Wow......
When I logged in to start this thread, I saw the first message I ever posted here, a few years ago. Didn't realize this site had been around that long. Back when I wrote that first message, I still had 5 kids. One of my little boys died 2 years ago, and right before his fourth birthday. And, the depression and grief from that tragedy has made an already bad weight problem a lot worse. Anyway, better get to my question.
I recently started doing a Leslie Sansome one mile walk at home tape (15 minutes), and I do it twice a day. I know that part of my exercise routine counts. But I also do several minutes a day of arm work, but it doesn't make me winded or make my heart rate go up much. Does the arm exercise I am doing still help with fitness in general? I'm not really going for actual weight loss anymore. I no longer believe it is possible for me in particular. I don't have the will power to change my eating habits, and I have come to terms with that fact. It has taken me a long time to be ok with it. But, even at 350 pounds, I can still exercise. It isn't easy, and I have to do it in several sprints over the day of about 10-15 minutes at a time. If I can't (or subconciously won't) be thin, then at least I can try to be as fit as I possibly can be at this weight. Thanks for any help with the arm exercising question.

The rule of specificity applies: exercising your arms works your arms, not your legs. Another principle to bear in mind is progression: if an exercise becomes easier over time then make it harder (e.g. you might have started doing a 'peck deck' just using your arms own weight, maybe you are now ready to do the same exercise holding some hand weights)
(On the other matter I want to suggest you look into Overeaters Anonymous if you have not already)

Welcome back! Yes, you are a long-time member!
Oh my, I can't even imagine what it would be like to lose a child. Can't imagine. I'm so sorry.
About your question... YES!
When you expend energy doing ANYTHING, you are burning calories.
This or that may or may not help towards a specific goal in physical development, but it ALL burns calories. Even typing this post!
Best wishes and I hope you stay around!

Yes, any exercise counts. I do stuff just sitting in the chair. Like sucking in my abs or flexing my leg muscles. I think everything you do will help you to be more fit.
I give you credit for trying to better yourself after a terrible loss. It is so hard to deal with certain things in life. My hats off to you for hanging in there and trying to move on.
