Good Evening Buddies,

I hope everyone had a positive and slimming day!

I think you'll meet your goal of 12 tomorrow Anne. You are doing excellent keeping up with your exercise and watching your calories. Your progress so far has been great!!Don't go too low though, that may slow you up if your body thinks it's starving.

Thanks for the advice Advatar. I started taking a multi vitamin, calcium, and flaxseed oil  with dinner each night. I've had a kidney stone before when I got sick and really dehydrated. But my doctor doesn't seem to think the calcium will be a problem as long as I drink my water. I hope so. Kidney stones are the worst, worst pain ever, so I don't want to do that again.

I'll see if the supplements have any effect.  Anne, I haven't had that particular problem with calcium. But I took an Rx a few years ago that had that side effect and I ate a few dried apricots every day which helped greatly. I don't know why. Maybe they have super fiber content or something.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the supplements will jump start my weight loss. Even though it has been steady, I'd like a little bit quicker. I can go back to the weight training next week, so hopefully that will kick it into high gear also.

Have a good evening everyone, FLGirl

Good Evening, Girls!

Today is my three week mark; I did not make the 12 lbs, just 11.  But I am still happy with that and feel better than I did three weeks ago.  I really have been very careful and consistent this whole time - no splurges, no out to dinner, etc.  Actually, I am afraid to do something like go out to eat now because I don't want to see the scale the next day.

Thank you all for your wonderful support.  It really makes the whole thing much more bearable, don't you think?

I am looking forward to hearing about how you are all doing.  Avatar, it sounds like you are needing to do some celebrating with your hubby.  I hope you won't get any unpleasant surprises when it is all over and you can share with us how to take a break for a couple days without running into disaster! (On a side note, I thought you were a youngster - how can he be retiring?)

I can see a very thin ladies diet buddies reunion in our future!

Hi girls,   I'm really struggling.  I had expected to lose a few pounds after my big hiking w/e and just the opposite occurred.  Scale went up and I've been bummed.  I've not been doing terrible with eating (consuming about 1600 -1800 cals/day last two days) but not great.  And I know that this is not going to do it for me.  I need to get that super-motivated thing going again.  I stopped at the store today on my way home from work today and bought several Lean Cuisines that were on sale.  I am really going to try to eat these more to cut cals and add more veggies.  I did go and swim laps yesterday but no exercise today.  JoanRenee

Hi, JoanRenee,

I know it is really hard to keep that motivation going and it is so crucial.  If you eat fewer calories than you burn, the weight will come off!  You just have to be patient - I know it is hard!  Remember, nothing you can eat today will taste as good as it feels to be thinner.  Your goal is so in reach; you will be there in no time if you just stick to it.

I gained two pounds about a week and a half ago over a two day period.  I was exercising and eating right but the scale was going in the opposite direction.  I know how discouraged you must feel.  But I just kept doing what I knew was right and all of a sudden I dropped those two pounds plus one more.  I'm sure the same will happen to you as well.

I think one thing that has been helping me so far is that I have been eating things I like.  It does take more work to cook good food, but it helps me to not feel deprived.  I have cookies left over from Christmas and I have even been having one of those almost every day as my ultimate treat.  I didn't even know if I'd be able to eat just one but it has worked.  What are some things that you really like?  If you let us know, among us we might have some good, healthy, low cal recipes.

I think skipping exercise every now and then is OK.  You are obviously a big exerciser and you shouldn't worry about that.  It keeps your body guessing just a bit too.  Interestingly, the last two times I skipped exercise happened to be the days that the scale showed a drop.  So maybe you will be surprised tomorrow am!

We ALL struggle; the thing you need to worry about is just making sure that you are having more "good" days than "bad" days!

Hi, Ladies!

Oops, I hit send too soon!  I wanted to share that as of this morning, I am now down 13 lbs!  I am so thankful that this seems to be working!  I have gained and lost, gained and lost, gained and lost - the same 8-10 lbs over and over.  I feel relieved to have lost more than 10 and to now be pretty close to 15.  For me, that was a tough goal.  I know there is still a long way to go, but I am hopeful.

I experimented with making a healthy meatloaf today but I'm not cooking it until tomorrow.  The mixture is about 1/3 ground turkey, 1/3 lean ground beef and 1/3 veggie mixture.  If it turns out well, I'll share the recipe.

Thanks Anne for the pep talk.  Even tho we know all these things.  For some reason, it helps when someone else reminds us.

Congrats on your weight loss!  YOU GO GIRL!!!

Regarding,  foods I like,   My problem is snacking too much.  ie I love mini wheat crackers.  Sometimes, I have a really hard time limiting snack foods. These are healthy snacks but  I end up eating too many of them and thus too many carbs/cals.  :pig: It's usually when I'm really tired that I seem to let my defenses down and I do this.   I  can't not let myself have any of these foods; cause then I end up feeling deprived.  It's just a matter of me staying "on track and in control",  sticking to the  appropriate size servings.   I know I can do it.  I just need to stop being dumb about it.

You are RIGHT ON TRACK,  about strictly watching/counting everything that you eat/drink.  When I do that, I too have success.  Reading  that you, right now are down 13 #'s!!!!; is a BIG incentive for me to do better.   Thanks   JoanRenee

Good afternoon, Ladies!

