later.

Blackcal,

I heard you guys were getting quite a storm up there soon.  Yes, definitely go and get yourself some food!

I'm glad you will be able to enjoy some days off!  Drink a beer for me, because I sure do miss them too!  I didn't make it to the gym during lunch to work out, so I rushed after work and ran some errands that I've been putting off, then made it to an evening aerobics class.  My ankle sort of hurts though, I don't know what's up with that.  So I might just take it easy and do some walking through the weekend, then save aerobics for next week.

I'm glad to hear you're doing well.  Enjoy your weekend and enjoy your hamburger!

Hey Blackcal,

I just wanted to let you know that I weighed in today (Day 6) and I have lost 5 lbs so far.  I'm pretty excited!  I'm a bit worried about it being the weekend, though but I'm going to do the best I can!

I hope you're well!

Hi Browneyed,

I've come down with a cold.

Normally, I make a daily drink that contains, among other things, a very nutritious vegetable powder.  If I take this regularly I don't get sick, but I stopped using it when I started WL4I.  So, I'm going to have to resume making these nutrition shakes and work them into the WL4I diet somehow.  I can't keep on getting colds.

I went shopping today for my Cycle #2 stuff.  One hard thing to buy is chicken.  If I buy a whole cooked chicken, I generally wind up throwing half of it out.  So, I'm now buying thin chicken fillets that I can cook in a skillet using Pam vegetable spray.  These taste pretty good, and there's no waste to them, and I don't throw any of them out.  So, that's how I'm going to get my chicken in.  As for turkey, I'm just using deli turkey.  Probably a whole roasted turkey would be better, but that's not going to happen.

I had a late workout today.  I almost didn't go.

Congrats on your weight loss.  That's fantastic progress!

Have a great weekend.

Blackcal

Blackcal,

Yes, I usually just buy skinless chicken breasts.  I usually get them frozen, but sometimes I'll buy the fresh ones if I know I'm giong to use them that night.  There is so much waste to buying a whole chicken, and it's a lot more work!

I'm sorry to hear about your cold.  You know your body better than anyone esle does, so if you need to add in your nutrition drink, by all means, do it!

I went out to eat last night and ended up ordering a taco salad with no cheese.  Suprisingly, I was full after only 5-6 bites!  I really didn't expect that, but i'll take it!

Enjoy your weekend, and get better!

It's fine with me as long as browneyedgirl is OK with it.

Also, Peter the Administrator will have to be informed of the change.

Hi browneyedgirl,

Did you know that our quarterback Tom Brady is injured?  He's currently in New York wearing a walking cast.

Not good.  Our backup QB's have barely seen any action.

Hi browneyedgirl,

I'm on fruit day of my second cycle.  It's tough.  It's frigid outside and I want to sink my teeth into a pasta dinner, not an apple.  I'm getting through it, though.

The sandwich was great.  I put some bologna in between two slices of soft wheat bread.  I then nuked the sandwich slightly, just to heat it up a little bit.  Then, I put a ton of dark curly lettuce in-between.  It was really a great sandwich.  Adding the lettuce made a big difference.

I braved the cold and made it to the gym today.  I will try to do the same tomorrow.

Are you on your free days yet?

Hey Blackcal and Cindee,

Yes, I'm completely fine with Cindee joining our group.  Welcome, Cindee!

Blackcal- Yes, I heard about Brady.  He's a tough guy and I'm sure he will stick it out and kick a** in the game.  I don't see any chance of him not playing.  I was really surprised that the Giants pulled it out though.

I am glad you are getting through fruit day.  This is the worse!  The sandwich makes all the difference at the end of the day.  My days off will be this coming weekend.  I can not wait!  I am definitely going to have pizza and wings.  My 2 favorite things.  And a few beers as well!

Have a great rest of the day!

Hi BEG,

Cindee will not be joining us as she has hammered out a separate forum with other people.  Good luck everyone!

Today will be the first day in which I'll only be eating three meals.  I just don't have time for the fourth one.  It's almost 9:30 PM here and I want to go to bed, not start nuking sausages.  I'm just a rebel, I guess.  Ha!

