Hi, I´m a bit bored with the same turbo jam, taebo and taking walks, so here´s my question,
WHAT EXERCISE WORKS FOR YOU?
Whatever exercise you do, have done, has improved your body, I want to hear about it . thanks

| Yoga is always fun. I just started doing it again after a break from it. I don't know as if it helps me so much physically but I really like the mental effect it has on me. I think cause you have to concentrate so much on a pose that you kind of get away from thinking am I almost done yet and things of that nature.

If you have Wii, EA puts out a game called Active that I had pretty good results with, but I did get tired of it after 2 months and switched to lifting weights exclusively. And speaking of the Wii, I don't really know if this would be classified as exercise or not, but playing the drums on Guitar Hero used to make me work up a pretty good sweat until I broke the drum set.
I also used to cut the #%@&! out of my grass to get exercise. I was cutting it twice a week, but now it is growing so slow that I can't get away with that anymore.

lol, I know I have a wii also and it does get boring after awhile. But, I could really open my own gym. I have an elliptical, a treadmill, an exercise bike and many exercise tapes, a ball. So, I just switch every couple of weeks what I am doing. Right now, I try to get in something in the morning with the kids. So, the wii or a walk or something like that (easy). Then at their naptime I ride my exercise bike and post on here while doing it. I have a niffy little netbook that sits right on it, lol. Then at night I either do the elliptical or go for a walk. Depending on the weather, depends on the treadmill or not.
So, my suggestion is to find more things to do and mix it up. Do, an exercise tape one day then do something else the next day. Maybe you could join a gym or get a work out buddy.

I really hate the gym, so I try everything I can to avoid going. I really liked ice skating as a kid, so I try to pop over to the rink as often as I can - it's a great aerobic workout. I also recently got into belly dancing - there are some videos on youtube you can try out to get started.

They key is to keep changing your routine, trying new things. It keeps you motivated because it isn't boring, and it keeps your body guessing which allows you to keep burning calories!
My favorites are:
Taebo
In home walking
10 minutes solutions workouts
wii
dancing

Walking and swimming both works for me. I walk for 15 minutes everyday. Swim for an hour or so during weekends. I also walk instead of riding going to the nearby store (approximately 20 minutes walk)

Sometimes if im feeling active i call up some friends and get a ultimate frisbee or football game going. (when its warm out)
and if i cant get enough people sometimes i try for basketball or my tennis buddy
DDR was my big thing. Like music, dancing, video games, and exercise! perfect for me.
I also find running with friends to be a fun activity. Or i find projects to do around the house that involve a lot of moving around. (like cleaning up the garage or yard or something)

| Nearly every day, I usually do a long, 5-mile walk and keep track of the number of calories I burn each session. I have an iPod Nano with a built-in pedometer. I then lift weights. After the weight-lifting session, I burn off more calories using either a treadmill or elliptical (depending on how many calories I've burned in my walking session). Once I reach 1,000 calories total (from the walking and treadmill or elliptical sessions), that's where I reach my daily goal. I've already lost 9 pounds in one month since I started the routine. As long as it keeps working for me, I'm going to continue doing this till I reach my goal weight.

I like a little variety in my workouts as well. I spend 30 minutes per day on cardio and 30 minutes per day strength training. With strength training I alternate muscle groups each day and with cardio I change the intensity and type day by day. Some days I will use elliptical some days treadmill and some days stairmaster. This variety keeps me from getting bored. I am always open to more ideas though.

i really love one of the yoga studios in my city, but i just wish it was cheaper to attend classes. i sometimes use the local university's rec center for classes, but i prefer the yoga and pilates' studios. i like the atmosphere, and that they have well-trained instructors as opposed to kineseology majors hired by the rec.
i'm wondering if there are other alternatives...
i own windsor pilates and like using those. i see a good bit of results if i stick with them, but how long is someone supposed to compromise an enjoyable workout with DVD workouts because of financial barriers?

Being a personal training and boot camp studio owner, and new dad, my workout time has diminished. I use a ton of body weight exercises in a circuit or interval pattern. It kicks your butt.
For example: (no break between exercises)
Push ups 15 reps
Body weight Squat 15 reps
Prisoner Lunge 15 reps
Complete this circuit 3 times.
Doing something like this will crush way more fat than steady state cardio for 45 minutes.
One of the top trainers and program designers of interval training workouts is in my network and gave me one of his 4 week body weight programs to give to clients. It's perfect for beginners because it's all done for you with charts, photo descriptions and nutrition but still crushes any advanced exerciser.
You guys can get yours for free here fatburnnation.com/fat-loss-on-the-go/bodyweight-hookup
Let me know what you think or have questions. This has been my answer for having no time!

