Hi,
I'm looking for a diet buddy or group of buddies who is big on very unrestrictive diet plans, basic good nutrition, and lots of steady, patient determination. I've learned over and over again that for me, very strict diets turn to binge eating as surely as jumping off a 10 story building leads to injuries. I need support that is centered on exercise and on dealing with feelings that drive me to eat when I'm not hungry.
I'm middle aged, married with kids, and often overwhelmed by the juggling match of dealing with kids, spouse, and an exciting but intense career. Regular accountability that focuses on exercise, weight, self care, and monitoring feelings is more likely to advance my weight loss than is a discussion based on "what I ate today."
I hope some of you will join me.

YOur group sounds like just what I am looking for!! Reasonable expectations with good support! I too work 2 jobs, have three kids, and am married with all the pets that go with it. Need to hook up with someone that will tell me to get my butt in gear but also understand that you can only do so much in a day.
Let me know when you get a chance!

So glad to hear from you,Tripleplay. Should we try to "recruit" a few more here? I'm thinking a group of 4 or 5 will stay small enough to keep up with one another but big enough that when one of us really needs to share and the other one is tied up for several days, someone will be around to respond.
But...I'm very new at this...you may know what works better.
2 jobs and 3 kids! Wow. How old are they? I would guess you have to struggle just to spend a moment on line! I'll try to keep my posts short.
Look forward to hearing from you.

Yeah! I have a diet buddy now!!!! Okay.....So I started this last weekend at a weight of 252.5 lbs. I am 5'9" and need to lose 110 pounds in the next two years so I will be a more healthy individual. I am making sure to eat 1600-1800 calories a day.
I had thought that would be hard to do but when you cut out the goodies it is pretty easy...wonder why i thought that part would be hard? But my probem is the excercise. I am stuck for 12 or more hours at a desk so hard to get more excercise thought I have been looking at some stuff that I can do while sitting. There are a couple of things to do that I had not thought of so will start integrating those in.
How are you doing so far and do you know if we move this over to a buddy area or what? It sounds like you are in the same boat I am in.....no time for ourselves.....take care and I will talk to you soon!!!

Yes, I think exercise is a big one for me too. Last year I joined "Team in Training" and actually completed (note, I didn't say "ran") a 1/2 marathon. A big part of my purpose was to get myself addicted to running and thus pass the no-time-to-exercise hump. (WHy is it I always find time to eat?). But I developed so many soft tissue injuries from running that it took two months after the marathon before the pain went away. Somewhere along the way, I cratered... I guess the truth is I love to "run" but running doesn't love me. I tried to convince myself that walking was just as good, but I never came to love it.
Last month, I tried something new. A dance and fitness center opened near my house that has a "ROM" machine. Claims are that the ROM helps you burn 400+ calories in 4 min... a little incredible, but since I can try it cheaply there, I've been doing it now for almost a month. It does give a workout, and is definately toning some places that haven't been worked in a while. So while I doubt I'm burning 400 calories each time I use it (I'm just not getting hungry like you'd expect if I were burning that much), it is definately much better than nothing.
So...shall we hang out here a little longer and see if we can get a group of four or five?

Oh yes, let's hang out here a little more....somewhere there has to be more Mom's in need of a group like us. I will have to look up ROM, i have never heard of that...hmmm..as for running...I wasn't very good at it when I was little kid..but the walking does sound good..hmmm..something else to do once it gets above 0 outside..especially since the dog is getting overweight too this winter..she went from a foundling that was starved to a loved 'well-rounded' pooch...should be 50ish pounds and she is around 57...

Okay, it looks like we are "Timeless Moms" and are moved to the Diet Buddies group. Does that make us official?
Shows what I miss when I don't log in for a couple of days. So, tripleplay, are you also an insomniac? What are you doing online at 1:30 in the morning?
I'm rowing upstream at work and home this week---even missed my ROM workout 2 days in a row . Did make a dance class and some stationary bike riding though.
So far the food is okay...but I really need to be squeezing in more exercise. I don't lose weight without a good workout.
I am guessing we got "moved" because we've spent too long on the "looking" list, but I'd still kind of like a couple more people. How 'bout you?
Are you okay with me inviting others to join us?

