I think cleaning should count as exercise. My arms are killing me from cleaning to get ready for a graduation party.

Can I count cleaning as exercise, so I don't have to walk as much this week. I need to get a ton of stuff done and not sure I will get all my walking in before the weekend.

What do you all think. Would a days worth of cleaning count the same as walking 2miles?

It's only a little after 8am here, and I have already wiped down two rooms, took a shower, did the dishes and got the kiddies off to school. So, I know I will be at it all day. I would think that would count for some exercise.

I would think so. It really depends on how hard you are cleaning. When I clean the house, I usually clean pretty thoroughly, and I typically break a sweat.

I have the honor of moving anything upstairs and downstairs that needs moved, and that is definitely a small workout of its own, especially when there is furniture involved.

Anything that gets you moving can help, and some housework typically requires more effort than others, such as sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming.

Others, like mowing the lawn, are without a doubt a cardio workout, unless you are in a riding mower. LOL

EDIT: Oh, and according to my calculations, TAKING CARE OF CHILDREN = EXERCISE. So yeah. XD

I know by how I feel today, that I did get a workout. But, even so, I still managed to get my miles in last night. How, I don't know, I was so tired.

Today, should be a little slower, I hope. I don't think I could clean full-time as a job. My hats off to all those that do.

I am also like you. I wiped down wordwork, wall, you name it, it's clean. My bathroom is so clean, you can eat off the floor in there. lol Also, the up and downstair thing is enough to do a person in.

Heck yeah it counts!  All that bending and stooping and stairclimbing and scrubbing.  It's a definate upper and lower body strength work out.  (it has some pretty high cal counts in the activity calculator too.)

Of course, with my pathological avoidance of exercise, this may explain why I;m always looking around my house saying "I really should dust" then I find something more fun to do. Ha.

I usually use exercise as an excuse not to clean. I hate cleaning, so, walking is so much better for me. But, I am definitely going to count it this week. Last night after vacuuming and dusting the basement, I only got 3 miles in. So, I will either make it up or not worry about it since I have been cleaning non stop for three days.

Knowing me, I will make it up somewhere, somehow.
