Hi Voodoodoll, I've seen you on "End 2007" challenge and the new one for 2008. I understand where you are. I actually began my battle on July 16th and was weighing in at 290 lbs. Very tough as I just turned 56 last month. Weight loss at any age is hard especially when we let it go. As of today I'm down 55 lbs. and I'm averaging 2.2 lbs a week. If I can keep this up I'll be down 100 lbs by May (I think). I've lost weight before (as much as 40 lbs) but it's always been on something like Atkins or drinking Slim Fast milkshakes, etc. The fads don't work. Burning more calories than I'm taking in, watching what I'm eating and exercise is the only way. By only shooting for 2 lbs a week I think my lifestyle will change and I'll be able to keep in off. My BMI started at 42.8. "Morbily Obese." When I dropped to the "Obese" level I was excited. I'm shooting now for "Overweight." When I get to 190 I'm going to join a gym and get a personal trainer to help me work toward a final goal. I'm not sure what I'll do for maintenance when I get to it though. Let's keep in touch. I'll do the battle with you. You have a weakness for curry? I have a weakness for everything. Bert |

Diet Buddies is brand new and I've been changing it as I figure out how to make it work. For my latest attempt at explaining my recent changes, please read How to Use this Forum. I believe I've simplified it my making two forums, the one you're in now to FIND a diet buddy, and then a second forum where you will actually work together. Thanks for your patience! Peter |

Hey Bert thanks for replying. first of all i'd love to be your diet buddy! you have done so well to lose over 50lbs so far! i too used to be morbidly obese (bmi 41.5) when i started last june at 281lbs and i know how big a mile stone it was when i got down to obese, and like you im so excited at the prospect of eventually getting to the overweight catagory! what is yout current weight at the moment? im 248lbs and i get weighed every friday at the gym. i think the gym has been the key to my weight loss to far. i seem to find it a lot easier to exercise than the healthy eating part, but i am working on it and since the new year i havent had any major disasters regardign going over on the calories. in just over 2 weeks time my exams start and im sure ill need all the support i can get then as in years gone by revision and exam times have involved me revising with a bag of chocolate and for my meals eating nothing but junk food. but so far this time has been different, im just hoping it will continue! i hope all is well for you at your end Bev i have been reading how to do this diet buddy thing and i think the next step now is for me to PM a moderator to move the topic into the other forum. |

Hi Bev, I'm currently at 235. I weigh in on Mondays and as of the 7th I was down 55 lbs. It was very difficult at first, when I began in July. I had to get focused and set a date that I was going to start. The food part was tough as I not only had to change my idea of what I was eating and how much but I had to develop tastes for things that I didn't really eat much of. With respect to the exercise, this too was a challenge. I have an stationary bike, weights and a bench in the house. I began with the bike and could only do 10 minutes to start. I worked up a sweat and hit it the next day. I've tried to increase my time and speed as the months have gone by and I'm up to 50 minutes and my speed is up too. I try to do the bike 5-6 times a week. For once or twice a week I'll do 30 minutes and then hit the weights and do push ups and crunches. I don't like the lifting part much so that's why I think I'll go to a personal trainer down the road. You will have a tough time during exams as that's when you'll be out of a regular routine. One thing I can suggest is to develop a plan of when you'll eat, what you'll eat and stick to that plan. Work in into your study schedule and stick to it. If you don't get to the gym think about just doing some exercises in the house like sit ups, pushups, etc. Even some running in place will get the heart going and you won't have to leave the house and distrupt your study. Hang in there and let's keep in touch with the PM or what ever Peter can come up with. Pete, if you read this just let us know what we should do. Bert |

Bert, I'm not sure what your question is. Just keep working together right here... post away! (PMs were for getting together if you didn't want to do it in public.) Sorry for all the confusion as I figure out how this forum should work! Peter P.S. Oh, I see. I got confused too! I think another Moderator saw your posts above and moved this topic for us! |

Peter, Sounds good. I got the impression that under the forum guidelines that there was an intention for those interested in a support buddy would eventually be directed to use PMs but we can communicate just fine here. Thanks, Bert |

Actually the original idea was that people initially used PMs to privately negotiate who would buddy-up with whom and then, once agreed, post publicly in topics -- but that idea is shelved (because people apparently don't want to do that). Either way the idea is to use the topic for the diet buddies to give each other support (and for other forum members to read on) |

hey bert, i hope things are going well for you. i've been doing well, my fiance was eating a big bowl of ice cream last night and it was awfull tempting but somehow i managed to avert my eyes and instead had some low calorie jelly. i call things like that non scale victories, i think i picked that term up from someone on this site, but it refers to all the changes and decisions i make which show my lifestyle is changing and getting healthier. you had a good idea about doing exercise at home. whilst im revising i might start doing some sit ups each evening before i go to bed. at least that way im doing something in my day other than sitting down and reading, which cant exactly burn many calories! as of now i am finally ahead of my revision plan, which means i will give myself some time off this evening to go to the gym for a swim. i love swimming in an evening before i go to bed as it clears my mind of my work and means i fall asleep as soon as my head touches the pillow. hope all is well at your end, bev p.s where abouts in the US is North Carolina?is it somewhere in the middle? |

Hey Bev, I know what you mean about averting your eyes. When I watch TV I have to shut my eyes when food commercials come on. Some of them are just designed to make you hungry. It's especially tough when it's a commercial for a restaurant and they're showing all those delicious dinners. Heck, even a BigMac looks good on TV. I noticed on the challenge chart that you didn't have any numbers posted. You may want to send those to DG or Peter to get up to speed. North Carolina is just North of South Carolina. What did you think?? Very West of Sheffield but very east of the far east. It's all perspective. Bert ![]() |

Hi Bev, 2.7 is fantastic!!!! I've been keeping a log since mid-July on my weight loss and I've been averaging 2.2 lbs a week. This is an excellent and safe rate of loss. Keep in mind that 2 lbs a week is 104 lbs in a year. The other good thing about a slow steady rate of loss is that it gives us a chance to really change our habits and develop a new, healthier lifestyle. This is incredibly important for long term maintenance. I've lost weight before but in a short period of time and I've always put it back on and then some. As far as the pizza goes, if you're working out religiously and watching the calories faithfully each day, there's no reason why you can't treat yourself to something once a week. This way you won't feel deprived and it reflects a more realistic way of living which will also be key to long term maintenance. I told my wife that when I hit 60 lbs. lost I'm going to pick up a pizza from our favorite place and I'm going to enjoy the heck out of it!! Stay strong, allow yourself an indulgence now and then and keep a long term perspective on your weight and you'll be fine. Remember that this is something we're doing with the idea that we're doing it for the rest of our lives. One pizza over the next 20 years isn't going to matter. And remember, if you have the discipline to become a lawyer, this should be a piece of cake (pun intended Have a wonderful weekend!!! Bert |

