Good Evening Ladies,
Hope everyone is doing well. Congrats on surpassing the 20lb mark Anne. That's a great change in your weight and hopefully in the way you feel also. You are doing great!
JoanRenee, Congratulations to you too. You have been doing really well.
I have got my exercise almost back on track. Still not 100% upper body, but I have been doing the gym for lower body weight training and walking/cycling and doing yoga. I am just doing some stretches with my upper body. I may have to go get an MRI for this stupid car accident I was in. I am getting a tingling feeling in my arm and my fingers fall asleep at night. The doctor said that is not a good sign.
My food could be better. Still a lot of eating out, which I don't think can be as good as eating at home. But when I am home, I am doing well. Lots of salads, grilled fish, veggies etc. Those brats sound good. I'll have to see if I can find them here. I don't know the difference between whole wheat and whole grain, but I always thought 100% whole wheat was the bread to buy. I have bought the whole grain when whole wheat is not available, and it seems good. Did they say anything about why to buy one over the other?
I haven't got on the scale this week. I am waiting until Mon and hopefully I will have some good news waiting for me.

Hello, Ladies
I am still confused by the whole grain vs. whole wheat thing. I looked it up on the internet and there are a number of things that come up, but some of it is contradictory. As best I can tell, whole grain is made from the unrefined grain wheras whole wheat is processed and removes what are considered important parts of the grain. The thing is, both are made from whole wheat flour so what I think is happening is that it depends on the degree of processing. I guess I am still not sure about all this - I just keep looking for labels that say "whole grain".
I am back in the mountains after being in Colorado Springs for over two weeks. Yeah! We went to Denver one day and I went off my diet that day - not badly, but I did go off. And I gained two pounds (which I have now lost). We also had several dinners with friends and so it was just harder overall. FG, I really empathise with you having to eat out so much - it is really hard. I'm only down a pound in two weeks as a result!
Today I was really good but struggled with wanting to nibble. I am a great grazer and it's disappointing that this impulse is still there after two months. It would be SOOOO easy to slip back into that mode! I guess some days it is easier to control but today was hard. Maybe it's a hormone thing.
Good luck to everyone this week! FG, how did your weigh-in this morning go??

Hi, Florida Girl and Joan Renee!
I just had to tell you the good news; I hit 25 lbs today! I am sooo excited! Still 10 lbs to go to hit my goal, but this feels like a significant milestone!
Went out to dinner last night and had a caesar salad (dressing on the side) with a very small amount of grilled chicken on top. I did eat bread though! I really wanted a steak but it was worth it to have the loss today.
Hope you are both doing slimmingly well!

Hi girls,
I just got home a little while ago.....back to snow! It's 10 degrees here....brrr
I could not post while I was away. I couldn't get online with my Dad's laptop that he uses there. I did really good with eating and exercising the first 6 days of the trip; then not so good this last 3 days. I need to really get back on track tommarrow. My Mom (she's 75) and I went to the Y there where she belongs, several times. Plus, I jog/walked several days.
I do not expect to have lost. I plan to weigh in tommarrow AM. I just hope I didn't gain more than 2-3 lbs! JoanRenee

Good evening, Ladies
Hope you are both doing well!
JoanRenee, I'll bet you did better than you expected while on your trip. It sounds like you were pretty careful and got some good exercise. It is really hard to lose weight away from home, I think. Holding even is an accomplishment!
We went skiing yesterday - it was fabulous. A beautiful, perfect day and good snow. I felt that I did well skiing too; I wonder if the weight loss may have made it easier. I didn't get tired by the end of the day. I bought a new pair of ski pants last season and have not worn them yet. I put them on and I can take them off without unzipping them! My goal is to never fit into those pants again!
I'm still staying on track, holding at 25 lbs. Still, no one seems to notice. Oh well, I'm not concerned with that, it just seems odd to me.
I'd like to hear how you both are doing so please post! Remember all those great reasons we have to lose weight and reaffirm those to yourself! JR, what was the outcome of the challenge - that was the end of Feb, right?