Hi! Swimming upstream also..Need to get my butt in gear and start working out. If we can have more of us that would be great! The more the merrier on our journey! I am an insomniac and I also work nights and have a part time job from home during the day so awake 19 or more hours a day....sigh. Someday I will sleep, and I know that is one of my problems with weightloss, i am up all the time and so there are times i just am starving and have to eat something even though i may have eaten just an hour or two before. We have a workout room at my work with lots of equipment as well as my basement is full of the stuff so I don't really have an excuse to not fit 30 minutes in a day....
Note to self...get butt in gear.
Talk to you soon!!!!

Hi ladies, I'd really like to join too if you'll have me. I'm a 33 yr old mommy of 4. I can totally relate to not finding enough time in the day to get everything done, but I'm determined to make time. I am currently 152lbs. I have a gym at work but I only have 30 min lunches so I try to get a 20 min run in a few times a week. I just joined jazzercise and I'm hoping to stick to the program!! I have terrible eating habbits and really need encouragement on eating right. My ideal weight is 1351bs. I'd love to make some progress with the help of Timeless moms. Hope to hear from you.

Look Tripleplay! We have some buddies! Kez and Rox, please tell us about yourselves. Kez, tell us "foreigners" what Truro, UK is like. (I live in the state of New Mexico, US myself...that is in the desert southwest, just north of Mexico. We've almost been a state (in the US) for 100 years, but my European ancestors arrived before any of the colonists who founded the US... There are still more cattle then people in my state, but that is changing in recent years. We are known for our hot foods, and dry land.)
Rox, where are you from? Jazzercise sounds fun...how are you liking it.
Tripleplay, on the sleep thing...have you ever read (or listened to the audiobook) The Promise of Sleep by W. Demment? He has some amazing insights on how sleep patterns influence multiple aspects of health. And guess what...weight is one of them.
I've been a bad girl this week on exercise...worked late too many nights. Hope to get back on track.
Is anyone doing the Spring Fling Challenge? (I am, but not reading all the posts...just posting my weight.)
Okay...kids are calling.

HI and and Welcome to our new members!!!
I live in Minnesota which is darn cold. We have always wanted to go to the UK to see everything but it would take months before we saw all we wanted to see....
I weighed myself ( i know--not supposed to before Monday) but I was thrilled to be down to 243.5!
I will try to go down and excercise in my basement once a day.
I actually bought a jump rope and one of those stretchy things for resistence. We'll see how that goes.
Oh wow, I just heard on the news that the UK is expecting a huge storm this weekend! Hope you come out okay, cornishkez.
And you sound like you are doing great, Rox! Your going to reach your goal shortly!
Seabiscuit, i have heard about that and wanted to check it out. I know my lack of sleep is not helping me..So will try to get 5 hours a day to start and see how everything falls into place.
Anyway, I will talk to you all later and have a great weekend!!!!! We are Timeless!!!!

Wow thanks for that warm welcome. Hey Seabiscuit I too am from "The Land of Enchantment". Born and raised in Albuquerque.
Well so far I'm loving Jazzercise I only got 2 classes in this week because I had Gum surgery and the doc said no physical activity for a few days but I hope to take 4 classes this week. As far as my diet goes, I did better this week although I totally blew it at Olive Garden last night!
Haven't heard about the Spring challenge. Is that the the challenge from Oprah?
Way to go on the weight loss Tripleplay And stick with it Seabuscuit it's a new week.
Gotta go, stay warm and get some sleep.

That's so cool Rox, we're practically neighbors. I was born near Thoreau, moved everywhere as a child (in state and out), and lived briefly in Placitas back when it was a small village. I went to high school in Belen. Don't know if I'd enjoy the traffic in Albuquerque, but I really do feel more at home in the Northern part of the state than down here in 'Cruces. I tell people it is really hard living so far from heaven and so close to Texas .
The spring fling challenge is on the Weight Loss Forums under Challenges. It looks like groups can start "Challenges"...I signed up for this one soon after I posted "looking for a diet buddy". No one had responded to my post yet, and I wanted to make myself accountable and start taking the weight loss seriously, so I jumped in. But there are a LOT of posts...too many to really read and follow what's happening. Just wondered if any of you were in there with me.
Well, I'm off to work out. I want a better track record this week.

