Hi, Florida Girl,
Are you out there? I sent you a PM last night; I hope you received it. I am very new to doing any of this stuff online so I'm not sure if I'm doing it right.
I lost another pound yesterday so that is down 6 so far. I wish every week could be like the first week!
I also got on my cross trainer first thing this morning. 550 calories and 3.75 miles. I haven't done any weights yet today because I needed to get to a meeting! I have lots more snow to shovel today too. I guess you don't have to worry about that in Florida!

Yeah!!! 6 pounds is great!!!
I am still at one pound down so I guess you are leaving me in the dust. I need some snow to shovel. I sent you a PM then I went to the gym and did a brisk walk at 3.2 mph for 15 minutes then lower body weights. I am going to cut up more celery sticks for tomorrow's munchies because I want to catch up with you.

Hi, Florida Girl
I sent you a PM. We just need to decide if we are going to use this forum or the PM's.

It's up to you, but if you post here you'll be helping a lot of others!
Many more people read the forums than post in them, and it helps them to know they are not alone.
That's why I started the forums.

Hi, Florida Girl
How are you? I am feeling a bit down this am. I have been sooo good this week and haven't lost a thing since Monday. I'm still down 6. I know this is not unusual, but it is still hard. I really need the reward of seeing that what I am doing is making a difference.
The last couple of days I have been under 1300 calories - probably by too much. I think I need to bump it up but now I am worried that I could actually GAIN weight on 1300, even with the amount of exercising I am doing.
We are having company for dinner tonight. I had planned to allow myself one small dessert (still staying within my calorie goal) but I'm worried about that too.
What is going on with you? Did you make it to the gym again? Keep it up!
I'm going to send you a PM too so check that out.

Hi Anne,
You have done absolutely great with 6 pounds!! As you look at the challenges coming your way this week, do not forget this success. I bet your clothes are a little looser without that 6 pounds. Maybe it's a little more tricky or slower this week, but that fat is no match for you and your friends here on the forum.
How far above 1300 calories was your diet before? Maybe your body is in shock with its' new routine if it is that much lower than what you were doing? Are you are doing a lot of new exercise?
Maybe an extra 300 for a day would jump start it and then go back down? Just a suggestion, because obviously I don't know everything about weight loss or I would be modeling swimsuits right now and not on this forum.
I am about 1.5 pounds down right now in a week and a half of dieting. So you are still leading our team! I wish it was more, but at least it's the right direction.

Anne & Florida-girl,
Want another diet buddy? I'd like to email daily to keep motivated with eating and exercise too. Anne, I agree with Florida-girl, you may need to add a few cals. I'd say another 200/day for a few days then drop it back to 1300 for a few days. I do this, alternating calorie intake thing; it tricks your metabolism. When I'm doing a low cal day, knowing I have a higher cal day planned soon gives me something to look forward too. Plus, Are you drinking at least 60 oz water/day. I shoot for 60-80 oz/day. It really does makes such a difference. JoanRenee

Hi, Florida Girl!
Thanks so much for your messages; they really help me so much!
I have good news - down one more pound this morning to minus 7! We had company for dinner last night. I cooked a healthy meal and was careful. I did have that tiny bit of dessert too. So my calories for the day were 1390. A bit more than I am shooting for but in the ballpark. And I think that you and JoanRenee have a good point about mixing it up a bit so I will try to do more of that.
I want you to know that I am here to encourage you, not to compete with you or see who can lose the most. I think your weight loss is fantastic, especially given what you have already lost. It seems to me that you are right on track for the kind of weight loss that is sustainable over the long term. That is so important because we don't want to keep doing this over and over, do we??? We didn't get where we are overnight and we won't get to our desired goals overnight either. But remember, slow and steady wins the race!
My exercise has not really changed that much other than perhaps I am trying to be more consistently consistent! But I've been a pretty regular exerciser since I was teenager. The best exercise I have found is running. Unfortunately, I was injured 15 years ago (huh, figure that) and have not run seriously since. I was at my all-time thinnest when I was running 30-40 miles per week. If you can run - and especially if you have someone to run with - I highly recommend it. Actually, maybe I should try it again myself when the weather improves.
Good luck and let me know how you are feeling today!