Hi Bev, How was your weekend? Mine was hectic. My wife got home from a family funeral in New York very late on Thursday evening (Friday AM actually) so we didn't get a chance to talk. We sat down Friday night after work and she relayed the events of the funeral and she was very emotional. She didn't know it but my son was about to call her with fantastic news (I knew Wednesday). We are going to become grandparents again. When he told her she broke down completely. The stress of the trip and funeral was so much that when she heard the good news all she could do was cry. He made her week. I was crying too. We had pizza for dinner. Move ahead to Saturday night. A good friend turned 60 and he and his wife had a "60's" party. Eveyone was a hippie. My wife went as a "mod" from the days of the "mods and rockers" from the 60's "British Invasion." I went as a Peace Corps volunteer. I didn't want to get a costume as I'm spending enough on clothes already. We had many snacks, a cupcake, beer, etc. Kind of "The Lost Weekend." Sunday morning I was up to 237 lbs. It just goes to show you how salt and snack foods will put it on. I worked out on Sunday and I was down to 234 this morning which is a net loss of 1 lb. for the week. I'll take it! I'm hoping that, just maybe, I've tricked my body again and next week will show a better loss. I've a busy week planned and I'll be working out a lot too. Here's hoping. Let me know how you're doing. I'm going to try and post a photo from the party. My wife is the cute one in the black and white outfit. OK, no luck on the pic. Peter, if you happen to read this (I know DG will Have a great day! Hey Bev, How's it going? I haven't heard from you in a couple of days. I miss you. I got on the scale again today and I've lost the fluid weight I put on over the weekend. I know it's not my official weigh in day but I hit the scale each day just to keep myself focused. Monday is my day. I've got a crazy weekend shaping up. I play guitar at my church ( we really rock the flock) and between work, practice, rehearsal with the band, three services and having company on Sunday for dinner, I'll really have to plan what I'm going to eat and make sure I get in the exercise. We're going to do a couple of songs by the Dave Matthews Band at our service. Our pastor really uses secular music along with contemporary Christian rock to tie in with his message. It wears me out but I love it. They always have sausage, ham and chicken biscuits for breakfast for us. I eat yogurt and fruit. It's tough but I'm hanging in there. Let me know how you're doing. Hey Voodoo, Where are you? I hope you're OK. I haven't heard from you in 10 days. I know you're heavily involved with your studies. Hang in there. I know that can be very tough. I weighed in this morning and I'm at 231 lbs. That's a 3 lbs loss from last Monday. We had my son, daughter-in-law, grandson, daughter, daughters room mate and my mother over for dinner last night. I really tried to be strong. I was good all day and was good for dinner but I did have some indulgence with cheese and crackers and a few glasses of white wine. It may have cost me a lb for the weeks weigh in as I was at 230 as of Friday morning but what the heck. If this is going to be a lifestyle change for me there are going to be times when I'm going to indulge a bit. As long as I keep an eye on things and get right back on that horse, I should be successful. Speaking of getting back on the horse, I'm going to sign off and hit the stationary bike for 51 minutes. I know, I know; what's the difference between 50 and 51 minutes? It's a lot if you're sucking in as much oxygen as you can for the last minute. Good luck with your studies and please stay in touch and let me know how you're doing. Bert |

Hey Bev, Just checking in with you. I hope all is well. My wife and I are headed out of town tomorrow so I won't have access to a computer. We thought that the only way we're going to have a peaceful weekend is if we leave town and get away from everything. We're headed to the beach. It's too cold to sit out in the sun but at least we'll have a change of scenery. We'll go out to dinner too and I'll have to be vigilant. I know that my normal weigh in day is Monday but I got on the scale today and I dipped below 230 lbs. It showed 228 as of today. Again, I have to be careful and see how the weekend goes but it felt great. We have one of those older scales where the wheel has all the numbers on it and turns to the number you're at. Well, this is the first time in 20 years that I could actually see the number 200 on the wheel in the window. Up until now I was up so high I couldn't see it. Please stay in touch. I'm gettin' lonely out here. Bert |

Hi Bev, Well, what I thought might happen did. I weighed in this morning and was at 230 lbs. That's a 1 lb. loss from last week but I was doing better before I went away for the weekend with my wife. We enjoyed ourselves but I paid the price. I did try to eat as well as I could and I exercised in the hotel fitness center but I didn't put the time in that I normally do. I got back on the horse again this morning though and hit it hard. We'll see what this week brings. Stay in touch. I miss you. Bert |

Hey Bert! I'm pretty sure voodoodoll is NOT having second thoughts about having a diet buddy. I think her law books have fallen on her and pinned her down or something because I've threatened to swim across the pond and check on her but no response. She's probably just studying really, really hard or having computer problems. She'll be back. In the meantime, a big congratulations on hitting 60#. Awesome job!!! Do you find it's getting easier? I don't. It's taking more and more for me to drop the weight. Bummer. I think it should be getting easier. Oh well. Take care. I hope voodoodoll resurfaces soon! DG |

Hi DG, Yeah, I thought she was slammed with studies too. I admire her dedication. If she can tackle law school losing weight should be a piece of cake (pun intended). Is it easier? It depends on the day. I've found that I've developed tastes for things that I wouldn't eat much of in the past such as vegetables. I've also come to recognize portions and I know how much to take. Eating 5 times a day (healthy snacks in between regular meals) helps too and I'm getting used to that. The other thing that helps is that I update the folks at work on where I am with respect to weight. I work with a great bunch and they're very supportive. By telling them about my progress it keeps me accountable. They all know I want to lose 100 lbs. and that keeps me focused. I have problems some days with exercise. I know this is something I'm going to have to do for the rest of my life and the prospect doesn't appeal to me. I work out 5-6 days a week now but some mornings I just can't do it. Today was an example. I normally get up at 5:00 am but I didn't sleep well last night and I couldn't get my butt in gear. I'll pick it up again tomorrow. I think that's the key for me long term. If I don't exercise one day or if I go off the diet to enjoy myself once and a while(my wife and I went away this past weekend for some R&R and I was a little bad), I have to look at it as a life time endeavor and that makes it ok if I go off a bit now and again. I think my big concern is maintenance. I'll have to figure out what my calorie intake should be to maintain and develop a regular exercise program in conjunction with that. The fact that I've come so far though is a great motivator. The goal doesn't seem as far as it did in July. If I were to offer any advice to anyone trying to lost weight it would be to keep an eye on the ultimate goal but focus on the short term. The rest will take care of itself. Thanks for getting up with me. I appreciate it. Bert |

Hi Bev, I hope the studies are going well. I admire your dtermination. Well, I lost 3 lbs this past week. I'm getting frustrated though. I know that I've made great progress (total weight loss since July 16th - 63 lbs) but It just seems like this is going on forever. I have to get my mind set on the fact that this is going to be a lifestyle change and that it won't really end. I guess the stresses of work, home life, and elderly mother (bother and sister are out of state and I have that load by myself), etc., make things difficult and I find myself wanting to snack, eat a pizza, have a few beers and say the #%@&! with all this. I have to keep reminding myself of the good things that are coming from this effort and use that to help keep focused. I know, I'm whining. I had a fight with my wife yesterday and I didn't get much sleep last night. I did work out on Saturday, Sunday AM and went for a brisk walk for about an hour late yesterday afternoon. I struggled to get up this morning but I forced myself to get a hard half hour on the stationary bike. I'm still in a #%@&! mood. Thanks for letting me vent. Please let me know how you're doing. Regards, Bert |

