Jodice - DD= Dear Daughter and DH= Dear Husband.  You can just be on whatever team is finishing their cycle around the same time you are ending yours.  So if you end your cycle on or around this coming Thursday, you are an FFF.  If you don't end until next week, then you are an SV.

I just had my sandwich an hour ago for breakfast. I made it with 4 oz of roast beef and 4oz of turkey with romaine lettuce and dijon mustard on honey oat bran bread.

I think this will help get through fruit day since this is my largest meal.

YUM Omayra! Do you find it easier to eat your sandwich earlier in the day as opposed to later in the day? I normally keep mine for dinner, something to look fwd to during fruit day, but it can get painful. What have your experience with that been??

Webfairy- Thanks for info... and I will be ending next Thursday so I'm with the SV's. I lost 5.5 last week and gained 3 back from cheat days. so what's that, a net loss of 2.5 pounds?

All this talk about sandwiches is making me HUNGRYYYY :chewing:[

Jodice, having my sandwich as my first meal works great for me. With my busy schedule, I need something substantial and having my sandwich for breakfast gives me that fuel that I need to get me going throughout the day without feeling cranky or ravenously hungry. If I have to be out of the house a lot on fruit days, that keeps any temptation to deviate at bay.

I read the book "The Reverse Diet" by Tricia Cunningham and even though I don't eat the carbs listed on that menu, I apply the concept to FL4I which is basically to have your largest meal earlier in the day rather than in the late evenings.

Day 2 - Fruit day.

I woke up hungry this morning. Since I am on antibiotics I started the day with some liquid probiotic yogurt and an apple. The porbiotic stuff really works! I am now a fan! Am saving the sandwich for tonight so I don't get the late night munchies. :chewing:

Thanks Sunshine! I will take your advise and pack some munchies -- especially for the meeting on Friday. They typically have food at these things -- but it's usually cookies or donuts. If I have my fruit and nuts I can stay away from the junk. Hopefully, they will have lots of water for me sip on.

A new U Swirl yogurt shop opened in Reno! Yum! The yogurt is more tart than creamy. I made my DH stop on our way home from the doctor's office on Thursday -- now I am planning a return visit. For those who have a Costco store nearby, they also have softserve fro yo -- granted, they give you a fairly large serving... but believe it or not, I have been known to eat what I want and then THROW THE REST AWAY. Shocking, I know.

Speaking of fro yo... I typically write out my daily menu on a note pad and stick it on the fridge as a daily reminder... my daughter was over at our house one evening and was looking over my menu. She gasped, then blurted out, "Frogs! You eat frogs on this diet?!" I laughed and said I didn't think my handwriting was that bad, but it doesn't say frogs, it says fro yo.   She then dug into our freezer to eat up the rest of my fro yo. Kids. Gotta love em.

Thanks for the advice Sunshine:sun:! I will buy some yogurt tomorrow. Wouldn't this affect my weight loss results tho? Should I just have 1 yogurt a day?

On my next menu I wont pick Tuna or Deli meats, however , I had them too often on this 2 cycles & I get bored easily. I hope my doctor does not prescribe this pills again! 30 days have been torture! but I haven't really been feeling as awful till 2 weeks ago.:crying:

DK...you could buy a big container  or buy some individual containers....the most important thing is that it a health food store brand as most regular processed yogurts start with live cultures but then heat them and the cultures are no longer alive even though it may say "live cultures" on the label.
As far as weight loss....getting you healthy again is very important!!  Some yogurt should not be a big problem....but you could always buy the low fat unsweetened.
Sunshine:sun:

Teri/Changes...what kind of yogurt did you use to treat your antibiotic "problem"?

Sunshine, I bought Glen Oak Farms drinkable yogurt that was in the dairy section of the supermarket. http://www.glenoaksyogurt.com/  It may not be the best yogurt for this diet, but it is working on my "other" problem.:nono:

SO HAPPY fruit day is over and although I was not supposed to I did weigh myself and thought I lost like 5 pounds considering how hungry I was..Only lost .4...for those who do weigh after fruit day do you usually loose a lot?  Last cylce I lost .8....I just thought you loose more after such a torturous day!