Did everyone have a good weekend?  I wonder if Avatar has emerged from the celebrations yet.  And Florida Girl, we miss you!

Well, I gained those last two pounds back! :nono:  So now I'm back to down 11.  I really hope, like the last time this happened, that it is temporary.  I have really been sticking to my "plan" and exercising.  Still, let's face it, going up in weight is discouraging no matter what.

This is going to be my last week of work for awile.  I am taking a planned leave for three months.  One of the things I have to do is go take care of a house we have that we are trying to sell.  I am not looking forward to it.  Plus I am concerned about getting out of my current environment where I am set up in a way that is comfortable for cooking and exercising.  I know that I CAN cook there too, but it is more difficult.  Lack of food, lack of stuff to cook with, etc.  It just takes alot more care and planning.

Today I was light on the exercise - only about 50 minutes of walking.  It's a pretty dreary day with snow expected and I just feel like staying inside and reading a book!

Take care and I hope you are all doing great!

Good morning, Ladies!

Congratultions, JoanRenee, on your loss.  It did come off after all!

I also have good news to report; those pesky two pounds are gone and took another one with them.  So I am down 14!!  Yeah!!

I posted a lower cal version of meatloaf to the recipe board yesterday if anyone is looking for recipes.

I need to go exercise during lunch today so I'll post more later.

Hi Everyone,

I'm here... Sorry to neglect you guys but my life has been busy. I worked Friday starting at 7am, ran a errand and then had a photography class that night until 10:30pm. So I was tired and slept late Sat then spent the rest of the weekend catching up on all the things I should have done during the week but didn't get to. I did go grocery shoppng and load up on healthy food, yogurt, fresh veggies and fruit. :apple:

I am not down any weight, but I cheated on Sunday with ice cream...yum! So I guess I am going to have to work harder to lose some more this week. But I have to say, I am still happy that I am down three pounds overall. It is not a huge loss, but I think my jeans felt a little looser this weekend.:smile::smile:

Congratulations to Anne who is turning out to be our own "Biggest Loser" at 14 pounds. She is doing a great job!! Way to go!!

I will check out your new recipe and hopefully it brings me as much success as you have had.

Great job JoanRenee on your loss. Keep up the good work! You guys are a great motivation to me!

I am on a business trip to the south part of the state tomorrow, so I may not get the opportunity to post. If so, I'll see everyone on Wed. Let's all remember to be strong and stick with our goals! Have a great week. :palms:

Hey, Florida Girl!  Great to hear from you!  I want to congratulate you on the three pounds but I know it is actually much more than that!  You need to remember (and tell us about) your total weight loss since you started!!  Then YOU would be the biggest loser!

I was a little low on calories today so I had a sugar free hot cocoa and a cookie for my treat (the hot cocoa being the extra thing).  It was really yummy and just what the doctor ordered on this blizzardy night!

Isn't this website amazing?  I joined Bob Greene's program on a trial deal (Oprah's buddy) and I like this website so much better.  But I guess to each his own.

Have a great day tomorrow, everyone!

Wow, no one posted yesterday!  I think that is the first time that happened.  Have you ladies noticed that our buddy forum is the second largest on the site, behind "monitoring our sweets"?  Of course, Peter is in that one so we know everyone is going to go there!

Joan Renee, Peter mentioned that you are almost to the point of being a senior member but you need to complete your profile first.  I think your city is missing.

I was reading an article this morning on 7 tips for weight loss. Here they are:

1.  Buy a scale (they also recommend using it every day)
2.  Clean out your cupboards (or at least put the stuff out of view)
3.  Keep a journal & count your calories (I think this helps alot)
4.  Tell everyone (get support from your family, get a weight loss buddy)
5.  Eat several small meals per day (more than 3; 5-6 is fine)
6.  Give yourself treats (don't deprive yourself, make them small)
7.  Exercise!

I thought that was a pretty good list.

Maybe we should tell each other what our toughest challenge is with losing weight and see if we can get some good suggestions on how to handle those challenges.  My toughest challenge right now is going out to eat - either to a restaurant or someone's house.  When you go to someone's house, it is especially hard since you can't order what you want.  In both cases though, I find it very difficult not to overeat.

Today is my four week mark and I am down a total of 15 lbs!  I am so happy about that!

Have a great day, weight loss buddies!

Anne

Hello Ladies,

Congratulations on 15 pounds down Anne. Great job and still going strong!

Good tips on weight loss. I did clean out my pantry in December and took all candy, pre-packaged snacks, brownie mix, etc to a food bank for hungry people.

My biggest challenge would have to be going out to eat and sweets. Sweets are the diet demons.

I have to eat out a lot because I am traveling or in a situation where I can't bring a meal. Sometimes I don't have the best choices available. I try to mitigate this by taking a granola bar or a piece of fruit with me, so I know if only unhealthy food is available I can choose not to eat or only eat a little bit and eat my fruit.

If I get to choose the restaurant, I go somewhere and get a grilled fish fillet and steamed veggies plate. Lots of good vitamins and protein without a lot of fat or calories. And almost all sit down restaurant chains can make this meal. Then I'll have one small piece of bread from the bread basket as my carb for the evening and not even look at the desserts going by.

