Hi

I was a bit disappointed this morning when i weighed myself. I only lost .5 lb. Let me explain why i was disappointed. I started my diet on Monday and my calorie intake was below 1200. I didn't have time to exercice. When I weighed myself on tuesday I had lost 1.5lbs and I was very happy. Now yesterday I decided to go one step further. I ate below 1200 calories and I walked 7 miles, and yes I was tired hahaha. When I weighed myself this morning I only lost .5lb. Can anybody explain to me why I didnt' exercice and lost 1.5lbs and when I walked 7 miles I only lost .5lb. There must be an explanation for it. Thanks for your help.

I'm not sure what happened in your particular case, but be aware that body weight fluctuates daily. Because of this it is often recommended that we only weigh ourselves once a week. (But that bothers me because what I my weight's "off" that day!)

Anyway, I don't eat much salt and just for example one heavily salted meal and I will weigh two or three pounds more the next day. And there are other reasons it varies.

I suggest you give it some more time.

your weight will fluctuate sometimes up to 6lbs on any given day. Keep working hard and weigh yourself at the same time every week. I doing right in the morning right when i wake up on a friday. youll want to try and take out the variables so stay consistant. try that!

eating under 1200 cals? eat more, below that and your body will slow down its metabolism ALOT cause it thinks its in a famine and will hold onto every calorie you eat, no matter how long you walk.

Keep exercising!!  It will only do good things for you.  But eat well too!
And DO NOT WEIGH YOUSELF so often.  :dizzy:  Once a week at the same time.  Losing weight slowly is more beneficial for your body long term than losing it quickly and gaining it back.

Find an exercise routine you are happy with and stick with it.  I have been told over and over that muscle weighs more than fat, so don't be upset if the weight goes up a little now and then.

Stick with it and you will be fine!

Instead of weighing yourself on a scale, try checking your body fat every three weeks and also monitoring how your clothes fit.

If your body fat is going down and your clothes or looser, or you need a new size, then you are definitely improving. Weight is tricky because differences between scales, how much water you have in your body, and if you put on muscle while exercising more.

Amen to everything everyone has said in this thread.  I would add a third component to diet and exercise and that is mental focus aka discipline.  It helps if you can get personally involved in your weight loss/fitness improvement program and by that, I mean actively involved.  While you don't want to weight yourself every day, do write down everything that you eat (and find out how many calories it has).  Chart your calorie consumption along with your exercise frequency and weight loss over time.  Post these chart in conspicuous places either at home or at work where others can see your progress.  Talk about your weight loss to friends and family...brag a little.  You will be amazed at how much encouragement you will get from them.  Your loved ones have been wanting to tell you you needed to loose weight for a long time.  Now they don't have to "nag" you, they can "praise" you.  That makes you feel good about yourself....but that's another post.

Keep trying and good luck,

Old Goat

Hey Old Goat,

I agree with what you wrote:

"Post these chart in conspicuous places either at home or at work where others can see your progress.  Talk about your weight loss to friends and family...brag a little.  You will be amazed at how much encouragement you will get from them."

By coincidence just yesterday I created a new forum called My Diary - Post Your Diary On-line. Just an idea to try... thinking it might help some to post their progress for others to see.

My own post in that forum explains it better.

Thanks, Peter:monkey:
