Hi Sugar !
Hey- don't let your friends get you down, girl. Look at how far we've both come! This is the longest either of us has stayed on this wagon.. and we've lost WEIGHT..and we FEEL BETTER! Look how much farther you can walk without getting winded, look at your cardio and pilates routines and look how they are getting easier..and if all those aren't enough factors to make you want to hop back onto the band wagon.. look at the numbers on the scale..
I do know what you mean, I work with two very awesome ladies. One of which who is a health-nut and considerate and supportive of my dieting, she walks the stairs with me when she can, she asks how I'm doing, encourages me and gives me ideas on different health-foods to eat. And the other is the opposite. She just found out she's pregnant, so she can't lose the weight she wanted.. She is constantly leaving sugary treats on my desk, chocolate, cookies..buying McDonalds and bringing it over.. She is -trying- to make me fail. To me.. that's not a friend, at all. I politely decline and sometimes I put the treats in the bucket for the rest of the office to enjoy if they want. She constantly tells me " Oh, a little sugary goodness won't hurt you.."
What people like her and some of your friends don't realize is..it WILL hurt us. Sure, one candy bar isn't going to make or break the scale but it makes or breaks us. I have enjoyed a bit of sweets lately and I find it makes me feel guilty and like I am slipping on my changes.. it makes it harder to stay on the wagon!
Don't worry about your blah days, we're all entitled to them! Hey- you ought to take a day off a week, it makes the exercise more enjoyable. I have read in many places that if you feel like you don't want to exercise, don't.. that doesn't mean every single day.. but this means if there is a day during the week you don't feel like exercising, then don't. If you feel guilty the next day, you can always make up for it by a walk or a bit more cardio. Bottom line.. don't push yourself -so- hard or you really WILL burn out! And don't fret.. you're making awesome progress! More than me!
I only did a half a mile and pilates this morning, as well as some stairs.. I didn't do the mile this evening.. I still may but I haven't yet. I don't feel SO bad about it, *though I do feel like I'm slipping* because I am not gaining on the scale.. I'm hovering..which is expected and my calorie intake hasn't been above 1200 really..
Hope you had a good Tuesday!!

Thank you Wicked...
You have no idea how much more incredibly easier this is - having someone who understands and even goes through the exact same things I do. I keep trying to remind myself that everyday is a struggle, and it truly is. I guess those people in our lives who don't get our desire to lose weight, our motivation to have a healthier lifestyle - or even get how important all of this is to us... well they are really hurting us more than they know. Food for me has always been a comforting thing. When so many things in my life may go wrong, I always NEED to cheer myself up through binging on junkfood and sugar. For some reason things seem so much easier when I just let myself go. And I'm not even sure why that is, but what those enabling-type-people don't understand is that we're not just changing our lifestyles, we're trying our hardest to change a set of behaviours that are so ingrained in our lives that it's almost like learning how to walk or ride a bike. I mean - that's the best way I can describe it, at least.
So thank you for the constant encouragement, and thank you for reminding me why I'm doing this. I have my fair share of days when I just don't feel strong enough to cope with everything, and I feel so greatful to be able to go through this experience with you. Slowly and surely we're doing this, we WILL get there. It's going to take some pretty intense blood, sweat and tears but it WILL happen. I guess I just need to keep the faith.
Enough of the mushy stuff haha It's most definitely WAY past my bedtime. But I just had to thank you again for not only encouraging me to get back on track, but reminding me that I'm not in this alone. I know I couldn't have made it this far without you
Tomorrow's another day, and I'm looking forward to letting things get back to normal this weekend. I hope you've had a good start to your week, you definitely deserve it! Cheers to us slimming down!

Hey Wicked...
I feel your pain. I'm kind of hanging off of the wagon right now. I got back to my exercises on Tuesday, but missed them again yesterday. I've been pretty good with the food - it's just the exercising. My weeks are always so jammed pack that I am so exhausted by the time I get home, and then working out after that makes me so tired. I think it's just a matter of us ensuring we keep pushing ourselves, or if our workout routines are too much we decrease them a little. I'm not sure what else to do at this point, because I don't want to completely fall off the wagon - but I'm also getting so frustrated with how tired and sore I am ALL the time. Not only that, but we've kind of grown up in a society where everything is increasingly instantaneous - from the Internet to anything else you could think of. I don't think our generation sees patience as a virtue, so when we actually have to play the "wait and see" game we get SO frustrated.
We just need to be strong and stick to our goals. Maybe take a break from adding goals every week, and instead feel satisfied if we get through the day doing half if not all of our fitness plan. What we're doing is the hardest thing to stay accountable to, because aside from each other neither of us has much of a support system to help us through. And with our fitness so reliant on US keeping ourselves in check ... well it's almost like setting ourselves up to fail. I don't know about you, but I really don't have that much willpower.. and if I did I definitely wouldn't be in the position of having to lose weight in the first place!
You just need to keep reminding yourself that weight loss and healthy living is not a sprint.. it's a marathon and it's definitely going to take a LOT of time and discipline. I think a year from now we'll both be really pleased with the outcome if we can just stick to the program and stay on the wagon. I'm not going to say that it's unacceptable for us to slip every now and again, but when we slip off the wagon we need to be realistic and force ourselves to jump back on.
I also don't think we should be weighing ourselves more than once a month. Let's face it, at this point we've both plateaued... even as we lose FAT we are gaining muscle even faster. And we both know that muscle weighs more than fat. We should be pleased if we lose a few pound each month, but expecting anything more than that will definitely make us disappointed.
Don't worry about slipping up, and don't beat yourself up over lagging on the fitness. If you need to take a few days off, take those days off. Just know that I am certain you are strong enough to pull yourself back onto the wagon. We've both been strong enough thus far to even STICK to the program. Let's not do ourselves the disservice of just giving up. Sure, it feels like things are taking forever right now, but in the big scheme of things the time it will take us to slim down will be equivilant to the blink of an eye in our entire lifetime. THIS is the perfect time for us to change our lives. We're young and bounce back easily. We are bettering ourselves and preempting any future of health issues relating to not only weight, but also the consumption of food that makes you feel like #%@&!.
E-mail me if you want to talk more.. and I have MSN too if you want to add me so we can have a quick chat when either of us are feeling weak. I'm here for you as much as you're here for me and we WILL perservere.
I hope you have a better day today.. just think - tomorrow's Friday! Happy TGIF-eve! haha
Talk Later