Now as to the sweets, I wish I knew a way to not like chocolate or ice cream.  If anyone comes up with a way to do this, please share.  If I could just convince myself that they taste horrible, I would already be slim. I buy the prepackaged small squares of dark chocolate and only give myself one every day. If I really, really want something else, I try some fruit or sugar free jello.

I guess Avatar is still celebrating her husband's retirement. Hope you are having a great time! Party a little for us. :martini::birthday_cake::martini:

Talk to you later, FLGirl.

Hi, Florida Girl

Ah yes, sweets; I love them too!  Are you sure you can't develop a loving attitude toward sweets and incorporate them into your daily eating plan in small amounts?  I know this sounds crazy and in the past I never would have guessed that it would work but it really has for me thus far.

Whenever I was on a diet before, sweets were off limits.  When I did get into them, I overdid it.  I am now taking the approach that I CAN have them, just in small amounts.  I have my sweet after dinner and look forward to it!

If you allowed yourself 100-200 calories a day for each treat, there are a number of things you could have like:
*  1/2 cup of chocolate ice cream
*  a skinny cow ice cream bar (they are great!)
*  snack size candy bar
*  chocolate chip cookie with nuts
*  4 to 8 hershey kisses
*  etc, etc

Now that I have given myself "permission" to eat these things, I haven't been as driven to eat it all at one time.  I view it as my stash of goodies that should last me for awhile and when I get low, I am going to get something else.  Here are some of the things that I have in the house:
*  Almond Roca candy
*  other misc chocolate candy left from the holidays (baby ruth, almond joys, etc)
*  Home made raisin / date bars
*  Peanut brittle with chocolate coating
*  Chocolate covered cherries
*  A big hershey chocolate bar with toffee

I plan to eat one of these a day - usually up to 130 calories.  So it might be one raisin bar or one piece of candy - I measure it out.  I'm not saying that I wouldn't like to eat more - I would - but the fact that I can have some takes that feeling of deprivation away that seemed to drive me to eat more.

I think we all have our weak spots and limits so I'm not sure if this would work for you as it has for me but at least it's an idea!  If you really can't deal with any of this stuff around the house, try my pumpkin muffins; they are a sweet and healthy treat.  Also, I saw a recipe on this site for chocolate banana oat cakes or something like that.  They also sound very healthy and a number of people have made comments that they help the sweet cravings.  I was going to give them a try this weekend myself!

I'm sure I'll have a chance to try some of your tips on restaurant eating soon.  I think I better try to stay away from the Italian places (I love Italian!).  Also, I'm trying to envision myself taking one small piece of bread.  What I'd really like is the whole bread basket and then a refill and lots of butter!  Now that I think of it, I should be able to apply the same philosophy to bread that I do to the sweets....  Hmm....  Maybe I should ALLOW myself to have a little bread!

Bye for now!
Anne

Greetings ladies,

Hope we all had a great day. I got a lot of stuff shoveled off my desk at work so I am in a good mood.

Anne, I think that is very good advice. I try to incorporate a little bit of sweets into my diet. I have the dark chocolate squares and frozen fruit bars (no added sugar).  Maybe I could add some chocolate covered cherries. I love those.

But I just can't eat anything really sugary like a piece of cake or full size candy bar without feeling really hungry later. I discussed with my MD and it is a function of blood sugar. It spikes your sugar levels up, you release a lot of insulin, then your blood sugar goes low and you get hungry. The last thing I need for my diet is something that makes me hungrier. :chewing:

Anne, you have so much discipline to be able to only eat one small candy bar or one cookie, I'm sure you can eat just one piece of bread and butter.

Well, gotta run. I am going to try a new yoga tape before dinner. I'll let you know if I am still able to walk tomorrow! LOL!

Good afternoon, Ladies,

Well, FG got her desk shoveled off and I still have my driveway to shovel!

I have the munchies today!  I have not given in, but oh, is it hard!  I keep walking over to the frig, hoping to find something delicious and sinful with no calories.  Do any of you have anything like that around your houses?  I am going to try to make room calorie wise for a few crackers with cheese for "happy hour".  I haven't had real cheese in over a month.  OK, I do really want the wine too but I'll try to skip that!

It does help to write this here - keeps me more accountable!  Don't let me do it!!!  Tie my hands behind my back, wire my mouth shut, whatever it takes!!

Good Evening Ladies,  I've had a very busy week.  I accepted a new position in management  at my work.  But,  I am doing great on my program.  I have kept my cals down to an average of 1300-1500 cals/day.  I do the 5 small meals/day thing.  I loved your list of diet tips, Anne.  I knew them, but it's always helpful to hear em again.  I haven't read you ladies talking about water intake.  I feel it's another vital key in our battle.  I'm averaging 60-80 oz/day.   I've been exercising regularly even with my schedule.  I did an hour here at home on my exercise machine tonite.  I hope to see a drop in my weight below 150 on Monday.  I'm, too thankful for this site.  It's great to read your posts and keeps me motivated.   I, like Anne, have been doing the small treat/day which keeps me from feeling deprived and I look forward to it.  I did have a bad case of wanting to eat everything in site last nite, but I managed to not do it.  Which I felt great about this morning.  Don't you all just hate how you feel the next day after you screw up?

