Looking for a weightloss buddy who is similar to myself - twentysomething, trying to get rid of that last 10-20 pounds in time for summer! Just need some general motivation, but also to be a motivator myself to help out other(s). I'm not planning for any specific type of diet - simply just good eating and exercise. I need to constantly be reminded 'everything in moderation' !

If there's anyone who sounds like a good match for me please let me know so we can kick some butt together! :shooting_star:

hey kalypso

I'm a 23 yo student and I need to loose 20 pounds.  I'm always active, but the "eat right" part is harder.

I just started the spring challenge, but extra motivation will help.  I think we could be a good match.  What do you think?

That's a pretty funny coincidence, jinx... I did the same thing! Except I bought my target 'skinny' jeans like a year ago and paid good money for them, only to watch them go into hybernation somewhere in my drawers... never to see the light of day. I cry now.

We must fit into our jeans.

Just recently I had to quit the gym for financial reasons, but the good news is I now walk to work because I decided to quit the city bus as well. I get a total of one hour walking in a day, which is not bad, right? What are you doing for exercise right now?

The jeans is a classic piece of clothing for people losing weight... your jeans will see the light sooner than you think.

I'll tell you a little bit about my backgroud.  I've been in elite sport teams in high school (basket ball, flag football and soccer), but still I've never been thin (around 165).  In college, I badly hurt my knee and had to stop everything.  I got 3 surgeries since - the last one 3 years ago.  I've gained 30 pounds and was in very bad shape (I was over 200!).  In summer 2005 I've lost 25 pounds by diet and exercice but when school started I lost track of the eating habits and I slowly gained some back.  My weight has fluctuate around 180 in the last months.

I'd like to go back at 165 and then consider losing some more.  With my muscular body type, the optimal weight would be 145-150.  I'm 5'6, by the way.

Right now, I'm doing kickboxing twice a week (monday and wednesday). I play basket ball on friday. I do stretching and pilates at home every other day (watching tv). And I do some cardio/weight lifting at the gym 0 to 2 times a week.  I might add up some cardio to burn more fat.

I try to eat 1500 cal/day but on high exercice day, I add 100-150 cal to keep the energy level up.

One hour of walking is awesome, especially if you're carrying a big bag with you.  There's plenty of free option for fitness, all you need is fantasy.  There's free workout video on that website, you should check:

http://www.fitnessmagazine.com/

Tell me a little bit more about you.  And where from Canada are you from?  I'm from Montreal.

Congrats on becoming Diet Buddies!

I would like to suggest that you make a commitment to each other as to a minimum amount of time you'll stick it out, or at least commit to informing each other if you decide to quit.

I've been a member of a very successful group, and we've helped each other so much! But I see so many other groups just fade aware... members (rudely) leaving without a word.

Best wishes for success. I'd like to see you do as well as we have!

Montreal? Wow, small world... I'm over here in Ottawa!

Sorry for the lack of speedy response, the snow storm has kept things pretty crazy. I'm pretty much snowed in at this point, it's probably safe to assume you are as well.

I'm really sorry to hear about your knee problems, I can imagine that really must have been a major set-back to your health. I've never had any injuries to disable me from exercise. My problem is mostly my emotional health - especially right now. If I can't get my emotions in order, it makes taking care of my physical needs much more difficult. There's nothing mentally wrong with me, I'm just going through a big 'DOWN' in my rollarcoaster life right now. Everything seems to be such an uphill battle for me, it's hard.

I was doing really good for about 3-4 days last week but I screwed up all over again soon after. I feel like such a failure right now, I have no self confidence or willpower. I need so badly to get out of this funk that I'm in... otherwise I feel that I'll never get anywhere near losing the weight I desire to.

I'm so sorry - I know this isn't inspiring at all... but sometimes just getting it out helps.

Hey. Don't worry about the not speedy answers, I might as well can't reply quickly every time.