OK, Ladies, are you out there? It's kind of lonely out here all by myself!
I went skiing again yesterday. The exercise is good but the eating out afterwards is not so good. I didn't gain any weight but didn't lose any either... I think that lots of eating out was a big factor in my weight gain. Even when I make a big effort to be careful now, eating out really keeps me in limbo. I really try not to eat out, but this is real life and sometimes it happens. Oh well. Today I was really good.
How are things going with you two? Any news to report?

Hi, Florida Girl and JoanRenee,
I haven't heard from you guys in the forum in quite awhile and I was wondering what is up. I know that life is busy and it's not always the easiest thing to get on the site at the end of the day but I really think this is important to our collective weight loss. Studies show that this type of support is one of the things that really helps people to lose weight and keep it off. I know that weight loss is something that we all want to achieve so I am trying to urge you both to get back in and actively involved in this great group!
Please don't take this as a criticism that I am calling you to action. We all need a little prodding now and then to get refocused on our goals. Also, I have to confess to some selfishness here; the support that you both have provided has really helped me and I need you back!
If this is really something that you can't sustain right now, I'll be sad but will understand. Just let me know if that is the case so I can find another group to get into.
My weight loss as of Friday am was down 26 lbs. I am away for a few days skiing in Aspen so that is the latest update I have. I haven't been as good as I would like since I got here - you know, the eating out thing. I really hope I don't gain any of this back!

Hi girls, It's been a while. Reason is that my phone lines needed repaired. It was done today. I have not had internet service here at home for 9 days and I tried to post a quick note from work and the system would not let me.
Anyhoo, I'm back on line and will be posting again more frequently. My weight last Monday was 144. I did not weigh in on this morning. I ate bad over the weekend. Way too much snacking. I really need to get focused again. I want to lose 10 more lbs.
I will check in later tonite. JoanRenee

I have not been eating well this past few days. Today included. Started out well but ending day with way too many calories! Must do better. I plan to start to bet back to counting every calorie that goes in, again. Going to gym tommarrow after work. I exercised only 4 days this past week. Not enough. I shoved heavy snow out of the driveway yesterday and I really feel it today in my upper back/neck. It'll be putting some Bengay on it tonite. I plan to try and post something every day this coming week! I need to get back on track! Joan

Hello, Ladies
JoanRenee, you need to recognize your success so far too - 11 lbs if my memory serves me correctly. So congratulations on that! It's good to get refocused too if you are feeling out of the groove. I find that there is kind of a mindset that needs to be in place for weight loss. If I knew how to get that mindset, I'd be rich, famous or both!
So I don't know how you can get it - heck, I can't even figure this out for myself but I know you need it! Maybe it helps to know we are out here pulling for you! It might also help to review all those reasons that you want to lose weight, why it is important to you and why you don't want to put it off. Another angle is to make sure your eating plan is something you can do long term so that it doesn't become a "diet" but simply the way you eat, a lifestyle.
I am back from a 4 day mini trip with two days of skiing. I did not stick to 1300 calories but I am pretty sure that my calories in were less than my calories expended. Even so, I did gain a pound. Well, it probably is not that unusual and I hope that I will be down by tomorrow. I have been pretty stuck on 25 lbs and am very anxious to lose the next 5!

Hi, Girls,
In case you are looking for recipe ideas, I tried one today that I liked. It was a scallop recipe adapted from a weight watcher recipe. As soon as I get a chance, I'll add it to the recipe section on the site.

Hi All,
How is everyone doing? Sorry I have been gone for so long...I was getting over some nasty cold or flu bug that left me just horribly tired. Just my luck...It didn't affect my appetite.
I am down another pound. I would have liked more, but I have to be happy about small victories. And I ate great today and went to the gym, so maybe it will be more soon.
I love scallops Anne. I will check the recipe board. Anyone else have any good recipes to share?
Congratulations on reaching 26 pounds. That is really a great accomplishment. And I bet the skiing will help even more. Have you bought any new clothes yet?
JoanRenee, it sounds like you are coming along well too. 11 pounds is quite a difference.
Talk to you all soon, FLGirl

