Question.. Have any of you ever used Adderall to lose weight? I hear that it works wonders.

Also, how difficult is it to get from a doctor if you don't have ADD?

Ummm...I'm no moderator, but I'm not so sure that's appropriate. I also know it's illegal and you can get yourself in a lot of trouble that it. It's very unhealthy for your body and your mind. People go crazy off that stuff if they don't need it. It's just like speed! I mean, honestly, is losing weight really THAT important that you're going to stay up all night every night and risk losing your sanity and maybe your life? Personally, I don't think that stuff is safe for anyone, ecspecially if you dont need it.

i will tell you that it is VERY illegal to use it with out a script.  it is VERY dangerous to use it to lose weight.  It is VERY not smart to use it for any other reason than ADHD related, and even the effects are not fully known for those who do use it for PRESCRIBED purposes.  the laws surrounding prescribing adderall have become very tight because so many people have abused the drug and have gotten hurt in the process.

i know the question of legality might not be a deterrent for you (i have broken the law- i think everyone hasanyone go over the speed limit?) but really, your health is put into jeopardy if you use this for other reasons than the prescribed.  TRUST ME on this one.  TRUST. MEcan i be clear enough???????   i'm sure you will do what you want.... i'm just letting you know that it's not a place where you want to end up at.  it's not good at all.

and really, if the only way to get through is weight concerned, YOU GAIN EVERYTHING BACK PLUS SOME when you stop.  and you will eventually have to stop- prescribed or not.

I've never heard of using it for that purpose.  It's not meant for that, and it's by prescription only, so I would advise against it.

I've taken Adderall before, but it wasn't to lose weight. I took it because I heard it would keep me awake for studying... and it did... I could easily stay awake straight through the night and still feel awake the next morning. Which I think is why Caitlin said it's like speed. Also, I noticed I wasn't hungry or munchy at all that night and my left shoulder did get that little idea that it might be a good weight-loss plan, but for my health I decided against it. I had a friend that took it for weight loss. She tried hiding it from us but we figured it out... it just looked very unhealthy. She wasn't eatting at all and when she did it was like an apple. If anything it just seems like a way to trick yourself into anorexia. Please don't get wrapped up in that! And ya, it is illegal because it's a prescription, but I'm sure you're not too worried about that... especially if you're around my age (21).

Good luck, I hope you can figure it all out in a healthy way!

Thank you all so much. I really appreciate your advice.

StuckSara, I hate to admit this, but I am anorexic. 4 years and counting. I hate it every single day but for some reason I love it too much to get rid of it. I suppose that is an issue for a different board though. I was in treatment a few years ago and got "better" but have had a major relapse the last year or so.

I still feel so fat and stuck and I know a lot of people who sell Adderall and bottom line, just wanted to know if it was worth what little energy I have left to try it..

I'm so sorry to hear that April. Before I started losing weight my freshman year at college I couldn't understand at all how someone could be anorexic. I was one of those people who thought "just eat something!" But once I started losing weight I really enjoyed it, and even though everyone was telling me how skinny I was and I was fitting into sizes that are very small for someone my height, I still felt chunky... not fat, just not slim. Although I've never been anorexic before... I have definitely had plenty anorexic thoughts... actually, I think the disease is more of a spectrum. I'm very sorry you're going to have to deal with it and fight it. Please don't take adderall to lose weight though. It's so hard on your organs that it would be even unhealthier than not eatting! Sorry I can't help at all with the anorexia part because I still have those body issue thoughts of my own, but all I can say that I've heard is that it's very hard, but worth it... just like anything difficult in life. Good luck with everything... keep me posted.

Sara