My knee is alright now.  Last time I saw the doctor, he told me there's as many chance I hurt my knee again than any one else who never had problems.

It's pretty hard to be emotionnaly stable every day.  I can battle with those feelings alot too.  And it's almost impossible to not involve the good friend food... They don't call it comfort food for no reason.

I realized that I need time to sets in good habits. The first two weeks my every day schedule must be emptier than usual, for the big changes. If not, the extra work (planning meals, exercice) just bring me to exhaustion and I give up and fell bad about myself.  If you don't have time right now to commit to everything, just add up little goals, like eating more veggies, then more exercice, etc.

Hope you're feeling better. Keep in touch.

Thanks for the support! I'm feeling better today and thinking clearly enough to decide what my next move is going to be. I think this week I'd like to come up with a little goal, and that is to start finding some zen in my life so I can get back on track.

Do you do little goals every week? What will be yours for this week? Here's to hoping we can achieve them! :shooting_star:

I've been stepping on the scale off and on a few times over the last week or so and I seem to be lingering around 132, which is a bit of a relief for me because my weight used to fluctuate so much that it felt almost impossible to know what my 'true' weight was. I think it's safe to say I'm about 132 lbs then, which means my goal is to lose about 12 pounds before summer (or at least before my summer vay-kay in June). I got two and a half months, that's a realistic amount of time to lose the weight, I just hope I can stick to my guns.

Kalypso, my actual mini-goal is to count calories and try to be around 1600 per day.

I lost 4 pounds this week (so that makes me 178#), but I'm not that excited cause the scale always go from 178 to 182.  I really have to break that "plateau" and keep going lower than that.  Are you doing the Spring challenge?

My weight goal for that challenge is 172 pounds.  I really want to be in the 160's for my birthday (May 9th).

Spring challenge? Probably not, I think I tried reading it over a bit but didn't decide to do it. Sometimes I feel silly because there are people on this forum who are so much heavier than I am and desire to lose so much weight then I do. I don't think it will take anything drastic for me to lose 12 pounds, it's just a matter of keeping myself emotionally stable enough to stick my fitness and healthy eating habits.

Today feels like another good day, I did well yesterday. How you feel about the coming week? Optimistic? It sure does help when the sun is shining and the snow is cleared!!

How old will you be on your birthday?? :birthday_cake:

I'm turning 24.

I had a good day too.  Just coming back from kickboxing.  Tomorrow I'm going to the hockey game (New Jersey Devils vs Montreal) with friends and we're eating out before... hope I won't screw my good sequence.  I plan to have a chicken fajitas or chicken burger with salad on the side (no chicken wings, no nachos.. will be hard!!)  I won't feel deprived but still eat right, well not so bad.  I'll have to watch the beer intake too, but the price might stop me anyway!

Make sure to ask me what I ate and how many beers I had, please. I'll take that as a little reminder to do good

So, here comes the question... were you good at the game?? I can understand the temptation at hockey games. I remember I went to see Ottawa vs Dallas and it was hard to control myself because everywhere you look there's people sitting in their seats with the most sinful foods! I ended up giving in! I hope you did better though! Who won, by the way?

I realized yesterday why my body feels so sick all the time (and not like a painful sick, just a really disoriented sick) - I'm suffering from dehydration. Sometimes all I ever drink during the day is coffee (or coffee AND pop, if I'm a work). It's awful. Yesterday I asked my chef to make sure I don't leave work without finishing this huge glass of water I poured for myself. It took forever for me to drink, but I finished it and I could really feel the difference. I really need motivation to drink more water, because my addiction to caffeine is making me constantly feel sick - but it's so hard for me to stop. I figure I'll be ok if I drink the proper quantities of water.

Habs won 4-0, and it was an awesome game.