Thanks for reminding me of some things. I feel rejuvenated this morning. I too, know what you mean about "gettin in the mind set". It's imperative and yet I have never figured out when I do get there, how I got there. LOL.....
My weight is up 2#. But, I know why and know what I have to do.
Not that it's an excuse or anything; but I've been very hormonal this past week.
Why couldn't God have just let us go thru menopause in just say, ONE WEEK or say NINE MONTHS! and be done with it? Oh well....just gotta get thru it!
I just had my toasted honey oat english muffin topped with it pumkin butter.....I had a little chuckle as I ate it....remembering how you thought it sounded so yucky. Have you ever tried pumkin butter? Similar to apple butter, it's not reallly butter.
Also having my coffee.....I buy the sugarfree flavored coffeemate. Just gotta have it. Coffee without cream, is out of the question for me.
Countin calories and getting my water in = MY GOAL TODAY.....one day at a time. Joan

Hi, Ladies,
I'm back in Colorado Springs again. I was good today eating wise but did not have any formal exercise. I am very active though getting work done at the house so at least I'm burning calories.
Thanks for the water reminder, JR. When I get busy, sometimes I forget to drink enough so I'll pay more attention tomorrow.
Good luck to you both!

Hi, FG and JR
Happy St Patrick's Day! I did not go out for any corned beef and beer!
I am really bummed today. Yesterday (Sunday), I got on the scale and finally had a loss after weeks of struggling. I was down 27.5 lbs. The problem was, we also had a birthday party to go to that was an all day affair since it was a two hour drive. I was hungry when we arrived but there really wasn't anything that was good to eat other than raw veggies and that was not enough. I did try to limit the eating but I guess there is no way you can turn queso dip and chips into anything related to a low cal eating plan. So this morning I had gained that weight back and am back to 25. This was really depressing after being on this plateau. I am getting really frustrated.
I guess I just needed to complain!

Hi. Just seems there are not enough hours in the day.
I've been maintaining but not losing. Still can't get in the psyched mode for dieting.
Anne, you have accomplished a 25# loss!!!!! That's awesome. Hang in there you'll break the plateau.
I plan to go to the gym after work tommarrow. I'm doing a trailcare w/e this coming w/e. We work cleaning hiking trails for two days and stay over in a cabin at a local park. I'm looking forward to getting out. Joan

Joan, it sounds like you had a good day. Congratulations! You always remind me about the water... Hiking season is just around the corner!
I have been working like a dog on our house in Colorado Springs. It should be going on the market the first of April. We are traveling back to SW Colorado later today and I can't wait to get there! I have not been doing a good job tracking my food but I have tried to be careful and have lost a little weight (down 28). I think it is just all the nervous energy going into this house.
I bought a new scale! Unfortunately, I weigh 6 more pounds than on my other one. I am still assuming that the overall weight loss is the same but the scales are calibrated differently. I'm going to use the new one, thinking that it is probably more accurate.
Good luck ladies. I'll be back on in a couple days.

Good evening, Ladies!
Ah, back in southwest Colorado today; that feels good! I am taking a trip to visit family in two weeks. I was really hoping to reach my goal by then and I'm going to try but it does sound like a stretch. That would be 7 more pounds in two weeks to get to 35. I did have a pretty long plateau at 25 lbs so who knows. Maybe it will come off a bit easier for awhile - at least I hope so!
I am really trying to focus on my reasons for wanting to lose weight to keep the motivation up. I feel so much better now and I know that will continue as long as I continue to eat well and exercise. I really, really want to be successful at this so I can get out of the trap of feeling down about my weight. And I want to KEEP it off, so this is a lifestyle change, not a diet. (as a sidenote, why is it easier to make a lifestyle change that involves eating bad foods as opposed to the opposite?).
The huge advantage of losing weight is to lose all the negativity involved with being overweight - feeling unattractive, having less energy, being embarrassed, clothes that are too tight, seeing pictures of yourself and feeling disgusted, just feeling "fat". I do feel better physically and mentally than I did three months ago, but there is still more work to be done.
Today I put on a short blue jean skirt that I have not been able to fit into in a couple years. That was a nice affirmation.
So how are both of you doing? Are you struggling? Are you feeling on track? Are you in a rut? No matter where you are today, if you aren't happy with it, tomorrow is a new day!
If you have any tips on resisting temptation while traveling, please let me know! I don't want to gain weight while away!