Bert, I know your last entry was to Bev, but I gotta respond. You're not surprised, I know. First of all, congrats on the 63# loss. I am at 63# today too! Do we rock or WHAT?! That being said, I totally get what you say about it feeling like it's been going on forever. That is sooo true. Some days are definitely harder than others. If you read my diary, you'll see plenty of moaning and groaning when my scale doesn't move. Fight with your wife, huh? Well, if I remember correctly you've been married a long time, right? So...you know what time it is? YUP, I'm butting in, but dude, it's kiss and make up time! Take it from me, married 24 years, kiss and make up time will help that stress level go way down. And it will help you get a good night's rest tonight. As far as your mom, I'm sorry to hear she's in poor health. I'll keep you and her in my prayers. I know how stressful it is caring for an elderly loved one. So dude, it's chin up time. CHIN UP! And I think it's a great idea to go visit your friend. I expect a full report on how blown away he is by your new appearance. I'm beginning to wonder if Bev is ever going to get her head out of those books! Sorry to be so chatty! Take care. DG |

Hi DG, Thanks for all the encouragement! We've been married 33 years and yes, we don't always see eye to eye but we do at least 95% of the time. We're fine this morning. You've been there, I can tell. You're at 63 lost too?? Wonderful!!! Isn't it exciting?? I'm 37 from my goal and although I know this will be a life time change, it's really great to be able to see how close I am to the goal. Thanks for the prayers for my mother. I get impatient sometimes with everything else I have going on. I think my real impatience comes from the fact that she's so negative about everything in her life. She aches and is feable for sure. She's 83. But she can still drive, goes out with her friends, does her own shopping (lately I've been doing a lot of this) and she has a good home that's paid for. She's a lot better off than a lot of people her age. I just wish she's capitalize on the good in her life. Don't think you've been chatty at all. I really appreciate you checking in on this post. Enjoy Fat Tuesday!!!! Thanks, Bert |

Hi Jonibug, I started the change in my eating habits and exercising on July 16th, 2007. I've been averaging 2.2 lbs a week. I'm not trying to do this too quickly. I want to make sure it stays off and more importantly, give myself the time I need to make these new behaviors habit and part of my life. Eight lbs is great!!! I don't know how much you want to lose but don't get discouraged. As you continue, set mini goals. Maybe the next one is 2 lbs and you'll hit that 10 lbs mark. Maybe each 10 lb mark is a goal with the ultimate goal down the road. If I started with a primary focus on losing 100 lbs it would have been difficult at the beginning as it was so far away. Mini goals really helped me to celebrate little victories along the way. Keep a weekly record of your progress too. It's great to be able to have a visual of where you've been and that helps you to continue. Lastly, use this web site as much as you can. The value of this site, besides the great support we get on the forums, is the straight forward information on why we gain weight and what it takes to lose it. It's detailed and it allows us to make our own plan rather than be locked into Weight Watchers, LA Weight Loss, etc. These are good plans but I feel it's better if we develop our own as it will be more conducive to a personal life style change. That's my 2 cents worth. Keep up the great work!! Bert |

Hi Miss Bev, I hope all is well on your side of the pond. Well, I lost 1 lb. this past week. It was a battle but I think I sabataged myself over the weekend. My wife and I went to dinner Friday night. I had a piece of grilled fish with a warm mango salsa and vegtables. I think the bread with the olive oil and pesto did me in. I also had a glass of wine. On Sunday we had a rotisserie chicken with some brown rice and steamed veggies. I took the skin off the chicken but it was still greasy and I ate the dark meat to boot. All things considered though, one pound isn't bad. Some of what I ate may have been high in salt and I'll be interested to get on the scale again on Tuesday AM just to see if I really lost any more. Mondays are my official weigh in days though so I have to go with what I have. I hope you're doing well. I hear that Paul McCartney's ex is in need of a lawyer. Want the job??? Stay in touch. I'm not giving up on you so don't give up on me. Bert |

hey DG, The weekend hasn't started yet. Still got a couple of hours. Normally I go with my Monday weight and when people ask me how much I've lost, I tell them what my Monday weight was. I do weigh myself each day though and as of today, 2/15, I showed a 69 lb loss. If you hear breathing behind you, IT'S ME! Be afraid, be very afraid. Have a great weekend and let's see where we are on Monday!! Bert |

69 lbs!!!! Whooo hooo....no wonder when I just looked behind me, you were gone. I did feel a breeze whoosh by me....I should have known it was YOU! Now, it's on! I'm breathing down your neck...boy, oh boy, I need to catch up. I can't believe I let you pass me by...don't worry, it's temporary. Have a great weekend. You should have your wife treat you to some brownies and a cake. (just kidding). DG |

Hi DG, I posted on the challenge but I just wanted to let you know that the 69 lbs was a good number for today. I was hoping for 70 but there's always next week. One thing I've noticed is that if, say every 4-5 weeks, I go off a bit ln the weekend and only show a one lb loss for the week (been averaging 2.2) and I get back on really strong the following week, I generally show a bigger loss. This is pretty consistent per the chart I've been keeping since mid July. There may be something to the idea of tricking one's system. Any thoughts? Bev, still missing you. I hope all is well. Bert |

WOW Bert. 69#. I am still at 66#. I bet you can't even feel me breathing down your neck now that you've sprinted ahead like a madman. Impressive. I'm really gonna be on you like white on rice this week. So...pull over... have some ice cream ....Mr. Rabbit, because Ms. Tortoise is coming up the path...ever so slowly. Dang. 69#. You really did reach for you mate instead of the plate. Congrats. It is so on right now...you don't even know. (Are you scared?) ha. Bev, the search party is even getting worried. Check in on us, sister. DG |

Hey Bert! I'm at 67# today so I'm slooowly catching up to you. I was thinking of sending my chocolate chip cookie recipe so your wife can make you a big batch. There's only four sticks of butter and 24 oz. of chocolate chips. What do you think? Come on...I gotta catch up some way. he he. DG |

Ooo! You are evil. Just for that, I'm goint to tell you what my total loss is as of this morning. 70 lbs! I was going to wait until Monday but I may be down a few more by then. It's a long way off though. Tag, you're it. Bert |

70#!!!!! Wow!!! Congrats. That deserves a double batch of chocolate chip cookies. LOL. Dang, you're right, I am "it"....as in second place "it"....BUT I'm on my way to the indoor track (yuk!) since it's pouring here. So...you can quit your little rain dance because I'm still going to exercise. I have to catch up. Have a great day. I'll be sweating trying to catch up. Oh...have I told you about the white chocolate bread pudding that I make that is to die for....ha! All in good fun. Maybe. Sort of. Nah, it IS all in good fun. DG |