Hi, JoanRenee,
Thanks for your note. Looking for a diet buddy, are you? I'd like to help but before making a commitment, I'd like FG to weigh in on the subject (pun intended).
We are quite new at this and I'm not sure we really know exactly what to do. I do think that FG and I have a good thing going though. I know it is helping me alot to have her encouagement.
One of the things to consider about hooking up with a diet buddy is the time involved. I just joined a little over a week ago and since then, I have started an online journal, this diet buddy forum and FG and I have also been sending private messages. I am close to deciding that I need to give up the online journal and focus on being a diet buddy with FG.
So, you might want to think about whether you think the diet buddy forum is enough for you or if you'd also like more of a one on one with someone. If you want a one on one, then I suggest that you do a posting in the "looking for a diet buddy". Or, if you are OK with just coming in with us, that is fine with me if FG is agreeable.
Maybe you could tell us a little bit about yourself and your goals for weight loss.
Anne

anned,
That's was a great post!
I just started this forum and it's new to all of us. Still trying to find its way.
I'm enjoying my Diet Buddies topic with trimB and Lucky Me. But we're only posting about the sweets we eat. It's pretty limited. So it works fine with three.
If two people are going to enter into a lot of discussion -- which is great! -- three could make it a little too much. But you of course can decide about that.
Some of the long-time diaries have back and forth conversation between two people. If they weren't so established, I'd ask if they wanted their diaries moved over here. But better left alone.
Anyway, you have a good point. It could get very time consuming keeping a diary and a diet buddy and who knows what else. There are lots of other forums that are fun to keep up with and sometimes post it. So we have to find what's right for us.
Anyway, I hope this forum is successful. I think working with another person (or two) gives us a great sense of accountability.
One other point... I originally asked that people make arrangements to become diet buddies via Private Messages (PMs). This way it wouldn't be public, especially if someone said no. But everyone kept posting so I just gave up and changed the instructions. But I confused some people, and they thought they should be diet buddies via PMs.
Sending PMs is of course fine anytime, but the whole idea of this forum is to share in posts. MANY more people read these forums than post in them, and the way I see it... we are helping all these people who read our posts by sharing our struggles and successes.
It helps them so much to know that they are not alone, and, hopefully, eventually they will join us in posting!
Thanks so much,
Peter

Anne and Florida-girl,
No problem if you gals want to just limit it to, you two. And I understand the time-consuming thing.
I joined a group of 3 other women several years ago doing the "Self Magazine Challenge" online. It was fun and interesting as we lived in different areas of the US but had so much in common. It was very sucessful in helping us all stick to the weight loss challenge. I guess I was just looking for something similar.
My start weight was 155 and I lost 2.5# the first week of this challenge. I've had the flu this week and have not exercised as much and not eaten as good. So, I'll be happy with 1# loss, come Monday. I made my goal weight loss for this challenge - 15#.
I do think this online site with the challenges and forums is great. JoanRenee

JoanRenee,
You are welcome to join the forum if you want to give it a try. We will just be posting away as we have time, trying to encourage each other - and you! It sounds like you have a good start. The flu is never fun though even if it does lead to a little weight loss - definitely not worth it!
Where do you live? I live in Colorado and you can probably guess where FG is.