Hey, FG and JR
Hope you are doing well today. I have big news - I asked Melissa, another member on the site, to join our group! She hasn't replied to me yet, but I hope that she will. I started looking for another buddy group to participate in and found that Melissa was looking for someone as well. I thought it would be fun if we expanded our group. With more of us, there is a better chance that we can always reach someone to share with.
Steve, another member, is also poking around for someone to talk with. He has said that he is not ready to join a public forum but maybe he will be later. I told him how great it is to have the encouragement.
Well, Melissa, hope to see you here soon!

Hello Anne, FG and JR!
I hope you dont mind that I have joined your group! I put a little bit about me on the new member introductions and I'll put some more here.
I'm 28 y.o, 5'5", and, as of today, am 216.4lbs! So far, I've lost 3 lbs, which has gotten me pretty estatic! I have 70lbs to lose and want to get down to betwen 145-150lbs.
Let's see, I am a criminal law attorney and have relocated from new england to Miami, Florida. My husband is from miami, and moved down here to be with him after we were married. I joke with people that I may have lost the battle, but not the war! lol. Miami really isnt for me and I am not happy here. I havent been able to find a job since i have moved here, which has been awfully stressful. I have been working since I was 12 years old! But, I figure that things happen for a reason, maybe I am unemployed right now so that I can focus on my physical and mental health.
I was a pretty chunky girl growing up but lost about 40lbs by the time I started college. I was eating and living healthy, and kept my weight off for about 7 years. After graduating law school tho, I experienced several major life changes, lost most of my friends, my fiancee moved cross country, I had a pretty rough job, and I had some health problems. I gained about 75lbs in about 2 years. Most of it was because of poor eating and absolutely no exericse. I had migraine problems and they put me on migraine medicine which caused me to gain additional weight. I'm off the meds now and am much happier with that.
I hope this answers some questions. I am really looking foward to getting back in shape. I joined the forums because I know I need some support. I dont really have friends in Miami and my husband doesnt particularly have weight issues, so...I did weight watchers over a year ago but stopped when my health was awful.
I look forward to chatting with all of you! you all are doing so great!

Hi, Melissa
Welcome to our group and congratulations on losing the three pounds so far! You will feel better and better as time goes on!
You mentioned weight watchers but what are you doing now to lose weight? It sounds like you are focused on exercising too.
It sounds like you have not let your weight gain go on for too long. If that is true, good for you. My advice is lose it now and don't have that hanging over your head, creating negativity in your life. I started gaining weight 15 years ago and never fully reversed the trend and I have felt terrible about it every day of those 15 years. It's not worth it!! Nothing tastes as good as feeling thin feels!
Hey, FG and JR, how are you guys doing? Let us know what you are up to and how things are going with your weight loss. If you're stuck, that's OK. We are here to encourage each other!

Thanks Anne!
I am counting calories, measuring food, and trying to get back into an active lifestyle! I used to always be doing something active--walking, hiking, biking, swimming, kayaking--and I want to be able to do that again. Right now I am so out of shape that I cant--but I will get there!
I have a real problem with portion control and to listening to my body. I will eat past the point of being full and I eat portion sizes that are WAY too big, especially considering my rather sedentiary lifestyle. I also have a problem with thinking about food constantly! I need to stop that. I know I am an emotional eater, so I am working on that too.
I've just had enough of being out of shape. Being unemployed is giving me time to focus on me--and, hopefully, I'll get there!
How is everyone else doing?

Hello everyone!
I'm out of town for a week so I know I am going to have a hard time getting on the boards and the internet. But, i brought my little notebook with me and I am writing down everything I eat!
I am really struggling with the eating choices, since i'm visiting people that I have not seen in a while, and they want to eat and drink and celebrate! i have been very good about not drinking--i dont need extra empty calories--and am still making healthy choices. At dinner last night I had a salad, with the dressing on the side. I kept trying the trick that I heard about--dipping the fork prongs into the salad dressing itself, and eating the greens, instead of dumping the whole dressing onto the salad. That worked pretty well. i didnt drink much water yesterday because didnt want to have to pee while on a plane and while stuck in a car. So I am drinking a lot now!
I hope everyone is doing great!