Hi Guys, sorry for the lack of response, but my internet has been down. So I've just jumped on the works computer.
The 'storm' didn't really effect me, it didn't quite reach us. It was pretty windy though! I live in Cornwall and I am on the most south westerly point of the UK. It's a really beautiful place here, I love living on the coast.
How is everyone doing? I stayed the same this week. Which is kind of good because it was my partners birthday and I have had a few bottles of wine this week and a few takeaways, celebrating with various friends. I know I could have said no, but I didnt and I've been punished with scales not going down.
Tonight is out last night out with friends, and then tomorrow I'm back on the plan. Starting with plenty of water to tackle the dehydration Im sure I will be experiencing!
Have a good weekend, I will try to get online, I think the net is up and running at home again now. Phew!

Hey all, look what I learned on the challenge group. You can go to the "Tickerfactory.com" and make these free tickers to track weight loss. They have one for waist loss in inches (or cm, Kez) too...I was just too lazy to find a tape measure.
But see, after 35 years of asking for a horse, I finally have one!!!
Anyway, as you can see, I've got a long way to go.
The wind has been wild down here the last few days. It gets to blowing here in the desert and creates a real toxic situation for both my son and I. Our allergies keep us up all night, then we are cranky and difficult all week. Add to that my rapidly approaching curse and it will be a true miracle if I can report a weight loss by Saturday.
So, Kez, are you back on the plan? Glad you had some fun in there.
I'm debating having some fun next week myself. Kids are on spring break, and I have plenty of leave coming. However...I am buried pretty deep at work, and may regret taking time off.
Well, time for this insomniac to try sleep one more time. (How 'bout you tripleplay? Any late nighters recently?)

Hi Guys, how has everyone been? It's still pretty windy here in the UK and some places are getting a bit of snow. I'm just getting rain though!
Well I've had a good week, having lost 4lbs! And I haven't even tried? Which is the best way to lose weight isn't it. Without realising your doing it.
I think the secret this week is that I have rediscovered my love for watermelon. I've chomped through 3 watermelons this week at work. And I have found a new love... Balsamic Vinegar. So I have been eating salads all week.
SO I think my high consumption of lettuce and melon has definately been my key! However, I think that will soon get boring so Im trying to top the diet up with a nice helping of willpower.
I hope you guys are all doing well? And nobody else has blown away. Have a great easter. Not too many chocolate eggs, eh? x

Hi ladies, I apologize for not keeping in touch. Our family has been struck with the stomach flu and colds. I haven't worked out at all. You would think that with my yucky stomach I would've lost a couple of pounds but I weighed in at 152 this morning. I finally got on the treadmill last night for 20 minutes. It felt good! The weather is beautiful in Albuquerque. It's supposed to get up to 76 today. haha (just kidding). I feel for you guys I hate the wind.
Sounds like you guys are doing great. Way to go Cornishkez!!! I wish my love was fruits and veggies and not cheeseburgers.
Love the tickers, gotta get one.
Bye for now keep up the good work!!

Hi Rox, sorry to hear you haven't been so good. There is always a lot of it around this time isnt there? The seasons cant make their minds up.
I love fruit, but I definately love cheeseburgers too. Your not alone there. In fact this weekend I ate a huge easter egg and then had Burger King and a chinese. So by Tuesday I was weighing in 2lbs up. But thankfully today I was back down 1lb and have been good today so hopefully the second one might be gone by tomoz.
Exercise is my downfall. I am soo lazy! I have to be extra strict with my diet because I cant fall back on the exercise to make up for it.

wow, you guys are doing really well considering we are all windblown and soggy and recovering from illnesses. finally in the 40's here. I am down to 243 during the week before horrid time of month...yuck. i become a camel and retain enough water to gain 5-6 pounds but that being said i was 243 at my weigh in yesterday. i have a love hate relationship with my nordictrac. 12 minutes and i am sweating to death, but will increase by a minute a day. the cardioglide is working well and the treadmill at work is a nice break from sitting there.
I love watermelon and could almost taste it!! you are pretty lucky!! mmmm...
snow is finally melting away...will try walking the dog more as she is a little round now too...hehehe
i will talk to you all later...
take care and keep up the good work.