Good Morning , I'm feeling better this morning. Brkft was an oat bran english muffin w/spray butter (don't ya, just love the stuff!) and some strawberry jam. Also a protein shake. Healthy Performance makes a great protein shake for only 70 calories that actually tastes good too. Exercise for today: I'm planning on getting on my exercise machine. I bought this machine last year used for $100. It is an eliptical (no arms movements tho) and a recumbent bike. The seat flips over to convert it from one to the other. I either read or watch something on TV that I have taped, while I do it, to make the time pass quicker. I hope to do an hour, but since I've had the flu, it may be only 1/2 hr. I also belong to a gym. I'll probably get back into my gym going on Monday. I live in PA. JoanRenee

Hi, FG and JR,
Wow, JR, I hate to say it, but your breakfast doesn't sound that tasty! Each to her own, though. I like food - well, maybe a little too much! Yesterday I spent the am in the kitchen making pumpkin muffins (122 calories each) and breakfast burritos (250 calories each). I am pretty good at making tasty, healthy, low calorie things (skills learned over a lifetime of dieting) but they do take more time. It's not generally something you can buy in the store although I've always wondered why. Like why is the burrito in the store 380 calories and it doesn't taste as good? It doesn't make sense to me.
This morning I worked out on my cross trainer for 40 minutes and shoveled snow for an hour. I think I am finally on top of the snow - at least until it snows again. Our driveway is huge and it can get overwhelming. Then, I had one of the breakfast burritos - yum!
The great news is that I lost another pound; I'm down 8 now! Even 8 lbs feels better; I can't wait to get to 35! How are you guys doing? I know you are both a little under the weather. I hope you are feeling great again soon!

Good Morning Ladies,
I'm still feeling a little under the weather from a car accident Wednesday. It wasn't major but enough to make my upper body sore. I showed up at the pharmacy yesterday and found out my doctor had also prescribed streroids! These elevate blood sugar, make you hungry and are the enemy of weight loss!! But I only have to take them for 5 days, so I am going to try to hang in there. I will just eat a ton of veggies. I am going to go for a walk today so I still get in some exercise and hope for the best. I am still at only 1.5 lbs lost, but it is better than gaining.
Sounds likes you are both doing great this morning. Glad to hear you are getting over the flu Joan. Congratulations Anne on another pound. You are really on your way! Sound like shoveling show is a great workout. You will need to buy smaller clothes soon. Thanks so much for the card. It was very thoughtful.
Breakfast burritos sound great. Care to share the recipe?
I have to agree with Anne, I have never really cared for protein shakes. I am too tempted to put ice cream into anything that resembles a milkshake. What I have done is buy those pre-cooked chicken breast strips and grab two or three in the morning so I get some protein to get me going. Now I am mostly eating fat free no added sugar yogurt and some fruit for breakfast.

Anne & FG:
English muffin - Thomas's Honey Oat. I like em. Best when topped with somethin. But if I'd had the choice, of say.....a pumpkin muffin, well now..... you can bet I'd have chosen that pumpkin muffin! I love pumpkin stuff. Care to share the recipe.
Protein shake - Wild berry flavor. I only like a few protein shakes. I agree most are yucky-tastin. Along with most protein bars, ugh. I too, love to eat.....esp sweets....hence my weight problem. I'm trying to increase my protein intake while decreasing my carbs.
I did really well today. I got in an hour on my exercise machine and am now on the down side of the flu. Back to work tommarrow for me.
FG, sorry to hear of your accident, but glad to hear you weren't hurt. JR

Hello, Ladies!
I hope you are both doing well today. I am feeling hungry but am determined not to give in. I don't know why I'm hungry either!
I did a bunch of exercise today - cross trainer, weights, walking. I also dropped one more pound so that is now 9. My jeans feel better as they were too tight before. I think a size for me is about a 12 lb loss - maybe a little more. I will have to lose another 12 lbs before I have to look through my closet for a smaller size.
I keep trying to reinforce to myself that I am not on a diet - this is the way I really need to eat long term. I know how crummy I feel when I eat things I know I shouldn't and they prevent me from looking and feeling better. It isn't worth it!
Bye for now.