Hello, Ladies
How is everyone doing out there?
Melissa, I agree that traveling is tough. I hope you do really well this week so you can motivate me to do the same when I go to visit family for two weeks later this month! So I am counting on you; if you can do it, then I can do it!!
I do the salad dressing dipping myself and find that it works just fine. I also make a dresssing myself that tosses very easily into a salad and goes a long way so you might want to try that when you return. I posted it to the recipe site.
Speaking of recipes, FG, I still need to post that scallops recipe. I really forgot about it!
We have had company the last couple of days. I've tried hard to be good but have not lost any weight. Well, I have not gained any either.
I made corned beef last week one night - sort of belated St Patricks day. I decided that roast meats in general are a problem for me. I love things like pot roast and pork roast and have a tendency to eat tooo much. At first I thought I just better stay away from these things and when I ate too much corned beef, I confimed that. But then later I was thinking that maybe I could just divide the roast up into small portions and freeze it right away so it is not calling to me from the frig. Has anyone tried this?
Melissa, you mentioned the issue of thinking about food all the time. I think many of us have that problem. I certainly think about food more than my husband does, for example and it may go beyond just the fact that I do the cooking. I really don't know how to change that but maybe it can begin to work for you and not against you. When you think about food, try framing your thinking around healthy eating. I read about one woman who lost over 200 lbs; she said that she stopped thinking in terms of "what do I feel like eating now?" and changed it to "what does my body need now to fuel it in a healthy way?". Also, I find that it helps me to eat smaller amounts more often in the day because then I am never too far away from my next meal!
Talk to you all later!

Hello Everyone! I hope everyone is doing fantastic!
Anne--I think I am doing ok so far. It is hard traveling and staying with family while trying to stay healthy. I have to eat what they cook, but I am focusing on my portions, calories, drinking lots of water, and not eating beyond satisfied. I am trying to bring a water bottle with me everywhere too!
Wednesday was a pretty good day here. I know I ate a bit beyond my daily calories, but I also work out a bit more than I am used to. I went snowshoeing for about an hour, went snowmobiling for about 45 minutes, and then walked 30 minutes. I think I balanced out my calories. (fingers crossed!)
Yesterday I didnt have a chance to work out. I was in the car for about 6 hours, traveling to visit people. I was really watching my food, however, and wrote down EVERYTHING that passed my lips. My mother is also eating much healthier, on weight watchers, so she is good motivation! she's lost 21 lbs and is doing great.
Today the weather is awful so I dont think I will be able to go outside for a walk. Thats a little disapointing, but I will do my best to do some floor exercises once the company leaves. I've eaten a healthy breakfast and will make myself drink two full glasses of water before I eat any lunch! I think the trick is to keep myself busy--otherwise I will be munching from the fridge all day long!
Tonite a girlfriend wants to go out to eat Mexican and to have margaritas. I dont want empty calories from a margarita and i am not sure what I can eat in a Mexican restaurant that wont be awful. I was thinking of a salad, but without all of the cheese, dressing on the side. I will automatically half the restaurant food too, since I know the portions are at least twice the size of a 'normal' meal. Wish me luck!
I hope everyone is doing great!

Hi, Everyone!
Melissa, it sounds like you are really watching things - I'm sure it will pay off for you! I was skiing yesterday and ate a taco salad at lunch. It had chicken instead of beef and not much cheese - lots of nice greens. I ate the dolop of sour cream and the guacamole with it and it was very yummy. Maybe that is something you will be able to find and enjoy. I even ate about a third of the taco shell (gave the rest to my husband)!
I know what you mean about Margaritas! I love them but have had just a couple of glasses of wine in the past three months. I agree that they are empty calories and now food is better. Hopefully we will be able to spluge on these in the future on an occasional basis.
Where are you visiting - back in the NE? It sounds like there is still plenty of snow there.
I had a couple of bad days earlier in the week. Yesterday I was good and today I have been as well. I am down 29.2 lbs and am dying to meet the 30 lb mark!! In the past 5 weeks, I have only lost 4 lbs so it has been going really slowly. I would rather see 2 lbs per week!
Tonight I'm going out to watch basketball at a bar / restaurant. Luckily, we have been there before and so I know in advance what I can eat. That helps as opposed to looking at a menu when I'm hungry and the nachos are calling to me!
Talk to you all later,
Anne

