Surgery is NOT and I repeat NOT a 'quick fix'. It's changing your body.. some more drastically than others, mine can be, but will not be, removed. It was the last option for me after really trying the 'normal' way. It is also not for those that are just kind of overweight. It varies by Doctor, but mine won't even talk to you unless you are 100 over weight, and you also had to be at least 100 pounds over weight for more than 5 years.
Regardless of the procedure you have done, it will change the way you eat, how you eat, and what you eat, forever. Do I have any regrets? None what-so-ever but it's not a decision to be taken lightly.
Have you tried starting an online food journal, like here for instance, and logging every single thing you put in your mouth? Somtimes being held accountable to others and yourself will help take it off. I tried it and it worked for a little while but I kept falling off the wagon so I decided to alter my anatomy. It works but it's not EASY. A lot of the general public is under the assumption that weight loss surgery is the 'easy way out'. I can assure you that IT IS NOT. You still have to watch what you eat, though it's much easier as you are limited to amounts when you eat correctly, and you still have to exercise. It doesn't just magically fall off, in fact, you can gain weight with the procedure I have (lap band surgery) if you eat the wrong things. It's not a calorie catcher, it's strictly a tool that keeps you from over eating.
Do your research and in the meantime, start a food journal.
good luck.

Heym don't be so down on yourself. Uglyme? There are ugly things about all of us, and just being fat does not necessarily make you ugly. Whats more, just as everyones Mum tells them, real beauty, lasting beauty is on the inside.
You don't say what country you are in, but I am in the UK. I saw a briatric surgeon in May, and again in June. We agreed that so long as I diet and lose weight (to show that I am really serious about changing my body) he will happilly fit me with a gastric band. So now am dieting (read all about it as How I lost 4 stone in 3 months in Success Stories). I was about 140 lbs overweight (estimated) and have now lost 4 stone, so I guess that shows I am serious as its possible to be.
If youare in the UK, you only have to find yourself a sympathetic surgeon. IM me and I'll give you the name of mine - it's free at the point of contact on the NHS.
But please dont be so down on yourself. Remember, the bigger and heavier you are, the quicker it will come off - to start with at least. And look at the changes I have made in 3 months! You can do it too.
Chin up! You're not alone.

| I agree with synicalchick. At my heaviest weight I was interested in getting a weight loss surgery but once I started researching them I realized that they were too invasive for me. They should not be taken lightly and although they do work fast, they are not a quick fix. Please take a tour of the forum and see if you might find anything that you could do without surgery to lose weight, and if you still can't lose weight talk to somebody who has had the surgery and see what they had to go through. Good luck on your weight loss!

Just a note to say, Lap band isn't a fast weight loss like the other surgeries either. You lose the 1-3 lbs per week just like the doctors recommend.

Hey OnceUpon-A-ThinGirl and Synicalchick, I wasn't meaning to imply that weight loss surgery is a panacea, a magic bullet or even the answer for everyone - I was just trying to offer a possible source of hope for someone who seems to have a worryingly low self esteem and hope level (Uglyme). I just wanted to try to offer some hope that help is available in many forms both surgical and self directed (diet and exercise).
I certainly didn't want to imply that surgery is an easy way out. Sorry if I annoyed or angered you.
