The gaunlet is down!!!  I love a good challenge.  I'm about to unleash the hare without the complacency.  :rabbit::shock:

I didn't work out this morning because I didn't get a good night's sleep but that's not gonna stop me.

Get ready!  This is gonna be fun!

Hey Bert!

I'm at 67# today so I'm slooowly catching up to you.  I was thinking of sending my chocolate chip cookie recipe so your wife can make you a big batch.  There's only four sticks of butter and 24 oz. of chocolate chips.   What do you think?  Come on...I gotta catch up some way.  he he.

70#!!!!!  Wow!!!  Congrats.  That deserves a double batch of chocolate chip cookies.  LOL.

Dang, you're right, I am "it"....as in second place "it"....BUT I'm on my way to the indoor track (yuk!) since it's pouring here.  So...you can quit your little rain dance because I'm still going to exercise.  I have to catch up.

Have a great day.  I'll be sweating trying to catch up.  Oh...have I told you about the white chocolate bread pudding that I make that is to die for....ha!

All in good fun.  Maybe.  Sort of.  Nah, it IS all in good fun.

No bourbon sauce.  Just white chocolate....lots of creamy, rich white chocolate!

It's Friday and the scale has me down by 68#.  Oh yeah!  I'm catching up.  But don't worry...you just need to sit back, have a few Doritos, a little beer and some ice cream...I'll let you know when I'm really close.  he, he.

Dude, you threw that gauntlet down and it just torqued me up to get going even more.  It is on..............did 4 miles this morning and doing 4 more this afternoon.  And you just thought all Southern women were ladies.  ha!

Have a great weekend.

DG,

Sorry I didn't get right back to you.  I was stuffing my face with some 100 calorie popcorn, my mid-afternoon snack.

Now, to business!  Did 4 miles???  Was that in the mini-van or?????  I know I'm a smart you-know-what.  Good for you.  You may sweat in the workouts but you're a lady.  I can tell these things.

I have to be honest and give full disclosure.  The beer and Doritos won't pass these lips this weekend but I had promised my bride that when I hit 70 lbs lost we would get a pizza from our favorite place.  I'm at 71 as of this morning and she reminded me of my promise.  What's a guy to do????  I'm going to try and hang on to this for the Monday weigh in.  We'll see what happens.  Maybe a hard workout and a small :pizza:

Have a good weekend and try getting out of the van and put some effort into the miles. LOL!

Have a great weekend too.

Well, well, well....I didn't know we were going to get down and dirty.  So now you have a tail on me and have figured out those 4 miles were in a car, huh?  The gig is up, I guess.  This morning I had my hubby drive the SUV down the road with a carrot hanging from the bumper...boy, did that make me run!  Carrots...yum, yum!  Just imagine if it was cheesecake or chocolate cake or chocolate anything.  I would burn the rubber off of the bottom of my shoes...oh yeah.  LOL.

71#...I need to talk to your wife.  I think she is STARVING you.  You should definitely have your own pizza with LOTS of cheese.  And dessert...lots of dessert.

Well, bring on Monday, that's what I say.  Bring it onnnnnnnnnnnnn..............bring on the scale and all the trash talk you can muster.  You've met your match.  (Are you scared?  Such tough talk from a southern gal...you gotta love it!  ha.)

In the meantime, have a great weekend and try not to have nightmares.  LOL.

Cheesecake, Chocolate cake or Chocolate anything!!!!!  I love it when you talk dirty

Well, we had our wonderful Luigi's pizza Saturday night.  I had three pieces.

It was wonderful!!!!

The upside is that I worked my butt off on the stationary bike on Sat. and again on Sunday, along with some weight lifting on Sunday.  Bottom line, I'm still at 71 lbs gone and my weight as of this morning is 219!!  I'll take it.

Now I have to get on track again for this week.

Let's be strong!!!

Bert

Hi,

I worked out a strong 52 minutes on the stationary bike this morning and worked up a good sweat.  Tomorrow I'll do 30 minutes and then lift weights.

Now and then I'll treat myself to something like a pizza and it seems to trick my system such that when I get back on the wagon, I'll lose more.  I don't know why that is or if there's a term for it but it seems to work.  It seems to confuse my system/metabolism etc.