Hi ladies. Sorry, I've been away so long. I've been in a rut! Just can't find my motivation. I've got several personal things going on.....but don't we all. I know it's no excuse. I was 147 last Monday. Down 8 since Jan 1st but up 3 this past month. Goin in the wrong direction. I'm beginning to feel bad (how I feel physically) again.
I've just got to get back on track! My goal is 135.
My exercise has been much less this past 2 wks also. Tommarrow, it's supposed to be upper 50's here and I plan to take a nice walk in the woods near my home with my doggies. I've already got my gym clothes in my car for afterwork on Monday.
I know Calorie counting works! I've got to back to strict counting again too.
Melissa, glad you have joined us. JoanRenee

Hi, JoanRenee,
Glad to hear from you again! I don't think there is a person out there who has lost weight who hasn't lost motivation at some point; it happens to us all so try not to be discouraged. Tomorrow is another day. If you just work on having more good days than bad days, you will reach your goal!
It might help to refresh all those reasons that you want to lose weight. Write them down and keep them on hand to read. Remember how much better you were feeling last month too - so it really is worth it. Summer is coming and you will feel great in your summer clothes at your new weight!
Good luck to you all. FG, what's going on with you?

Hello again, Ladies!
I know I just posted last night but I have great news this morning and couldn't wait to share it. I finally reached the 30 lb loss mark - 30.6 to be exact! I am so thankful to God for giving me the strength to stick with this! I still have 5 lbs to reach my initial goal and then I am considering another 20 beyond that. We'll see because I am in healthy territory now and that will make me pretty thin - but I don't think overly so. When I started this, I could not have dealt with looking at a 55 lb goal.
JR, I have recently been sporadic with my journal and calorie counting. I got back into it and had success - I do think it helps a lot. If you do it and see the scale go down, it might help to motivate you to continue. Just a thought.
I have to keep reminding myself that this is a lifestyle, not a diet. I can't afford to change the basic way I am eating - I will just add a few more calories and perhaps a splurge once a week (if that is not too much).
I pulled a bunch of clothes out of storage last week that didn't fit me before. Glad I kept them because I got rid of a lot of clothes last year - things that I really liked but was tired of reminding myself that I used to be a size 4 / 6. These ones are more like 10's - a little big in the hips but they look pretty good. Anyway, it is going to be fun to have some "new things" to take on my trip later this week.
I forgot to mention last night that I added a couple new recipes to the site - eggplant parmesan and a scallop & artichoke dish.
Good luck everyone!
More later,
Anne

CONGRATULATIONS ANNE!!!!!
THAT IS JUST TOTALLY AWESOME! BYE, BYE 30#!
WHAT CAN I SAY, BUT WOW! YOU GO GIRL!
I am off today, woke up early and have lots of plans for the day. Including hitting the gym. It's rainy here today. I had scrambled eggs with broccoli and one stick of low fat mozz. cheese. It's really yummy. I suggest you try it. I'm going to have a protein shake and drink lots of water today. A big salad later and pork chop for supper. I'm going to really work on cutting my carbs so I can start losing again.
Have a great day! Joan

Hi, Everyone
I had a moment and thought I'd send a quick note. I have started a two week family visit - 4 different places yesterday. I am really worried about gaining weight. Last night I knew we were going out for dinner; the only thing I asked for was a place where I could get grilled fish or chicken. Instead, we were taken to an Brazilian meat house where they walk around with meats on skewers to cut off at your table. There wasn't even a menu to order something else. I ended up asking if I could just have the salad bar and they said OK. Even so, I ate more than usual but I did think that at least I made healthy choices. this was after brining my lunch on the plane and eating cabbage salad, veggies and an apple. Well, this morning I was up over 3 lbs! I know this is right because I brought my scale with me - I know, a bit obsessive - but I did it to make sure I didn't fool myself.
I am going to try to post as I go along for support. First day very bad. I hope it was more from eating late than from what I ate, but I don't know. I have been very good today, exercised for an hour as well, hope I will see results downward tomorrow.

