I was doing research online about this stuff.. i have some excess skin i would love to remove but I cant seem to find a real answer to my questions.. I would love to know how that works and what the price of this is? when i did research online i found people saying its between 4,000$ and 16,000$ and thats what i dont get why someone would pay 4K and someone 16K.. i thought ok some doctors might be more expensive than others but that big of a differnece is a little too much so theres something to this.. how does this stuff work what do they do to you when u tummy tuck? is this a simple operation or is it something dangerous? how long is the recovery after the surgery? i would love to know as much as possible on this if someone has answers please write back thank you :) btw i am 5'10 and went from 300 to 173lbs 24 yrs old.. if the age or height makes any difference in the tummy tucking proccess..

There is a panniculectomy (probably spelled wrong) which removes the execess belly skin after large weight loss.  This differs from a true tummy tuck which may include the former plus tighten the muscles underneath.  Then there is body contouring that adds lipo to the equation for asthetics.

Check out the plastic surgery forum message board on obesityhelp.com, surgical forums.  There are people there who have lost large quantities of weight and had or are researching plastics for the tummy area.  There are some amazing results and links to drs and articles with pictures. Users are generally freindly and helpful.

I've been looking into it myself, I live in Denmark though so no idea about the prices since it's esentially covered by our health insurrence.

The price depends from doc to doc. It's pretty obvious you have to pay quite a bit more to get it removed at the best abdominal plastic surgeon rather than Dr. Nobody who just finished med school.

The operation is fairly simple, takes about 4 hours. You are fully sedated in troughout the operation. There is however a risc, according to the statisics 1 out of 100 die from the operation (in the US). After the operation you will have tubes in your stomach, and you have to drain them daily for liquid.

You are not allowed to do any work whatsoever 4 weeks after the opeartion, you will esentially be a couch potato in the recovery time. One of my friends went trough it, and she couldnt walk for the first week, after that walking was fairly painful untill it healed.

You are not NOT allowed to smoke 1 month before the operation and untill it's healed, since smoking is messing with the bloodflow and the chance of the skin dying is dramatically increased for smokers.

I've been considering the operation myself, 5"9 and went from 285 to 174. So your quite similar to me. I've decided not to go for it though. alot of what you think are lose skin might very well be fat. I've been reading up on it, esentially, it appears like lose skin, but there's fat behind. If there's no fat behind it will be like the skin on the backside of your hands pretty much.

Considering your weight and height, you have a BMI of 24.8, which is just within what is considered normal. I would recommend you to drop to 140~ pounds, before making a final decision on the surgery. Beside, your skin will tone up over time if you continue to eat healthy, lift weights and do cardio.

You can read up on the whole thing with body fat vs. lose skin here: http://www.naturalphysiques.com/cms/index.php?itemid=531

This guy is one of the most respected personal trainers - he really knows what he is talking about. Trust me :)