Hey Wicked !
I actually just had a really good talk with my mom over the phone and had to share with you a few of the kernels of wisdom she shared with me regarding this whole weight loss thing...
One of the things she said was that it is awesome how we (yes she knows about you!) were doing great with the fitness plan and added activity everyday and whatnot, but when I explained to her about how we were both kind of feeling down and out she said that when it comes to lifestyle changes (or any issues to overcome) it always seems much easier to just hit the ground running, change EVERYTHING, and get over zealous with our goals/plans. But even she said that living a healthy lifestyle is more of a marathon, it's not a sprint. So when we are super hard on ourselves for not doing activity for a day or two, we need to think back to even a month ago BEFORE we started and remember the level of activity we did then. I'm not sure about you, but for me even the IDEA of leaving my apartment resulted in me being lethargic and staying glued to the coach. If you visualize the amount of changes you have overcome since then, you realize how far you've come. And she even told me that my whole plan to work out 7 days a week (and even yours to work our 6 days a week) is great on paper, but when you're exhausted or over-committing yourself your even MORE likely to build on a desire to eventually jump off the wagon. REALISTICALLY, most people who do live healthy lives work out maybe 3 to 4 days a week. If we get in at least that much we should be dam*n proud of ourselves.
Basically what I got from our conversation is that there is no reason we should be feeling guilty if we take a day or two off- or if we feel like we just can't do it. Because in all liklihood, we can't.
She actually made me feel like I was being an idiot. And in hind sight - I kind of was. So I'm going to revamp my workout schedule to have around 4 major days of fitness with sporadic 10 minute pilate sessions throughout the week.. and I urge you to do the same. I think at this point we have more than proven to ourselves that we are comitted to changing our lives for the better - so let's stop setting ourselves up to fail.
Finally, my mom also said that with most things in life the "turtle plan" (so to speak) is the best plan. Even if you apply that to other aspects of your life - say finances. When you save up money you never expect to make back loads of money right away. It would be like someone expecting to win the lottery so all of their money woes are gone. So why wouldn't it be any different with weight loss? We can't expect to miracerously lose weight overnight... that just DOESN'T happen. But what we can do is slowly change our lives so in a year or two from now we end up being the ideal weight we had wanted to be from the get go.
So please don't give up... We can do this and we will do this. We just need to be realistic and keep our eyes on the prize. I am feeling more energic everyday, and I know you are too. Let's not work ourselves into the ground OR force ourselves to fall off the wagon.. AGAIN. haha
If we want chocolate - we have chocolate (in moderation). If we want to take a few days off of the *new* fitness plan - we take a few days off (then get back to it). The second we make this into a "no options program" is the second we will want to opt out as fast as we possibly can.
Anyway, I hope you have had a better few days, I know after talking to my mom she kind of put everything into perspective.. Don't you hate how moms can ALWAYS do that? hahaha
Take care and talk soon!
Ciao

Hi Sugar !
Thank you so much for the sweet words and the words of massive wisdom, they were really what I needed. I have been eating the best that I can as of late, but I haven't been doing my fitness like I am supposed to be, granted I did vigorously clean the house today and I am planning to hit up the treadmill in a few minutes for at LEAST a half mile.
With the big ice storm and most of the county being without power, we've had two families staying with us.. which has put a hurting on our budget.. We've also resulted to "quick and easy" meals, but I've managed to only eat a bit of that and stick with what's left of me fresh veggies and yogurts and fruit.
Your mom seems like a very smart woman, you are lucky to have someone like that to stand behind you on this change and to encourage you when you feel like quitting. It's a blessing, it really is. I know I am blessed to have you talking with me and encouraging me when I'm feeling down, if it wasn't for you.. I'd of been off this diet a long time ago.
I will work on a new fitness plan as well, I think that's the best idea I've heard. And though I know I shouldn't, I still weigh myself every couple of days.. more curiousity than need. I know I shouldn't, but I wanted to report in..that two weeks ago when I put up fitness plans (okay, almost two weeks) I was at 216.6. Since then, I've not stuck exactly to my plans for exercise and the last week has been rough for me..but this morning I hopped on the scale just to see if I had truly done damage.. and I was down to 214.2!! Almost TEN POUNDS LOST!! And 14 away from my first goal! It seemed so much more in reach and to see that I had actually lost when I thought I'd gained, I was in shock! I was holding rough at 217-216 and thought I'd never get below it. To my excitement, I did!
On a note, off the subject of our lifestyle revamp.. I had a job interview today and should hear back the first of next week if I make it to a second interview. I'm not sure how well I did, I always get so tongue tied and blank minded when it comes to interviews. But, my husband ALSO got a call about a job and they are supposed to call him next week about orientation information. It looks like things are really starting to look up, financially.. I am thankful for that, and for you. I'm feeling much better about it.
Well, I am off! I intend to go in tomorrow for a few hours a work since the ice-storm has kept me out of work all week and I neeeed the hours! I'll write more tomorrow and I'll post my new plan on Sunday! Thanks again, Sugar.. for being so much support and most of all, for being such an awesome friend.

Hi There Sugar!
I hope you've been doing well this weekend, maybe getting some much needed rest, as it were! I wanted to check in and update my fitness plan. I'll update my weight and add the fitness plan to the bottom tomorrow, like I did two weeks ago if you wanted to write up your plan, weight loss accomplishments.
I was talking to a friend of mine (the one who is a health freak and supports me) Saturday, I was telling her how I felt guilty for not exercising but I managed to lose a little weight still. And she pointed out that once you get some muscles developed, (like we have) even when we're not exercising, our muscles are burning fat. So see, we shouldn't feel so useless when we don't exercise, our muscles are STILL working off that fat for us - might not be as fast as we want, but they are working!
Electric is still mostly out in my state, I have my parents and brother staying with us so the house is full and eating healthy hasn't really happened because we've been making quick, big budget meals..so knowing my calorie intake is higher, I've just been eating less leading up to dinner. Hope this compensates well.
Fitness Goals Week 5 and 6:
Monday: 0.50 tready miles in the morning, 10 minute pilates and 0.50 evening tready miles, Stairs X3.
Tuesday: 10 minutes pilates and 0.50 tready miles.
Wednesday: 0.50 tready miles in the morning, 10 minute pilates and 0.50 evening tready miles, Stairs X3.
Thursday: 20 minute pilates and 0.50 tready miles.
Friday: 0.50 tready miles in the morning, 10 minute pilates and 0.50 evening tready miles, Stairs X3.
Saturday: 20 minutes pilates and 0.50 tready miles.
Sunday: 0.50 tready miles.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I obviously lessened CONSIDERABLY my fitness goals. I took what you said to heart and realized.. I had so much fitness in my day, I had no way to PROGRESS.. in order to progress and take on more, I'd have to dedicate many hours a day to exercise and realistically.. I don't have that kind of time. So I decided I should start smaller, count my calories (roughly) and have something to build up to. I'm hoping this way I am not setting myself up for failure. Hope you're doing well!!

Hey Sugar!
I'm worried about you, dear! I've not heard from you in several days, I'm hoping you didn't cave off the bandwagon completely. I revamped my fitness for the weeks to take out pilates, I haven't done #%@&! this week. Not one minute of exercise...
My eating hasn't been the best either, because of the icestorm and the fact that we're so broke we're struggling to pay rent.. but my mom brought over a bunch of food that was thawing out and that needed cooked, it's not always the most healthy..so we've not been having healthy dinners.. Ugh. Soon as life gets normal and my family gets electric back and my house stops being a hotel, I'm going to hit it again really hard. Weighed this morning (because I wanted to see what damage was done) and weighed 213.0 So I'm hoping I can continue to lose, I'm hoping my muscles I've built will continue to burn fat while I don't exercise.
I am getting up tomorrow and doing my two-times of tready miles.. 1 mile all together. I AM DOING IT. I don't know what my problem is..
How're you holding up? I hope better than myself..