No bourbon sauce. Just white chocolate....lots of creamy, rich white chocolate! It's Friday and the scale has me down by 68#. Oh yeah! I'm catching up. But don't worry...you just need to sit back, have a few Doritos, a little beer and some ice cream...I'll let you know when I'm really close. he, he. Dude, you threw that gauntlet down and it just torqued me up to get going even more. It is on..............did 4 miles this morning and doing 4 more this afternoon. And you just thought all Southern women were ladies. ha! Have a great weekend. |

DG, Sorry I didn't get right back to you. I was stuffing my face with some 100 calorie popcorn, my mid-afternoon snack. Now, to business! Did 4 miles??? Was that in the mini-van or????? I have to be honest and give full disclosure. The beer and Doritos won't pass these lips this weekend but I had promised my bride that when I hit 70 lbs lost we would get a pizza from our favorite place. I'm at 71 as of this morning and she reminded me of my promise. What's a guy to do???? Have a good weekend and try getting out of the van and put some effort into the miles. LOL! Have a great weekend too. Bert |

Well, well, well....I didn't know we were going to get down and dirty. So now you have a tail on me and have figured out those 4 miles were in a car, huh? The gig is up, I guess. This morning I had my hubby drive the SUV down the road with a carrot hanging from the bumper...boy, did that make me run! Carrots...yum, yum! Just imagine if it was cheesecake or chocolate cake or chocolate anything. I would burn the rubber off of the bottom of my shoes...oh yeah. LOL. 71#...I need to talk to your wife. I think she is STARVING you. You should definitely have your own pizza with LOTS of cheese. And dessert...lots of dessert. Well, bring on Monday, that's what I say. Bring it onnnnnnnnnnnnn..............bring on the scale and all the trash talk you can muster. You've met your match. (Are you scared? Such tough talk from a southern gal...you gotta love it! ha.) In the meantime, have a great weekend and try not to have nightmares. LOL. |

The upside is that I worked my butt off on the stationary bike on Sat. and again on Sunday, along with some weight lifting on Sunday. Bottom line, I'm still at 71 lbs gone and my weight as of this morning is 219!! I'll take it. Now I have to get on track again for this week. Let's be strong!!! Hi, I worked out a strong 52 minutes on the stationary bike this morning and worked up a good sweat. Tomorrow I'll do 30 minutes and then lift weights. Now and then I'll treat myself to something like a pizza and it seems to trick my system such that when I get back on the wagon, I'll lose more. I don't know why that is or if there's a term for it but it seems to work. It seems to confuse my system/metabolism etc. Pizza is a good one to use as the protien from the cheese is harder to metabolize than say, sugar. The tomatoe sauce is good but the crust is the problem. The pizza I get is a thinner crust so that's helpful. I don't get any other toppings although some veggies might not be a bad idea. I weighed in this morning and still at 71 but I'm eager to see what the rest of the week brings. You're gonna break that 70 lb mark this week. What kind of exercise are you doing? What's your percentage of aerobics vs. strength training? Have a great day! Bert |

Well, Peter, lately it has been me and Bert. Voodoodoll seems to be missing in action. She set off to take some tests and we haven't heard from her. There are rumors floating around that she may be representing Heather Mills in her lawsuit against Paul McCartney, but we have yet to nail that jello to a tree. Anyway, I kind of barged in looking for her and harassed, uh, I mean encouraged, Bert in the process. So here we are. OK, Bert. You are probably at 75# lost, right? I'm a hair under 70#. Maybe if I shaved my head, I would be there. ha. How scary would that be? It's just taking it's own sweet time in melting off of me. I'm a tad bit frustrated but I'm rocking along. In answer to your question regarding exercise, I walk everyday. At least 4 miles and several times a week 8 miles a day. There's some jogging in there too. I also take a one hour aerobics class on Thursday evenings. And occasionally I will do one of my Turbo Jam tapes. My hubby, who is extremely muscular and pumps iron daily, is trying to get me to start lifting weights. I guess I do need to do that.... Well, Peter, I guess I need to change my name to Diet Buddy Group Crasher. DG, for now. |

No, I'm only down 72 lbs. ONLY? Please! That's fantastic. You are shedding it so consistently. As usual, I'm impressed. I'm going to hit 71# (at least) by Friday. That will put me at 199. Still, a lot, but I cannot tell you the last time my scale went there. I'm trying to stay strong mentally and physically. It's getting more difficult to lost 10# a month but I've lost 70# in seven months, give or take a day. I'm focused though. I picture it as being on the downswing so it should be easier....I want to lose 50 more. What about you? What is your ultimate goal? And how long will it take you to get there? Keep on inspiring me with your consistency. I'm trying to keep up with you! |

You're really doing great. I don't think that people realize how much work, focus and discipline it takes to lost large amounts of weight. Those who have never had weight issues just think "Wow, they really let themselves go." They're clueless. I think those of us who put weight on easily understand why and being able to fight the battle and win is a tremendous accomplishment. You're doing so well and, believe me as a person who understands and can really empathize, I'm proud of you. I don't know what my ultimate goal will be. I know I want to lose 100 lbs. That will put me at 190 lbs. I haven't been under 200 since 1988. I'm close but I still have a lot of work to do. If I keep on going the way I am I should be there sometime in June. When I hit 190 lbs I intend to get a personal trainer at a gym and explain to him/her my journey, my approach and my accomplishment to date. I'll then work with them to plan an exercise strategy that will build muscle for strength and metabolic increase as well as take up some of the loose skin I'm getting. I don't want to be a body builder but I want increase muscle mass and strength. I don't know if I told you but when I began this journey, the primary motivation was that I came to realize that if my wife and I were out at night and we were acosted, I would be unable to protect her. I don't want to be in that position (of course carrying a .45 auto helps too I suspect when all is said and done I'll end up somewhere around 170-180. I just don't know. Then the real work starts. I'll have to stay in shape and maintain the rest of my life. You know, when we hit our goals we should begin a maintainence string. Let's stay strong together!!! Bert |

Wow! Your plan sounds great. I can tell you've thought about it alot. And yep, I agree with you that lots of folks are clueless. I'm proud of all of us and I think we'll be starting that maintenance string sometime this summer if all goes according to plan. That's exciting! In the meantime, keep rocking along, my gun-toting friend! |

Hey Bert! That recipe looks yummy. I will have to give it a try. Guess what I bought. A weighted vest. It's a black vest that has pockets all over it and you put one pound weights in it. It holds up to twenty pounds. I walked two miles with 4 lbs in it this morning and I got quite a workout. I look like I'm on a SWAT team or something but that's ok. I was going to put some letters on the back: FBI . Folks would think it stood for Federal Bureau of Investigation but it would really stand for Fat Butt In-motion. ha. Scale down to 198.6 this morning...so that's 71.4#. What's up with you??? |

