Anyone using planks as a part of their routine? After a lot of investigating for the best exercise for the mid section; this one popped up a lot as being superior to situps and all that nonsense. I'm happy I found out, because I love planks, they are easier to do CORRECTLY, apposed to situps where it's easy to get caught up in a head jerking motion etc. I'm hoping they are as effective as everyone claims, anyone have experience with this?
Most video's and recommendations I've heard say hold it for 45 seconds. I can hold it longer which sometimes makes me think it isn't as effective, but I probably just have a strong stomach (now just getting that fat off there so you can see it) :)

| Hold it for a couple of minutes. Check in the mirror that your body isn't 'arching' but on the other hand that your butt isn't sticking up. Use variations to keep it interesting and challenging, for example instead of resting on your forearms with the elbows bent at 90 degrees, extend your arms with your hands directly under your shoulders, lift up one leg etc.

You don't necessarily have to hold the same plank position longer. Just make the exercise harder. :)
There are some plank variations that you can try such as alternating lifting one leg up for a few seconds. Or move your elbows near your head instead of below your shoulders.
Good luck!~
