Hi everyone - I am new to the diet game (like to lose about 45lbs) and have been searching in my spare time for a diet program. (I'm the type that needs a "game-plan.")
Read lots of reviews regarding several diets systems. An acquaintance of my wife was telling her of a diet program called Metabolic Balance that is supposedly big in Germany and apart from a web-site I can't find any reviews. Can anyone tell me anything about it? Or better yet, has anyone had experience with metabolic diet? Appreciate you input.

Never heard of it.
Your use of the phrase 'game plan' made me think of BFFM. Only if you like crunching numbers, though.

Hi Nir,
Thanks for your reply. Not immediately sure what BFFM is. (I will check on the net ..I am sure it's there.) I am not into counting calories, etc. Seems like a lot of work. But what I think I like about the metabolic balance program I mentioned is it give a costomized meal or nutrition plan that you work from. It couls take a lot of guess work out. At least this is what their web site claims. Maybe you should check out the site and tell me your thoughts.
Thanks and all the best, Paul

I've read up a bit about it. for example metabolic-balance.at/en/desktopdefault.aspx/tabid-3/72_read-59/ and elsewhere. Certainly it is more $$$ expensive than just reading a book - you pay for a "coach" (a great money-making opportunity for you, if you're the coach).
Personally I find it hard to relate to someone who has lots of money to spend on weight loss, but doesn't have the time and effort to do it themselves. Like they're trying to delegate the hard job to someone else...

Hi Nir,
Got it, BFFM - Burn Fat Feed Muscle.
I understand where your coming from regarding the money. And my experience is if you are not a pro and want results and value you will pay more. This is where my inquiry is leading me. So many books and opinions out there- I am not going to read them all or be confused by them. Comes down to what value does the program have and what results have others experienced. Compared to cost of the cholestorol pills I am taking the buy- back on this program is not so bad. (provided it gets my cholestorol down ) Another way of looking at it is - when I need to build a house I hire a contractor- if I open a company I hire an accountant. More often then not, in order to secure success it is prudent to go to a professional in the field you seek help. With that being said, the purpose of my original question - check out the organization and "professionals" fist. I will keep checking and see what I find. If you come up with anything I'd love to hear from you.
All the best, Paul

As you've mentioned cholesterol, I'd recommend another 'detour' for you - Dr Joel Fuhrman. Here on this site we like to recommend his book Eat To Live (though he has actually written another book all about lowering cholesterol, too). He doesn't believe in just telling you what to eat but also about why - in fact the first few chapters of Eat To Live give you the knowledge. Because you don't just need a contractor to build your house, you need a short course in house-building so you are able to competently deal with handywork as it arises from now until the end of your life, to be self sufficient.
As for cost - see if you can check it out free from your local library.
Ok, thinking about it a little, the paid-for version does exist, Dr Furhman does organise seminars and retreats where you you can pay more money and presumably be spoon-fed the information that's in the books, but the option is there to have it for free, and I'm pretty sure that his plant-based nutrition approach is the answer to most chronic health conditions, including high cholesterol

Cholesterol levels tends to rise as the age rises. Along with the pills that you take you can also lower cholesterol levels by eating more fruits and vegetables and regular exercise. You can also check out videomd.com which is a very interactive and useful resource online for cholesterol information.