Hey Wicked !
Sorry I have been in communicado of late, as I mentioned in my brief email I was out of town for a few days. I had SO much to get done before I left that I completely forgot to let everyone know that I was going... which is typical me, as you will soon know. I should have been born a blonde (no offense if you are one!) haha.
I've stuck to my "healthy eating" (I refuse to use the D word) and didn't even cave on the vegetarianism while away. It was really hard though, especially when you go to a restaurant you've never been to before and they don't really have a wide array of vegetarian selections. But I did it!
My fitness plan, however, has gone to the wayside for nearly two weeks now. This weekend I will make a new fitness plan like you did and I WILL get through 20 minutes of pilates and 30 minutes of cardio. I'm not feeling as great as I used to, which is probably due to the fact that I've ignored my fitness for a little while now. The pilates and cardio will KILL me but I have to get back in gear.
I'm sorry things have been so hard for you lately, and even sorrier still that I haven't been around this week to help you out. Even in the hardest situations, all you need to do is think and plan. If you can't afford healthier alternatives right now, then just eat what's most convenient in moderation. You know this as well as I do. And make certain foods off limit - like french fries, potatoe chips or anything else. Look up online to see if there are certain foods that have EMPTY calories, or google any resources about the nutritional information on the package. The only things I know for sure are that saturated fats are MUCHO bad - so stay away from those.
Ultimiately we are on this plan to get healthy, but at the same time we need to be aware of our overall ability to stick with it. Case in point - I HAD to decrease my fitness because I was burning out and starting to resent working out. Now you will have to eat a few more of the foods you feel guilty about because of your financial situation, but you know how to do that wisely now and you can always remain in control. I have faith in your ability to persevere through this hard time. You need to have faith in yourself too.
And when you get down or frustrated just think of the amount of good karma you're generating from allowing a family with even LESS means than what you have to stay with you. Sure, sacrifices must be made, but you are doing the right thing. And if you were in that position, wouldn't you want someone to take you in out of the goodness of their heart? I'm a firm believer that what goes around comes around and that it's important to treat people how you would like to be treated. You're doing an amazing thing for these people and I'm so very proud of you!
Anyway ... you know how it is when you get back, you have more work piled up than when you left. Today is going to be such a long homework day so I better get started. Sorry again for forgetting to let you know that I was going to be away. I haven't fallen off the wagon yet, I promise! Nor do I plan to fall/jump off. We are going to do this!
Take care of yourself
Ciao!

Hi Sugar !
I am so proud of you for sticking to the healthy food choices! And I was beginning to wonder about you, last I heard you were having a revelation after a few rough days..I really was hoping you wasn't gone.. the funny thing is.. I found it a struggle to get through my lifestyle change when I hadn't heard from you! It's amazing the effect you've had on me!
I'm currently working this Saturday, and though I did decrease my fitness plan.. with the people in the house, I didn't stick to it. So, everyone has power and is back home. It's back to just me, the hubby, the dog and our two cats.. So it's time to hit the exercises again.. I'm going to clean house when I get home and tomorrow I'll start out on my fitness plan and follow it for two weeks, which means I won't update next monday..it'll be the monday after since I've slacked this week on exercise.
Thanks again for the encouraging words. I'll write more this evening after I've worked all day and cleaned the house. It's sunny here!! And no more snow is on the ground, that makes me super excited!! I'll talk more later, when I've the chance.. I just wanted to check in and tell you how proud of you I am.

Hey! I was hoping I could join your group! I am 5'4'', 20 years old, and 288 pounds. My name is Allana, and I just lost four pounds this week! Yay! lol I work in fast food (The evil McDonald's to be exact) so it's very hard to diet, and I have been overweight my entire life. I live in Nebraska. I'm going to spend some time reading all of your posts cause I wanna catch up! Anyways, here's my info. My diet began because I was eating 2500 calories a day and 2000 calories at eork alone! I have cut that back to 1500 calories. I no longer drink pop, but still don't exercise much. Other than that, it's simple calorie counting.
Stats:
Starting weight: 306.7 lbs
Current weight: 288.0 lbs
1st goal: 265 lbs by June
Overall goal: 204 lbs

Welcome aboard!!
I'm glad you decided to join us and you're more than welcome here! Sugar is awesome support, I'd be cowing on pizza if not for her! haha! We all have big overall goals and a lot of weight to lose, we also both know it won't be a fast process, changing a lifestyle never is!
I hope you find yourself feeling right at home here with us, we try to check in daily and sometimes I get wordy and write two times a day, I guess because it is a real help for me to write my emotions as soon as I feel them.. as opposed to opening the refrigerator.
So, long story short.. Welcome!!
Now- as an overall thing.. I didn't exercise today. Bleh on me. I do plan to get to it tomorrow, I know I keep putting it off but I feel like I'm eating "okay" so I am at least not cowing and lazing.
Allana, how do you count your calories? I use an awesome website http://www.livestrong.com and the "Daily Plate" is a calorie tracker, as well as a goal and a chart that you can track your weightloss -as- well as your food intake, exercise and measurements.. it's awesome. Anyways, you should check that out if you have never seen it.
Okay! I will check in tomorrow after my exercise.

Calori counting helps me watch my portions a lot better. Without counting I would simply eat however much fit in the bowl. lol For example, I only eat vegetables if they have butter on them but I have cut down to less butter. I can't believe it's not butter is what I use actually.
I get the nutritional facts from my job and have found that the snack wraps only have 260 calories each so I have those at work and then when I go shopping I look at all the boxes and make the the portion is a good enough size for the amount of calories. Like one of you said earlier, who eats 10 chips? lol
I simply keep it under 1500 calories a day.
I actually weigh in on Fridays, so I'll post any progress then and I love trying to post every day!
P.S. You guys sound like good friends! I hope I fit in with you well! :D

Hi Ladies!
Let's start this week out right! First off, I hope you both had wonderfully fulfilling weekends and are all rested up for the beginning of another week!
Sugar: Don't feel bad about leaving without saying anything, I am forgetful like that as well. Hey! On a side note, did you want to update your stats tomorrow or next week when I update mine? If we can all update on the same day, I will post a topic at least outlining the three of us and our stats! I hope you got those pilates in like you were saying you were going to do, I know that will help make the week start out right for you! A new week means a new chance to stick to our fitness plans and meal-goals.
Allana: Sugar and I seem like such good friends because we -are-. I only met her here, on this forum but like I've said numerous times in my previous posts, I am a strong believer that people who go through life changing events together build and have lasting friendships. This that we're doing here, is a lifechanging event. It's a lifestyle change. We refuse to use the "d" word. :) I know Sugar isn't really big on counting calories, and I'm addicted.. and you count as well. I strongly suggest http://www.livestrong.com I know I've brought it up before but it has so many helpful tools -and- it lets you see through grafts and the likes just what you need to decrease, fat, carbs, ect.. I think.. (I could be wrong) that you can subscribe to other people's "calorie plate", I'd be more than happy to subscribe to yours and vice versa. At least then we could keep up with each other's meals and suggest changes. This goes for you as well, Sugar.. if you are wanting to start keeping up with calories in vs. exercise.
I really just like having things put in perspective that I can see in numbers, grafts, ect. Here is my plate, in the case you can actually view it.. http://www.livestrong.com/thedailyplate/users/myplate/
Anyways- I did my exercises today. Just a half mile. I know, I know..I'm starting so small. And technically I should be well above that, but I've slacked so much the last week or two, I just want to start over on exercises. I also ate pretty good today, as far as calories go.. Not enough, if you ask me but.. I didn't go grocery shopping until this evening.
Hope you both are great!!
Wicked
Edit: If you can't actually view my plate, you can create a free account and search me up I think and add me to your "friends".. My user id there is SassyLass.

