This is a very personal topic for me.

Horrible toes grow in my family. I have always had nail fungus on my big toe (on the right foot), I noticed that my mum has it, my grandma and my great grandma (god rest her soul) had it, ON THE SAME TOE!!!

well it´s been a battle, I got it tested in the hospital and was put on 6 months of drugs which made me feel sick and didn´t cure it.

I tried a topical solution which didn´t work and filing it right down, nothing works.

If I paint over it it just looks stupid cos its crusty looking.

I´ve been searching remedies on the internet and people say that if you apply it for 6 months viks vapour rub will cure it and others say tee tree oil. If it will work I dont care how long it takes.

Has anybody tried anything that actually works? I´d love to hear your success stories (and then copy them!xdd).

Like you I tried a topical solution (cream for athlete foot) and it did not work.

I had the drug dispensed at the pharmacy but then did not take it because the leaflet suggested liver and kidney damage was a possibility and at the end of the day this is just a cosmetic matter.

I have also read about the idea of filing it down and then applying bleach to it - either using a 'dropper' or a daily soak in bleach (diluted to some degree) in a bucket (promptly washed off with regular water afterwards to avoid too much reaction). (if you are going to try this make sure to read some more about this) One day I might go for that but again this is just a cosmetic issue so I have not been in a hurry to try this either

yep this is a really drag when it comes to showing off your new sandals!

the bleach method i heared can give you cancer, but then again there are loads of different treatments on the internet but nothing seems to work.

soaking your feet in the sea seems to help and filling it down too, also using rubbing alcohol or something to keep the area very clean.

I dont wear nail polish because it just looks stupid as the nail is flacky and un-even.

I do feel a bit stupid using vapor rub on it but I´ll try it out just to see if it works.

Interestingly when just searching for a cancer bleach connection I found this report in the opposite direction:

Someone in our office, said their sister's podiatrist said to use tea tree oil.

Years ago, I'd read to soak it in Listerine mouthwash..........I did that for quite a while, and it got better.   However, a few years later it was back.....probably reinfected it from a pair of shoes or something.

Then I used Zeta-Clear.......a product I ordered online.  That worked well for me.  but, again, a couple of years later it came back.   Then I ordered something cheaper online, but it didn't work at all.

Right now, I use an anti-fungal cream from a company called Melaleuca.......many of their products contain tea tree oil, so maybe that's why it's looking better?   I've only been using it a couple of months.

I'm sure I've read other websites, that say you need to use whatever for at least 6 months, until the new nail is completely grown out.

A few years back I had both of my large toenails get fungus. I tried covering them up with nail polish, I tried over the counter treatments, even applied vick vapor rub for several weeks, nothing worked.

Then one day I heard Dr. Oz speak of yeast in our bodies. It is natural but can have an overgrowth, causing a series of symptoms. Candida yeast infections for women was the topic but he just briefly mentioned it can cause nail fungus.

Now, as I said, I tried everything. I even got the prescription from the doc, where they have to test your liver as it is so strong. I could not stomach the medication and honestly? well, it scared me to take the medicine.

So I thought I would try to do what Dr. Oz said. He had commented that this yeast that naturally grows in your body sometimes blooms in your intestines. It is fed by high carbs and sugar. Also said that fiber helps to remove it. So I started watching my diet. Mind you I wasn't on a diet. I just lessened the sugar intake some. And admittingly the side effects of having fiber, caused another complication with gas. But I hung in there.

I also cut the nails down as far as I could cut them. As they were really not attached to my nail bed. So I had this tiny bit of nail growing from each toe, right at the cuticle.

Two weeks went by and I wasn't sure but it looked like I had pink nail coming out. And to may amazement as time went by, I had an entire nail of normal pink toe nail.

They were almost grown out completely and I just did not eat my fiber bar for a week or so. And to my disatisfaction, one of the nails turned white from the cuticle. So I quickly started up the fiber bar and the pink showed up a few weeks later. I basically had this small line of white nail growing out. Since then they have been pink and normal.

So? I believe with a check on your carbs, sugar intake and making sure you get fiber it is very possible that the fix is not what you apply on the outside but what you put in the inside.

I couldn't find Dr. Oz's comments but have attached another site that discusses it.

All I can say is it is worth a try. As seriously the oils, lotions, rubs, meds, etc. didn't work for me.

thanks for your comments guys.
well I´m quite frustrated, i´ve been putting olive oil on my toes and after applying tea tree oil, the nail looks better after applying this but the next day it´s back to having a yellow crumply effect. I´ll keep on doing it, i´ve been doing it for about 3 weeks now every morning and every night.

if anybody comes across anymore info please let me know, I´m thinking that I will never have nice toenails