Pizza is a good one to use as the protien from the cheese is harder to metabolize than say, sugar.  The tomatoe sauce is good but the crust is the problem.  The pizza I get is a thinner crust so that's helpful.  I don't get any other toppings although some veggies might not be a bad idea.

I weighed in this morning and still at 71 but I'm eager to see what the rest of the week brings.

You're gonna break that 70 lb mark this week.  What kind of exercise are you doing?  What's your percentage of aerobics vs. strength training?

Have a great day!

Bert

Well, Peter, lately it has been me and Bert.  Voodoodoll seems to be missing in action.  She set off to take some tests and we haven't heard from her.  There are rumors floating around that she may be representing Heather Mills in her lawsuit against Paul McCartney, but we have yet to nail that jello to a tree.

Anyway, I kind of barged in looking for her and harassed, uh, I mean encouraged, Bert in the process.  So here we are.

OK, Bert.  You are probably at 75# lost, right?  I'm a hair under 70#.  Maybe if I shaved my head, I would be there.  ha.  How scary would that be?  It's just taking it's own sweet time in melting off of me.  I'm a tad bit frustrated but I'm rocking along.

In answer to your question regarding exercise, I walk everyday.  At least 4 miles and several times a week 8 miles a day.  There's some jogging in there too.  I also take a one hour aerobics class on Thursday evenings.  And occasionally I will do one of my Turbo Jam tapes.  My hubby, who is extremely muscular and pumps iron daily, is trying to get me to start lifting weights.  I guess I do need to do that....

Well, Peter, I guess I need to change my name to Diet Buddy Group Crasher.

Hi DG,

No, I'm only down 72 lbs.  I'm at 218 this morning.   I was hoping for one more lb but 2 for the week is good and I'm solidly in the teens.  I have to work very hard this week.

I'll get my weight posted for the new challenge and for the record, I'm glad you crashed/harassed into this post.  I need a buddy.

Have a good day.

ONLY?  Please!  That's fantastic.  You are shedding it so consistently.  As usual, I'm impressed.

I'm going to hit 71# (at least) by Friday.  That will put me at 199.  Still, a lot, but I cannot tell you the last time my scale went there.  I'm trying to stay strong mentally and physically.  It's getting more difficult to lost 10# a month but I've lost 70# in seven months, give or take a day.  I'm focused though.  I picture it as being on the downswing so it should be easier....I want to lose 50 more.

What about you?  What is your ultimate goal?  And how long will it take you to get there?

Keep on inspiring me with your consistency.  I'm trying to keep up with you!

You're really doing great.  I don't think that people realize how much work, focus and discipline it takes to lost large amounts of weight.  Those who have never had weight issues just think "Wow, they really let themselves go."  They're clueless.

I think those of us who put weight on easily understand why and being able to fight the battle and win is a tremendous accomplishment.  You're doing so well and, believe me as a person who understands and can really empathize, I'm proud of you.

I don't know what my ultimate goal will be.  I know I want to lose 100 lbs.  That will put me at 190 lbs.  I haven't been under 200 since 1988.  I'm close but I still have a lot of work to do.  If I keep on going the way I am I should be there sometime in June.

When I hit 190 lbs I intend to get a personal trainer at a gym and explain to him/her my journey, my approach and my accomplishment to date.  I'll then work with them to plan an exercise strategy that will build muscle for strength and metabolic increase as well as take up some of the loose skin I'm getting.  I don't want to be a body builder but I want increase muscle mass and strength.  I don't know if I told you but when I began this journey, the primary motivation was that I came to realize that if my wife and I were out at night and we were acosted, I would be unable to protect her.  I don't want to be in that position (of course carrying a .45 auto helps too:wink:).

I suspect when all is said and done I'll end up somewhere around 170-180.  I just don't know.  Then the real work starts.  I'll have to stay in shape and maintain the rest of my life.  You know, when we hit our goals we should begin a maintainence string.

Let's stay strong together!!!

Wow!  Your plan sounds great.  I can tell you've thought about it alot.  And yep, I agree with you that lots of folks are clueless.

I'm proud of all of us and I think we'll be starting that maintenance string sometime this summer if all goes according to plan.   That's exciting!