Hi, You crack me up!!! I actually have a cap from the FBI. I was in the firearms business in another life (career) and we did things with them, Border Patrol, Secret Service, etc. I'll bet you look cool in your vest. I was thinking bullet proof when I was reading about it. You know what would be interesting, if you could put 71 lbs in that thing and walk around in it. What a reminder that would be of where you were (and never to go back!). I just had lunch with my daughter and we have our own challenge for March. We're going to lose 8 lbs this month. She's lost 65 lbs (we have a bunch of fatties in the family) and has gained 10 back. She'll get it off though. I got on the scale this AM, before my workout, and weighed in at 215 lbs. I know that Monday is my official day but I like to get weighed daily as it helps me focus. That brings me to 75 lbs even. You're well over the 70 lbs mark. That's fantastic!!!! Do you remember, a few months ago, when I told you I was going to visit my buddy in VA.? Well, I'm heading up next Friday. I told him not to get a lot of food in as I've been trying to lose weight. I haven't seen him since last spring so this should be cool. Stay strong and stay in touch! Bert |

Ohhhh...send the cap and a few weapons too. THAT would be cool. How old is your daughter? She'll get those 10# off in no time. So what does the challenge winner win in your family ... besides looking and feeling better? That's great you two support each other. Congrats on the 75#. I knew you would be there this week? Didn't I say so earlier in the week? Glad you're going to see your buddy? Do y'all have plans to do anything fun? I'm going to try to push it a little harder this weekend. I need to be at 73# by Monday. You KNOW I hate to be behind you...frankly, I'm tired of looking at your arse...it's time for you to be following me. ha. There I go, trash talking again. Talk to you soon! |

Well, the upside for you is that your eyes won't have to work so hard looking at my arse since it's smaller. My daughter is the ripe old age of 27. The problem for her though is her work schedule. She works in a microbiology lab on second shift and sometimes she doesn't get out until 1:00 am. This makes it tough as she has to unwind a bit before bed and she doesn't get to sleep sometimes until 3:00 am. She hasn't been working out and that's why she put the 10 back on. All the weight she lost was from exercise and not diet so I'm trying to help her with food selection, shopping, etc. My wife has lost 35 lbs and ONLY from diet; no exercise. I think my daughter will be fine if she can get a new routine going. She got away from the exercise she used to do in the late morning because she was doing some child care (infant) for a young woman at church who had elbow surgery. She did this daily for 3 months and it threw her off. We don't have anything for a prize. We just want to support each other. It's tough, as you know. I'm looking forward to seeing my buddy but I don't think we have anything in particular planned. If the weather is nice we may do a little fishing (he lives by a lake) and there may be a poker game Saturday evening at his house. Nothing big; nickel, dime, quarter. Really hit the aerobics this weekend. I find that works best for me. With any luck I'll drop another pound my Monday. We'll see. Have a great weekend and I'll be in touch Monday. Be strong!! Bert |

Hi DG, How's it going? I've been updating the spring fling chart for the past week. Did you want to post any numbers as of Monday? Are you missing a few toes?? I had a tough weekend and it was a real challenge. As of Saturday I was down 75 lbs but it looks like I gained one over Sunday. We had the family for dinner and I went a bit over board. When I weighed in Monday I was only showing 74 lbs lost. It's still a 2 lb loss from the previous week and I'm glad but it just shows how sensitive my metabolism is and how I can retain fluid or put weight on. Now for the good news. My wife and I went out to Stein Mart on Saturday. I had to buy some slacks and I'm down to a 40. When I started my weight loss I was nearly a 50. My wife insisted I get a new tie as well so I have the outfit on this morning and I've recieved several compliments. It's very gratifying. This past Friday I wore jeans to work. These too, are a 40 and one of the gals I work with said I looked pretty good in those jeans. How are you doing with your SWAT training and your new vest? I did an hour on the bike Saturday and did three sets of curls with the dumbbells. I also did a quick and hard half hour on the bike Sunday. Considering dinner with the family on Sunday, I'm glad I did. Stay in touch!! Bert |

Hey DG, Where've you been? I hope all is well. I seem to be losing my lady diet buddies. I'm getting self concious. Is it my breath? I went to see my buddy in VA this past weekend. I really tried to stay good and I suppose I did for 60 % of the time. The other 40 % was deliciously sinful though. I did notice I had a gain but it was fluid for sure as it was down when I did my official weigh in. I'll be interested to see what I'm at next Monday. I'm guessing that my system is tricked and I may show a decent loss. My wife is going to Hilton Head Island with her best friend for the weekend so I won't be tempted with a big Easter dinner. I'll work out hard this week too. Let me know how you're doing. Bert |

Hi DG, I think you're still out there. If not, I'm challenging and supporting myself. Well, I hit the 80 lb lost mark as of this morning. I went off a bit over the last month or so but that's real life. It didn't seem to hurt too badly though. I've got 20 to go to reach my goal and then I'll fine tune it. It's been an interesting ride. I hope you're doing well. Bert |

Hey Bert! Congrats on the 80# mark. I'm still behind you at 76#. Life has been crazy and I haven't been on computer much...as you know. I joined the gym about 3 weeks ago because I was walking 8 miles a day and the weight was not coming off like I was used to. Now I do body pump, body step, pilates and tai chi. Surprisingly, it is fun. Everyone is so nice and supportive. I regret not joining earlier. I had several sessions with a personal trainer. After a lot a measuring and such, she told me my ideal weight would be around 155. So that means about 39# to go. I can do it. She also told me my 10# per month goal needed to be changed to about 5# a month to be more realistic. I didn't like that but since March was the first month I didn't reach my 10# goal, I guess I understand it. What have you been up to? You seem to have been trucking right along. That's great. I find I'm having to work harder and harder but that's okay. I'm willing to do it. Talk to you soon. Apologies for my absence! Your break is over! DG |

Hey there, Good to hear from you. I'm glad everything's ok. I've been working hard at it but I went astray the weekend before Easter when visiting my buddy in VA and on Easter but I've tried to be strict since then. As you saw on the Spring Fling post, I didn't lose anything this week but I had lost 3 lbs for each of the prior weeks so I'm on track for 2 lbs per week. The good news is the size of my clothes. DG, I'm now at a 38 waist and I haven't been in the 30's for nearly 20 years. I actually had one of my co-workers tell me I looked fine as is and that I didn't need to lose anymore. I responded that she'd never seen me naked and we both had a good laugh over that. I have 20 lbs to go to hit my goal of 100 lbs and I still want to fine tune it after that. I suspect I'll end up at 175 -180 when all is said an done. It's hard to belive that I'm right at the 9 month marks since I started this journey. I know I shouldn't look at it that way as it smacks of something temporary. The journey is really going to go on for the rest of my life. Next Monday I'm having blood drawn for my physical which is the following week. I haven't seen my doctor since last April. I can't wait to see what the cholesterol, triglicerides, etc. come in at. I also ran out of blood pressure medicine around Easter and I didn't want to get another 30 day supply so I'll see where I end up there too. Stay in touch. You say my break is over but I never took one. I can't afford to since you're still right on my tail. Have a great day! Bert |

Hi, I've been out of town since Friday morning. I'll get on the scale tomorrow. I was at 81 lbs down last week and we'll see what damage I did over the weekend. I did get a workout in on Friday morning and went on a long hike in the mountains on Saturday so maybe it's not too bad. You may not have seen my quickie post on the challenge but I got the results of my blood tests this week. My cholesterol is down from 219 to 188. It should be below 200! Whoo Hoo! The HDL (good) is 55 and should be above 30 and the LDL (bad) is down from 145 to 115 and should be below 130!!! Voodoo!!!! WELCOME BACK GIRL!!! I have my ladies back!! OK, I expect you two to seriously kick my much smaller butt until I get to my goal. I'm now at a size large instead of XXX and my pants are down to a 38 waiste!!! Stay with me, gals. I love 'yas. Well, I weighed in this morning. Still the same at 209 (81 lbs down since the beginning). See my tale of woe on the challenge website. I have to get back on the horse this week and for the next 3 weeks before we go on vacation. I don't intend to really over do it but I won't have my stationary bike or weights and I have to figure out what I'm going to do regarding exercise. We're going to the mountains and we'll do some hiking but my wife hasn't been working out so she may have a little trouble and we can't make the hike too strenuous. I'll figure something out. Any suggestions??? Bert |

Hey Bert! I'll check out your woes shortly. Just popped in to tell you I finally hit 80# yesterday so I really am breathing down your neck this time. What awesome news about your health report. YOU ROCK, dude! I bet your wife is so proud of you. You've been working your arse off. Your vacation sounds like fun. Take it easy and have fun. You certainly don't have to scale the mountain in one day. How are you Voodoodoll? Back in the swing again? I hope so. Off to the challenge link now. Oh, and Bert, thanks for brushing your teeth. Just kidding. That did make me laugh though. Love your sense of humor. Keep trucking along. DG |

DG, Great news on the 80 lbs loss. Way To Go!!! I weighed in this morning but since Monday is my official day I'll let you know where I end up. If I have a good weekend I should show a decent loss. More on that Monday. I checked with the Pigeon Forge Community Center about a place for vacationers to work out and it turns out they have a full gym and I can come in for $6.50 a day and use the machines, bikes, pool, etc. If I can get a workout in the day we leave, knock off on Sunday and get at least two workouts in before we head home on Friday I should be OK. I want to stay focused but have a good time too so we'll see what happens. They have so many pancake houses there that it will be temptation mountain. Have a great weekend. Voodoo, let us know how you're doing. Bert |

Good morning Bert! Just a quick note to let you know I'll be travelling from BR to Chattanooga tomorrow with my sister in law to pick up my niece from college....long story, unpleasantries involved...like my niece doesn't know we're coming and she's being yanked back home due to some shenanigans we've been informed about. When I get to Chattanooga, I'll face east and give you a shout out. Should be about 2 p.m. Tuesday. Heading back Wednesday. It's a quick trip. I don't think I'll have time to scale any mountains. Darn it. Have a great week. Hey voodoo. How's it going, chickie? DG |

I don't think I'll hit my goal for the challenge but that's ok. As long as the scale is moving down, I'm happy. We'll see. I've been working out very hard this week and watching the food/calorie intake. I'm trying to avoid anything that would tempt me. We have vacation coming up in two weeks and I'll have all I can do to maintain, let alone lose. If I can have a good couple of weeks I'll have earned a little indulgence for vacation. Let me know how you're doing. Voodoo, keep checking in. Bert |

Hi gal, I saw your post at 188 lbs. What's the total number lost since you began? I'm at 85 gone as of this morning. Only 15 to go for the big 100. Let me know. Bert |

Hey Bert! I just wrote a note to you in the new challenge. I've got 17# to go before I hit the big 100, so once again we are neck and neck. I've lost 83# so far. Still looking at your backside since you're at 85# lost. Let's keep pushing and cross that 100# mark together...or you can drag me across...whatever works! ha. Golly, I just thought of something...between the two of us, we've lost one very large person. WOW! Trip to TN was quick and successful. Weather was beautiful. I need me some mountains down here in flat Louisiana. Keep working hard. You rock! DG |

Hi, That's terrific! Running together to make the 100 lbs mark is awesome! I don't know if you had watched the Biggest Loser this year but when Mark waited for Ali and they crossed the finish line together on one of the challenges, that was cool. You're right; 200 between us. Dang! Don't worry about the flat land. You can visit the mountains anytime. They don't have crawfish either. See you on the other side of the finish line!! Bert |

Yo Bert! I'm at 84# gone today....another 16# till the big 100, and another 20 after that to final goal. How are you? I've been busting it at the gym 2.5 -3 hours a day. Is that crazy or what? I love the body step and body pump classes. Also have my neice training me 4 times a week for an hour each session. My arse is aching today...but it's all good. What's up with you? Working hard? DG |

Hi there, I'm at 86 gone as of this morning. I worked out hard over the weekend. Saturday I did 45 minutes on the stationary bike, three sets of pushups, planks, bicep curls, flutters (on my back, legs raised 6" off ground and kick like I'm doing the back stroke) two sets of dips. Sunday I did a hard 56 minutes on the bike. I'm not feeling well this morning though. I have sinus problems and they hit last night and were killing me. I didn't get much sleep and I'm staying home from work today. I may get some working out in later if I feel up to it. You're a maniac at the gym. I'm proud of you. When we hit the 100 lb mark we'll have to send before and after shots to Peter and have him post them for us. Have a great week and stay strong. Bert |

Hey there, Just got back from vacation. We had a great time. The good news is that I was good 60% of the time regarding food. I also went on a 5 mile hike in the mountains one day and worked out at the Pigeon Forge Community Center gym for two days. I even ran three miles on the tread mill one day. The bad news is that the other 40% of the time I was bad, very bad. I gained 6 lbs so you are officially ahead of me on the weight loss. I'm back on the wagon though and got up at 4:45 am today and did 45 minutes on the stationary bike. One week does not a lifestyle make. Keep after me and help me to stay strong!! Bert |

Hey DG, Hope you're doing well. I lost the weight I gained on vacation and another lb to boot. I'm down 86 lbs as of this morning. I've been away from the computer. My wife lost her job this week so I've been working with her to help her get up to speed for the job search. We'll be fine. God loves us, He's in control and He has a plan. We're in good hands. How are you doing? Bert |

Hey DG, Where are you girl??? I hope all is well. I'm at 203 this morning, a total of 87 lbs. I was doing better but we went out to dinner last night and I think the bread, oil and wine did me in. Still a one lb loss for the week and I don't feel deprived. What's going on in BAH-TAHN- Rooge? Bert |

