Hi. i am glad to have found this site. I posted in the help forum yesterday all of this. But here is my intro and back story.
I am married with a 5 year old son. I am 29 and 5'1 and weigh 155
Both of my parents got diagnosed with diabetes this year. Its was a wake up call to me to get healthy.
My husband is a 'snacker" and loves his red meat and potatoes. My son likes anything breaded you can dip in ketchup. So, that being that, my weight has slowly crept up over the years.
Then my sister-in-law lost 50 pounds and gave me all her "fat" clothes.
The day after christmas I started exercising. I dug my heels in and said i am gonna do this!! Now, I can set some goals and stick to them... ask me about what I did with debt...
So, i started with 1200 calories and 45 min work outs every day. i did this for a month. I GAINED 3 pounds !!!
At the advise of a friend i bumped my calories to am average of 1600 and work out 30 min 4-5 days and walk 1/2 mile in the evenings and also do 2-3 yoga sessions a week. I have been doing this for 3 months and I have not lost a single pound yet.
I have been to the doctor an and he said to give it 2 more months and then we will do blood work.
I am much stronger, and I know I have built muscle, But I would still love to drop pounds.
i am just looking for inspiration and encouragement. It is frustrating.
I have not had a soda in 5 years. I have not eaten fast food in over a year. I make my bread homemade. I eat all fruits and veggies and lean meats. i log every single bite online including gum. I don't skip workouts even when I have a cold. And, yet... no weight lost.

Hello and welcome,
It looks like you're getting some help in the Help forum. Just keep working and I'm sure you'll succeed. If you still don't make progress in another couple months you can look forward to your doctor's tests.
People aren't overweight because of medical conditions nearly as often as they claim to be ("I can't help it, it's my thyroid!"... as they eat a second piece of pie.). But there can be medical conditions so I'm glad your doctor will check if needed.
Also lease be sure to read the instructions for this forum which will point out some of the important features of the forums and website that you won't want to miss.

| Welcome! I'm 36 years old, married with 3 kids and my husband love to cook and make pastries. Diabetes is in my family also. During my pregnancies, my sugar was high all the time. They say diabetes isin my future IF I don't control my weight and food choices. Just reading your entry quick, I'm not sure why your not losing the weight. I'm 5 feet tall and 153 lbs. but I know why I'm not losing weight. It's because I'm eating too many sweets and I cut down on my exercise. Good luck and stick with this site!

Hi, it sounds like you are really dedicated and doing the right things. It must be frustrating to be stuck be hang in there. I am sure if you are persistent you will find something that works for you and the pounds will start coming off. With all that exercise you probably have put on some muscle.
I am glad you found us! I am 5'2" myself and I am trying to stick around 1200 cals per day along with exercise. I've been on this site for 4 months and I've learned that the people here have a lot of good advice/ideas and are a great support network. But you really do have to try things and find out what works for you.
Hoping that you stick around and we get to see you move off that plateau!

I am new as well. You have already taken a great step, we all have in dedicating ourselves to become healthier. Something you may want to do is get a tape measure and measure yourself (Be careful to measure in the same place everytime, use landmarks. i.e. 4 in from the bend of your elbow. Otherwise you may think your getting bigger when you actually just measured a slightly larger portion of your arm) You may be losing inches not pounds. Muscle weighs more than fat, so if you lose a pound of fat and gain 3 pounds of muscle you are leaner but gain 2 pounds.
Hang in there. I have been at 160 for the last 2 weeks and about to lose my mind. I am not losing any weight, but my clothes are fitting looser every week so something good is happening. Just don't lose sight of your goal. Look at every day as a dietary objective you have to achieve. Once the day is done then congratulate yourself on a job well done or set yourself up to make improvements for the day to come. Never repremand yourself, it discourages you and makes you want to quit.
I have lost 15 pounds in about 2.5 months. I didn't lose an ounce until I gave myself reasonable goals. I know in the back of my mind I still have 25 pounds to lose, but all I let myself look at is the next 5 pounds, because 5 pounds is easy. I can do 5 pounds. I get discouraged when I think about losing 25 pounds it seems so far away, but 5 pounds may only be 2 weeks away. I don't beat myself up for eating a cookie (I at 1/2 piece of cake last night it was my birthday but I haven't had a sweet in over a week before that). I am just greatful I was able to make it as long as I had without eating a sweet. If you deprive yourself those joys or punish yourself for occasionally induldging (with a piece not a whole pie) then you'll never succeed because in your mind your failing.
I believe that weight loss is as much a psychological battle as much as it is physiological. If your like me you can blame a little of your problem on genetics, #%@&! genetics. (Almost everyone in my family is either overweight or suffering from heart disease) But once you decide to commit no one can stop you. Use the small successess (even if it isn't a loss. i.e. I turned down a scrumptious looking piece of cheesecake or I only had one slice of pizza) as your fuel, your power, your motivation; and use your little mishaps as learning experiences and nothing more (okay I probably shouldn't have had that hot fudge sundea, but it was good: I will do an extra 15 min. of cardio tomorrow and cut 50 cal. and problem solved)
Well, I hope that I have been helpful. I am under a "lot of work to do" on the new member intro page if you need me. I really do wish you the best of luck!!!