In the meantime, keep rocking along, my gun-toting friend! :skull:

Hey Bert!  That recipe looks yummy.  I will have to give it a try.

Guess what I bought.  A weighted vest.  It's a black vest that has pockets all over it and you put one pound weights in it.  It holds up to twenty pounds.  I walked two miles with 4 lbs in it this morning and I got quite a workout.  I look like I'm on a SWAT team or something but that's ok.  I was going to put some letters on the back:  FBI .  Folks would think it stood for Federal Bureau of Investigation but it would really stand for Fat Butt In-motion.  ha.

Scale down to 198.6 this morning...so that's 71.4#.

What's up with you???

Hi,

You crack me up!!!  I actually have a cap from the FBI.  I was in the firearms business in another life (career) and we did things with them, Border Patrol, Secret Service, etc.  I'll bet you look cool in your vest.  I was thinking bullet proof when I was reading about it.

You know what would be interesting, if you could put 71 lbs in that thing and walk around in it.  What a reminder that would be of where you were (and never to go back!).

I just had lunch with my daughter and we have our own challenge for March.  We're going to lose 8 lbs this month.  She's lost 65 lbs (we have a bunch of fatties in the family) and has gained 10 back.  She'll get it off though.

I got on the scale this AM, before my workout, and weighed in at 215 lbs.  I know that Monday is my official day but I like to get weighed daily as it helps me focus.  That brings me to 75 lbs even.

You're well over the 70 lbs mark.  That's fantastic!!!!  Doesn't it feel great??

Do you remember, a few months ago, when I told you I was going to visit my buddy in VA.?  Well, I'm heading up next Friday.  I told him not to get a lot of food in as I've been trying to lose weight.  I haven't seen him since last spring so this should be cool.

Stay strong and stay in touch!

Ohhhh...send the cap and a few weapons too.  THAT would be cool.

How old is your daughter?  She'll get those 10# off in no time.  So what does the challenge winner win in your family ... besides looking and feeling better?  That's great you two support each other.

Congrats on the 75#.  I knew you would be there this week?  Didn't I say so earlier in the week?

Glad you're going to see your buddy?  Do y'all have plans to do anything fun?

I'm going to try to push it a little harder this weekend.  I need to be at 73# by Monday.  You KNOW I hate to be behind you...frankly, I'm tired of looking at your arse...it's time for you to be following me.  ha.  There I go, trash talking again.

Talk to you soon!

Well, the upside for you is that your eyes won't have to work so hard looking at my arse since it's smaller.

My daughter is the ripe old age of 27.  The problem for her though is her work schedule.  She works in a microbiology lab on second shift and sometimes she doesn't get out until 1:00 am.  This makes it tough as she has to unwind a bit before bed and she doesn't get to sleep sometimes until 3:00 am.  She hasn't been working out and that's why she put the 10 back on.  All the weight she lost was from exercise and not diet so I'm trying to help her with food selection, shopping, etc.  My wife has lost 35 lbs and ONLY from diet; no exercise.  I think my daughter will be fine if she can get a new routine going.  She got away from the exercise she used to do in the late morning because she was doing some child care (infant) for a young woman at church who had elbow surgery.  She did this daily for 3 months and it threw her off.

We don't have anything for a prize.  We just want to support each other.  It's tough, as you know.

I'm looking forward to seeing my buddy but I don't think we have anything in particular planned.  If the weather is nice we may do a little fishing (he lives by a lake) and there may be a poker game Saturday evening at his house.  Nothing big; nickel, dime, quarter.

Really hit the aerobics this weekend.  I find that works best for me.  With any luck I'll drop another pound my Monday.  We'll see.

Have a great weekend and I'll be in touch Monday.

Be strong!!

Hi DG,

How's it going?  I've been updating the spring fling chart for the past week.  Did you want to post any numbers as of Monday?  Are you missing a few toes??

I had a tough weekend and it was a real challenge.  As of Saturday I was down 75 lbs but it looks like I gained one over Sunday.  We had the family for dinner and I went a bit over board.  When I weighed in Monday I was only showing 74 lbs lost.  It's still a 2 lb loss from the previous week and I'm glad but it just shows how sensitive my metabolism is and how I can retain fluid or put weight on.

