Of all the times i've tried to lose weight the best results came when my doctor put me on phentermine twice a day and I lost 16 lbs the first month.  So it really works and doesn't cost a lot if you have drug coverage on your insurance.  You don't feel hungry but you don't feel run down either.  Haven't had any bad side effects and your doctor will put you on it if you are overweight because the benefits of the drug outweigh the cons of being overweight.  HTH

In the United States, it is classified as a Schedule IV controlled substance under the Controlled Substances Act. The reason you don't feel hungry and don't feel run down is because it is an amphetamine

  • Nervousness
  • Sense of well-being
  • Dry mouth
  • Unpleasant taste
  • Blurred vision
  • Heartburn/Acid reflux
  • Change in sexual desire
  • Clumsiness
  • Confusion
  • Diarrhea
  • Dizziness
  • Headache
  • Irregular heartbeat
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Psychosis
  • Skin rash or itching
  • Stomach pain
  • Tiredness
Less common side effects
  • Convulsions (seizures)
  • Dizziness
  • Fever
  • Hallucinations
  • Hostility with urge to attack
  • Irregular blood pressure
  • Light headedness or fainting
  • Mental depression, following a period of excitement
  • Tremors, trembling or shaking
  • Overactive reflexes
  • Panic
  • Restlessness
  • Severe nausea, vomiting or diarrhea
  • Stomach cramps
  • Tiredness or weakness
I don't get why someone would want take anything with that many possible side SCARY effects. If you put your mind to it the old fashion way of D&E really works the best. Seriously I would rather be fat then take that junk

Because all those side effects are what has been recorded of what someone could have but the actual chances of someone having them are slim.  Even simple drugs like Tylenol can cause side effects (taking too much can effect the liver).  The point is that being overweight is more dangerous than the drug itself.  As to why would someone take it?  The benefits outweigh the risks.  Plus some of those side effects can be avoided.....like insomnia - don't take it late of evening - take it once in the morning an hour before breakfast and an  hour before lunch and no later.  I mean if you just have 10 lbs to lose then no you don't need to take a med for that but if you are morbidly obese (>75 lbs overweight or 39.9 or greater using body measurement of fat) the drug can help.  Obesity is a medical condition just like any other.  Would you tell someone not to take medicine for high blood pressure?  That can kill you as well and the med causes side effects.  Also phentermine isn't a quick fix.  You are suppose to diet and exercise with it.  If you can lose 100 lbs with just diet and exercise...more power to you but everyone who has ever dieted knows when you get closer and closer to your goal it gets harder and harder to lose the weight no matter how healthy your diet is or how much you exercise.  If you don't feel the need to use a med to lose weight great but it was prescribed to me because I have health issues and my weight isn't helping me.  Just please don't judge others for needing something to help them along.

I just started using the phentermine and HCG shots. I know lots of people who have really lost a lot of weight using this and hopefully it will work for me. I have no will power when it comes to food. I've only been taking it for 2 days, but i can already see a decrease in my appitate. Wish me luck.

I've been taking Phentermine for the last 3 months and have lost 42 lbs so far! At first it made me slightly jittery but after about a week, that stopped. The only annoying side effect is that i have trouble sleeping.
As far as eating, it definately suppresses my appetite quite well. I eat a lot less at each meal and don't have as many cravings as i did before (mainly for carbs).
Yes it is a prescribed drug but many doctors including mine would not give it to me even though my BMI was in the obese range. I got an online source from another forum and am very satisfied to date.

I am curious--most of the diet pills seem to be stimulants, amphetamines like Hellrazor said or that apidexin that is described as "legal cocaine," so I am wondering how long one can safely take the pills for?  I can't imagine they are suitable for long-term use...

Phentermine is also ringing a bell for me, was that one of the main ingredients in Fen-Phen?  I do remember that a while back, probably about 15 years ago now, a lot of people lost weight like crazy on it but then it also caused deaths due to heart attacks so they pulled Fen-Phen off the market (at least in the US, I don't know what they did elsewhere...)