Hi, Girls,
JR, a half pound is moving in the right direction. And FG also lost some weight so congratulations to both of you!
I have lost 9 lbs in 12 days; wish I could keep THAT up! I have tracked every little morsel going into my mouth and have been on the cross trainer almost every day - one or two exceptions in the past two weeks.
My goal is 1300 calories per day but I generally have not been eating that much. I am afraid to eat too much early in the day so I don't go over at night. Then after dinner I realize that I am short calories and I think it is too late to eat. So I've probably been under an average of 150 calories per day. I know I could plan everything out in advance but I really dread doing that. It is hard enough to just keep track of what I do! I think I have enough data to get a fairly good estimate of how many calories I should be consuming by mid day and maybe that's all I need to do.
I have also been eating fish for dinner more often. If I opt for chicken or lean beef, that extra 150 calories will be gone in a flash as compared to fish!
I have been managing to sneak in a very small treat most days as well. Like one small cookie. I am trying to retrain myself to be satisfied with small quantities of things. I used to live by "you can eat anything you want as long as you don't eat very much of it" and I think it's true. The problem is, the difference between that and having a weight problem is not that many cookies. So, should you have cookies at all? I'm not totally sure.
Goodnight. I hope to hear about all the great exercise routines tomorrow.

Hi, JR and FG,
Well so much for good news. I gained 2 lbs yesterday so I'm back to 7 lbs! I didn't cheat at all either!
I'm definitely bummed out but I need to keep plugging away. If I keep doing this, I will lose weight, right?

You don't put on 2 lbs of fat in one day. It's like water weight... see the tutorial on salt.
Hope you don't mind an intrusion into your topic!

Hi Anne and Joan,
I was down another pound on Monday morning. Yeah!! Just two gone so far, but it's moving in the right direction. You guys are great support!
Congrats on your weight loss Joan!
Anne, I agree with Peter. It must be water weight. I bet it is gone soon. You have been doing so so well, don't let it get you off track. Keep up your good efforts.
I read your question on the small treat vs no treat. I guess it has to do with self control. If one cookie is going to make you think they are so good you need the whole box, it is probably better to stay away. On the other hand, if you can limit it without indulging in too much, why not? More power to you!
I generally try to stay away because I am weak willed. I will think, well, its been a tough day today, so I really deserve another cookie. I know it doesn't make any sense, but I will find a way to rationalize myself through a few cookies or whatever it is I am not supposed to be eating. It is better to not have cookies in the house so I have to make due with a piece of fruit. Strangely enough, I've never wanted a second or third apple.

Evenin ladies,
Anne, don't get discouraged! You are doing fantastic! I try to weigh myself only once a week; because my weight fluctuates a lot too and I get bummed out when I'm working really hard and don't lose. YOU CAN'T LET THIS DERAIL YOU! REMEMBER WE ARE ON A MISSION!!! WE CAN DO IT!
Re question about treats, "Eat just one?" I struggle with that like FG. I buy low cal treats cause I feel like I just can't stick to the diet if I don't have a small reward every day. Somedays, I have no problem having just one and then other days I really struggle to stop at just one. I just try to keep thinking.....overeating is NOT going to make me feel as good as being thinner!"
Congrats FG, each little bit gets us closer to our goal.
I went to the gym today, even tho I'm still not totally over this nasty flu that's goin around. I went on the eliptical with arm movements for 30 mins, did weight machines (about 10 diff ones) , did 4 sets of 25 abd. crunches on the ab roller, walk/jogged 10 laps around the track (not sure length), then finished off by doing 20mins on this neat new bike machine they got. It is like "virtual reality" or video game. You choose a course and then you watch the screen as it takes you through the ride. It's definitely not easy, but fun. I burned approx. total of 500 cals. Hi, FJ and JR,
How are you guys doing today? I have good news and bad news. The good news is that I was off yesterday about being up 2 lbs; it was actually 1. The bad news is that I was up another pound this morning so the total is still 2! Today is my 2 week mark so I guess I just have to keep focused on the positive that I lost 7 lbs. Setbacks are hard, though. I want so badly to lose weight and be successful!
One thing I am trying to do differently this year is to realize that I am not on a diet - this is really the level of care that I need to maintain with my eating on an ongoing basis. Unfortunately, I am not the kind of person who can eat anything and never gain any weight. I also think that I am probably not going to resist foods I love for the rest of my life. So that is why I am trying to allow for very small quantities of things in my plan that are "special". For example, I want to retrain myself that one small piece of chocolate is it - I can have SOME but I can't have a whole candy bar. To be honest, I would still rather have the whole candy bar - or ten cookies instead of 1 - or 2 glasses of wine instead of 4 oz - but I am still learning. On the positive, on those occasions where I have allowed myself a little something, I have stayed within my daily calorie goal and I have stopped at the "allowed amount".
In the past, when I have gone on diets, I have totally eliminated those hard to control foods. Then, when I go off the diet and am confronted with things like candy, cookies, chips or whatever, I have not had the discipline to limit the amounts as much as I need to. Although I've never been a binge eater, you gotta admit that those things are really easy to eat too much of!
I really do want to be successful. I am doing alot of praying that I will be given the discipline - I know I don't have it on my own!

