I've been doing some strength classes at the gym lately. They are pretty hard for me (I'm not very strong). If my muscles are still slightly sore 2 days later, does that mean I shouldn't do another class just yet? Maybe wait an extra day, till they aren't sore? Or is that just an excuse? ;). I don't want to overdo it, but I don't want to underdo it either.

| I think 2 total-body weight workouts per week is a great start for a beginner, so I guess that translates to 3-4 days rest. I hope you're only experiencing "post exercise muscle soreness" and not some chronic joint pain

Thanks, Nir. Pretty sure it is just soreness, definitely in the muscles, not the joints.

Please read the tutorial on exercise about muscle soreness.
When you are new at the gym, or doing a new exercise at the gym, you often feel a little sore. I think so long as you are not being real hard on your body... so long as the soreness is only because it's so new to you to use that muscle or that muscle in that way... it's just fine to keep working out with at least 48 hours before you use the same muscles again.
It's sometimes called "working through it" and you'll do just fine.
The catch is to know the difference in this and an injury which requires abstinence to heal.
Peter
P.S.
BTW, I've been in and out of gyms for over 40 years and I have discovered -- without ANY medical understanding of what's behind this -- that some injuries require abstinence to heal while others do better when you continue working out.
I've taken weeks off and had something or other not get better, only to have it heal when I returned to working out (guardedly).
On the other hand I tried that method for three full months once, and a torn something or other in my chest just wouldn't heal.
Then I dropped a 10 pound weight on my big toe and broke it badly. When I returned to the gym three months later, my chest was just fine!
Go figure.