At the resto before the game, we ended up ordering only appetizers and spliting it in 4.  So I had greasy food, but in small quantities.... around 12 nachos chips witch salsa, 2 chicken wings, 2 chicken nuggets, 1 potato skin and 4 celeri branchs (yeah for this one!).  And I had only one big beer during the game.  So it's not that bad.  What do you think?

I got that caffeinated problem as well.  At school, I have coffe during classes to stay awake... and at every second cup I'm telling myself that I should have water instead!

Oi, that's no good... but I can totally relate because I did the same thing when I was in college last year. I figured I would drink less now that I'm working, but unfortunatly the coffee machine isn't too far off from my work station. It's so easy to just grab a cup! I think I did good today so far, only about 2 cups.. and I successfully downed at least 2 cups worth of water as well, maybe a bit more. I'm proud of myself for that much! Hopefully this is will be a growing progress.

I'm not sure about the food you ate at the game because I can't really see the portion sizes, but I trust that you did well if it's much less than you normally eat. I kinda ate a bad thing myself today, two deep fried caribbean patties. So good, but I really should have baked them instead of deep frying them - or rather not eaten them at all.

Have the numbers been any different on your scale lately? I saw 130lbs the other day which is awesome because that means I'm down 2 pounds!

Wow. Already 2lbs... only 10 to go.

I saw 177.5lbs once this week, and the next day I had bump to 179lbs.  My weight varies a lot during the day (and even one day from the other).

My official weight day is on sunday, but I weight myself more than once a week.  I'd like to be at 177 on sunday.  Might add one or two hours of cardio during the week end.

How many glasses of water today?

Not sure, only a couple I think... I had 3 cups of coffee so it outweighs the water, unfortunately. I wasn't planning on drinking that much coffee but a buddy of mine wanted to go out for one so I couldn't turn him down!

Sorry to hear about the fluctuation in your weight, hopefully you'll see a lower number on your weekly weigh-in on Sunday. Do you have a target amount of pounds you want to lose per week? I know that losing 1-2 pounds a week is considered in the 'healthy range' of weight loss per week. I stepped on the scale today and I'm still 130 so I'm totally satisfied with that.

At the beginning of the week we both made mini-goals, the week isn't entirely over yet but would you say you achieved your goal? Mine was to find more emotional balance, I think I did a little bit but there's still much work to be done.

I went back to 178lbs (same as last sunday).  So no lost this week. But it's okay since I had lost 4lbs last week.  I'd be happy to lose 1 or 2 pounds per week.

It will be hard to focus on everything this week because I have a huge exam on thursday.  So mini-goals for this week is to make right food choice and to work out at least twice until thursday.  What's yours?

Sorry to hear that the numbers have stood still, but glad to see your optimistic outlook about the whole thing. Goodluck on your exam!!

I just bought a free weight at Walmart on the weekend and I think that's going to be my new goal this week - to use it at least 3 days this week and get started up on toning my arms and shoulders. It's a 10 lb weight, I won't go any heavier than that because I don't want outstanding muscle form, I just wanna have that 'fit' look when I wear summer clothes that reveal my arms.

Hi there! I haven't heard from you in a few days but I figured it was because you were busy with exams

I did poorly over the last week. Well, that's not entirely true - I was doing good up until Thursday but then just totally bombed the rest of it. I got back to suffering emotional issues and my nutrition plans suffered in the process. I've eaten a whole bag of chips, countless cups of coffee and cans of pop. Throw in some french fries, creamy white pasta dishes, and a bunch of chocolate.

And yet, somehow I feel lucky because my weight has not budged since I lost 2 pounds the week before, so no major damage done - but it still didn't feel good because I know I could've lost 2 more pounds this week if I stuck to my goal. Of course it doesn't help that today will be my 7th consecutive day of work, no holidays or long weekend for me.

I really need positive thinking and motivation, please help!

I've been far from my computer in the past few days.  I have a long and well diserved Easter break (5 days!).  I'm sad to hear you don't have a long weekend.

