Just wondering if anyone else is doing Pilates as exercise.  I  know there are a ton of different Pilates exercise tapes out there.  The ones that I use are more for strength training exercises than for cardio.  However, there are points during them that I certainly feel my heart rate going up a little higher (probably because I am so out of shape).

I try to do these about 3 days a week and than add in some cardio the rest of the week.  I just don't really like going outside in the very cold or the very hot to walk around the block.  I don't have any cardio equipment I do have a Walk away the pounds video.  I do that occasionally.  Any suggestions on how to turn pilates into the cardio would be great.  I understand that the resistance training is extra good for creating lean muscle mass and improving the metabolism.

thanks

I started this last night with the Winsor Pilates Tapes.  Figure I will give it a try on my days off of exercise.  Did the beginner tape last night.  No issues from the body, so I may try the intermediate on Thursday.

I had to same response when I first tried a pilates DVD... no big deal, I can do this.  Then I took an actual class at my local gym - I wasn't doing the exercises quite correctly and that's why it seemed so easy!  If you can invest in just one actual pilates class (maybe a free 'trial' class?), then you might learn alot about the correct forms & postures.  This really makes all the difference with the effectiveness of the exercises.  They are quite subtle.
I loaned my beginner's DVD to a couple of friends, and they had the same experience.  They returned the tape and told me it was not hard at all.  Maybe you are in super-great shape, so it's different for you... I just wanted to throw out the idea of at least one "in-person" class if you can possibly arrange it.

I tend to do Pilates whenever I get into the workout mode, as is the case recently. I find that after a bit of aerobic time, some pilates thrown in is a perfect workout.