Yeah anytime! It's a fun, challenging way to workout and like I said dramatically cut your workout time down in half. Once you start seeing results from this style of working out you'll be hooked! All to often you see folks at the gym do a set, relax for 3-4 minutes and do it again. Such a time waster.
Any questions just shout!

I try to incorporate high intensity resistance training as often as possible into my routine to really feel the burn and see results. And if you don't want to use weights as your resistance, try bands or your own body weight as well. You will definitely see results, get your heart rate up, burn fat, and build muscle all at the same time. It's very effective. I don't know if I can put any actual links on this post, but just type in "high intensity resistance training" in your favorite search engine and you should get some really great results.

I have my clients focus on elliptical training. It is an upright form of exercise so it burns a lot of calories and it is also low impact and easy on the joints.
When combined with some weight training and the proper diet, they get amazing results!
Good Luck,

Moderator's Rant
1) The forum's policy on spam is clearly stated in the forum posting guidelines and also the activation email, you may not promote your own website.
2) A Google search for 'Tips for a Happy Gymnast' shows how unimaginative you are, simply cutting and pasting someone else's article. How pathetic.

The human body consists partly of a system of over six hundreds muscles. Exercise is ANY physical activity for the purpose of working and developing some part of the body. Scientific and medical research supports countless experiences proving absolutely the necessity for including physical activity into any weight reduction lifestyle. Dieting alone will result in the loss of crucial muscle mass and water.
The weight may come off quickly but becomes impossible to keep off without the benefits of exercise. To lose weight you must expend more calories than you are consuming by creating a calorie deficiency. With physical movement your resting metabolic rate or MRM (which is simply the amount of calories or energy required for your body to perform all of its vital functions such as breathing, blood and oxygen circulation and brain functions) changes its hormone and chemical levels.
There is nothing other than exercise, no pills, supplements or foods that raise your metabolism high enough to effectively burn fat. It is healthier to burn fat off than to starve it. Fat and muscle never "turn into" each other. By burning fat you are making more room for lean muscle mass. By gaining fat you are reducing the space available for muscle.

Yes, cycling is really a good exercise. I started taking my bike instead of my car for many transactions. This way, I lose weight and I get from A to B. That kills two birds with one stone and you don't have the impression to exercise, but rather to travel

When I exercise I have to be outside, I cannot work out in a gym, for some reason when I'm there it seems like a chore, I much prefer to be excerising in the great out doors, especially for doing jogging, cycling or doing yoga!

| I agree Ladybelle. I have a "park" near my house that is actually a boat landing access to a river. But I can go there early in the morning and no one's there. I can climb the sand dunes by the river, or run up and down the launch (it's really steep), or I can climb steps, do lunges across the parking lot, run flats on a mile of access road, use the concrete picnic tables for step aerobics, or whatever else I can come up with. It's so much better exercising with mother nature.

LOL Bama, you could get a grandmother bike from Norway or is it the Netherlands (which ever one is the flatest country in Europe) lol.
For me it's walking, I also have Wii as I'm stingy to pay $$$$ at a gym.
So I work out on Wii Fit Plus and I enjoy my trainer "Danny". His British accent gets me moving. I alternate from stepup, boxing and running then relaxing with muscles and yoga.
Another one to get me sweating is Just Dance on Wii, Eye of the tiger gets me sweating big time.

Weight lift 4 times a week using a combination of dumbells, olympic bar and plates, Bowflex, and a power tower.
Cardio 4-5 times a week. Usually intense interval training by picking off road inclines and repeating a cycle of going up and down for several reps.
Once or twice a week I take a break from intervals and hit the trails for a good 20-25 mile mountain ride.

BamaGirly,
You're welcome anytime if you ever find yourself out this way. I would welcome the company since all my friends are lazy bums.
Bluenails,
Thanks for the kind words! I am guilty of taking the scenery for granted since I have lived here all my life.

Most people know that exercise is good for them. Somehow, though, older adults have been left out of the picture — until recently. Today a new picture is emerging from research: Older people of different physical conditions have much to gain from exercise and from staying physically active. They also have much to lose if they become physically inactive.
Exercise isn’t just for older adults in the younger age range, who live independently and are able to go on brisk jogs, although this book is for them, too. Researchers have found that exercise and physical activity also can improve the health of people who are 90 or older, who are frail, or who have the diseases that seem to accompany aging. Staying physically active and exercising regularly can help prevent or delay some diseases and disabilities as people grow older. In some cases, it can improve health for older people who already have diseases and disabilities, if it’s done on a long-term, regular basis.

I love going to work out classes with my friend, it really motivates me! I usually go to total body toning, cycling, and ab exercise classes. Having my friend there helps motivate me. Also, a cheap way is to bike or jog around my block and look up exercises on youtube.