Hey guys!
I had a great day. We went out for my mom's birthday and my favorite restaurant but instead of eating the fried chicken strips and salty french fries with lots of ranch that I really wanted, I had a grilled chicken salad! I felt so great afterwards! For lunch, I had 2 grilled snack wraps from McDonald's, and for dessert I had a cone. Overall I had 1378 calories. My goal is 1500 so I'm happy!
I also bought a new scale! I use to have to go to my mom's to weigh myself. I've decided I need to start some sort of exercise program, but everytime I do, I just get annoyed with it and stop my whole diet plan. Maybe I will try some little things like you guys.
I am really hoping that this week, I lose at least 1.3 pounds because that would mean that I am halfway to my first goal!
Anyways, I have some homework to do so gotta go! :D

Hey girls!
I know I seem to talk alot but bear with me. I am really not sure how old you guys are, but I wanted to share something with you that I thought of last night. Maybe it will be motivating.
I have worried about have a heart attack or a stroke or getting diabetes. I am only 20 years old and I should not have to lay around at night worrying about this things, but my mom, dad, great-grandpa on mom's side, and grandma on dad's side all have diabetes. Now, my heart is beautiful and artistic (I write poems) and I consider my heart to be talented. Now, why should my heart have to suffer because I have put all this weight on it. My heart keeps me alive yet I am doing nothing to make it easier. All I have been doing is making it harder for my heart to do that. My heart deserves to be is a beautiful artistic healthy body and that is my motivation for today. :D
Hope it helps you guys a little!
Thanks for listening to my babble! :D

Hey Ladies. !
I hope you both had a good monday. Mine was okay, I did not stick to my diet at all..despite my big post this morning.. I ended up getting a new job offer, so I celebrated at the local chinese resturant and totally blew my calories out of the water (I think), no exercise either!
But I am getting back on the bandwagon tomorrow morning, provided I get up in time to get on the treadmill and get a shower and still be at work by 6am! The new job has some odd hours, 11:30am-8:00pm! But I can kind of sleep in, so that will be nice..
I hope you guys have had a great start to your week.
Allana - I like the way you look at things, the heart thing really made me smile. I agree.. I tell my husband all the time.." I love myself, I don't know why I treat myself so badly." Hehe. And to answer your question, I am 23, I won't be 24 until August.
Sugar - I haven't heard from you in a couple days and you know it's like me to wonder if you're resisting temptation or forgetting all about me. *I kid, I kid*. I am sure you're doing fabulous! Did you update your fitness plan to something a bit lighter for this week? And did you weigh in? I just bet you've got some awesome progress to report!! Both in feeling better and the numbers.
I will write more tomorrow, when I've followed my plans and schedules better. Have a good one! And Allana, don't apologize about being chatty.. It's nice! We're pretty chatty ourself when we have the time, Sugar's been a busy bee lately.
Be good!

Hey Girls!
I am doing great today. I had cereal with skim milk for breakfast, snack wraps and apples for lunch, and chicken and scrambled eggs for dinner. lol That's a strange combination. Also, I've drank about 80 ounces of water today! I had 64 just at work and then like 20 since I've been home.
I really feel like this is a lifestyle change. I am starting to feel like it's a normal routine. I eat healthy without even realizing it. Even when I forget I'm dieting, I've noticed I look at a menu and automatically order something healthy. And it's weird but I am suddenly craving salads! lol
Anyways, I started some exercises. I did 100 crunches last night and did some thigh muscle exercises as well. Today I am going to do some crunches during commercials of my favorite shows. lol
I read one of your posts about dieting with a friend who pulls you off the wagon. I agree completely. I have a friend who gives up very easily and when we try to lose weight together and I lose more in a week, she gets upset with me. I am so glad that you guys are so encouraging!

Hey Ladies!
Just a quick note from me; I accepted the new job and decided to keep my current one as a part time second job, so I'll be working two jobs starting at the beginning of March.. Wish me luck! I know with all of that, I'll be pressed for exercise time so I may need to cut my exercising down to the days I am not working both places.
Here's the deal.. I am struggling. I cannot get myself to get back onto the routine of the treadmill. I go to bed with intentions of tomorrow being a new day and I get up in the morning, way past my alarm..never have time to get on before work.. I get so busy at work I can't do the stairs and when I get home, I reason away my treadmilling. It's pitiful and I'm so ashamed..
On a side note, I am sticking within calories..though I have noticed that I am not eating as much calories as I had been, I am thinking it's possible I am eating too little and gaining again, if that's even possible. I'm back up to 214.4. *sigh*.
I just want to be able to get myself back on the treadmill, I want to feel a difference in my clothes and see a difference in how I look and feel..in my own skin. I guess I'll be eating better/more times a day once I get some extra funds and am able to get groceries. We're so out of food here.. it's just odds and ends meals now, no fresh fruit, veggies, nothing. I am so ashamed, I know I've said that a few times now in just this post alone... I apologize.
Thank you girls, for being so great a listening to me. Sugar.. you still out there??
Allana- I am SO proud of YOU! You're doing so great! Have you noticed a difference in the way your clothes feel? I am so proud of you!!! Keep up the great work!

Hey girls!
I had a another good day. I had a salad with grilled chicken for lunch (and only half the dressing!) and for dinner I had grilled chicken, a side salad, and broccoli. I still have lots of calories for today but I don't know what I'll have before bed. I am going to do some crunches before bed too and maybe some other excerises.
Wicked- I might suggest getting some kind of motivation for the treadmill. Maybe do it while watching TV. That always worked for me because I got so into the show that I forgot I was working out! Another idea to get motivated may be to do it at a different time. Mornings are hard for everyone. Getting up early to excerise is no fun. Try doing it right after dinner or right before bed.
Anyways, I hope you do better and don't fall off the wagon. I need support! lol And yes I've been noticing my clothes fitting looser, and my jawline is smaller.
Good Luck!!

| P.S. Maybe you are just weighing too often. I don't know how often you weigh yourself, but I noticed I weighed myself friday and then two days later and it seemed like I gained. lol We have to wait a week!! It's important so that we don't get discouraged.

Hey girls!
I had a good day today. I had cereal for breakfast, snack wraps for lunch, and chicken and eggs for dinner again. lol I have about 100 calories left for the day, but I'm still hungry. I think I might do some excerises in order to be able to eat something yummy! lol
I hope you are both doing well though I haven't even met Sugar yet! lol Good luck with everything.