Great to hear so much chatter! Roz, sorry your families been sick.
Kez, great weight loss.
Tripleplay, I am in the camel club with you...I refused to report my weight for the challenge this week.
My kids are on spring break this week, so I took some time off work with them too, and spent much of the week painting a pipe fence we just built. 2 gallons of paint and still only 25% done! I'm telling myself all that painting and sunshine (okay, today it was all wind and dust) should take the place of exercise, but I'm afraid the junk food I eat when I get home too dirty and tired to cook cancels out my hard work.
Something really weird happened this afternoon! DH took both kids to visit their cousins. I am HOME ALONE until Saturday. First time in 10 years! Surprise? I've always considered myself independant, but I'm feeling more than a little lost with no one at home!
I suppose after a good night sleep all will be better.
So...yes, I did eat a chocolate egg or 2 (or 20?)....goal this week is to get back on track with diet, exercise, the works. Guess I'll go drink some water now.
Bye ladies.

you can do it Seabiscuit!!! i can do more than 10 minutes on the nordictrac now without having a stroke...22 minutes today!! going to add a minute a day till 60. then stay there....
feeling stronger with the walking and strength training but only marginally smaller.....takes a long time to gain it and a long time to lose it.
keep up the good work you all!!!!

Tripleplay, GREAT job on the nordic track. 60 min is quite a show! In fact you inspired me.
I've been walking and doing some toning. Sunday I ran about 1.5 miles because I was trying to squeeze in a walk and checked the time wrong---had to run to make it to daughter's basketball game. Anyway, I surprised myself that I was able to jog that far. It made me want to start jogging again (I did a Team in Training 1/2 marathon last summer). However, today my ankles are sore and I'm remembering that the running never did stop hurting, even when I reduced my distances after my event.
I really do love to run, it just doesnt seem to like me much.
Anyway, I'll try to post a little more too..

Seabiscuit, I wish I could run...my knees tell me no no no....when I was younger and only 135 and 5'10" I couldn't run as my knees just hurt and popped like no tomorrow. Doctor's said nothing wrong, but my Dad has the same problem so we never run..so I nordictrack, elliptical, and treadmill with a short incline. I give you a big hand and a bow for running that far!!!!
We are soon to more toned!!! Yippee!! Keep up the good work!

But, my oh my! That bp reading was nice to see....almost fell out of chair and on top of it my resting heart rate was 71!!!! yippee!!!!!
Now let's see if they can get this non weight loss thing going!!!!

Yikes! Don't scare me with threats of bathing suits!!!! I think you were out of tune, too.
So sorry I've been "timeless"again.
Our house is on the market, along with about 7% of the other homes in town. Has been for a year. After 8 months of no shows, it looks like there may be life out there again. But one of the realator's suggestions was to reduce our "home office" clutter. We had 2 computer workstations. Reduced it to one. Now when I do have a moment, hubby, son or daughter are at the computer.
Workouts have been so-so as well. I did do my stationary bike today, and took the kids for a round of tennis yesterday. They actually kept me moving this time, albeit not quite enough to call a workout.
So... question for the day. What do the rest of you do for major "PMS?"
(I have more than my share...I'm told that at least 3 former generations of women in my family locked themselves up in their rooms once a month). Mine is clearly that bad... I often take a day of sick leave at that time. I also dope up on advil, eat like a ravenous pig, and stay wide awake at night. Moan groan.
Diet and exercise do help, as do some herbal remedies I take. But they only do enough to help me "function". I certainly don't "thrive."
Anyway, I'm not trying to complain...rather I'm just curious if anyone else has had symptoms to this extreme and if so, what works to relieve yours.
Timeless, I'll try to check in more often.
How're the rest of you? Rox? Kez?