Now for the good news.  My wife and I went out to Stein Mart on Saturday.  I had to buy some slacks and I'm down to a 40.  When I started my weight loss I was nearly a 50.  My wife insisted I get a new tie as well so I have the outfit on this morning and I've recieved several compliments.  It's very gratifying.

This past Friday I wore jeans to work.  These too, are a 40 and one of the gals I work with said I looked pretty good in those jeans. :grin:  Considering I'm 56 that made me feel really good.

How are you doing with your SWAT training and your new vest?  I did an hour on the bike Saturday and did three sets of curls with the dumbbells.  I also did a quick and hard half hour on the bike Sunday.  Considering dinner with the family on Sunday, I'm glad I did.

Stay in touch!!

Hey DG,

Where've you been?  I hope all is well.  I seem to be losing my lady diet buddies.  I'm getting self concious.  Is it my breath?

I went to see my buddy in VA this past weekend.  I really tried to stay good and I suppose I did for 60 % of the time.  The other 40 % was deliciously sinful though.   Couple this with no exercise and I didn't lose anything this week.  This is real life though and the indulgence over the weekend has satisfied me and getting back on the wagon isn't a problem.

I did notice I had a gain but it was fluid for sure as it was down when I did my official weigh in.  I'll be interested to see what I'm at next Monday.  I'm guessing that my system is tricked and I may show a decent loss.  My wife is going to Hilton Head Island with her best friend for the weekend so I won't be tempted with a big Easter dinner.  I'll work out hard this week too.

Let me know how you're doing.

Hi DG,

I think you're still out there.  If not, I'm challenging and supporting myself.

Well, I hit the 80 lb lost mark as of this morning.  I went off a bit over the last month or so but that's real life.  It didn't seem to hurt too badly though.  I've got 20 to go to reach my goal and then I'll fine tune it.  It's been an interesting ride.

I hope you're doing well.

Hey Bert!

Congrats on the 80# mark.  I'm still behind you at 76#.  Life has been crazy and I haven't been on computer much...as you know.

I joined the gym about 3 weeks ago because I was walking 8 miles a day and the weight was not coming off like I was used to.  Now I do body pump, body step, pilates and tai chi.  Surprisingly, it is fun.  Everyone is so nice and supportive.  I regret not joining earlier.

I had several sessions with a personal trainer.  After a lot a measuring and such, she told me my ideal weight would be around 155.  So that means about 39# to go.  I can do it.  She also told me my 10# per month goal needed to be changed to about 5# a month to be more realistic.  I didn't like that but since March was the first month I didn't reach my 10# goal, I guess I understand it.

What have you been up to?  You seem to have been trucking right along.  That's great.  I find I'm having to work harder and harder but that's okay.  I'm willing to do it.

Talk to you soon.  Apologies for my absence!  Your break is over!

Hey there,

Good to hear from you.  I'm glad everything's ok.

I've been working hard at it but I went astray the weekend before Easter when visiting my buddy in VA and on Easter but I've tried to be strict since then.

As you saw on the Spring Fling post, I didn't lose anything this week but I had lost 3 lbs for each of the prior weeks so I'm on track for 2 lbs per week.

The good news is the size of my clothes.  DG, I'm now at a 38 waist and I haven't been in the 30's for nearly 20 years.  I actually had one of my co-workers tell me I looked fine as is and that I didn't need to lose anymore.  I responded that she'd never seen me naked and we both had a good laugh over that.

I have 20 lbs to go to hit my goal of 100 lbs and I still want to fine tune it after that.  I suspect I'll end up at 175 -180 when all is said an done.  It's hard to belive that I'm right at the 9 month marks since I started this journey.  I know I shouldn't look at it that way as it smacks of something temporary.  The journey is really going to go on for the rest of my life.

Next Monday I'm having blood drawn for my physical which is the following week.  I haven't seen my doctor since last April.  I can't wait to see what the cholesterol, triglicerides, etc. come in at.  I also ran out of blood pressure medicine around Easter and I didn't want to get another 30 day supply so I'll see where I end up there too.

Stay in touch.  You say my break is over but I never took one.  I can't afford to since you're still right on my tail.