Happy Friday the 13th, Ladies!
I just wanted to check in quickly, for the moment..quick because I'm currently at work.. I can write more tonight after I get home.
I still haven't kicked my butt back into exercising yet.. I have a strained muscle in my back so movement like that really irritates it. :) Being Valentine's Day weekend and a celebration weekend for my new job, I already know I won't be sticking within calorie range...
Hubby is taking me out to chinese tonight and a movie and Sunday we're gathering at a local irish pub for some ales and a great band..we all know how many calories beer has..
Anyways! I'll write more later, I weighed in today at 211.4 I know people say I weigh too much but curiousity gets the better of me!
Sugar- You still with me?! Hehe. Hope you guys are well!

I gained 1.6 pounds! I'm upset, because I have done so good this week. I was surpirsed to gain weight! Maybe I need to exercise more. We'll see what happens this next week.
The only upside is it's a new week! I'll try again!

Hey Wicked ! Hey Allana !
It's nice to meet you Allana! I have been MIA for much too long so I am back ... with a vengeance! These pounds are going to come off if it's the last thing I do!
Now, first just let me say I haven't lacked on the "d-word"ing. If anything I've amped it up a little. I've been buying all of these books that help you make better decisions - and if I had to recommend a few to you ladies.. well these would be it!
(1) "Eat this Not that" by David Zinczenko - Not only has this book been featured on Oprah (aka the first lady of daytime television), but it really is that great of a book! The entire book is set up in categories/sections of food from everything you can think of (energy bars, meal supplements and much to my enjoyment MEAT ALTERNATIVES are even included). Each page features grocery store products, those that you should eat and those that you shouldn't. It really takes the guess-work out of grocery shopping! It even gives tips on produce buying, alcoholic beverages... wait a sec the legal age there is 21 so Allana - cover your eyes! haha If you guys want some example pages I can scan some and email them to you.
(2) "The Fat Counter" 7th Edition by Annette B. Natow and Jo-Ann Heslin - I just about had a heart attack when I first flipped through this book. The book is a few inches thick, and it looks kind of like a dictionary of sorts BUT when you flip through foods are sorted by category (i.e. JAM) and then brand (i.e. Welches) all in alphabetical order (the category coming first and then alphabatized by the brand). Each entry has: (1) portion sizes, (2) calories, (3) g of fat, (4) g of SATURATED fat (aka our worst enemy), (5) g of trans fat (cousin of the evil saturated fat). I know, I know, it doesn't include carbs or any of those nitty gritty factors - but these facts are presented for EVERY product imaginable. AND .. there is a section at the back for over 120 restaurants and their menus. And seeing as this is an American book it has all of your American restaurants like Carl Jr,'s and stuff I've never heard of haha ... I can also scan a few pages from this if you would like.
NOW.. moving on to the next most important aspect .. FITNESS. I've been all about those pop-in dvd's you buy at Walmart (some of which are in the $5 dvd bin). And let me tell you - they are amazing! I found a walking one the other day which means I no longer have to subject myself to bitter cold winds and slush/snow on the sidewalks! I organized my fitness dvd collection the other day and I have about 10 now, which sounds ridiculous, but I find that the most helpful thing you can do is SWITCH UP your fitness activity every few days. Your body eventually gets used to activities you do on a regular basis which really hinders any cardio you can do. The absolute best thing you can do for your body is select 4 or 5 cardio exercises you can do and disperse them evenly over a few weeks...
So Wicked - the treadmill is great but if you are loathing its existence (which I KNOW you are) consider doing something else, or investing money in a workout dvd OR more workout paraphinilia.. OR rework the resistance bands into rotation (I know you have one!).
And Allana - if you are intimidated by doing fitness start off small with maybe a 20 minute walk around your neighborhood. Or.. can I just say, pilates are the best thing to ever happen to a girl with more junk in the trunk. Seriously. If you start off with beginner moves, pilates can really help you tone up as you lose weight (which is really important) AND lengthens/strengthens your spine. I stand up SO much taller now that I have regularly inserted pilates into my workout regimin.
I don't think I'm going to be updating my stats for a while, or at least not until I introduce the measurements I had mentioned to you today Wicked. I think I'm decreasing my weigh-ins and all stats to once a month. Because I'm gaining muscle and toning my weight is hovering over the 290's and it's really starting to discourage me. BUT at the same time, my clothes are fitting looser everyday. Explain that one to me - please haha.
And my revamped fitness plan? I've decided to do at least 40 minutes of cardio 4 days a week, and AT LEAST 10 minutes of pilates everyday. I may increase that at any time, but I feel like I need a bit of flexibility right now.
Welcome again to you Allana, I look forward to us getting to know eachother better. And if you haven't had a chance to read all of the past posts - just to update you .. I am 23 years old, reside in Canada, initially weighed in at 312, got as low at 293 and now I'm hovering in the 290's. My first goal weight is 275 and my ultimate goal weight (a girl can dream) is 175.
Oh yea.. and HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY to the both of you! Hope you and your hubby have something special planned, Wicked (if he knows what's good for him haha)... you definitely deserve a day full of lovey-dovey'ness. And Allana - if you have someone special I hope you have a great day with them. And if not.. well there's nothing wrong with a single, independent woman enjoying VDay with friends or family. I'm spending VDay with my sister .... hahaha
Talk soon!

P.S. - Allana, if you have gained a little weight don't get discouraged! When you initially start to lose weight it comes off SO FAST, but eventually you hit the plateau and have to work that much harder to keep the momentum going. Not only that, but depending on when you weigh in you could be retaining a lot of water (especially since I see that you are drinking a ton to begin with). Also, if your fitness regimen includes elements that help you tone as you lose weight REMEMBER that muscle weighs MORE than fat. So if you've started to gain any muscle it will initially look as though you are gaining weight. The scale isn't smart enough to separate body fat from muscle... although there are some out there that can.
But the bottom line is - take the number on the scale with a grain of salt and consider ALL of the abovementioned factors that contribute to your overall potential weight gain. Don't lose faith!

Hey girls!
I would usually give up at this point after gaining, but I got this sudden burst of motivation. I hate very healthy the last two days AND I exercised both days! Friday I walked for about 20 minutes, and today I walked for 30 minutes! I rewarded myself by going to a movie with my boyfriend, and I didn't even buy any snacks! Yay! I am definitely hoping for the best this week.
And I think I lost calories by laughing so hard! My nephew, who is a year old is learning his animal sounds. I'd say 'what's a cow say?" and he'd say "mmm". lol And then I said "Okay, what's daddy say?" and he started making fart noises! I laughed so hard and then he would just giggle and giggle. It was great motivation, because he's the whole reason I am doing this! lol
Sugar- I'm so glad you finally posted. I have been wondering about you for awhile. lol Hope everything is well for you. I have come to realize that even though I'm usually very hungry for lunch, I realize if I don't order a lot of food I won't eat alot. I only eat what I have. That was uplifting. I just have to remember that. And exercising isn't so bad! lol Thanks for the support!
Wicked- So, was the Valentine's dinner good? I hope you enjoyed it and I hope you are back on track tomorrow! One day of just enjoying life is very important, as long as you have the willpower to shrug it off. Hope everything is going well for you! Hope to talk to you soon!