This coming w/e,  I plan to try your Pumkin muffin recipe.  I'll check out the Banana/chocolate one too.  Thanks

Anyone else a pizza lover?  I found a great frozen pizza @ Giant Eagle.  Palermo's is the brand, Primo thin, Margherita.  It's a very thin crust and has lots of tomatoes on top (no meat).  It's only 260 cals for 1/3 of the pizza!  And it tastes great.  I place it directly on oven rack.  Don't cook it too much or it gets too hard.   It's really satisfing!

Anyhoo,  Congrats to everyone and keep up the good work.   JoanRenee

Hello All,

Anne, good job with the will power. You are so strong and motivated! But remember what you told me about having just a little bit so you don't go overboard. You are doing so well, don't deprive yourself of a small amount of wine if that is what you want.

I have been dealing with the munchies too. Maybe our fat cells are finally realizing we are serious about this diet thing and they are not too happy about it.

Congratulations on your new position JoanRenee!  Hope it doesn't keep you too busy. And great job still sticking to your plan while in transition.

Thanks for the reminder about the water. I try to get mine in but I know I could be better at it. I get at least 32 oz in each day because I take it to work in a bottle and drink at my desk, but I know I need more than that. I have also been trying to drink mineral water if it is available. I figure I need all those good things in it like calcium, magnesium, etc and it's kind of like multi-tasking...getting your water and vitamins at the same time.

It's funny, but I just tried the Palermo's margherita pizza you were speaking about. They are very good. My husband and I split one and cut up some raw veggies to munch on for a quick dinner. It was more than enough food. I found them at Costco.

Stay motivated and let's get our exercise in this weekend! Bye for now.

Hi, Girls!

Wow, that pizza sounds good!  I'll have to try it!

Ditto on the congrats on your new job, Joan Renee!  I know it's hard to stick to eating well and exercising when you are really busy but it sounds like you are doing a good job!

Florida Girl, how is your neck doing?  Do you feel like you are fully recovered yet from your accident?  How much are you able to do now?

I've been consistent with the exercise - usually 40-45 minutes on the cross trainer and then lifting weights every other day.  I really need to start working on my stomach...  I am also looking forward to some better weather so I can get outside and exercise a bit.  This has been a very cold winter so far.

I pulled out some jeans that I had put away because they were just too darn tight.  Now they fit well in the waist and are a bit big everywhere else.  It feels so much better when clothes are loose than too tight!  I am down 16 lbs as of today!

I had lunch with a friend today and she would like to join our diet buddies so I hope we'll hear from her soon.  I told her how great this was and how we are all encouraging each other in our weight loss quest!  By the way, I did OK at lunch today; had a grilled chicken salad with very little dressing.  I figured it was about 400 calories so I was still under 1300 for the day.

I tried the chocolate banana oatcake tonight.  Hmm.  I can't say I loved it but I tried it right out of the oven and to be fair, I think it needs to be reevaluated tomorrow once it is cool.  Usually baked goods are wonderful right out of the oven but I think this is a bit different.

So why do we want to lose weight?  I'm sure we each have a slightly different perspective.  For me, every day that I am overweight, it is like a big cloud over my head that I can't get rid of, a constant negative.  I want that cloud to go away.  I want to feel good and feel that I look good too.  I don't want to pick out my clothes based on how well they cover everything up.  I want to be able to sit down without being self conscious about whether anyone can see the fat rolls under my shirt!  Here's to motivation!

Have a great weekend!

Hello again, Ladies

I am down 17 today!  Yeah!  Worked out on the cross trainer 45 minutes, no weights today.

I thought I'd report on the chocolate banana oat cake.  I don't know if any of you have looked at the recipe, but it contains tofu, chocolate protein powder, cocoa powder, oats, bran, bananas and a little sugar.  It is high in protein obviously - intended to be a replacement for protein bars for some.  Of all the recipes on the site, this one has the most posts by a long shot.  Many have tried it and made some adjustments, posting their successful results to the site.  Some of the comments include: "I'm addicted", "Yum, yum", "couldn't live without them", "brownie-like", etc.

OK, so I'll be honest: I have never purchased tofu before.  I didn't even know where to find it, although once I did I realized I had in fact seen it in the grocery store before.  But what is tofu anyway?  Rubberized soy?  I mean, does anyone actually ENJOY eating this tasteless stuff?  But I was on a mission and the accolades from the recipe spurred me on.  I bought it.

Then, I brought it home and made chocolate banana oat cake (bars).  When all the stuff was in the food processor, it didn't look half bad.  I was encouraged, I was hopeful, I was sure this was going to be as good as sex but wrapped in chocolate.  When it came out of the oven, I coudn't wait to try it!  But oh, it wasn't as good as I was expecting.  Realizing that the tofu probably didn't have quite the right consistency at that hot moment, I decided to wait until morning.

I bounded out of bed this morning, weighed myself (yeah, 17 lbs!) and ran to the kitchen to cut one of the 70 calories bars into 4 pieces.  I had enlisted the help of my husband, who will eat anything and is a sweet-aholic.  We sat at the table, coffee in hand, eyeing the four little mini cakes with anticipation.