Question about nuts...can we eat ALL Natural PB instead?  I have not looked at any labels but thought that might be a fun change...anyone ever do that?

Happy NON FRUIT DAY!  LOL

Happy NON FRUIT DAY to you too REEL   I'm so glad that day is over with! I too had to weigh in after fruit day b/c I felt so much smaller and now fit into a size smaller jean and I was HAPPY about the results!

And that all natural peanut butter sounds awesome :yum:, but I don't know if it's a good idea to switch to that since the plan didn't call for BUT you try it and let me know how it works ;)  I'll do it if it works.. hehe

Jodice, reeldreamr,

I've personally subbed PB for peanuts on this diet and I still lost weight. However, I might have lost more had I eaten regular peanuts instead but I was happy that I was losing weight consistently. If you really want PB, I suggest trying it once to see how it affects your losses.

I think I'm going to cut the DG to 10 days this month cause this time, day 11 falls on a Friday and I have plans for the 13th and my husband will most likely be back for R&R during that time frame and I want to spend my weekends with him without obsessing over what I eat.

One of my meals is a combo of garden salad, chicken, and cheese. Last night, I marinated some chicken in BBQ sauce and seasoning so I could make BBQ Chicken ranch salad today.

Low cal Italian dressing is about 70 calories and light ranch dressing is just 10 calories more. I'm going to combine some of that dressing with an equal amount of BBQ sauce and dress my salad with it. I'm going to top it with shredded cheddar cheese.

About 7 years ago TGI Fridays served a BBQ Chicken Ranch Salad and that gave me the idea for today. I googled the recipe for the dressing and it's basically 3 parts ranch dressing and 2 parts BBQ sauce.

If the results are as good as I expect, I'm posting this on the recipe thread.

Cool, thanks Omayra!

And I will be doing only 10 days (DG) on my 3rd cycle b/c the 11th day will be falling on TURKEY DAY :) And Heaven knows, I will NOT be doing any type of diet on that day :pig:

Jodice,

All you gotta do is hit the back button several times after you picked your foods and you'll get something descent. That's what I did to get the menu I wanted. I like getting oatmeal/fruit salad, fro-yo/fruit salad, oatmeal/apples, and bacon/scrambled eggs so I hit the back button several times so I can get those combos at least once.

Is it OK to add milk to coffee, as long as it's 10 calories worth of milk? Has anybody tried that before?

BTW--Dreamr and Jodice, I have never lost a stellar amount of weight on fruit day either. For me, it's just like the other days.

I don't gain weight on veggie day either. I know that some people do. It's just like any other day on the diet for me. I guess everyone is different!

Missy, just add milk to your DG menu and add as much as you want to coffee. I posted an iced coffee recipe on the recipe thread.

Just my two cents on the peanut butter... I don't recommend it.  Most peanut butter has sugar and oils which will thwart your losses.  Even some "natural" brands still have some sugar (molasses, etc) and oils.  The Adams brand is 99% peanuts and 1% salt which sounds fine, but still, you could easily eat more peanut butter than you should.  So if you choose to do this, be aware you may not lose.  I used to wait until cheat days as peanut butter is one of my favorite things.  If you REALLY want to lose, stick to the allowed foods on the diet and save the rest for your cheat days.

Yes, I am definitely into making lattes with my milk. What about the days when we don't have milk on the menu? I guess that's what my question was really about.

If it's 10 calories worth of milk it's ok. I personally would do without when milk isn't on the menu because 10 calories worth of milk or creamer aren't enough for me.

I know I mentioned this months ago, but some stores have the machines filled with different types of nuts and they grind them right there.  You just pull the lever (like at the froyo shops) and out comes the gooey nut butter.  There is almond, cashew, peanut, etc.  It is really delicious and there is nothing added... no sugar, oil, nothing!  I think that is probably the healthiest form.  And when I mentioned the Adams peanut butter, it is the Adams Natural I was talking about.  I always read labels on anything I buy anymore.  It's a good habit to get into.   Everyday I listen to Martha Stewart satellite radio in my truck on the way to work, and today there was this lady on the Whole Living program who just wrote a book on nutrition.  She was saying, when she goes shopping with her daughter and her daughter picks up something off the shelf at the grocery store that she wants, she has her read the ingredients.  If her daughter can't pronounce them, then she doesn't get it! LOL:tongue::tongue:

Webfairy, I saw that Adams PB you mentioned and I bought it. Wow, there's no oils in it! I saw the ingredients and it just said "peanuts". I think that's a risk I'm willing to take cause during my TOM I get cravings for all sorts of comfort food and that PB will be like a lesser evil.