I can't wait til Friday. I feel so good about myself, and I feel like I have been doing so great. I hope I lose some.
I ate really good today. I had a chicken sandwich for lunch and a bowl of soup for dinner with a small fruit salad. Now I only ate like 700 calories today, but I'm not hungry. I woke up at 10, had lunch at 3, had dinner at 8. Now, it's midnight and I'm ready for bed. Is 700 too little? I am sure I will eat more tomorrow, but I don't want to be eating to little.
I did not exercise. I did make a CD of some upbeat songs to exercise to though. I will more than likely exercise tomorrow to that CD. It's about 30 minutes long, so I'll know that I did 30 minutes.
Hope all is well for you both!

Hey Wicked ! Hey Allana !
Allana - 700 calories is definitely too low! If you were working out that same day I'd be worried... but just remember that you need to take in enough calories that you will have energy to work out and still have energy afterward. And seeing as you're making sure to eat well rounded meals with portion control, you body will need as many calories it can get to stay energized. One of my mistakes earlier on was crash dieting while working out 7 days a week - you get so tired ALL the time! And eventually you want to JUMP off the wagon... So be careful.
Wicked - I hope your week has started off well and congratulations again for the job! I am so very proud of you! How is the working out coming along? Have you started back up yet? If you haven't, try maybe 15 minutes of treadmill today. I'm finally trying to kick my lazy butt in gear and start working out more regularly - and you better believe I'll be pushing you to do the same! I think my *new* updated plan is working out Monday through Friday with weekends off. The "4-day-a-week" plan I told you about this weekend leaves me way too much room to opt out of fitness altogether haha And even though I KNOW I will be so tired working out Mon-Fri I need to get myself back into some sort of fitness routine. Anyway, if you can't make it on the boards this week because you are busy with the new job AND the old job (the first week is always the worst!) then send me off a quick email to let me know how you are doing
I did it ladies! I forced myself to get up 3 hours before I have to be at the school for homework and I DID my 20 minutes of pilates and a 3 mile/45 minute walk! I could've sworn when the alarm went off that I'd bail yet again, but I forced myself to do it. You always feel so much more accomplished after you've done it and I even prefer to force myself to work out in the morning just so I can feel this great all day.
Anyway I've gotta get ready for a huge homework day - spring break means nothing when you have THIS much homework to get through haha
I hope you two are doing well, and I hope you both have had a restful weekend. Keep up the awesome work!
Ciao
Suga'.
P.S. - One of my besties that I see everyday told me yesterday that I have lost a LOT of weight. That's definitely the best feeling in the world. And the moral of the story is? The scale means nada when you are gaining muscle and toning! I'm still hovering over the same weight but I look better and better!

Hi Ladies !
I hope you guys had a wonderful weekend! I am actually off-work today, I don't start the new job until next week.. and I had a very big night last night with celebration! Sadly, I ate way under my calories and drank way over.
I had so much fun however, hanging out with a huge group of my ren-faire buddies at an Irish Pub, listening to Faire Tunes. It was such a blast! I took the day off, on the hinge that I'd have a rough morning but thankfully I don't! I haven't exercised yet, but I intend to get back into it this week..if not this very day! We are low on food, so it's quick meals again.. I need to go to the grocery and at least get some things for snacks, else I don't eat enough..
I am glad the two of you are doing so well, I'm so very proud of the both of you!! I am not going to put a time limit on my treadmilling, but rather a distance goal..that way I push myself to do it as opposed to lazily walking for X minutes. I hope this approach will be a good one. And then when I feel the need to be lazy and not devote X amount of time to the tready, I'll just remind myself I only have to go X distance and I can do it quickly, if I just do it!
I'm still not seeing a huge difference in how I look or how my clothes feel.. I have a pair of "skinny jeans" that I can't fit into and they are only a size smaller than my normal pair. I am not going to get discouraged however, I'm going to go at this with a head held high. With working two jobs and helping my husband manage the household, bills, groceries and cooking.. that'll be workout all in itself! So I'm hoping that, plus some exercise will whip my butt back into shape.
Well, folks.. I should be going! I am going to catch a late morning nap; because I am never off work with an opportunity like this on a MONDAY. Hope you guys had a fabulous weekend and are starting the work-week/school-week out right!
Wicked
PS - Hubby and I had a great Valentine's Day . We didn't do anything huge, just spent the day together.. ate out on Friday and just enjoyed one another's company on Saturday, we did some house cleaning to..I guess that was a present to me! Huzzah! *Yippee for those who don't know what Huzzah means*.

Hey Ladies!
Count down to Ren-Fair season, Wicked! haha... I'm glad you had some fun out, and hey you partially compensated for the beer so kudos to you
I woke up early AGAIN this morning and did 20 minutes of pilates and 45 minutes/3 miles of walking... I'm definitely on a roll! My diet has been pretty steady too, I'm STILL a vegetarian and I haven't fallen off the wagon for a binge session yet either! I have probably eaten out a total of 3 times in the past month - which is a HUGE decrease for me. I feel like I'm finally back on track and it feels great... here's hoping I can keep up the pace.
Anyway this is just a short note for my daily progress, it's another long homework day ... with laundry to boot I wish laundry would just do itself haha
Hope you both have a productive Tuesday and talk soon!
Ciao.

I did really good today, and ever since i gained, I have been doing really well.
So, about fitness, how often do you guys exercise. My weeks go from saturday to friday, and I walked Saturday and sunday. Should I only walk one more day? Or would you suggest more? I don't want to walk every day because I'll get tired. lol
Anyways hope all is well.

I suggest that you exercise at least 4 times a week... I'm trying to do 5 right now and work my way up to 7. But it's up to you. And maybe now's the time for you to explore more ways to exercise than walking because once you keep doing the same thing you get bored of it, which is NOT good lol
But good luck! I'm so proud of both of you!

Hi Ladies!
I hope the two of you are feeling well this week!
Allana- I am so impressed with you! Look at yourself and feel proud; when you first joined us.. you mentioned that you weren't exercising, just going to cut calories..and now look! You're walking during the week and really feeling good about yourself, I'm so proud of you and all the steps you're taking! Just don't get discouraged if you see a gain on the scale, muscle weighs more..remember that. Sugar and I have both suffered that loss of willpower when we saw the gain. Though admittedly, she's sticking to her end of things way better than myself lately. Also, I'd walk 4 days a week.. at least, depending on how far you're going. Since I'm only doing a half a mile once or twice a day, I really need to do it six days a week. I think I need to revamp my fitness schedule..yet again. Don't burn yourself out..
Sugar - You rock, girl! Did you get a video to walk in doors? How does that work without an exercise equipment of some sort? Or did you go out and buy something? You always have such great words of encouragement, I need to get off my lazy bum and get on the tready or at least do some pilates.. I've been so lazy, just drained. I think the prospect of two jobs if really wearing me out before I even get started on the second.
So - I start my second job next Monday.. and I'm working at my current one from today til forever with no days off... I am hoping I can get back into the tready or some form of exercise before I start doing both jobs Monday..else I'm doomed, I already know this. I'll be working from 6am-8pm..every day. That's not counting the hour drive I will have between work and home. So technically it's more like.. 5am-9pm every day.. I am really hoping I can pull it off -and- stick to my diet.. I'm still sitting pretty at 212.0lbs. I dipped down to 210.8 but I think that was a scale fluke... hahaha. Anyways, I broke down and had taco bell the other night.. But my gosh I was craving it sooo badly, as was the hubby. So I had a taco-salad and didn't eat the shell.
So, I don't get off til late tonight but I am hoping to hit up the tready when I get in.. I'll check in this evening and let you know whether I failed or succeeded.. :) I think I need to get back into the habit of checking in two times a day, that made me stick to my lifestyle changes, much, much better.. As long as you guys don't mind my long windedness!