Good morning, girls!
I have good news to report; after gaining 2 lbs over the last two days, I got on the scale this morning and was down 3. So now that is a total of 10! I am very happy! Thanks for your support - that and prayers kept me going strong in spite of the setback.
I haven't exercised yet today but plan to soon. I was just waiting for it to warm up a bit. It has been so cold here lately. This morning was minus 11 when I got up! But it is a beautiful clear day and so it looks like I may not have to shovel any snow.
Let me know how you are doing!

Hello Ladies,
Glad to hear you have made it to double digits Anne. Way to go! You should be almost down a size now right? You're doing great!!!
Sorry it is so cold there, but I bet it is beautiful this time of year. It is muggy, raining and 70 degrees here today.
I got out and walked today. It still kind of bothers my neck and shoulders to do much of anything, but I figure walking can't kill me. It was overcast but dry so I started walking around the subdivision. It's maybe a mile. Just as I arrived at the farthest point from my house, the sky opened up and it began to rain. So I got to walk back in the rain.
Well, I stuck with my diet today really well. I had yogurt for breakfast and a nice broiled fish and steamed brocolli for lunch. Hopefully, I will be looking at some more weight gone soon.

Hi, All
Today was a very busy day. I had to go "shopping" which is about my very least favorite thing to do. I know, not typical. We live 30 miles from a decent grocery store and so I try to do that shopping every two weeks. It takes quite a bit of planning, especially when one is trying to eat right.
So, I didn't get my exercise in - unless you call walking around stores exercising. A day like today is normally one where I can eat things that I shouldn't. I've even been known to eat a bag of gummy worms on the drive back home, just to "tide me over" until dinner! Today, the only thing I had while out was a small chili from Wendy's. I looked it up before I left and saw that it had 220 calories and 6 grams of fat, so I figured that was easier than trying to pack a lunch.
Now that I am home, I feel like breaking out the leftover Christmas cookies and eating them all! I'm not going to though so I guess that is progress. I can see how this would be emotional eating. Really, I'm #%@&! off that my husband was home all day and didn't do a thing around the house. I spent my evening last night taking down the Christmas tree and putting everything away in boxes but nothing more has been done since I left. The furniture is still in the wrong place, the needles need to be picked up, the bathroom needs to be cleaned, etc, etc. Why is is that some men think they don't have to share in the household responsibilities? Or if they do anything, it is "helping"! Who said this is MY job? I am not a housewife!! Do they really think they don't create half of the work that needs to be done? Does anyone else relate to any of this???
Avatar, feel free to read and post here until your buddy comes back. My guess is she (or he) just got busy with something.
Oh, I forgot... I do think that I feel better with what I've been eating. At first I had headaches, probably from sugar withdrawl but those are gone. It's nice not to have those "oh, I shouldn't have eaten that" negative self talk going on. And I think I feel a little more energetic - although I don't usually have a problem with that overall.