Omayra...your salad really sounds like a great recipe...I can hardly wait to try it! Thanks for coming up with so many wonderful ideas!!!

Sweet...have you considered having a second opinion on your anemia?  There can be underlying problems which can be successfully dealt with....some are a B12 deficiency, ulcer, kidney or thyroid, etc etc.  There must be an underlying reason for this and I am concerned for you....this IS a healthy diet full of iron....so something else is going on.  I hate to see you have to live with being tired or overweight because that is not healthy either.  Anyway...sure hope a new doctor can get to the bottom of this and resolve the root cause in you and your family for anemia.

This is not my first run in with anemia. I don't absorb iron well and anytime I diet for any length of time my iron goes ro low. I am going to try a b-12/folic acid/iron combo for awhile.

Missy
My fatigue is from anemia, its not my only symptom, I also have extreme sensitivity to cold, light headedness, tingling in hands and feet and bright watery blood.
I think the carbs fatigue should pass after a few days, possibly you are not eating enough?

For some good health news, I took my health fair blood work up (from mid-October) to my doctor appoint last Thursday. She checked it out, then started looking up what cholesteral reducing meds I was on -- my total is within the normal range as is my HDL  for the first time in years -- I smiled and said, no, I did it all myself without meds. My LDL is still a bit high, which means cutting down on the bacon and upping my fish oil.

You're welcome Sunshine! I was just tired of Italian dressing with my salad, and I never really liked ranch dressing and then I thought about the BBQ ranch salad at TGI Fridays (i've never tried it) and decided to give it a shot at my own take. The 10 rules diet specified low-cal Italian but the DG only says low-cal dressing. That's the best salad I've ever had so far.

Sweet - I can only speak for myself, but I felt great, and had more energy on this diet than I had before the diet.  All the proteins really were a benefit.  Obviously there are other health issues going on with you, and I agree with Sunshine on trying to get to the source.  Have you tried supplementing your diet with iron?  Does that keep you stable?

Changes - Good news on the cholesterol.  The same thing happened to me in September.  My cholesterol has gone down considerably and so my doc emailed me and said it looks good, but to continue on the cholesterol meds.  He forgot I went off them months ago!  So I am hanging in there and trying to do it myself. We will see what happens in December when I get tested again.

Combogirl - Yay!  That is a great minimal gain for CDs.  That keeps everything within reach.  Good job!  As far as Thanksgiving and Christmas goes... we all do whatever works best for us.  Some of us take a break from the diet during those days, and some of us just modify our menu that day. Personally, I feel these holidays only come once a year, so I would choose to take them off, and enjoy, although not use them for an excuse to :pig: PIG out.  You can rededicate yourself back to the diet after.  That is just my opinion.

REEL I need to be slapped too.. I have a weigh-in problem!  Is there 'weigh-in annonymous' on this fourm ;-)  I even had a nice long hard talk with myself about how I was going to bypass the scale on the way to the shower this morning.. DIDn't work! But I am pleased to say I lost a pound (4 pounds since Monday)  Okay, I won't weigh in tomorrow, I promise! (maybe)

As for the holidays.. I plan to do DG for 10 days, making Thanksgiving the start of my cheat day and possbile start the diet on the following Sunday instead of Monday :) OR just have 4 darn cheat days and live at the gym.. hehe

Reel and all Newbies...it is normal for weight to fluctuate day to day....NORMAL!!  Water retention, food in the gut, hormonal changes etc etc.....BUT...IF YOU ARE CHEATING at all then gain can be for another reason....so you have to ask yourself the hard questions.  If you are staying true to the plan....then I would recommend weighing on day 1 and day12...that way the normal fluctuations won't derail you. Give your scale to a friend to keep for you until the end of the cycle if you must.  It is crazy to have "good days" and "bad days" based on the number on the scale....you need to be happy to keep cortisol levels down so you can lose well....scale anxiety can actually raise cortisol levels and make losing more difficult!
Just my 2 cents!