Hello Everyone! Sorry I havent posted--my family computer caught a virus and I couldnt get online. But I have returned home, vacation over, and back to the computer that is amply protected from cooties!
Congratulations Anne! Good for you! your hard work has paid off! I know you are stressed about the vacation and your recent gain, but I know you are going to do great. You have learned how to make healthy choices, have been journaling, have felt the thrill of wearing your older, smaller clothing--you are going to knock those 3lbs right off and will get right back on track.
I have to say, that I didnt do so well on my trip. Too many celebrations and going out. But, I would like to think that i balanced everything out because I was much more active than normal. I got to do nearly everything I wanted--snowshoeing, snowmobiling, 4-wheeling, motorcyling, playing with the dogs, and socializing. I made myself drink lots of water and was focusing on not eating so much that I felt stuffed. I know that I did not do as well as I could have. I was not writing down what I was eating (big mistake) and was not necessarily making the best food choices. Plus, everywhere I went out, my friends and family wanted to eat! and bad food! I made the best choices I could at the unhealthy restaurants.
But, the important thing is, I am back in Florida nad back where i can really monitor myself. I have started journaling again and drinking water and being active. Unfortunately, I was working out to a video the day before yesterday, and pulled several muscles in my back, right between my shoulder blades. (I just dont know how i keep hurting myself. I never was this injury prone before!) So, I have to take it easy, again, and that REALLY frustrates me. I just so badly want to be walking and working out and getting back on track. i just physically cannot do that right now. Argh!
Anyhoo, I hope you are all doing fantastic! keep up the good work everyone! We can do this!

Hi, again
I haven't been able to get on in a couple of days because for some reason, I have not been able to get a wireless connection to work. So I am borrowing a computer now.
Glad to hear that you are home, Melissa, and more back into a regular routine. that should make things easier. Let us know how you are coming this week. Have you weighed in yet?
I lost 2 lbs of the weight I gained here initially. I now think that there was more to this than one night of salad bar and hopefully it will come off somewhat quickly. I was very good today - one egg, 1/2 english muffin and 1/2 grapefruit for breakfast, salad and small amount of soup for lunch, salmon, broccoli and fruit for dinner. BUT we were celebrating a b-day and I had dessert. I didn't have that much but it does feel like it. I guess I'm just not used to having more than a very small treat. Plus it was late when we ate dessert and that didn't help. I also walked for about 2.5 hours today and did a little pilates. So we'll see what happens...
We leave here tomorrow and go to the next set of relatives. this will be my side of the family where I am more comfortable making my own food if what they are all eating is not on my "list". Actually, most everyone eats pretty well but there are always those desserts hanging around.
Bye for now,
Anne

Anne-- I am so impressed with the workouts that you have been getting in while being away from home. Especially the pilates--I found that I was never left alone while on vacation and couldnt work out. Well, except for the couple of times that my mother and I walked, that is. I was expected to entertain so that left little time and ability to walk. Good for you!
Let's see. ..I havent weighed in yet. Truth be told, I've felt that I have gained and yesterday I was awaiting the results of a very important test, and I didnt want to add weight gain stress on top of that! Monday's are generally my weigh in days. I try not to weigh in too much--doing so makes me obsessive. I already have an obsessive personality, so I want to be careful.
I was so excited that today I was able to go for a walk! My back injuries have improved quite a bit--I walked about an hour and 10 minutes. I got a bit sore towards the end of it, sore on my hip where my hip flexor was injured, but overall it felt great. It was a beautiful day--warm but with a cool breeze. It was so nice to get out and walk!
I've been rather good at journaling today. For lunch I had 1/2 a cantelope and some string cheese. I have been forcing myself to drink water--i have a bottle right here in front of me that i will drink within the next 30 minutes. I must say, its a lot easier to drink water in Miami than in New England, where it was quite chilly!
I hope everyone is doing fantastic! Hope to hear from all of you soon!