Have a great day!

Bert

Well, well, well Bert.  Now whatcha gonna do?  Voodoo's back and I'm here too.  You scared?  ha.

Seriously, you've been doing great.  I'm still hanging in there and working out daily...most days twice.  I'm at a serious plateau but my chin is up.  Hope to break it soon.

Voodoo, so glad you are back.

Where ya at, Bert?  I'm at 79#.  Last I checked you were at 80#.  Do you feel me breathing down your neck or have you sprinted out way ahead of me again?

Voodoo, how you coming along?  Getting back in the groove, I hope.

Hi,

I've been out of town since Friday morning.  I'll get on the scale tomorrow.  I was at 81 lbs down last week and we'll see what damage I did over the weekend.  I did get a workout in on Friday morning and went on a long hike in the mountains on Saturday so maybe it's not too bad.

You may not have seen my quickie post on the challenge but I got the results of my blood tests this week.  My cholesterol is down from 219 to 188.  It should be below 200!  Whoo Hoo!  The HDL (good) is 55 and should be above 30 and the LDL (bad) is down from 145 to 115 and should be below 130!!!:grin::grin:  Sugar is down from 91 to 88.  The doc says my blood pressure is down to 126/84 and he's taking me off the meds.  This is all fantastic news!!  I'll get back with my weigh in tomorrow.

Voodoo!!!!  WELCOME BACK GIRL!!!  I have my ladies back!!:grin:  I knew if I brushed my teeth all would be forgiven.

OK, I expect you two to seriously kick my much smaller butt until I get to my goal.  I'm now at a size large instead of XXX and my pants are down to a 38 waiste!!!

Stay with me, gals.  I love 'yas.

Well, I weighed in this morning.  Still the same at 209 (81 lbs down since the beginning).

See my tale of woe on the challenge website.

I have to get back on the horse this week and for the next 3 weeks before we go on vacation.  I don't intend to really over do it but I won't have my stationary bike or weights and I have to figure out what I'm going to do regarding exercise.

We're going to the mountains and we'll do some hiking but my wife hasn't been working out so she may have a little trouble and we can't make the hike too strenuous.  I'll figure something out.

Any suggestions???

Hey Bert!  I'll check out your woes shortly.  Just popped in to tell you I finally hit 80# yesterday so I really am breathing down your neck this time.

What awesome news about your health report.  YOU ROCK, dude!  I bet your wife is so proud of you.  You've been working your arse off.  Your vacation sounds like fun.  Take it easy and have fun.  You certainly don't have to scale the mountain in one day.

How are you Voodoodoll?  Back in the swing again?  I hope so.  Off to the challenge link now.

Oh, and Bert, thanks for brushing your teeth.  Just kidding.  That did make me laugh though.  Love your sense of humor.

Keep trucking along.

OK, just back from a quick glimpse at the challenge link.  So I'm assuming your woes included the men holding a gun to you and making you eat all that stuff.  What could you do?  You were under the gun!  Phew.  Barely made it out of there, did you?!  I don't think you did too poorly considering the circumstances.  Rock on, Bert, rock on!

DG,

Great news on the 80 lbs loss.  Way To Go!!!

I weighed in this morning but since Monday is my official day I'll let you know where I end up.  If I have a good weekend I should show a decent loss.  More on that Monday.

I checked with the Pigeon Forge Community Center about a place for vacationers to work out and it turns out they have a full gym and I can come in for $6.50 a day and use the machines, bikes, pool, etc.  If I can get a workout in the day we leave, knock off on Sunday and get at least two workouts in before we head home on Friday I should be OK.  I want to stay focused but have a good time too so we'll see what happens.  They have so many pancake houses there that it will be temptation mountain.  :chewing:

Have a great weekend.

Voodoo, let us know how you're doing.

Good morning Bert!

Just a quick note to let you know I'll be travelling from BR to Chattanooga tomorrow with my sister in law to pick up my niece from college....long story, unpleasantries involved...like my niece doesn't know we're coming and she's being yanked back home due to some shenanigans we've been informed about.   When I get to Chattanooga, I'll face east and give you a shout out.  Should be about 2 p.m. Tuesday.  Heading back Wednesday.  It's a quick trip.  I don't think I'll have time to scale any mountains.  Darn it.  Have a great week.

