I have heard that it was better to work out in the morning before eating, but I have also heard it is better to eat first. Does anyone know which works best? I do 1 hour on the tredmill on inclines 5-10, speeds 4-7, 5 days a week for 1 hour a day. I usually burn 700 calories a day. :?

You can read about the pros and cons of such matters ad nauseum. Personally, I am very opinionated about this and feel that the highest priority should be what you enjoy most. I think that will have a far greater affect on your success than such details.

Years ago I climbed out of bed and ran nine miles every morning. Later I switched to the gym and had oj before I went. Now I have oj when I get up; oatmeal for breakfast later in the morning; then I go to the gym. It's all worked for me.

Just my thoughts,

Peter once again is right. You can make a case for both before or after you eat. And he is most correct in saying its what you enjoy most, because if you enjoy it you will be more likely to do it more often! I have tried both and quickly found out that i am by no means a morning person. I would rather sleep then do anything at the crack of dawn... i choose to workout after work but before dinner. it works for me and my busier then usual schedule and i enjoy running into some of the people at my gym. no matter when or how you burn your calories just make sure you are burning something! any calories burned is better then none... so keep up the good work!:chew:

Patesguy,

How different people are!

Before I retired I would often be on a routine where the alarm would go off at 5 am and I would be on the street running at 5:05... or in our local little gym at 5:10. I'd barely wake up and didn't even think about IF I wanted to do these things... just did it by habit. Or maybe in my sleep!

Once I tired of it and tried the gym after work. It was so crowded I never even changed into my workout clothes and went back to my old routine the next day.

People used to see me half asleep at the gym and kid me saying, "Wake up!" I'd always hold up my workout notes and say, "Why? I'm getting through my workout just fine!"

Anyway, this worked just great for me my whole working career. Oh, and the other thing is I never knew what would happen in terms of having to work late; horrible traffic getting home from work; or just not feeling like working out after a long day at the office. Those aren't factors at 5 am!

Glad you've found what works for YOU.

Depends on your goals.

If weight loss is you reason, then 100% train before eating.  As a competitve runner I eat two hours before training because of some of the distances I will run.  It all depends on your goals.
