title says it all. I went to GNC earlier today and bought 2 lbs of muscletech Nitro-Tech hardcore. was priced at 44.95 when I saw it but rang up at 31 bucks. it says for maximum results to drink 2 servings 3 times a day. I plan on just waking up in the morning, and doing my treadmill workout, and my lift routine. and then drinking 1-2 servings. probably 1.5. and that's all just that in the morning after my workout. then the rest of my diet as normal. curious if anyone has any opinions or cautions with this product. also with the replenishment to my muscles, would it be ok to lift every morning? or should I still do it only every other morning? and if I do lift every other morning should I only drink the protien drink the days I lift? or every morning?

I'm 22 years old, 5'5"-5'6"
225'lbs right now.
according to my scale my BMI is 37.6 so I am trying to get to an Ideal BMI and be toned/ripped in the end as well. so I'm assuming this is a good path to follow. again any opinions please.

I looked at the GNC website and this appears to mostly be a protein supplement.  Most people get all the protien they need from their regular diet so you really do not need the supplement.  Muscle comes froms exercise, not supplements.

If you mix it with water each serving has 110 Calories, more if you mix it with milk.  If you are trying to lose weight adding 165 Calories a day is not going to help.

(I agree with the above)

I looked it up. You didn't specify the flavour. The figures for a 28.5g scoop of the chocolate-flavoured product are: 1.5g fat, 3g carbs (of which 2g sugars, 1g fibre), 20g protein. So as far as I can tell, the calorie breakdown is: 73% protein, 13% fat, 14% carbs.

To cut a long story short what you have there is... some Whey protein powder. It may not look like food in powder food, but that is all it is. It isn't a miracle - it is an ingredient.

To answer your direct question: no, a protein drink, like any other food containing protein, does not give you an excemption from the 'rule' that you should give your muscles 48 hours to recover (but obviously there is nothing stopping you from working on your chest and back on day 1 and on your legs on day 2)

From a health/nutrition point of view, this shake is similar to low-fat cottage cheese (it is a low-fat dairy product). One scoop appears to be about 110 calories (as above: not counting any milk you might be using). You've mentioned aiming for 1500-2000 calories so make sure you don't forget these calories. Some people believe that a post-workout shake helps in recovery and that Whey protein is absorbed quickly, so I guess if you're having it, having it then.

Doug, I will have to disagree with you there... Most people don't realise that they aren't getting their protein needs in a day. When a person works out or does strenuous activity the muscles tear, and in order to build them back up without losing muscle in the process, a person needs to consume about 30-40 grams of protein after their workout. The muscle uses protein to rebuild, so based on your workout and your protein needs, having that protein afterwards is crucial to his losing fat and keeping his muscles...

Jaupro, this is a product that a lot of fitness experts, models, and pro body builders use. If you are looking to lose the fat and keep the muscle, I think that is a wonderful product... drink it with straight water though... Also I agree with Nir, you still need that every other day routine in order to give your muscles a break. Also, the pros drink their protein shakes everyday, but using this as an added supplement on workout days would be best...

A little more info, burning up that fat means keeping those insulin levels low... keep away from sugars, even naturals... limit your fruits. I usually eat a banana everyday and maybe some carrots... it all just depends and I eat things very plain, plain yogurt, nothing sweetened, etc. Eat your leans meats and veggies and just be healthy! Also if you ever feel like you are running low on energy, a tablesppon of almond butter (natural) before your workout typically gives you a little kickstart. :)