I sampled.  Still harboring that hopefulness, I told myself that it really wasn't that bad.  It was palatable at least; I could choke it down.  Surely my husband, with his less than refined taste, would think it was perfectly fine.  "Would you like another one, Dear?"  "No thanks."  What??? No thanks??? What did he mean by this?!  This is a guy who puts tuna fish in eggs and LIKES it!!  I have never seen him turn anything down; I'm pretty sure he would even eat rubberized soy!!

So, that was this morning.  It is evening now and the pan of chocolate banana oat cakes still sit with two little bites missing.  I have calories left for the day too; it would have been a perfect ending to the day.

All in all, I can't highly recommend this recipe.  But what really gets me about all this is wanting to know how all those people raved about it.  I feel like I must be living on another planet.  Have they ever truly tasted a brownie?  Have their taste buds gone dim by living on protein powder for the past 10 years?  I think this whole episode may require an intervention.  Perhaps we should bake real brownies and send them out to these poor souls.

I don't know if any of you will try this recipe after my review.  If you do, though, I'll be dying to hear what you think of these things!

Goodnight!
Anne

Anne,   THANKS!   I just loved you last posts.  It felt so good to just laugh as I been running around like a maniac all day catching up on household stuff.  Just got home from work a little while ago and decided to check in.

I am truly amazed that you are able to, day after day, keep your cals below 1300!

I had one day this week that I only had 1200, most days between 1300-1400, and one day I had 1500.

Please tell me some of these very low cal things you are eating.

I only had 30mins to exercise before going to work today (3-11).  So I cranked up the tension on my eliptical machine here at home and did 30 mins.  Machine said I burned 235 cals!   Tommarrow I am off and plan to do a really good workout at the gym.  I do weights 3 X wk.

As for those oat bars,   I think I'm going to skip trying to make them.  But am planning to try your pumpkin muffin recipe tommarrow.  I am also planning to make some cabbage soup.

Do you gals like eggbeaters?   I do and I like to mix lots of stuff in them for variety.

Try:  one small sausage link, cut up into tiny pieces.  One link, gives the eggs a lot of flavor.   Crumbled real bacon.  Cals are not that high on  the pkgs they sell by salad drsgs.   Veggies, onions and peppers.   Another I like is Broccoli and low fat white cheddar.

Why do I want to lose weight?   Well,  some feel that 20# is not that much and it should be easy to lose it; but well..........it's just as tough as someone needing to lose 50!  I just feel so #%@&! at this weight.  I can't explain it.  Some people can feel comfortable being 20# overweight but not I.   I have no desire to be thin.  I just want to be a healthy weight for me.  I love that feeling I have when I am at my lower weight.  I've been there and want that feeling again.

Hi Ladies,

Anne, Congratulations on your loss! You are doing so well. How far are you from your goal? Very entertaining reading about your banana tofu bar experience. I have had that same feeling several times when somebody is raving over some healthy thing. I would rather have one good brownie then a dozen "not too bad" banana oat bars. Could you possibly put the rest of the banana oat bars out for the birds or the squirrels so they don't go to waste?

I am feeling better from the accident, but still not 100%. Thanks for your concern. I am doing stretching and passive type upper body exercises. No weight training yet. I am getting chiropractic adjustment and myofasical release massage twice a week, so hopefully that will have good results. I cleaned today and did some scrubbing in the shower. It really wore me out and my neck and shoulder were sore, so I know I can't push it too much yet. But I am really anxious to be able to get back into exercising as much as I want to because I think it will give my weight loss efforts the added boost.

Why do I want to lose weight? Good question! There are lots of reasons. I want to be healthy and not have any weight related issues. I get my cholesterol and A1C checked every year and they are always good, but I know the longer I am overweight the more chance I have of a health problem. I want to feel good and have my clothes fit well.

Most of all, I want people to see me as a person and not be prejudiced by my weight. We all know that some people judge us by what we look like and figure that people who are overweight must be lazy. I know I can't change people's preceptions, but I can change myself so I will not be subject to these preceptions. I also make sure I judge people on my interactions with them and not their appearance.

Well, sorry for such a long post. I have to get back to cleaning the house and doing the laundry...Isn't my life exciting? Talk to you all tomorrow.

Good afternoon, Ladies!

Well, it's superbowl time!  Actually, I am not a football fan but what the heck.  We don't have TV at our house (yes, I know archaic - but quiet) so since my husband wanted to see the game, we went into town to a place called the Doghouse.  They have food, drink, TV and INTERNET!  What a great idea!  I did eat here and managed to avoid the football favorites.  I had a grilled chicen breast, dinner salad and spinach.  It is a bit more difficult to figure calories away from home since I don't know what is in everything but I hadn't had much to eat today anyway so I figure I was OK.

FG, I am so sorry to hear that you are still feeling the effects of your accident!  I hope that you will feel a full recovery very, very soon!  Are you able to walk or does that hurt your neck and shoulders too?

JR, your calorie intake sounds really good and congratulations on the consistent exercise.  If I recall, you are about 150 lbs, right?  How tall are you?  If you don't have as much weight to lose, it will probably be a little harder.  Just be persistent and you will prevail!

My major exercise today was shoveling snow.  The driveway, which is over 500 feet long, had gotten to the point where it was questionable if we could get up it anymore.  We put our sign out for the snowplow, but he must have missed it and so this morning, we were still buried.  So, we both went out and worked on it for about 1.5 hours.