Hello Hello Hello!
I was just so excited to post--Even after a week's vacation where i was a bit naughty, I have still lost 1lb!!! Whoo hoo! So, I am down 4.4lbs. My mini-goal of 20lbs, so that means I have....15.6lbs left to my first goal! FANTASTIC!
Last night I prepared my meat and potatoes husband a steak, a boatload of brown rice, and some mixed vegetables. I made myself a salad with simple romain lettuce, a sprinkling of reduced fat shredded cheese, 4 oz of pork, and a bare sprinkling of reduced fat ranch dressing. We both drank water with dinner.
I am just estatic! little losses go a long way! whoo hoo! I have been so frustrated by my inability to work out and worried that I couldnt focus solely on my eating habits--BUT I DID IT!
You guys are great inspirations. You have all come so far and have learned great habits--keep up the good work! Joan Rennee--you can do this! Its great that you are doing all of the things you need to do--just dont lose the positive energy either.

Hello Everyone!!!
So, I am starting off today, after getting bumpy yesterday afternoon. I dont know what was wrong with me! I was munching everything in sight! I was craving salt and sugar and in love with a bag of Lay's Kettle Corn chips (by far the saltiest chips I have found!) Then I had about 9 chocolate chip cookies. We went out to dinner with the inlaws, and I managed to rein my behavior in. I drank a full glass of water before I ate dinner, ordered a salad as an appetizer, dressing on the side, ordered a small steak with fresh vegetables as a side. When the dinner came, I halfed the steak, and about 1/3 of that and the vegetables. I ate slow and drank water, and stopped when I felt comfortable--not full.
This morning, I got up earlier and went for an hour walk. I picked up the pace a bit more than yesterday. I am still sore, but definately getting better. Today, I had oatmeal for breakfast, and after my walk had two small oranges. I've been drinking my water and diet soda--and will be goign for another smaller walk later this afternoon. Hopefully with the hubby.
I hope you are all well and doing great! Stay motivated! live healthy!

Well, me again!
I keep having up and down moments. I dont know whats going on. I went for another walk today, a bit slower because I am still hurting, but I just want to eat everything in sight! I think its something emotional...I felt like I was lacking energy too, so I made sure to eat a lunch full of protein!
Well, I am going away for the weekend, and will be back on Monday. Hope everyone is doing good. Hope to hear from someone, anyone, soon!

Hello Ladies,
Melissa, I am really glad to see all your posts! I'm sorry I have not been on; I was at my parents house and there is no connection there. I was thinking I would get to the library, but with all my family together, the time just flew by.
Congratulations on losing weight while on vacation! That is fantastic! I know what you mean about the days when you feel like you want to eat everything in sight!! I wish I had a magic pill for those days. I guess we just have to focus on the goal and keep busy (away from food) as much as possible on those days.
I am not doing as well as I hoped. I have gained three pounds BUT I am still hoping to lose them before going home at the end of this week. I have managed to get in a good walk every two out of three days so I am not totally vegitating. All the sweets around are hard. Today we went out to get ice cream; I had a baby serving in a dish - I'd say it was 1/2 cup so that's not tooo bad. I also skipped the baked potatoes and ate a pumpkin muffin while everyone else was having pie.
We can do it!! Let's tackle this weight and win!
Bye for now,
Anne

Hello Anne!
It sounds like you are doing better than you think. I am sorry you gained 3lbs, but you are making the right choice by having a baby ice cream instead of a regular sized one. And you are right--getting in some walks is better than none at all! Believe me, I know how hard it is to lose weight and behave while on vacation. I fell off the wagon at the end--you'll get back on the wagon at the end! :0 Just try to drink your water and watch the calories for the rest of the time there. I try to chew as much gum as possible when there is a lot of temptation around!
I am doing pretty well, today. This weekend, not so much. My husband and i went off to Disney for the weekend and we ate awful. Huge gaps in between meals so I was really hungry when I finally sat down to eat and I made awful choices when I did eat. Can we say french fries, lots of mayo, bbq sauce, and HUGE helpings. I also did not get to drink as much water as i normally do (too much time in the car). I did bring my fruit with me so that I had oranges to snack on and to eat for breakfast. We did a lot of walking around, so I am hoping things balance out.
Today, I was testing out my sore leg, to see if its getting better. AND i beleive it has! I walked twice today, 2x because the first walk was cut short by feeling sick. Then I did a work out video! AND I wrote down everything I ate--even that chocoalte chip cookie I snuck as a snack. I was right on calorie range today! whoo hoo!