Gee thanks Anne,
Sounds like many of my days...I thought it was from being married to a MAN.I am sorry that your day was so trying. It has to be so hard to not have a closer store to run out and get fresh fruits and vegetables from time to time. Are you on the fl4i diet? Then double what I just said.I sometimes go to the store for something every 3 or 4 days even with menus and planning ahead!
I'm glad to be a part of the group. I noticed my potential buddy has signed onto a website that solicited us thru a pm.I hope I haven't lost her either.
Here is my info: I began jan 1,08 , blew my 3 free days, gained, then lost again.learned something. Eat anything you want does not mean eat ANYTHING you want.
Thanks again for letting me come aboard. You guys are really pro-active.So am I...
I've lost 7.8 lbs and have a goal for 7.2 more lbs by feb 29,08
Thank you Florida girl for the em.and thank you ladies for letting me be a part of your group.NITE zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Hi Ladies,
I got on the scale this morning and lost another pound! That's three down. Hopefully it wasn't a fluke and its back tomorrow. I am really happy since I haven't been doing that much exercise, just walking. I have been eating well. Just finished a snack of red pepper strips and celery sticks.
Anne, I read your post. I can feel your frustration. I think all men are that way. Maybe their mothers raised them like this? To deal with it, I make my husband responsible for things. Early in our relationship he would just throw his clothes on the floor and expect me to pick them up, clean them, fold them and return to the closet. So I said anything not placed in the hamper in the laundry room is not getting cleaned and I waited until he ran out of clothes. When he complained there was no clean underwear for him to wear, I said "That's funny, I didn't see any in the hamper to wash." That night all the clothes were placed into the hamper and I haven't had the problem again. It still didn't make him into a housecleaner, but it helps.
Welcome Avatar. Almost eight pounds so far is really great! Keep up the good work.
JoanRenee, PA is where I was born. I still have family in Phoenixville. Is that anywhere near where you are? I feel for you being around all the Amish food. When I visited, the homemade pie and the family style helpings made me put on weight. But it was good and I was happy.

Greetings Floridagirl. I agree with you wholeheartedly. That's why when my son turned 11 yrs old I told him he was growing up and old enough to be trusted to use expensive machinery and from then own he washed his own clothes, dried, folded and put them away.I washed them for him a month later just because and he hugged and thanked me so much I knew I was on to something. A few years ago I honored my husband with the same trust. He now washes, drys folds and puts his away and has never once asked me again where any of his clothing was.I wash them for him from time to time and boy is he grateful.
Thanks for the encouragement.Today was rough for some reason. Maybe because it was fruit day.So long as I don't gain this week like last,I will be happy.Walked two miles today.
JoanRenee and Ann Hi and I hope you are doing well. It's hard to imagine what you all look like, kinda wish you had a posted pic of yourselves.Have a good day tomorrow.I will be in applegeek workshop and class tomorrow.I will check back tomorrow evening. Kudos to all three of you

Greetings, Ladies
Florida Girl, way to go! Another pound! I'm sure it's not a fluke; you have been sticking to it. Just think what will happen when you CAN exercise more! So how many total is this? I'm still interested in hearing more about how you lost your first 20!
Congratulations on your weight loss, Avatar! What is the fl4i diet? I'm just trying to eat well and keep it to 1300 calories per day. Being careful is certainly more work than just grabbing whatever is in reach. I have to wash the food scale about 10 times per day, at least until I feel like I am really good at estimating. But I don't think I'll try to estimate things like meat - too high in calories. Veggies would be OK to guess at a cup - unless it's potatoes or something!
I am still at 10 lbs but I have been hanging in there. I feel like I am eating well and I like what I am eating. I think the big difference for me is portion control and really limiting high calorie foods. I am interested in what you all are eating too. I hear about the veggie sticks but what else is on the menu? I thought I'd give you a run down of what was on my plate today in case I'm not the only one:
Breakfast:
1 egg, 1pc whole grain toast, 1 turkey sausage, 1/2 tangelo (230 calories)
Snack:
apple (86 calories)
1/2 oz peanuts (75 calories)
1 hershey kiss (25 calories)
Lunch:
light english muffin, toasted, topped with 1 oz light cream cheese and sliced olive (200 calories)
Dinner:
1 turkey bratwurst with 1pc whole grain bread (230 calories)
1 cup sauerkraut (40 calories)
Lettuce & cabbage salad, homemade dressing, onions, red pepper, 1T blue cheese, sliced olive (109 calories)
Snack:
Oatmeal carmelita (bar cookie, 130 calories)
1/2 grapefruit (93 calories)
Grand total: 1218 calories
Let me know if you have any good recipes!