Hey Bert! I haven't been on computer much now that kids are out of school. I'm still at 85#. You seem to be doing well. Good to hear you lost another pound. I'm sorry about your wife's job. You are right that God will provide. He always does. You know that old saying "whenever one door closes, another opens"... it's true. I know she'll find an even better job. Why, oh why, are these last pounds so dang hard to come off? I'm working out every single day, walking/jogging, lifting weights....you name it. I think I can plank for three minutes now. Do you know a few months ago I didn't last 30 seconds before I started to shake? I give too much power to that dang scale. Baton Rouge is HOT, but not as hot as it will be in August. It feels good to go on early morning walk/jogs and sweat. This morning my daughter was driving to her volunteer job (she has her driver's permit so I was with her) and she looked at me and said, "Mom, you stink!" and laughed. I laughed too and said, "Ain't it great?" I had just finished 5 miles and dripping with sweat. I tried to tell her that her driving made me nervous but she wasn't falling for it. ha. Alright, my friend, good to hear from you. Keep in touch. I'll try to do better on that front. That 100# will be here for both of us this summer. I know it. :) DG |

Hey, Good to hear from you. Kids, Shmids; you need some computer time My wife landed a job, thank God. She was let go on a Sunday night (over the phone) and was given an offer at another practice at full hours and salary. She starts this coming Monday! Whew! Dodged that bullet! I wonder why you've Plateaud so hard? You're doing everything right. It may just be a matter of time as the increased activity will have an effect soon. You know, you might want to consider going off a couple of days regarding what you eat. Don't binge but go out for a pizza or have a Dairy Queen. Keep the exercise going and after a couple of days hit the calorie restriction again and see what happens. Maybe you just need to shock your system. I don't have any scientific proof that this works but it's worked for me in the past. You may see a slight gain but if you stay on the exercise, it may not appear. The increase in calories and then the sudden drop again may signal your body to burn more fat since you're working out hard and need the fuel. What do you think? If I don't hear from you have a great weekend. I'll weigh in again on Monday (my official day) and see where I am. I'm hopefull I'll be under the 200 mark but we have a high end wedding on Saturday. I'll have to work my butt off to account for that. Stay in touch, DG. Bert |

Yeah for the job news! My scale is down slightly...1/2 pound. Not enough to get excited about. Your advice sounds good, but I'm a little scared. I'm eating about 1500-2000 calories a day which should be plenty, considering all the exercise I'm doing. Today is a ten mile day of walking, 4 miles biking, and some ab work at the gym. Nobody can call me an exercise slacker, for sure! I'm rooting for you to be under the 200 mark this week. There's nothing like seeing that big 1. Alright, dude, keep up the good work and congrats again to your wife for her new job. You should take a celebratory jog followed by a nice big glass of iced tea...unsweetened, of course. ;) DG |

Hey DG, Only 13 to go??? We're gonna hit it together; I feel it!! First the good news. As of this morning I'm 199 lbs!!!! This is the first time in 20 years I've been under 200! Now the bad news. That job for my wife didn't work out. The guy turned out to be a nut case. She was on the job 2 days and he told her it wasn't going to work. He said he needed someone with the experience to work in certain software. She told him up front that she didn't have the experience and he said it wouldn't be a problem and that she'd catch on quicly. She was, in fact, doing just that as she has ample experience with another, similar package. We also learned that the one she replaced was only their for a few days as was the gal before her. There were two other ladies at the front desk besides my wife. One turned in her resignation last Monday and last Wednesday was her last day. The other was only there a month and my wife said she's really frazzled. Additionally, the guy is obsessive/compulsive and goes out to the waiting room and spends a lot of time straightening chairs, on his hands and needs cleaning litte marks on the carpet, etc. You get the picture. Overall I guess it's good to be out of there but we're back to square one. I'm not worried though. I believe that God has a plan for all of us, that He's in control and that He loves us. We'll be fine. Nothing much else is going on. My buddy in VA. is coming for a visit in a couple of weeks. This is the guy I went to see in March. It will be good to see him. Enjoy the summer and please stay in touch. Let's hit it hard to get to the 100 loss mark!! Bert |

Hey! As usual, I'm looking at your hinny. I'm at 182, so that's 12 to go for me. You're in the single digits now.......WOW! I'm so happy for you. That must be an awesome feeling. I bet you can just taste it...low fat, of course. Sounds like your wife was lucky to get out of her job when she did. The world is full of whack jobs...she doesn't need to work for one. Ick. Glad your buddy is coming to visit soon. One of my best friends in the whole world lives in Switzerland and is coming to visit her mom (who lives in BR) in July so I'll get to see her. We get to visit about once a year. And I'm saving my pennies for a trip to Switzerland in 2010, when four of us who have been friends since high school turn 50. One of the other girls lives in BR, and the last in Texas. I can't wait. And my friend, who I haven't seen since September, has been begging me to send her a picture of the new me. I told her she would have to wait to see me in person. She claims I'm torturing her, but I want to see the look on her face in person. One day, maybe when I hit 100?, I'll post pics here. Have you considered doing so? Have a great day. Keep in touch. And definitely keep up the good work. I can hear the party horns already for the big 100. You rock! :) DG |

Hey there. Don't torture your friend too much. She might retaliate and bring you Swiss Chocolate. She'll be surprised all right. You'll hit the 100 very soon. I'm excited about getting there. As of this morning (not my official weigh in) I was at 198, only 8 away. Please keep me in your prayers. I know it sounds silly as this is a lifestyle change and I'll be working on it for the rest of my life but I really want to hit this goal and the shorter term the better. If the site is still up when I hit the 100 mark I was planning on sending pics to Peter to see if he can post them. I'm not being boastful and I know it may sound trite but if I can do it, anyone can. All it takes is focus, planning and determination. Heck; why am I telling you. You know what it takes. Thanks for the well wishes for my wife. It's frustrating but we'll make it. Have a great day and stay in touch!! Bert |

I expect to get on the scale Friday and see at least a two pound loss. I don't know if I can catch up with you but I'm gonna keep trying. Off for a 5 mile walk/jog. Gonna jog more than usual to celebrate your accomplishment and to try to catch up! You rock, Bert! :) DG PS- I joined Nir's challenge. Glad to see you there too. Hey pal, Well, I just posted. Still at 197. I have 7 to go and it's getting tougher. I won't give up though. One thing I've noticed is that, since I'm increasing my strength training, my clothes are still getting looser even thought the scale isn't moving as quickly. True, I wasn't really, really good over the 4th weekend but I didn't gain anything either. I suspect it's a combination of things such as going off for a day, some increased muscle and working out harder. Over the weekend my workouts were: Sat-30 hard minutes on the bike and upper body strength training. Sunday, Monday and Tues, a hard hour on the bike. I'll hit the strength training again tomorrow. I'm still kind of sore but I have to hit it anyway. This coming weekend my buddy from VA is coming for a visit. I won't be able to get a workout in Saturday or Sunday (maybe Sunday pm) and I'll have to try and stay as good as I can food wise. It will be tough. I'm so close to the 100 lb lost mark that I'm almost obsessing. I don't want to do anything drastic because I'll shoot back up again after I go back to the routine. Slow and steady wins the race and now the discipline is to keep on track and not upset things. You're shooting for 15 lbs I see. Good for you. Aim as high as you can. Will you send pics before and after you hit the 100 lb mark? I'm going to. I'm also preparing a PP presentation that I'm going to send to friends who haven't seen me in a while. Real short but fun. I'm trying to figure out how to change an MP3 to a WAV so I can add some music to the presentation. Any idea how to do that? Stay in touch!! Bert |