Oh and Wicked.. I haven't read your post yet - but what's that website that you log your calories again? I think I'm going to start calorie counting...

Hi
I posted looking for a buddy and wicked witch invited me over here. I hope you don't mind. I have quite a bit of weight to loose but probably am a bit older than you all but have been told I act my shoe size more often (size 5 english size)
Starting weight is 240 lbs
Weight yesterday 236 lbs (weigh in day)
Target weight 140 -160 lbs
I am setting myself small targets of 14 lbs each time which are more achievable I think. I am reducing the fat intake of my diet and am using the Wii Fit to exercise with at home. At the moment I am not very well so the eating plan is a bit topsy turvy because of being quite sice for the past 36 hours.
I will understand if you want to keep your litle group closed but I really need some people who will push me a bit and help me achieve my goals and hopefully I can help you too.

Hey girls!
Ok I plan on exercising tonight and maybe tomorrow. That will make 4 days a week. Then I will weigh in on friday and buy more groceries. I use to hate grocery shopping! Now it's exciting. lol Any tips or recipe ideas would be great! I really like chicken but hate pastas if that helps! lol
Hazel- Welcome! I personally love having lots of people in this group. I love that there is a new reply almost every day. It keeps me motivated. I want to have some good news to tell you all. Today, there was like 5 new posts!
Wicked- I just love your long posts! There great. lol Thanks for all the support. I hope your new job treats you well. I've been at the same job for 5 years, and I'm very burnt out! In our town, there isn't must choice though. That's why I'm going to college to open a business. That way, I can boss people around and do things my way! lol
Sugar- I plan on exercising 4 days a week now. Thanks! Also, I will try to find some other things I like doing. Maybe I will like pilates if I try it. Is it like yoga? Thanks for the support.

Hello Sugar , Allana and Haze !!
I would say "Ladies" but I am not sure if you are male or female, Haze.. forgive me. I hope all of you had a very good and very productive workday! Wednesday means half -way through the week, yay!!
I came home and got on the tready, just like I said I would.. despite my general exhaustion I feel good that I made myself get on it! I was using the calorie tracker on http://www.livestrong.com and keeping track of exercise, it says that typing burns like 143/cals an hour. It's really hard to believe that and despite that I do that all day; I don't like counting it towards calories being worked off. I guess I'm just funny like that.
Haze- As you might of read, we like to do fitness plans every other week but we've totally slacked off. Being as we have two new members, I would like to suggest that we all post a fitness plan to start on monday and update our stats on monday. If we all do it on the same day, it's much easier to keep track of. It'll be a plan for two weeks, you can include other such goals..calories, personal, fitness, ect. Also include your starting weight, current weight, first goal and overall goal. I think we've slacked in updating and maybe have allowed ourselves all to slip a bit.
I'll do mine monday and hopefully I'll be more able to follow through with the plans for fitness if they are written down and revamped a bit more. I hope.
How're you all?

Hellooo Ladies! And Haze - as your gender has not yet been confirmed or denied (I apologize in advance)
First of all, sorry for the short spurty posts this morning. I was on a schedule that definitely included my 20 min of pilates and 45min/3mile walk. That's right, I did it again! My legs are absolutely killing me tonight though, they better sort themselves out before tomorrow when I do it allllll ova' again.
Also, let me prewarn all of you.. I am a chronic skimmer when reading, so if I misread or give insane advice it's because I never read every word.
Allana - Good luck with the 4 days a week.. I think you will soon find that your walks will get easier and easier. The more frequent you go you will be increasing your body's overall fitness capability - which will translate into one bangin' bod. Binkini season anyone? BUT I have a new philosophy of trying everything once, which I think you will like too. Pilates are cool, especially since yoga scares me half to death. I can barely do a "lotus" position, forget all those things where you throw your legs in places legs shouldn't be. Pilates are much more lower impact and can be targeted to just your legs, arms or core aka your future six pack. Although I may be biased as pilates have zenified me. If you try out yoga please please please let me know what you think and what poses you do. What kinds of exercise do you generally like?
Wicked - I was watching this one episode of "X-Weighted" (I'm not sure if you've seen it) where this chef guy who was trying to lose 40ish pounds worked 14-20 hours a day (seriously, how crazy) AND still managed to work out at least 15 minutes every night. Not only was this guy OBNOXIOUS but he was so very unmotivated to diet. So I figure if that guy can do it.. then you WILL do it! You are a superwoman and there is nothing you can't possibly do! If you make a goal for yourself you WILL achieve it. Start out slow and build your stamina, if you're tired take a day off to recoup, break up your workouts into mangable chunks throughout the day, pile on the physical activity on days off - whatever you need to do to stay motivated .. do it! Canada isn't that far away you know, don't make me come down there and kick your butt into gear. hahaha Oh and PS the walking thing I've been doing is a dvd (like all my workouts haha) they have you walk in place while regularly doing side steps, knee lifts, kick backs, and a host of arm movements with a resistance band. It's the best dvd ever - I'll email you the name if you want... and thanks again for that website - I'll check it out on my next day off!
Haze - Welcome to the group! I hope you are feeling better soon.. and if you need diet help wellll.. check out the website Wicked posted a few posts ago. I'm pretty sure I'll be joining, and we can all "friend" eachother on there. But take it easy and make sure you get plenty of fluids... Dr's orders.
Okay. I am t to the izzired. But I agree with Wicked - I say we do updated fitness plans/stats next monday... which means I will be crash-fitnessing for the rest of the week hahaha. When's the best time in the day for a weigh-in BTW? I usually do mine in the morning after a work out because I haven't eaten yet and I assumed your body won't account for as much "water weight" and such. Any ideas?
Ciao & sweet bikini bod dreams everyone!

Sugar - I personally don't like much exercising. I don't mind walking, and I love the dance dance revolution games, but I don't have the money to buy a system to play them. I don't know of many exercises, so I can't say I wouldn't like them unless I tried them.
Wicked - Good job on walking! I'm so proud! Also, I've been watching your diet on livstrong, and you've been doing so great. I do not count typing or small things like that either. I only count what makes me sweat! lol
Hazel - Hope to hear from you soon! Hope you can clear up the gender question! lol
I have been doing so great! I plan on walking tonight, and My calories have been between the 700 I ate one day and 1400 on all the other days. I am really really hoping for a weight loss this week. I will weigh in on Friday! I will set up my goals and everything on Monday as well!

