i am about 5'4 and 130 pounds.
Along with eating healthy and cardio i am on a mission to lose about 5-7 pounds in about 54 days..
but along with that i would like nice abs.. does anyone know any good ab exercises that i can do at home? and how much should i do? (example: 100 sit-ups a day or 100 in the morning and 100 at night)

Hopefully you'll get some good suggestions from others, but if not pick up ANY fitness magazine. Abs... abs... abs... is ALL they write about anymore.
Jamie, you have a bit of a challenge trying to get into shape with such a specific date in mind. Do the best you can, but if you don't reach all your goals still be grateful for the progress you've made.
With anything physical, I always push people to begin slowly. Start easy enough so that you enjoy it and then keep increasing what you're doing as you go so as to just keep it challenging... but still enjoyable. Otherwise most people stop!
I expect you'll want to jump in faster and harder, but most people would do well to take it slowly so I guess I'm writing this for other readers as well.
Just my thoughts, Peter

Well, first the bad news.......You can not target weight loss for any muscle group. Sorry to say but true....no matter what you may read about. First you need to lose any weight that may be an issue, then you can tone the muscles you have. Don't get me wrong, I am not saying it is impossible I am just saying there is no quick fix to better abs.
First off, keep up with the cardio, it will help you lose the weight. Next if you want to target the abs try 'baby steps'....oh yah, sounds like kids stuff but it isn't...believe me.
- Lie on your back in the crunch position, feet flat on the floor, knees bent
- Place your hands on your tummy, or abs and tighten the muscles by pressing your back into the floor. You should be able to feel your muscles tighten with your fingers, it aids concentration. (not to mention your butt should be clenched)
- Lift your toes up leaving only the back of your heels on the floor. Now take slow small steps moving your heels out while you are clenching your abs and butt by ensuring your back is pressed to the floor, do not try to straighten, only go about 20 steps about and inch apart, then bring in your feet in the same way.
- Your core area will feel it believe me, try doing 3 reps of 2 sets your first time...go slow. I know this may sound easy (hope I explained it OK) but trust me, you feel it. If you can do more, go ahead. However, my trainer has told me not to bother doing them everyday....if you hurt give your body a rest...or try something else. I have more if you need them. ONE thing to remember is to breathe.....it will seem tough at first because you do not want to lose the muscle tension, but you learn how to do both.
Best of luck to you.

yeah, check out just about any fitness or shape or self magazine - they will have lota of abs workouts. personally, i think most are lame and really dont do much unless you do 50+ for each rep.... thats just me. anyway, you cant spot reduce. sorry. keep on working tward your goal of loseing the weight, and at the same time strengthen your abs (and lower back, you have to keep your back and stomach muscles even or one will end up stronger than the other or your just asking for back pain in the long run.
keep on going, you can do it!

Hi There
Well, I do not do 50+ reps and guess what, they do work. Not to mention I only do this about twice a week. Any type of workout helps the body, and by doing back extensions and some form of ab workout your core area will be stronger for it.

| It's true that you cannot lose weight in a particular body part. You can train abs and tone them, but if a layer of fat lies on top of your abs you will not see them! Cardiovascular exercise and diet produce the weight loss that covers these muscles. If you can do 50+ reps of an ab exercise you need to increase the intensity by holding a weight, or change body position to increase difficulty. 50+ basically means you are not challenged. Try crunches on a stability ball. They should cause fatigue in your abs.