I made some bad food choice lately (chocolate, wine, cheese, white bread, etc.), and gained 1 pound.  I really need discipline... it's hard to stay on track.

How's your motivation today?  Hope you are feeling better now.

Sounds like we are both in the same boat right now, it's like the blind leading the blind!

The good news is I feel emotionallly well today, I ate decently so far and I'll be walking to work in a couple of hours so I hope I can keep it up. So far my motivation sucks though, mainly because I'm so tired from working all the time. Today will be my 8th day in a row. I'll be looking to take a couple of days off this week because I desperately need to be replenished with sleep and rest.

Don't be discouraged by the 1 pound gain, it could be worse. Because of the holidays I find that everyone tends to over-eat in general. I have faith you'll get back on track though. Are you making any goals to achieve this week? I think that if we always give ourselves some type of small goal to work towards every week then we won't feel so overwhelmed by the big picture.

That sounds awesome, good work!

The only exercise I've had today is walking to the grocery store - but better than none at all, I suppose. Right now I'm majorly restraining myself from having a second dinner. I have MAJOR cravings... pms is not helping either, infact I think it's the culprit for all these sinful cravings.

You think I'm doing well? I dunno, I ate a whole bag of Sunchips last night, lol. I haven't even touched my weights in over a week. If I can just get through this day without gorging on another dinner then I would consider it somewhat successful!

What is your favourite body part? Which part of your body do you tend to focus the most on slimming down?

Answer for me is my tummy, typical choice. If my tummy was flat then I would honestly not care about the rest of my body parts. My problem is that I'm thin everywhere else but I have this MAJOR pooch, my step-dad likes to jokingly call me a pregnant toothpick sometimes. Most of my summer clothes are tighter around the tummy, and look awful on me with my 'buddah belly' so that's what has sparred this weight loss journey for me.

What's your answer?

I think you are doing really good.  Only by realizing your weaknesses, you're making a giant step.  Without a doubt, I can say that you are going in the direction of a healthier lifestyle.

Good news. I'm back to 178 lbs (actually, i'm at 177.8 so that's even better).

Like you, I'm satisfied with my whole body exept my tummy.  I have to lose weight everywhere, but I'd love to have a flat stomach first!  But you hardly lose weight were you want first... too bad!

What's your game plan for this week?

First of all - :shooting_star: CONGRATS ON THE WEIGHTLOSS :shooting_star: even if it only is minimal, it's still awesome! Every little bit counts!

I have honestly probably not been doing nearly as good as it sounds on here, but I haven't given up. I'm seeing higher numbers on the scale over the weekend but have decided to disregard them because I know it's because of PMS bloat and water retention (yay?).

This week is emotional sorting again, but it's looking very good so far. I've made a firm decision to patch things up with my best friend (which was a major source of the emotional problems I was having). I know that once I'm happier, I'll be more motivated to stick to my exercises and eating. Of course, if you have anything happy to say or tell me, please do so! Laughter is great medicine :)

We should have a week where we both have a mutual goal, that would be interesting !

I'm going away for a few days to visit my family so I won't be able to post. Not sure how I'm going to do diet-wise while I'm gone (always so many 'treats' when I visit) but I'll do the best I can. I hope the rest of your week is successful, keep up the awesome work and keep updating on your progress even if you have to make a few posts while I'm gone :bear:

I'm doing good this week.  Just came back from the gym.  I've run a 5K! First time since...first time ever I think.  I'm trying to become a runner.  I've always done sports that involve running (basket ball, soccer), but never run for real.

Scale has not move yet... but we'll see on sunday.

Couldn't weight this morning because no more batteries (aww, electronic scales!).  I suspect I lost some.  I definitivemely feel like it.

Ran 5k outside today.  Spring is here!  It's sunny and warm.  Feels good.

I've made bad food choice during the weekend... pizza, cake and at least 4 beers last night.  I'll have to sweat this off this week!

How was the little break home?