Currently, I'm enjoying a nice piece of chicken, a pear, and an egg.  These pre-cut chicken pieces that you just fry up when needed are a great help.  Plus, you can be a crappie cook like me and they still come out pretty tasty.  It's hard to screw them up.

I'm going to start planning my cycles so that my free days fall on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.  I especially want free days on Feb 1-3, for, of course, the Superbowl.

Tom Brady should be fine by Feb 3.  I'm really not worried about it.  I wouldn't be suprised if him wearing the boot was done intentionally as some sort of a ruse to get the opposition over-confident.

I think the Giants are very dangerous.  I believe the Patriots will win the game by a touchdown or less.  Randy Moss should get a lot of action.

Keep truckin,

Yes, I know all about the chicken.  I'm not the best cook myself, although I have been getting better.  But they're a no fail!

My diet has been going well.  I feel like I'm getting a bit too comfortable with it though, and I'm adding (reasonable) things in here and there that I know I shouldn't.  My cheat days start tomorrow though, so i'm excited about that.  Overall though, I think I am doing pretty well and am definitely seeing results.

Yes, Brady will be fine.  It should be a really good game, I'm looking forward to it, although it won't (shouldn't) be a cheat period for me!

Have a wonderful day!

Hi BEG,

I hope this diet will work for me.  I'm going to weigh myself before the end of this current cycle to see if anything is happening.  I'm starting to get sick of the food.

I might alternate and do FL4I one month and then Nutrasystem the next month, and then go back to FL4I for another month.  That should really keep the metabolism going bonkers, right?

I'm in a foul mood tonight, but am real glad to see that you are currently doing well.

I'm behind on my workout schedule, as usual, but should be able to get caught up within the next few days.  I actually worked out last night after work, which is something I never do.

Off to drink more water.

Hi jonibug,

I can't wait for Superbowl weekend.  I'm going crazy with anticipation.  That Friday, Saturday, and Sunday I intend to have pizza, a cheeseburger, hot chocolate, and maybe Chinese food.  I'll try to keep to moderate quantities.

I won't be having any eggs, bacon, pinto beans, or any other idiot food on those days at all.  It will be right back to the diet on Monday.

Thanks.

I'm sorry to hear you're in a foul mood!  What's wrong?!!  I was that way on Tues/Wed.  Really no reason, other than that time of the month :)

I think the idea of alternating FL4I and Nutrisystem sounds good.  Of course your body will go bonkers, which is the key to losing weight, right?

Yes, I'm sick of the food too.  Tomorrow starts my cheat and I CANT WAIT!  I bought some teryaki rice tonight I can't wait to make for lunch tomorrow.  ALL CARBS but SO GOOD!

I really hope your get out of your rut, but hopefully tomorrow you'll wake up on the better side of the bed :)

Good luck with everything and just keep your spirits up!  Let me know how that scale goes!

Hi BEG,

I think the other day I was just so frazzled from all the little annoying tasks of the day that I was just being petulant because I didn't have any free time.  I really have been busy recently.  I need a vacation so bad.

I backed up my computer today for the first time since June.  Something I've been meaning to do and just never did.  Go on, crash, you devil of a system, I dare you.....!

I only had 3 meals yesterday because I didn't have time for the fourth one.  It will probably be the same thing today.  Well, if you count the shake that I'm adding in on my own, that might be called the fourth meal.  I'm not hungry, which is pretty amazing.  For breakfast all I had was a couple of slices of Provolone cheese and about 1/3 cup cottage cheese.  I didn't want any more than that.  Even when I do get hunger on this diet, it's not that bad and usually goes away.  I did have more cashews than usual earlier today because I figured I needed the calories.

I do like the portion control you have to exercise on this plan.  Much better and easier than measuring food.  I hate using measuring cups and spoons!

In the spirit of misery loves company, I'm kind of relieved that you are getting sick of the food, too.  I thought I was the only one out there who doesn't want to ever look at another egg, cashew, or bacon slice.

Will soon get the last of my water in for the day.

Have a great weekend.