Then we went snowshoeing behind our house.  There is literally nothing behind our house as far as people are concerned.  However, the animal tracks were amazing.  They are everywhere and you have to realize that it just snowed so they are all new tracks.  One of the things we came across was a deer kill; this is prime mountain lion country and the cliffs where they live are directly behind us.  It was a little unnerving.  In the summer I can't see the tracks but of course, they are still there.  Anyway, this is  rather long way of explaining why I hesitate to leave those yummy chocolate banana oat cakes out for anything as I'm afraid some animal might actually show up at the house!  If it were all  birds, squirrels, rabbits and deer, I would  not mind.  But we have seen both mountain lions and bear on the property!

I have been trying to locate the Palermo's pizza in Colorado and it appears that Costco is the only place that carries it around here - that's where you said you found it also, FG.  I will be going to Colorado Springs later this week and a friend of mine in Denver is a Costco member so maybe I'll get to try one.  By the way, if you go to the Palermo's website, they have a coupon that you can download.

JR, I am eating alot of the things I would normally eat, just in small quantities.  I have also been really careful to measure / weigh everything.  I'll do a couple of posts this week on what I am eating.  Today, other than the dinner that I just mentioned above, I had a breakfast burrito, sugar free cafe mocha, home made turkey soup (lots of veggies, no rice or noodles), small roll, half an orange.  I'm still going to have my raisin date bar later when I get home.

I find the breakfast burritos to be a really good thing for me.  I love breakfast but don't always have time to cook something so I can just take them out of the freezer.  I do like egg beaters and use them in this recipe, but with real eggs.

I've also been eating more fish than I normally do.  That is also an easy meal with veggies and a salad.  I buy fillets that are frozen and sealed individually.  That way, I can take two out of the freezer and they thaw in a little over an hour.  I pan fry them - very lightly.  I get the frying pan hot, then take a HARD stick of butter from the frig or freezer and lightly rub it in the bottom of the pan.  This uses less than a teaspoon of butter for two people, but gives the fish a nice brown color and flavor.  I also use some seasoning like Old Bay.

I am almost half way to my goal of 35 lbs.  I'll see when I get there if it makes sense to go further.  I'll be a very normal weight, but I have been thinner too.  I also am more concerned at this stage with being healthy.  Skinny feels really good but if I have to starve myself go get there, it is no longer healthy.

I certainly feel better now than I did a month ago, but I'm surprised that 17 lbs has not made more than about a size difference.  Pants that were toooo tight are now feeling fine and even a little loose.  My tummy rolls are a  bit less noticeable.   But still, I kept thinking there should be more.  Then I realized what happened - it all came off my BOOBS!  Oh, thank goodness; I was so worried that I'd end up slim and with big boobs!  Just put that concern to rest!  :dizzy:

Well, sorry this has been so long  but what else was I going to do at the Doghouse?  I liked Tom Petty at halftime, by the way.  Did you guys like it?  Baby boomers RULE!

Bye for now,
Anne

Hi Everyone,

Hope everyone had a great weekend! I am not a big football fan Anne, so I just caught bits and pieces of the game between the puppy bowl on Animal Planet. I missed Tom Petty, but heard he was good. My hubbie is a boomer, so I do have to say some good things have come from that gen, but X'ers rule!!

Congrats on your weight loss so far. That is great that you are almost half way to your goal! You have been doing such a good job!! So sorry it didn't come off where you would have liked it to. Maybe they are just early adapters, slimming down now to match the later inches that are coming off your middle.

I am walking almost every day. I did two laps around the subdivision tonight before dinner. And my doctor said today I can start doing upper body lifting with a theraband. No weight training yet, but it's a start. I am going to put it by the tv so whenever I watch, I can also do my exercises. I know it is not the cycling and weight lifting I was doing before, but it is something. I'm frustrated that this accident happened, because it has really stalled my weight loss. I am still at only 3 pounds down. I realized that working out helped me keep my appetite under control. Now I am not burning calories like I used to and I am hungrier. :nono:

Oh well, maybe I will be back to 100% shortly and can put this nasty accident behind me along with all the pounds I would like to leave behind! I'm going to go do my upper body exercises and try to think positive slimming thoughts.

Talk to ya later, FG

Good Evening ladies,

I worked hard this week and am down 2#!!!!  Yay!

Anne, you've made me hungry for fish!  I've got some of those individually wrapped ones in  freezer and will have to be cookin em soon.

I esp like to read about what diet foods others eat.  It gives me ideas.  So anyone with good ideas, please share.  I never did make those pumpkin mufffins as I had no bran cereal in the house.  Wondering have you ever tried to make them with oatmeal?

Same thing happens to me re the Boobs.  I was actually suprised they let you write Boobs.  Since a few days ago when I wrote "cap" with a r after the c and py after the p, they deleted it.   Got it?  I had said that was how I felt being overweight.   I couldn't figure what they thought was wrong with that.    By the way,  I am 5'4".

I put in a 14 hr day today at work and so no exercise machines for me today.  I'll hit the gym tommarrow tho.   I had 1250  cals today, only 40 oz water, too much coffee.   I'm really tired, so off to bed for me very soon.