I am in complete agreement with Sunshine.  Great advice!  I was one of the guilty ones, forever letting my daily scale affect me mentally.  Although most of the time it was a good thing (I lost) there were days were I didn't or even gained (especially on maintenance) and that would bum me out so much.  It is so crazy ridiculous to do that, due to our body's fluctuations as Sunshine explained.  It is NOT an accurate representation of our "real" weight.  So why punish yourself by weighing everyday?  Why take the chance on discouraging yourself because it appears that you have gained? Sure, some of us may "need" that to keep encouraged.  But for many, it can throw us off, and we can give up before they give the diet a fair chance.  The diet works.  There is no doubt.  But when we start tweaking it, and adding in foods that are not recommended, then we are the ones that are making it fail.  So if you want to lose, it's easy.  Follow the diet as outlined, don't cheat, don't put yourself in situations where you can sabotage yourself (and everyday weighing can fall into this category!) and keep a positive attitude that you ARE losing and you WILL get to your goal.

Reel...good for you!!!!  Sometimes even a positive loss can make us feel like we can "cheat a little" so you are doing the right thing!!!  Yes, you can substitute another protein when you need to.

Web...well said.  I used to be "emotionally" controlled by the numbers on my scale...bad days:thumbsdown: made me feel down so I ate to feel better....it was a vicious cycle...sometimes if my weight was low I rewarded myself with treats....the scale is just one gauge of healthy weight.  I think eating healthy:thumbsup: is soooo important as there are unhealthy thin people who starve themselves or eat weird stuff to get slim.  And my favorite  sign of loss is wearing a smaller size....that IS an accurate gauge that you are losing in the right places.  I found that my size loss exceeded my pound loss on this plan...I am actually smaller at a higher weight than I was before!   Slimmer and stronger!

What a :heart:GREAT BUNCH OF LOSERS:heart: we are...lol!!!  Being called a LOSER is a compliment I enjoy now!!

I think I'm going to take a break from the diet for a while. I've been doing it about a month and a half and I've lost 5 pounds or so, which is good enough for now. I was in my ideal weight range to begin with. Also, I'm in my last semester of law school, and it's getting down to finals here pretty soon, so dieting isn't my first priority at this point. I'll be back.

Happy losing everyone!

I eat turkey bacon. Its much lower in fat and tastes really good. Thats one of my favorite foods on this diet. I could eat it every day...

I am not blaming this diet for my low iron and I am planning a new regimine of supplements. Im going to give that a month before I make any decisions regarding the diet. I know what the root of the problem is, My mom, my sister and I all have a absorbtion problem. I started taking the digestive enzymes this past weekend and I am hoping that will help to, although I did have a gain of two lbs the following days. Thankfully I was able to work it back off and for now I will keep trucking on with my cycle.

For this cycle, I've been getting a combo of roast beef and scrambled eggs. I bought some tenderloin steaks and I'm having some steak and eggs for breakfast. Yum!

I'm glad I choose milk on my menu because when I wake up early tpo drop my daughter at preschool, I dont have much time to cook breakfast for myself so that's when I make my iced coffee.

Good Evening everyone!! Sorry.. have been MIA for a few days as still feeling really low with this cold! :nono:  anyway, just weighed myself as I dont feel as though anything is happening so far this cycle and I am right.. i am only down 1.5lbs from Monday, which if you take into account the 1lb i put on at CD's means i am only really down 0.5lbs this week so far!! how can that be.. i have been sticking to my menu rigidly... could it be the cold medicine that i am taking?  Also, I started taking Metamucil at night, as I find this diet really makes me 'constipated'!!  Could the Metamucil be affecting my weight loss... if so.. does anyone have any better ideas?

I am not going to weigh again till next Friday, but I really wanted to lose a good 5 or 6 lbs this time to take me into the 150's and now i really doubt that can happen!!