Hey Blackcal,

I'm so sorry I've been MIA for the last couple days.  I've been crazy busy with work and school.  Anyway, things are going great.  I lost 8 lbs on my first cycle, but gained 3 of it back during my 3 cheat days.  I tend to go a little lighter on my next 3 days off.  But it's still 5 lbs down!

I'm glad to hear that you are doing well.  It sounds like you are doing great with the plan overall.  Yes, I have been pretty full too and sometimes don't eat a 4th meal either.  I also found that adding a protein shake on fruit day works best for me to get through fruit day.  I have it for breakfast, then 2 fruit meals, then my sandwich.

I'm sure you're all hyped up for the Superbowl.  I am too!  I miss watching football.

Anyway, I hope you're having a wonderful week so far, and keep up the good work!

Hi BEG,

It's so cold here tonight, I'm typing this at my computer with my coat on.

I've lost about 7 pounds in 10 days.  I don't think I'll continue to lose at this rate, but this is good progress for me.  I normally don't lose weight that fast.

I'm staying up a little longer tonight so I can get meal #4 in.  For some reason, drinking the water wasn't the usual problem today that it normally is.  It helps to start drinking it as early in the day as possible.

I'm also done with gym workouts for the rest of the month.  I'll start them up again probably this Friday.

Glad to read that you are doing well.

Blackcal,

Congrats on the 7lb weight loss.  That is great!  Keep up the good work.

It's been pretty cold here too, but probably not as bad as NE.  I'm sure your town will be going crazy with the Superbowl.  I remember when PGH was in it, this town was crazy.  It's such a rush!

Glad to hear you're planning on hitting the gym tomorrow :)

Hi BEG,

I'm doing an extra soup day (so this is Day 12 for me).  I need to do this in order to have my three free days Friday, Saturday, and Super Bowl Day.  I'm afraid I'll probably eat during the game like there's no tomorrow.  These contests make me so nervous that all I do sometimes is eat, just because of the stress.

I hope to gain only a couple of pounds over the weekend.  We'll see!

Friday, I'm planning on having a fried haddock lunch at a neat little restraurant that just reopened for business this week.

Saturday, I'm going to Denny's to have breakfast with a friend of mine.  As her year-old son opens Sweetn'Low packets all over the table, I'll be digging into the first pancakes I've had in a long, long time.  And enjoying coffee with real cream!

Sunday I have no idea what I'll have.  Probably a couple of beers and maybe some pizza.

The free days on the Idiot Diet is a glorious concept.

Yum...I love Denny's breakfast!  I hope you are enjoying your couple cheat days.

I am the same way with nervousness.  I eat, and eat, and eat some more!  Hopefully the Patriots will just do so darn good that you don't get nervous at all!

At any rate, have a beer (and pizza) for me and get ready to get back on track Mon.

Good luck!

Hi BEG,

I'm enjoying a good weekend so far.  Right now I'm having a beer and waiting for the game to start.

I've decided to go ahead with the Nutrasystem Diet starting tomorrow through February 28.  Then, I'll do 3 free days before restarting WL4I.  I hope by alternating diets and having occasional free days that I'll both get my metabolism revved up and keep from going totally crazy from eating the same foods all the time.

I have to go shopping tomorrow to pick up some grocery items to complement the Nutrasystem foods.  It won't be cashews, bacon, or pinto beans, that's for sure.

I'm doing OK on the exercise front, but I find it's still a huge pain.  I just hate to exercise.

Right back to the diet world first thing tomorrow!

Go Patriots.

Ohhh what a freakin game.  I would have never expected that

I hope you didn't have too much nervous eating.  Let me know how switching back and forth btw Nutrisystem and FL4I works.  What foods do you like on NS?  I really enjoyed the vegetarian sloppy joe, but they no longer have that :(  I also liked the pizza and the chicken and almond thing.

Good luck and happy Monday.

Hi BEG,

The Patriots played a horrible game yesterday.  I believe they have gone as far as they can.  It's all over for them.