And the scale gods decide to shine on me....about dang time! ha. Yes, I'll post pics. As far as your presentation, I can't help you but would suggest you get a teenager...they know all that stuff. IN THE 90S!!!! Way to go. I'm at 93 down. We're gonna do this!!! I know it!! I'm all set on the presentation. I'm just waiting for the final photo to be taken when I hit the 100 mark. I'll put on my pants that I wore when I began. Once I figure out how to add the music I'm golden. My buddy gets in Friday. It's gonna be tough. I'll probably have one pina collada and one piece of B-day cake for him. Other than that I should be able to stay on track. See you at the finish line, hotty!!! Bert |

Hey girl, It's been a while. I hope you're doing well. I have good news and bad news. The bad news is that my buddy from VA came for a visit last weekend and I went way off. Gained 6 lbs!! Yo Bert! Just checking in. Been working hard...avg 3 hrs a day...sometimes more. I'm at 94# gone....so 6 more to the big 100. My goal is still Aug. 1. It's going to be tough. I still have 20 more after that. I'm giving myself till Dec. 2 for that....my birthday. So we seem to be neck and neck since you partied hardy with your buddy. Glad you had fun. You'll have those few off way before the end of August. The finish line is in sight.....keep working hard. We're strong, we're determined! |

Hey gal, You bet, we're strong and determined! I'm at 195 this morning, that's 95 gone. We are kicking arse and taking names. Let's finish this!!! We can do it. I strained something in my neck Saturday while lifting weights. It's not too bad but I have to be careful not to aggravate it. I did the bike Sunday and this morning for an hour each day. I'll hit the weights on Wednesday again. I won't lose 5 this week but I'll be happy with 2. We'll see. You have 20 more you want? I'm not sure how much more I'll lose as I'm gaining some muscle too and that will actually add weight. Better that than fat. Maybe another 10 - 15 for me. We'll see. Stay strong. We are going to do this!! Bert |

Hey DG, You are doing fantastically well!!! 95 lbs.!!!!! I was good over the weekend with the exception of Saturday night. We went to a BBQ at a buddies house. The calories for the overall weekend and the hard exercise still netted me a pound loss on the week. I'm at 96 down! 4 to go!!! Girl, we are gonna cross this line together. I'm putting a very short PP presentation together to show my before and after. I'll send it to you on the other address when I hit it. I'm sure, barring any complications, I should hit it in one or two weeks. You too!!! Let's nail this!!! Bert |

Hey DG, Happy Monday! Where've you been? Are you having success? I had a good week. Two more lbs. down for a weigh in of 192. That's 98 down! Two more to go. I had a better chance as I was down to 191 as of Sunday morning but we went out Sunday evening for dinner and although I was extremely good, there's still too much salt in restaurant food and I'm holding water. I'm just one of the girls. I hit the bike hard for an hour this morning and I'm going to focus on cardio this whole week and back off the strength training just so I can burn as much as possible to cross that line. If I'm right about the water, I should lose that one lb. and lose the other by next Monday or maybe even later this week. I'm going to send you something when I hit it to your other email so be on the lookout! Let me know how you're doing. Bert Last edited on 4 August 2008 01:54 pm by pbf4326e |

Psssssssssst. I did it. Can you believe it? I flipping did it. Lost 100# in one year, two weeks and one day. Allelulia. I'm now 170. I will have to dig up an old pic and get a new one taken. I did show my Sam's Warehouse card to someone at the gym the other day who said "I can't imagine you fat." When she saw it, she said, "Oh S&^T!!!" I just laughed and said, "told you!" 102!!! That's great!! I'm at 102 today as well. We'll see what the weekend brings. My wife just lost her new job. Things are really tough and the environment she was in was very toxic. Hey DG, I just got back in the office and got your note. Thank God you're all ok. Here's something uplifting. Our granddaughter was born on 9/11 at 12:38 AM. Her name is Evelyn Clair and she's 8 lbs 11 oz and 19 3/4 inches. She's a sweety. Now we have something to celebrate every 9/11. God is good. Also, my wife got a job and starts Monday!! How's all this for uplifting??!!!! I know what you mean. Things have been crazy at our house too. Emotional roller coaster for sure. I've been eating on the run and not getting all my exercise. I'm up a bit but you know what, I don't care. This is a lifetime change and I got back on the horse (stationary bike, actually) and road that sucker for an hour this morning. I'll hit it over the weekend too. Stay strong. You've got what it takes!!! Love 'ya, Bert |

I've beaten myself up over it and now I'm back on the wagon. I did so well and barely even stumbled for a year...I guess it was inevitable. Dang, dang, dang. Pity party over....heck yeah, it's over, there's no more dang food in the house. I ate it all. Ah..if you can't laugh..... Thanks for your good news. Kick my butt, Bert. Kick it hard. DG |

Hey DG, Thanks for the words about little Evey. She is a cutie it I say so myself. Don't feel bad. I was down to 189 and went to 193 due to our weekend away last weekend and I'm down to 190 again today. I guess that's maintaining. I still want to get to a 34 waist though. I'll try to be good this weekend. I'll get there but I don't know what the weight will be. Then the real maintenance begins. Have a great day and hang in there. Bert |

Hey DG, Just checking in. I've started to run again. I haven't done that in 20 years. I started slowly on Sunday and only did 2 1/3rd miles and walked a third. I was surprised after a year on the stationary bike that my thighs hurt like H$ll. I laid off it for two days (although I did hit the bike again) and jogged again yesterday. I went a tad further. I'm happy to say that the pain has subsided a lot. I'll give it a go tomorrow. Take care and let me know how you're doing. Bert |

hey DG, How goes it? I'm up to 4 miles at a time on the jogging. I'm not worrying about the weight right now but focusing on my waist line and trying to get to a 34. I'm nearly there. Let me know how you're doing. Bert |

Hey DG, long time no read! How are you? I'm still hitting it! I'm about to complete my 60th day with the P90X workout program. It's a real butt kicker but I'm loving it and seeing results. Let me know how you are and how things are in Bah-Tahn -Rooge. Bert |

Well, DG, I guess you don't love me anymore. I thought I'd try you one last time to see how you're doing. I miss my buddy from BAH-TAHN-ROOGE. Hope you're doing well. Love & Kisses, Bert |