Did your doctor give a reason why they refused to provide you with this substance?

Phentermine is not phen-fen.
My doctor pretty much just said that there is no reason to prescribe a pill when all i need to do is exercise and diet :nono:. I tried explaining that i've tried real hard but nothing helps. I just needed something to get me past the hurdle and get me started.

I knew about Phentermine because a few years back when i joined a weight loss clinic, that is what the doctor there prescribed for me. Unfortunately, i just couldn't afford it anymore and i found out that i could get it online. That was then. Now the FDA is coming down on internet sources that sell prescribed meds so it's hard to find.
Thanks to another forum, i found a source and have been losing weight.

Okay, I did a bit of research over at wikipedia, and it appears that Phentermine was indeed the "Phen" in "Fen-Phen" (the "Fen" part being fenfluramine) and the combination of these two drugs together produced the effect of heart valve damage.  So, the FDA pulled fenfluramine off the market but allowed phentermine to remain.  This was around 1997.  Interesting.

Also, I was able to find the question about how long someone should take phentermine for, and it appears that it is for "short term use," which was what I had guessed, which is generally accepted as meaning up to 12 weeks or for three months.

It is a Schedule IV drug, as Hellrazor pointed out, but I am not sure what Schedule IV means.  I am presuming that means you need a prescription to legally possess it?  But I am not sure... I need to do more research.

I decided to use Phentermine to get me over the hurdle for awhile.

I lost 72lbs on Atkins almost two years ago and gained almost all of it back. I will be following Dr. Atkins eating plan on phentermine.

phenexpress.com - GS Labs, Inc.

Do not be fooled and do not waste your money. GS Labs at phenexpress.com is a scam...the site does everything to get you to think that you are buying phentermine, but it is really their own proprietary, worthless "dietary supplement." Customer Service is non-existent. The customer service number that is listed is disconnected. No replies to any of my emails. Worst of all...no refunds allowed.:angry::angry:

I was prescibed Phentermine 37.5mg  after I gave birth to my first son in 2000. Along with Phentermine I also also took Slim Fast. One for breakfast, one for lunch and a sensible dinner.  I also did moderate exercise 5 days a week.  In 3 months I lost 45 lbs.  I was going to a diet doctor every month to weigh in and update my doctor on my activities and progress. I had to make sure to to take my pill tablet before 7am. If I took it any later then I would have trouble sleeping at night. But I had lots of energy especially towards the end of the day. I was told by by doc that Phentermine is the generic for Adipex.  About three years later after my second son was born, I needed to lose 40 lbs again. But this time I went through a website to purchase Phentermine 37.5mg.  The tablets I received from this website/pharmacy looked exactly like the tablets I took when they were prescibed by my actual diet doctor.  But when I started taking it this time it was not the same. I was doing the same routine I did the first time.  I would take my pill at 9am sometimes and I would be tired by 7pm. Plus I had an appetite unlike the first time I was taking it. Therefore I was not losing alot of weight.  I do not believe these were the same pills that I had taken back then.  I had been scammed. They had sold me a less potent, probably an over the counter pill in which they formed to look like the actual Phentermine 37.5 tablet. Plus they were also taking $20 a month out from the credit card I made the purchase with. They did not have my permission to do this. So beware of purchasing any meds from an unknown online pharmacy. Especially presciption diet pills because I believe they are easier to imitate.  Good luck everyone  in your weight loss adventure!

I am currently on Phentermine and yet no side effects, only benefits. As I don't have an insurance, bought it online, though I hesitated. But still I am satisfied. I am already a month on my treatment and have already lost 15 lbs.

i have used phentermine from Phenblog and it worked well. The side- effects listed by hellrazor are there but not everyone suffers from them. Moreover if it is taken under doctor prescription then their is no worry as your doc knows your medical history well. But in case you still see few side- effects, your doc can provide you with an alternative.
