| I'm 29 and want to loose 65lbs. I currenlty weight 210lbs and am 5'4. This sounds weird but in the past when I looked in the mirror I wouldn't have noticed my weight every time. Recently I started seeing the overweight me. I have become something I never thought I would...overweight. I realized I've spent my entire 20's overweight. I will turn 30 in February and want nothing more than to be healthy. I am in need of someone who has been here or is here for support. My husband is very supportive but doesn't understand what I'm going through. I've started within the past week watching what I'm doing and telling my self that I don't need to clean my plate. (I was able to stop eating tonight at a restaurant with food still left on my plate! lol, trust me that's a plus!) I'm adding water and trying to keep busy so I don't think about food. And did I mention I've accepted that I have a food addiction and will do what it takes to overcome it. Would love to hear from others and suggestions on where to start and tips. Thanks!

Hey =) I know what you mean, I actually recently started asking for half portions and the other half in a to go bag. I eat out often that's how I gained my 60lbs, I want to lose it all by summer I don't know if that is possible. At least you have a supportive husband, my boyfriend is pretty useless when it comes to support and mean towards it all...anyways, I just want to go back to the size I use to be. If you need support you can msg me...good luck to you and hope the best.
Some tips:
Swim even if its just goofing around in the pool, you will have nicer skin and will lose lots of weight. Its a good form of full body work out
Walk uphill burns more fat =) switch your work out every week or 2. Increase resistance and reps ever 2 weeks
Start your morning with a good breakfast 3 egg whites with 1 whole wheat toast no butters cook with pam or olive oil if u dont have pam.
Eat regularly snack on good fats and fruits no bananas or carrots (or very few if u must)
Portion control ur meals, if you snack in between meals you wont be hungry so you wont over eat when it is time for your meals. If you eat whole grain foods you wont be hungry too soon also green tea extracts are good curbing hunger and maintain weight loss.

Sounds like you're off to a good start.
When I'm served in a restaurant, I quietly decide what/how much I am going to eat before I start eating. Then I can enjoy the meal and not fuss about it in my mind instead of enjoying my food.
Often people think I'm saying grace, and hush the rest of the table out of respect.
I'll take respect any way I can get it!
Welcome,
Peter

Very same thing happened to me. In college I gained my weight and I kept it on. Recently I went through a break up and now I am gaining MORE. I too want to lose about 60lbs and I am finding new activities to keep my mind off food. Such as playing the fiddle, cleaning, running around, bowling, etc. Not exercise by any means, but it IS keeping me up. Though I've yet to see a difference, it makes me feel better.

I'm also just keeping busy, not gotten into actual exercise but am much more active than before. My husband works evenings so that is the worst time for the quick, bad meals. I don't feel like cooking for just me and my 5 year old so I make quick things. We do have an inground pool that we should be able to use the first part of June. I'm definatly looking forward to that. Portion control is the biggest problem for me. I have done much better and paid more attention to what I'm doing. I notice now just how much I had been eating.
Peter, I like your dog. I also have a minature schnauzer. Just got him a few months ago and love the personality. Very good dogs.

Hey Jersey,
Just checking your post out. You're looking to correspond with someone serious? I'm your guy. As of today I've lost 81 lbs (since mid July)and I'm not finished.
Believe me, I've tried the "diets" and have lost only to gain it back. My attitude now is not just to loose fat, but to be healthy and that's for a lifetime. Eating right (rather than dieting) and exercise are the keys.
My wife has lost 40 lbs as well so we're serious.
Just let me know how I can help. It's a battle we can win!

Bert - I'd love to know what you and your wife have done and any tips. I am worried I will get discouraged. I learned this week not to check weight daily. I haven't gained but it gets me in a slump if I don't see any progress. I have been walking but haven't gotten into an actual workout. We have a Boflex and I plan on using that once I get more energy. I want this so bad. My son is 5 and I want to be more active with him and feel better about myself. We are planning a vacation for February when I will turn 30 and I would love to give myself this gift. Your progress is wonderful, I admire your strength. Any tips will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Exercise should be easy and fun. Start in baby steps.
But don't wait till you feel energetic... a little LIGHT exercise will make you feel energetic!
Pick ONE Bowflex exercise that sounds fun, and play with it. Figure out just how to do it and any adjustments you need to make... like seat position or whatever. Start with the weight so light that it's rediculous. And slowly increase it just till you start to feel it. Then stop! Make notes of what you did for next time. That's a great start!
Then next time you exercise, do that exercise increasing the weight and/or number of times you do it JUST A LITTLE so it's still easy. Then have fun with another exercise.
Keep this up and keep it easy and fun it you'll start to see progress and love it!

| Thanks, Great idea. It's 11pm here now so I will do that in the morning before I leave for work! I just got a wonderful email from a relative saying they were told that I wanted to do this and they knew I could. Gave me a boost!

Hi Jerseygirl,
Sorry I've been late in getting back with you. Things at work are a little hectic and the past week and weekend have been stressful. No matter. Life goes on.
Everyone has different motivations for wanting to lose weight. We gain it so easily and it creeps up on us and we get frustrated. For us, it was motivation that got us going.
Everyone says that they want to lose weight for their health or to look good, etc., and they're doing this for themselves. These are all good reasons to lose weight but for me it was something else.
I've tried to lose weight for "me" but was never able to keep it off. Last summer my wife and I were on a 2 week vacation at the beach. I bent down to hammer a stake into the sand and threw my back out. For a week and a half I was either on the couch or in bed. When we went to dinner, my wife had to drive and help me in and out of the car. I realized that, God forbid, I could not protect her if we were mugged. I felt terrible. I thought about this long and hard and thought of my kids (grown) and grandson. They still needed me too. My motivation now was focused on my family and not myself. This is what I needed to get jumpstarted. You mention your son and that's great motivation. Be there for him and for your husband. The fact that he's supportive is great.
Think about your motivation for a healthy lifestyle and I'll get back with you about what we've done.
Peter is right; baby steps. For starters, I bought a stationary bike and all I could do was 10 minutes a day. Whatever aerobic exercise you do, try to increase the length of time by a minute each week. You'll be surprised and how quickly the duration will increase.
Hang in there and I'll be in touch.