Stay on track, diet buddies    JoanRenee

Hello Jonibug, You can visit us any time and share some warrior motivation. Your avatar is so cute. It reminds me of the T-shirt that says "I'm not fat, I'm fluffy. "

Congratulations JoanRenee on two pounds gone and all your hard work! Great job! Sounds like you are really putting in the hours at work. Remember to reserve some time for yourself so you don't feel tempted to give yourself a food reward. By the way, I don't see anything wrong with the C word you used. That is probably the least offensive adjective I would have used for describing how I feel with all this weight on me.

I was very proud of myself today. I went out to lunch with the guys I work with. This is usually a bad temptation because you know how guys can eat. I had roast lamb and steamed veggies while they ate fried chicken and potatoes with gravy. Then they had dessert...chocolate cake!!!  I wanted some so badly, but I stuck with my plan and had some apple slices off the salad bar for dessert. No cake for me. Hopefully the weight loss gods witness my efforts and reward me with some loss this week.

I'm off now to do some yoga and theraband exercises. Hope you all had great slimming days!

Good evening, Ladies!

Alright, sounds like we have lots of good things going on!  Congratulations on the two lbs, JoanRenee; that is a fun moment on the scale!  And Florida Girl, what a way to be determined at lunch!  I know how difficult those moments are and it doesn't seem fair that other people eat that chocolate cake!  I really love lamb, by the way!  Also, congratulations on those three pounds that you are still down - they all add up!

My good news is I'm at 18 lbs now (lost that is)!

FG, I have really thought a lot about your comments on wanting people to look at you without the screen of "overweight".  It is really such a shame that our society seems to judge people on external factors - weight, age, beauty, even things like height.  Reading your comments made me realize how much I judge MYSELF on my weight.  I am so down on myself for weight related issues - much harder than I am on other people.  I don't have a solution or an answer, but it is something to think about.

JR, I said I'd try to include some food stuff.  One of my favorite lunches is a toasted english muffin (light muffin is 110 calories).  I take 1 oz of low fat cream cheese and spread it on each half of the muffin.  Then I slice a few olives and put those on top.  I guess I must like salty because it seems to hit the spot.  An alternative is to use 1t of hot pepper jelly on each one instead of the olives.  It's 16 calories per t.

I had a really easy dinner tonight.  I bought Butterball turkey smoked sausage (like the Hillshire Farms stuff only turkey).  The links are quite long so I cut one in two and simply fryed it in a pan (no added anything, just the sausage).  Once they were cooked, I rolled one crescent roll dough around it and baked it.  It was really tasty but probably had quite a bit of sodium (I didn't check).  I also could have eaten two of them!  The sausage was 175 calories and the cresent roll was 110 (watch the packages, some are higher in calories).

Another thing I have just about every night is salad.  In my mind, salad is either good or bad and if you are going to spend the time making it, you might as well make it good.  I have a dressing that I make all the time.  The best way to describe it is a sweet oil & vinegar.  I use splenda in it which is probably not the best thing but I figure the small amount I get in a little salad dressing probably won't kill me.  I have made it many times for guests and I always get great compliments on the dressing.  One of the things I like is that it is easy to get a nice coating on the salad with an O&V dressing.  The store bought dressings are so thick that they really don't do much but sit on the top of the lettuce.  I'll post the dressing in the recipe section of the site.

OK, so here is what a typical salad looks like for me (this makes 2 salads):

Red or green leaf lettuce (not out of a bag) - about 2-3 cups
Shredded cabbage - about 1-1.5 cups
I put the lettuce and cabbage in a bowl and toss with 1.5 T of dressing.  I tend to use the higher end of the greens for this much dressing, but it depends on your taste.
Diced red pepper
Thinly sliced red onion
4-6 Cherry tomatoes
1 oz feta cheese
4-6 olives sliced

The cheese and olives make a big difference (there is my salty preference again).  Blue cheese is also good but a little higher in calories.  I have tried the low fat feta to save calories but I prefer the real thing and for 40 calories, not too bad.  Each salad is about 150 calories.

Well, I'm going to go clean out my overstuffed and too small freezer and make some breakfast burritos since I'm almost out.

Does anyone know what happened to Avatar?

See ya later,
Anne

Good morning, Ladies

Well, I've gained a pound and am back to 17 now.  I have been really good too!  Yesterday I worked out on the cross trainer as usual, lifted a few weights and shoveled snow for almost two hours.  So it was discouraging to gain weight after that and eating under 1300 calories for the day.  :crying: Oh well, I just have to keep at it and eventually it will show.  Right?

I did a back of the envelope calculation on the difference between what my body should burn in calories and what I'm taking in.  I also added the effect of exercise.  This showed that I could lose about 2.5 lbs per week.  I would be OK with that or even 2.  What I don't want to happen is for my body to adjust to the lower number of calories that I am consuming and not lose any weight at all.  I have read a number of things that indicate that 1100-1500 calories per day for a woman is a reasonable range for weight loss.  I figure I am right in the middle of that, although some days I am a bit lower than 1300 - but not below 1100.

Since last Friday, I have only lost one pound.  I was down 2 but gained one back.  So I guess I am just disappointed that this last week has seemed so slow in terms of the loss.  Why is it so darn easy to gain weight and so hard to lose it???  It is not fair!!