As for Nutrisystem, I used to like their chicken with dumplings, but they changed the formula, and I don't like the new version as well.  After awhile, all their food starts to taste the same.  I generally, for dinner, try to order pasta-type meals and avoid meat-based entrees.  I'm currently eating their ravioli, which isn't bad.  Their lunches, for the most part, are sad.  Their lunch/breakfast bars are good, but aren't particularly filling.  I think they should be used only when cooking is not an option.

NS has a tendency to put mushrooms in a lot of their foods.  I hate mushrooms and pick them out of the meal.  A lot of their stuff is spicy, too, and I'm not really fond of spicy food, so I have to watch out for that.

I love most of their desserts, particularly the Nutrisystem chocolates.

Later,

I'm so glad you said that....I also noticed a lot of mushrooms in there entree's and I also hate mushrooms!  I also believe that their lunches are not filling.  Breakfast and dinner I enjoyed, as well as dessert.  But lunch always left me hungry.  Nutrichocolates were my favorite as well as the chocolate mint bar.  The BBQ Soy Chips are also great!

Hey, ya'll!! I have not been back snooping in your journal lately, so didn't see your response to my invitation. You know what that means...... I've been struggling! Grrrrrrr........!! Sounds like you are off to a GREAT start! Gwen and I are just starting to get stable. Let's try one week and see how it goes? How about next week. We can weigh on Monday (or Tuesday) and do it again the following week and  race each other to our goals?

Here's our thread: http://www.caloriesperhour.com/forums/forum50/4759-2.html

Hi,

Yes, indeed, I'm a female!  As I explained previously to BEG, Blackcal is simply a combination of the name of a wonderful cat that I once had plus cal, for calories.

BEG, I'm having kind of a tough time getting back into NS.  It's been awhile since I've last eaten this stuff.  Plus, I'm coming off a long weekend of full eating. I'm probably going from eating 1900 calories a day to less than 1400 calories.  I want to stick Nutrisystem out at least through the end of this month before going back to WL4I.  I have a lot of their food to use up.

I don't weigh myself that often because of the number of plateaus I've had in the past.  I'm planning on weighing myself this Sunday.  I will certainly let you guys know if I've lost anything.  I should.

Later!

Hang in there, girl!  The first day back to ANY diet really sucks!  It's hard to stay motivated knowing that it's only your first day, so if you cheat, you can start again tomorrow.  BAD mentality to have!

I would suggest loading up a little extra on the veggies, especially for dinner.  Then, just look forward to that snack at the end of the day.  You can definitely do it.

I'll probably weigh myself friday morning, then again on sunday to see how much I've lost this cycle, then how much I gained back during the 3 cheat days.

Next week is going to be hard because my husband it taking me out to dinner on Valentines day, then again over the weekend.  Oh well, I guess it's all about moderation!

Hang in there Blackcal...remember, it's only food and the primary purpose is to act as fuel to your diet.  Your tastebuds want pizza, but your body doesn't :)

Actually, BEG, I just had pizza - Nutrisystem style!  Along with brussels sprouts and a pear, all for dinner.  I'm not going to get my water in today because I started on it too late in the day.  I'll do the best I can.

I'm drinking special tea, also, that's supposed to help curb your appetite.  I think it does help a little bit.

I don't have any Nutrisystem breakfasts, so I'm coming up with my own breakfast, making sure it's under 300 calories.  I'm trying to keep breakfast, lunch, and my snack each under 300 calories, and my dinner less than 500 calories.

I think I've probably at least lost any weight I gained over the three free weekend days.  I think I have to eat better when I have a free day, I went a little overboard the last time.

Have a good weekend,

Blackcal-- Yummy, their pizza is pretty good!  I'm glad to hear you are adapting!  Did you know that you can order some breakfasts al la carte off their website?  As long as you are coming up with your own and keeping them under 300 cal, I think you'll be fine.

I weighed myself this moring (today starts my 3 cheats) and I'm down 7 more lbs.  So that's 12 that I"m down total between the two cycles.  I'm pretty excited.

I ran in to my old nutritionist the other day and told her about this diet.  She wanted to meet with me and go over it and see if she has any other suggestions.  I'm interested to see what she'll say.

Anyway, I slept in a bit today, so now it's time to get up and moving.  Have a wonderful day and keep up the good work!