Hey voodoo.  How's it going, chickie?

OK, lady,

How was your trip?  I hope everything went well with your niece.  I heard you shouting.

This is the final week of the challenge.  Can you believe it?  It's May 1st.

I think I may have broken the plateau but I want to wait until my official weigh in date on Monday before I bring in the results of the new loss.  I don't think I'll hit my goal for the challenge but that's ok.  As long as the scale is moving down, I'm happy.  We'll see.

I've been working out very hard this week and watching the food/calorie intake.  I'm trying to avoid anything that would tempt me.  We have vacation coming up in two weeks and I'll have all I can do to maintain, let alone lose.  If I can have a good couple of weeks I'll have earned a little indulgence for vacation.

Let me know how you're doing.

Voodoo, keep checking in.

Hi gal,

I saw your post at 188 lbs.  What's the total number lost since you began?  I'm at 85 gone as of this morning.  Only 15 to go for the big 100.

Let me know.

Hey Bert!  I just wrote a note to you in the new challenge.  I've got 17# to go before I hit the big 100, so once again we are neck and neck.   I've lost 83# so far.  Still looking at your backside since you're at 85# lost.  Let's keep pushing and cross that 100# mark together...or you can drag me across...whatever works!  ha.  Golly, I just thought of something...between the two of us, we've lost one very large person.  WOW!

Trip to TN was quick and successful.  Weather was beautiful.  I need me some mountains down here in flat Louisiana.

Keep working hard.  You rock!

Hi,

That's terrific!  Running together to make the 100 lbs mark is awesome!  I don't know if you had watched the Biggest Loser this year but when Mark waited for Ali and they crossed the finish line together on one of the challenges, that was cool.

You're right; 200 between us.  Dang!

Don't worry about the flat land.  You can visit the mountains anytime.  They don't have crawfish either.

See you on the other side of the finish line!!

Yo Bert!

I'm at 84# gone today....another 16# till the big 100, and another 20 after that to final goal.

How are you?  I've been busting it at the gym 2.5 -3 hours a day.  Is that crazy or what?  I love the body step and body pump classes.  Also have my neice training me 4 times a week for an hour each session.  My arse is aching today...but it's all good.

What's up with you?  Working hard?

Hi there,

I'm at 86 gone as of this morning.  I worked out hard over the weekend.

Saturday I did 45 minutes on the stationary bike, three sets of pushups, planks, bicep curls, flutters (on my back, legs raised 6" off ground and kick like I'm doing the back stroke) two sets of dips.  Sunday I did a hard 56 minutes on the bike.

I'm not feeling well this morning though.  I have sinus problems and they hit last night and were killing me.  I didn't get much sleep and I'm staying home from work today.  I may get some working out in later if I feel up to it.

You're a maniac at the gym.  I'm proud of you.  When we hit the 100 lb mark we'll have to send before and after shots to Peter and have him post them for us.

Have a great week and stay strong.

Hey there,

Just got back from vacation.  We had a great time.  The good news is that I was good 60% of the time regarding food.  I also went on a 5 mile hike in the mountains one day and worked out at the Pigeon Forge Community Center gym for two days.  I even ran three miles on the tread mill one day.

The bad news is that the other 40% of the time I was bad, very bad.  I gained 6 lbs so you are officially ahead of me on the weight loss.

I'm back on the wagon though and got up at 4:45 am today and did 45 minutes on the stationary bike.  One week does not a lifestyle make.

Keep after me and help me to stay strong!!

Hey DG,

Hope you're doing well.

I lost the weight I gained on vacation and another lb to boot.  I'm down 86 lbs as of this morning.

I've been away from the computer.  My wife lost her job this week so I've been working with her to help her get up to speed for the job search.  We'll be fine.  God loves us, He's in control and He has a plan.  We're in good hands.

How are you doing?

Hey DG,

Where are you girl???  I hope all is well.

I'm at 203 this morning, a total of 87 lbs.  I was doing better but we went out to dinner last night and I think the bread, oil and wine did me in.  Still a one lb loss for the week and I don't feel deprived.

What's going on in BAH-TAHN- Rooge?

Bert