Good Morning Ladies,
Hope you are all feeling great this morning!
Don't forget, for those of us doing the challenge, tomorrow is weigh in day.
In regard to Anne's question, I lost the previous weight doing pretty much what I am doing now. Just making healthier choices, cooking at home when possible, and eating lots of fruit and veggies. I didn't eat less; I just made different choices. When I craved a fattening dessert, I would have a small piece of dark chocolate or some fruit instead. If I had to eat out, I would try to order a salad or a grilled fish.
I know I get in trouble if I get hungry and let my blood sugar get low. Has anyone else ever experienced that weak, shakey, "I have to eat something now" feeling when you haven't ate in some time? So I ate small portions of fruits, veggies, and nuts as snacks throughout the day. I carried a piece of fruit or granola bar for the drive home so I had no excuse to pick up a fattening treat. I didn't make the good choice all the time, but enough to lose some weight.
I also had support with friends at work who were also dieting. We encouraged each other and when I was tempted to eat, it helped to have in the back of my mind that I didn't want to let other people down. I think this made all the difference. That's why I am glad to have you guys to share our weight loss struggles and successes.
Have a good day!

Hi, Florida Girl,
It is great to know how you lost your first 20+ lbs. I always think I have to eat less, less, less. Like now, I haven't budged in three days and I start to get panicky. In reality, I know it's pretty normal but it sure is more affirming when the scale gives you negative (loss) feedback!
Going out to eat is a big problem. My husband really likes to go out to eat and we haven't been once since the first of this month. So, I know the day is coming. One of my big downfalls is bread and butter at a restaurant. I know you are supposed to ask that they just don't bring the bread out but to me, that is the big treat of the whole thing. So I know it's going to be hard and is something I don't have to deal with at home.
I have heard alot of my friends talk about the blood sugar thing. Personally, I have never experienced it. I do get hungry of course, when I have gone too long between meals, but not to the point of feeling shaky. It sounds like you have addressed this well by keeping a healthy snack along with you.
Well, more later! Have a good day, everyone!

Greetings Ladies,
Forgive me if I don't respond to comments.I am trying to catch up on your stories a little at a time, as I learn to manuever within this sight that is wonderful, but much like a maze to me at this point.
Anned Re: FL4I; I'm on the Fat Loss for idiots plan and will become a certified Idiot when I graduate in a year! Ha I love that. I am on a one year plan, and have joined the feb 29th challenge on this sight begun by determinedgirl. Boy can I feel that breathing down my neck! In a good way. Thanks for typing in a sample day. I appreciate it .It looks basically like my menu, only I have not been practicing creativity when preparing my food yet. Soon.
I am on the one year plan to lose, about 50 lbs. I am trying to challenge myself with a new goal every so often. You know it's a cinch by the inch and hard by the yard kinda thinking.
Other Floridagirl..{Haha just had to do that} Congrats on the loss! A loss is so much better than the same as before. I have not experience shaking and I'm borderline hypo glycemic. I have however been very hungry from not eating enough at each of my 4 meals a day ,from gobbling it down and not eating and listening to my body.
Sounds like you need a fruit snack as you mentioned, more often in between meals to assist your blood sugar. Also sometimes you eat something that spikes your blood then it drops(like a piece of candy) that can cause the shakes. You could check out the glycemic index book at the library if not online.I gave it to my cousin who was having the same problem naturally and he said it helped him to understand his situation and it hasn't happen since Of course yours could be a one time thing also.
JoanRenee , You are who I used to be and want to be as I grow on this Final journey in weight loss.I am pretty healthy and eat very healthy 95 % of the time. It's getting back to consistent exercising that is the most difficult for me right now and what I would like for all of you to do is hold me to it. I have rejoined my YMCA and will begin next week with classes and weight circuit 3x minimum a week. If I don't post that I have execised.....hold my feet to the fire and light the match!!!! .....Well inquire at least if I don't.
I will stop typing and leave space fro the rest of you. I'll be glad when I learn to use those cute emoticons to break up the all the writing....may your week be filled with laughter, harmony and success! I won't write so much next time...Honest.

