Tuesday I went to the pool with my son and some friends of his. Upon our return I went up to take a shower.
When I raised my right foot to wash my leg, I fell. The curtain only made me have something to ride down. My hip landed on a small wall that borders the shower and my right side hit the toilet bowl on the bottom two ribs. It hurt like ( well, real bad).
I finally went in for an Xray today and nothing is broken. It is still very tender and I better not cough or sneeze. I am 68.
I wonder if maybe I am getting a message from above that I weigh too much. I was 255 pounds the last time I checked ( within a week). I am 5 feet 8 inches.
Now any walking is done VERY slowly. It only hurts wneh I am bent over or as in the case above. I know that this will probably go away in a few days.

I'm not sure how this is going to sound to you, but I just want to say that maybe on the positive side your weight probably cushioned the blow? I think a thin persons ribs would have been much more vulnerable to breakage in a situation like that. Glad to hear nothing was broken!

| I'm so glad you werent hurt worse and that nothing was broken! Sometimes, tho, the bruises and sprains take longer and hurt worse than the actual brakes! Last edited on 17 April 2008 04:33 pm by Melissa

But good news is, nothing is fractured or broken!

Feeling much better this morning.
Thanks all for the concern. I am going to get a small stool to sit on. As to the weight cushioning the fall, I guess it works both ways. The fat cushioned things but,it also probably made me fall faster and harder.
At my age, I am just thankful that I am in such good condition.

| Exercise is harder the older you get but a little extra expense like a member ship to the YMCA might be useful. Swimming would be a gentle way to get you in better shape.

Guess I should put my location in the block. I am in Manila. The clubs here cost a lot. I do have a pool though at our other place. We use it a lot.
I am not really out of shape. Playing with a 3 year old boy keeps me in a bit of shape. I just haven't been going through the plastic tubes in the play places with him lately. They were hard on my knees.
The temp here is hot most of the time. We excercise in the morning and evening outside. The sun will burn you bad in the middle of the day. We are very far south. It is summer here so I wake to 80-90 degree temperatures at 7AM.
I will make it though. I am sort of exercise conscious and my wife urges me to exercise a lot.

I always laugh at my going to get healthy exercise and injuring myself.
At my old gym I used this chest machine which had a piece that stuck out below the seat. It stuck out and forward as the seat was inclined.
When I would get up, I would smack my leg into it. I finally learned to put my workout notepad in front of it so I would see it and step around it.
Well, two days ago I started using a similar machine at my new gym. Three times I did the same thing! While it really hurt the the second and third times, I didn't think much more about it. Not till after my shower that night I noticed that my leg was all swollen!
It will be fine. Just bad bruising and I think I broke a blood vessel or two. But I'm wearing an Ace bandage to keep the swelling down.
You almost have to laugh at the stupidity of it all.