Hi Ladies I am defenitly female (all woman so my other half says he! he!) sorry I thought that I had already posted that. My apologies. I am 5'5" tall but look much taller for some reason. WIl being sick for the past two days it has halted my eating plan but I am feeling a bit better this morning and going to have a healthy breakfast of cereal and banana and a half ltr of water. My exercise will not be much today as want to feel 100% before exercising again. While not sleeping I have been reading quite a few of your posts and really appreciate the welcome to your little group. I have an engineer coming this morning to check my central heating system so have to move stuff so that he can get near the boiler.
I will pop in later to catch up.

Hey Ladies!
I'm doing so well with the fitness this week.. I did 20min of pilates and 40 min of cardio (not walking) today! I'm really afraid that I won't be able to keep up this pace after my spring break is over ... I've only been working/doing homework everyday so I have time in the mornings to do the hour long work out but as of next week I'll be having 12 hour days at work/school and early early mornings
Allana - I checked out a few websites for you for suggestions to amp up your walking and found this...
Walking
Walking is by far the most popular low impact exercise, but in order to get your heart rate up there are some things you may need to do. - Walk faster. One mistake we often make is walking too slowly to get the heart rate up. Wendy, About's Walking Guide, offers a great tutorial for How to Walk Faster. Picking up the pace can help you up the intensity of your workouts.
- Try interval training. By adding short bursts of speed or an occasional steep hill to your walking workouts, you can increase the intensity of your workouts as well as your calorie-burn. Try one of these Hill Workouts on the Treadmill or one of the Beginner Interval Workouts to get started.
- Use your arms. Make sure you're not holding onto the treadmill and, when you're outside, swing your arms to keep the intensity up. Holding weights as you walk is a no-no (it can cause injury), but consider using walking poles as an alternative.
- Mix things up. If walking is your sole source of cardio, cross-train with other activities to keep your body challenged. Walking is something we do every day and, therefore, we're very good at it. Learning something you're not as adept at can be a great boost to your endurance and fat loss.
And also this one...
Getting Started
If you’re just beginning a fitness program, start slow with a goal of walking for 20 minutes. Before you begin, take a few minutes to warm up your muscles with some light stretching, paying special attention to your hamstrings.
Walk at a pace that gets your heart pumping and you’re breathing hard, but not so hard that you can’t comfortably carry on a conversation. Aim to walk for 20 minutes five to seven days a week and end each walk with more light stretching and rehydrating your body with a glass or two of water.
Step It Up
When you’re comfortably walking 20 minutes at a time, you’ll want to start challenging yourself and, in the process, work your way up to walking for 40 to 60 minutes at a time, especially if you’re walking as part of a weight loss program.
If you walk outdoors, you’ll also want to begin varying your route to include hills or other naturally challenging terrain. Bike paths, hiking trails or hilly neighborhoods are all good choices. To challenge yourself further, pump your arms as you walk or carry light hand weights. You’ll ratchet up the intensity of your walking program and increase the number of calories you burn as a result of working at higher heart rate.
Staying Motivated
When pursuing a walking program, you’ll need to find ways to maintain your motivation. You may want to walk with a friend, write it into your schedule as an appointment each day, and reward yourself when you meet fitness goals. Look for new places to walk so you won’t get bored, and find indoor places (indoor malls, fitness centers, treadmills) to walk in inclement weather.
The only other thing I would suggest is that you might want to invest in a step counter or more importantly a heart-rate monitor.. I haven't had a chance to check these out and price them for you BUTTT I think they should be around $10 if you go to Walmart or something... Or one of those stores you have down there haha Target? But let me know if any of these tricks work for you.. I can't wait until the weather is better outside- then I'll be walking too! Maybe we can do walking dates, Wicked and I did that a few times.... way back when hahaha
Wicked - I hope you're doing well! I'm going to check out that website tonight after work actually and I'll post my nickname later so we can "friend" eachother haha... How are things with you right now?
Hazel - It's good to hear from you! Good luck with the boiler today and I hope you are seriously feeling better soon.. Being sick during this season absolutely sucks!
Welllll I'm off for work so I hope all of you have a great productive day and I'll check in tomorrow!
Ciao!

Hey Girls!
I did great on eating today and am very excited to weigh in tomorrow. I haven't excerised at all though! I did on friday and saturday, but that's it. Then, today I was just ready to go exercise when my boyfriend found out his tax return came. lol So obviously we had to go shopping. lol Anyways, I'm still proud of my two days a week though, because it's better than doing nothing!
Hope everything is going well with everyone. I am actually going to post my stats tomorrow because that's when I weigh in. And I'll make a fitness schedule for next week as well! And I'll think of some goals I want to accomplish! Thanks for everything guys! You guys are so helpful!
Hope to hear from you soon!

HEY GIRLS!
To begin, I had 2 dreams last night where I lost 2.8 lbs and I was so super excited in my dreams! lol Then, I woke up and weighed myself and I lost 5.4 lbs! That means 22.5 lbs lost so far! Forgive me for all the smiles, but I'm finally realizing what I can accomplsih! And it's about time! lol I'm halfway to my 1st goal weight!
Stats:
Start weight: 306.7 lbs
Current weight: 284.2 lbs
1st goal weight: 265.0 lbs
Overall goal weight: 204 lbs
Fitness plan:
My fitness plan is going to start out small. Last week, I did 2 days of walking. I think I will bump that up to three or four days. My week goes from Friday to Thursday, so I plan on walking Friday, Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday.
Goals:
I will walk 3 days this week for 30 minutes.
I will look into pilates fitness dvds.
I will follow my 1500 calories diet.
I will drink at least 64 ounces of water each day.
You guys are amazing! Thanks for the support. I don't think I could have done it without you! Well I'm going to go walk now, because I don't have to work today and I'm very motivated!

Wow what a great loss. I am really inspired by how well you girls are doing and aim to get as good as you are. I don't have any room in my home for exercise equipment but plan to use the Wii Fit and walk as much as my asthma/ lung probs allow. My next weigh in with the nurse is in 10 days time but according to my scales I have lost another 3.8 lbs since Tuesday. I have learned a lot this week by reading your posts and in a week or so I will start to post my exercise plans etc which I am hoping to keep to as I don't want to let myself down by not eating properly and exercising to loose this weight.

Hi everyone. I thought I'd drop by and intro myself. My name is Valarie and I'm new to the boards. I got invited to drop in by one of the lovely ladies here in your group :) The boards have been great so far. Just looking for a place that I can come to for support, knowledge, and motivation, hoping I can also provide the same to someone else. I am so impressed with you guys, with what I have read!
To jump in, I'll post my stats, etc.:
starting wt: 220
current weight: 204.6
1st goal weight: 199
Overall goal: 140
Other goals: Eating 1200-1400 cals/day
Working out 4 times per week (I change it up, so I'm not sure of specific stuff to put here.....I do the treadmill, eliptical, weight training, exercise bike, etc.)
I started 2 challenges if anyone wants to join (on the challenge board: one for the next 3 months, and one over the next few weeks before St. Patty's Day).
Thank you guys so much for having me! I hope I can pitch in with information or resources, support, encouragement, and anything else I can help with.
Oh, and a little about me:
I just turned 28. I work full-time and have recently gone back to school (again). I am divorced but have a great boyfriend, and a new kitty named Jackson. Emotional eating is a problem for me (when stressed) and I have never had the motivation to really stick with weight loss until now.
Again, thanks for having me!
