Ive been trying to add more protein. I try to eat meat as much as possible but sometimes its hard to take it with you to work, or to spend alot on restaurant meals with good amount of chicken when you work every day. I am taking Spirutein in the morn, still takes time to blend it etc, but not bad. I only has 14 grams per serv. I take spirulina tabs and the daily amount suggested is 6 tabs but that only has 2 grams.
According to most nutritionists the amount of protein your body should have is about 1 gram per pound, so if I want to take in at least 107 grams how can I add at least 80 grams aside from the chicken breast/beef a day I have. Hard boiled eggs? I think they only have about 6 grams of protein per egg.
Ive seem some shake forms that have 30-40 grams per serving, but which actually taste good, and dont have like a billion cals, or have stuff that stimulate you too much. I tried the Jay Robb shakes and I got real shakey and it tasted awful, like it had too many artificial sweetners. I like the Spirutein, but its costly takes alot of time to blend and really doesnt have that much protein per serving.
Anyone have any suggestions? what about MetRx? I saw a kirkland brand, it was a giant bag and it seemed to cost about 1/2 compared to others. I think it had almost 40 grams of protein per serving and about 120 cals, not bad.

It's a taste thing. Most of the protein powders I've bought have been pretty good - some really good.
They're not all that handy to take with you, though - shakers, powder container...
Nir's the man for protein at bargain prices. He likes the very cheap TVP (textured vegetable protein) that's sold in his favourite supermarket. Very good protein at a rock-bottom price.
Search the forums for 'protein' and 'Nir' and you'll come up with the required info. Whether your local supermarket stocks the stuff is another question...

Perhaps you meant to say most body builders?
A qualified nutritionist should be aware of the RDA for protein, which is 0.36g per pound. For a 107lb woman that works out at 38.5g. How much protein are you getting when you're "not trying hard"?
Anyhow, if you are determined to get extra protein, I found that Whey Protein Powder (and soy protein power, for that matter) turn out to be tasty but rather expensive ways of getting protein. In the UK I go to a shop called Holland and Barrett and buy their own-brand when they do their half-price sales. Otherwise I know that there is a guy in the outdoor market who sells 5lb containers for a similar price. For me it is a commodity (I need it as an ingredient in my smoothies) so I get it as cheap as I can. Some people try certain brands and don't like the taste, but there is a lot of mark-up in these products.
By the way, as I care about my health I limit how much of it I use - I use 1/3 to 1/2 a scoop over an entire day.
For economical 'concentrated protein' the cheapest is indeed Textured Vegetable Protein (sometimes called Dried Soya Mince). If you like cottage cheese, low fat versions are high in protein so check your local prices. I also used to buy tinned tuna when it was reasonably priced.

Thanx so much for the replies, I thought that 1 gram per lbs seemed a bit high, I found that equation at a few sites in found on the internet when I searched for protien suppliments and how much should you take. None of them mentioned "body building" though I wish I had access to weights and someone who really knew how to recommend exactly what to do.
Ive never been very much into excercise, I USED to be very fit naturally. Had rock hard belly without any excercise. But THAT changed ALOT after 2 sons and age. Once in my mid 20s I did do weights cause my best friend had a full weight set in his home. He was having a personal trainer come in a few days a week so Id just "happen" to be there and get to watch. The trainer was real nice and let me join in, guess he thought it was "cute" to see a small girl work out. I loved it and they were both impressed by my strength. I remember my butt and my back especially were so very toned and smoothly muscular, I loved it. I wish I could do that again. Time and money keep me from it.
Cant afford a trainer, and I dont like gyms, I feel lost. I dont fit in and I can be quite shy in strange situations. I have some of those resistance band things, but not quite sure what to do with them, except snap myself. I also have one of those dumb yoga ball, and I say dumb cause mostly I just endup on the floor if I try anything other than basic situps.
Maybe I'll put up a post in the excercise section about either books or good instructional DVD to use those yoga balls/ and those resistance bands. I need to get some dumbells for my son, maybe Ill get me a pair.

I have tried a soy protein powder that was pretty easy to make. You just add milk.
it's called Soy Protein Science. It worked pretty well for me. You can use it as a meal replacement too

Thanx, I'll look for it at the place I get all my nutritional/vitamins at. How much does it cost and how much comes in the package? How many grams of protien per serving?
Just good to know before buying.
ThanX Pris

Don't buy anything that's less than 80% protein, otherwise there's less bang per buck. Of course, a very cheap brand that gives 70% protein would still be cheaper than a dearer brand with 80+%... but you know what I'm driving at.
Nir's TVP is still the best bet, other than 'going native' and killing your own food!