The break was good, definitely something I've been needing for a while now! I have to be truthful, I ate horribly the whole time! I'm going to weight myself first thing tomorrow morning and see just how much damage has been done. :pizza:

Yay for running 5K!! That's awesome! I admire people who can run long distances without even stopping. I'm not much of a runner at all. My plan is to buy a bike possibly this week, if not, next week. I have no goals this week, except to get back on track after being out of town for a little while.

I'm so happy Spring is here, too!!! :sun:

Well I weighed myself this morning and looks like I'm back up to 132  which means I gained back the 2 pounds I lost a couple of weeks ago. I kinda of expected it to happen anyways after the way I've been eating lately.

It's nice to hear you had a good time.  That break is maybe what you needed to put all your energy together to focus on your goals!

Since sunday I didn't find time to have an organized workout, but I've been walking alot.  I weight myself and I'm at 177.5 lbs.  A big 0.3 loss. Better than nothing.  Tomorrow I'm going to the "Cabane à sucre" (I think they call that sugar shack in English, right?).  It will be hard to resist all the good things, so I'll make that the "guilt-free meal" of the week.

Welcome back on track :apple:

Oh, you have a cheat day? I guess I never really thought about having one,  I haven't really created any structure yet in my health regiment. I love the sugar bush! There's absolutely no way I'd go there and not even taste anything so I totally understand if you do!

Something weird I noticed. My scale has been saying I'm 130 again, so that means I never gained weight while I was gone? I guess it must have been a fluctuation at the time. I stepped on the scale today and it said 129.8! I haven't seen my weight in the 120's in SUCH a long time, so it was really nice! I have been doing really well since I've been back so I'm sure that has something to do with it. Your .3 loss is still something to celebrate, better the numbers going down then up regardless of how much it is!

I think I started a new goal this week but it's not really a weightloss thing, more nutritional. I've had this bottle of multivitamins for a long time and didn't really take time so my goal is to take one a day until the bottle is empty. I hope it will help me get all those nutrients I may be lacking! Did you end up making any small goal this week

First, congratulations for the 120's!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

It's more a cheat meal that a cheat day. Roughly every 10 days I can eat whatever I want... but most of the time I end up not overeating that much because I got cramps when I eat too much (around twice the calories intake for a regular meal is what I can get without stomach pain).  I guess my body is going back to normal eating.

A typical day of eating would be :

8am: special K cereals and fruits for breakfast (350cals)
11am: granola bar or fruits for snack (100cals)
1 pm: salad and other veggies, whole wheat crackers and houmus for lunch (400cals)
4 pm: almonds or peanuts for snack (150cals)
7 pm: honey & mustard chicken, asparagus, pasta or rice (450cals)
10 pm: 100calories package oreo cookies with 1/2 cup of milk (150cals)

Total: 1600ish

When I go to the gym, I usually have bigger snack or meal (+100-150 cals)

Your eating plan sounds very good! I always eat a little extra when I know I'm going to exercise as well. I get the 100 cal packs myself, but the special K ones. Oreo sounds good though!

I'm SO happy, I've had such a good week so far! My weight is holding steady at 129lb so I could not be more thrilled at this time, that means only 9 pounds to go!

I'm getting a bike on Friday. Finally! I'm so making plans to bike tons this summer in addition to my walking and free weights. I started using my weights this week and feel great about it. I couldn't have more better things to say, this week has been my best in a long time :rainbow:. And to top it off, the weather has been absolutely gorgeous! I can only hope you have been feeling as happy as I have!

Hey Kalypso!

128! That's awesome :)

Sorry, I haven't been around the computer lately, but everything's okay for me too.

How's the new bike? Ride it yet?  I'm running outside every other day, the weather is so perfect :)

Yeah I rode it today for the first time, I didn't realize just how out of shape I actually was.. and am probably going to feel sore tomorrow.

What have you been doing over the last week? You haven't said much!