Tomorrow I am leaving for Colorado Springs and that has me a bit worried as well.  It will be harder there to stay on track.  I will be seeing people, probably going out to eat, etc.  I am packing a cooler of food to take with me and that will help.  I am also considering taking my scale with me since I don't have one there.

Well, I hope you both have a great day!

Good evening ladies,

Anne, don't be discouraged...you are doing really well and it is probably a salt thing or something similar. I'm sure it will be gone in a day or two. You are getting so much good exercise, consider that you might have gained a pound of muscle. And muscle eats calories even while at rest, so wouldn't that be great?

How long are you going to be in Colorado Springs? Is it a work thing?

I am being pretty good about sticking to my diet and no more weight loss yet. :crying: I have had to eat out a lot, but have been eating grilled fish, dry steamed veggies and salad. I know that sometimes restaurant meals can have hidden fats, but how can someone not lose weight on those foods???? I agree with you Anne, how come weight is so easy going on and so hard going off?

Yesterday I had 1500 cals and today 1600.  Not planned but just happened that way.

I did though have 60 oz water yesterday and 80 today.  I also went to gym today. I went on this new machine they got that is a stepper that also has arm movements.  Not sure if I liked it; movements were uncomfortable.  I did that or 15 mins, then did weight machines and some free weights.  Did 100 abd. crunches on ab roller - slow tight movements that get the best results.  I do the ab crunches 3-4 X wk.  Then I jog/walked around the lap thing they have there, alternately jog one/brisk walk one; total of ten x around.   I didn't do as much cardio today as I  usually do; but I was just not feeling up to it.

Anyhoo,  I'm not that concerned about the higher cal days.  Esp if I get them back down tommarrow to like 1200.  Having these slightly higher cal days every once in a while, tricks your body's Metabolism rate.  I do think if you keep the cals too low steadily that your body adjusts to that and trys to conserve.  But,  I also agree with FG re that you, Anne are probably gaining muscle mass that does indeed weigh more and burns more calories than fat!   A VERY GOOD THING!   So hang in there diet buddy....you can do it!

I hope to see that scale down another 2# this week; but if it isn't....I'll just keep plugging away cause........guess what?   Even though, I've lost just 6.5# >>>> My jeans feel looser and I am feeling so much better than 1 month ago.   JoanRenee

Good evening, Ladies,

I hope everyone is doing fine.  It was good to hear from Avatar; I have been wondering what happened to her.

Congratulations, JoanRenee on losing 6.5!  I'm glad that your clothes and you are feeling better!  I am amazed at your abdominal exercises; that is really what I need to get in gear and do!!!  My stomach is my biggest problem area; hips, thighs and butt are OK!

Florida Girl, I think that eating out is so tough and you are doing a great job sticking to the best foods.  That takes a huge amount of will power!  Who knows what is happening that you aren't seeing the results yet - but I know you will!  It is hard to wait it out but if you stick to your plan, the scale will eventually surrender!

When I got on the scale this morning, I was down 2 more lbs to 19.  I wasn't sure if my eyes were deceiving me so I stepped on and off a few times but it kept saying the same thing!  I am getting close to the 20 lb mark!  Do you have any non-food ideas for a celebration when I get there?

I had to drive to Colorado Springs today (300 miles).  The roads were snow covered and although it was not snowing, the blowing snow made for white out conditions at times.  I came to meet with two house stagers to get some ideas on how we might be able to sell our house more easily.  One meeting is tomorrow and the second on Monday.  It took me 7 hours to drive here and I hadn't even arrived home when I got a message from the person I am supposed to meet tomorrow that she wants to reschedule for next week!  She knew I was driving across the state to meet her.  I have tried to call her but so far, it is not resolved.  I am so bummed out that I may have come here for the weekend for nothing.  And the weather was great when I left southern Colorado - it looked like a ski weekend!

I was careful with eating and took lunch in the car.  I could not measure everything exactly today but I think I ended up a little under 1200 calories.  I also worked out on the cross trainer and did weights before I left.

Our wedding  anniversary is at the end of February and I'm pretty sure we'll be going out for dinner.  Just so you know it is not impulsive on my part, I think I will forget about 1300 calories that day and just enjoy myself at dinner!  I figure we should be able to do that occasionally.  I just hope it doesn't get me into a general over-eating mode.  I need to get back to the plan right away.

Bye for now, have a good weekend!
Anne

Hi All,

I've been super busy this past few days.   Still doing really well on diet. Not much exercise tho, due to work.  Had only 1200 cals/day the past THREE days!

I Plan to go to the gym today.

Weighed in at 147.5 this AM --DOWN 7.5 SINCE JAN 1ST!

I set my goal @ 15# Loss for the Challenge, which ends 2/29.  Not sure if I'll make the  goal of 15# loss by that date, but I'm very pleased to be have way there!

I do of course, plan to keep plugging away well after 2/29, until I reach my goal of 130!

Anne,  My suggestion for rewarding yourself at the 20# mark =  Get a massage.

I plan to get myself one this week.  My neck, shoulders and back really need it.  I'm getting a deep tissue massage.

Florida Girl,  Don't give up!  Hang in there.   My progress has been slow also.  But now, I am really beginning to feel/see the results of all my hard work.  Are you keeping track of your daily calorie intakes?

I'm off work today,  have lots to do.    Everyone have a great day.  JoanRenee