I looked at the Fat Loss for Idiots diet this evening because I was curious. I don't think it is a diet I could do and I certainly don't think it is something I could live with for the rest of my life! I tried Atkins a few times and although the weight came off at first, I didn't feel very good and as soon as I went off, the weight would be back on - fast! I'm really trying to avoid that cycling by creating a lifestyle this time, not a diet with an end period.
The FL4I diet seems to have a lot of fans (as Atkins does) so I wish you lots of luck on it, Avatar! It just has to work for YOU!
My husband's daughter started a calorie restricted diet a year ago and has lost 70 lbs. Her husband has lost 75 on the same eating plan. I have been doing some checking and what I have learned is that it takes 13 calories on average per pound to maintain weight with a sedentery lifestyle. So if you want to be 130 lbs, if you eat 1690 calories per day, you will eventually get there (of course, there are differences in bodies I'm sure regarding the 13 calories number). That would also be a VERY slow way to get to 130 lbs so to lose at 1 lb per week, you need to shave off a total of 3500 calories for the week or 500 per day. This is just an example, but what I am trying to do is 1-2 lbs per week (2 is definitely better) through a combination of reduced calories AND exercise.
My biggest fear with what I am doing is readjusting my meabolism so that I stop losing even on fewer calories. I have heard alot about that and I'm not sure if it is really true or not. I think plateaus are certainly real. But I'm not sure if your body really adjusts metabolism down as long as you are feeding it on a regular basis. I do know that when you starve it, it does ratchet down - I did that when I was a teenager. Well, it's a journey and I'm not at a point where I need to change what I am doing yet.
Goodnight for now,
Anne

Hi, Girls!
Just wanted to let everyone know the good news; I was down a pound today on the scale, so that's now 11! Oh boy! I did the cross trainer this am for 45 minutes and lifted some weights.
Hope you are all having a good day. Is this a holiday for everyone? It is for me.
JR, haven't heard from you in quite awhile... Where are you? At the gym, no doubt!
Florida Girl and Avatar, what is the challenge you are talking about?

Hi Anned,
Thanks for your insights on this topic. You wondered what the FL4I was and now you know. I agree it's not for everyone for all times. This is just a transitional step for me. I am going to a natural hormone specialist in Sarasota. He is also a heart surgeon I take vitamins and minerals and other custom for me stuff.
I choose not to take allopathic Hormone replacements and he and I are working together to adjust my hormones and glycemic balance with food with a natural compound pharmacist for natural prescripts. They went haywire after two surgeries as well as the weight. That is what attracted me to the FL4I and this website with all its people and tools to help me out. This Diet helps also thru affecting your hormones. My Doctor likes the 3 day break every 11days to eat from any menu I choose. It keeps your body from just eating just a certain regiment of food choices indefinitely. I have my blood work repeated after 90 days and we adjust my eating plan based on the results. Now if I could just get back to regular exercise. That seems to be the toughest and I use to be very athletic. Operative word being ...used to be
Finally, I feel great..which was surprising. oh yes I am giving myself a year to lose as opposed to trying to do it by the time of the next occasion in my life,I'm in no hurry.
Thanks for showing an interest. It's nice to have a connection with other supportive women
I am down .2lbs better than a + sign..ha Question of the challenge, of setting a goal for yourself from jan.1 thru feb 29th to lose a certain amt. begun by Deaterminedgirl in the challenges section of this website.
Have a great sucessful week Ladies You are all GREAT!
