61,2kg!(134.9 lb)

It's been a very long time since I had such a big loss, and I know this for a fact, so I am very very pleased. And surprised!

And good luck to those who are struggling. We all know how that feels, so hang in there!

Hey ArtistJohn, we are riff with it in Cornwall. It's everywhere! My sister in law has it, so has her best friend and her cousins children. I know plenty of people who have had it over the last few weeks.

I got a bit rough for a few days, but its hard to tell if its just being under the weather or mild symptoms? Hopefully just mild symptoms and like you said it it mutates, I'll be better off for it?!

Hi to 3 new peeps. There is only 5 weeks of this challenge left and you are welcome to join, but;

Your goals are 9 and 10 lbs. If you look at our table above and last few challenges the highest losers lose at 0.9 of a lb per week Maintaining a loss of 0.9 lb for 8 weeks is tough . The only people who lose more are the bigger guys.

If you want to change your goal to a more achievable goal let me know.

This is a marathon not a sprint:grin:

Today's weight is 126.4 lbs. I think most of my loss this week was water weight. I'm guessing the pace will start to slow down next week.

I'm struggling to get back on track...every time I do somethings happens like my son taking us out to lunch and it's the eat all you can deal!!! Life just gets in my way.

No excuses I'm starting AGAIN tomorrow....and got battery for my scales...I'm terrified to step onto them but will do it tomorrow and log my weight in. I've got to start somewhere.

1 lb even lost this week.  So that brings me down to 175.  I'm not likely to make my end of challenge goal but I'll see how close I can get.

Lami, good for you, we are all here to support you. I think most if not all of us have been where you're at. I was off badly and just got back on track this last week and I know I can easily slip again. We are trying to change a life style and that isn't easy but you have the motivation going and I bet you will do it. You are right, we all have to start somewhere...baby steps.

A suggestion for those all you can eat places, if it is the type where you serve yourself swap the salad plate and the dinner plate. In other words use the big plate and make a big salad (dressing on the side) and then use the smaller plate for the rest of the food. It gives you a lot less space for the bad stuff and you fill up on salad. Anyeay, just a thought.

I'm still maintaining my 1lb challenge loss at 53.5kg (117.8lb) but this is proving to be increasingly more difficult and the graph below tells the story. I'm also including a rambling paragraph from my diary narrative.

First thing in the morning 1.6 kilos of potatos remain and will likely all go today. Mum probably still reluctant to dig again in the allotment as last time a fair proportion proved to be disappointingly small. I could buy a large sack or a small bag in the market or (shock horror) try a few potato-free days with more calories coming fom wholegrains (popcorn, bread, crackers, muesli, oats etc.), dried fruit (dates and raisins) and legumes (lentils). After 13 days at 1850 calories I'm a bit disappointed as just sticking to 53.5kg feels like a challenge, never mind seeing lower numbers - I am torn as things looked better at 1800 but then again much of that period was sans potatos - I'm comparing apples and oranges (and potatos, ha ha). Certainly if you asked me a year or two ago if I had a problem with potatos I would have looked at you in a funny way "you must be kidding". What would make me happier - a scale that plays by my rules or more potatos? Not that my behaviour around the scale is entirely sane, it is all very well wanting to increase my strength and gain muscle but I want to do this without gaining any weight (hello?). Why is it that my self-worth is tied up with the ability to reduce my weight in such an irrational manner? Not much difference between 1850 and 1800 so if 1850 is acceptable for strength surely 1800 will be as well? I am undecided. Had this 30kg batch of potatos for exactly 3 weeks - an average of 1.4kg consumed per day.

Up a pound, but I'm actually pleased that I didn't gain more. These past few week I've been moving--no gym, no scale, no internet to track my food, and eating out most of the time. :pig:

Artist John, don't pull out....that is the whole point of having a weight loss community...if we only have successes then where is the challenge? We are all here because we are fighting a lifetime battle and I doubt anyone here thinks it will always be downhill. On top of just every day life, you've been sick...don't be so hard on yourself. I know that is easier said the done. Why is it we are so hard on ourselves and so forgiving of others? Some weird quirk of human nature I guess. Anyway, instead of being down on yourself, or even worse quitting , think what you would say to any one of us if we were thinking of giving up and put those same words back at yourself.  I don't want to preach but I really do believe I have had the success I've had (and I have had times I back slide) but the success is due in a large part to these challenges and this community. You've lost a battle....now go win the war!

Hello everyone.  Hope all is well with everyone.  How are you feeling ArtistJohn?  Getting better I hope!

My weight is 134.0 and the important thing is after a week I finally feel as though I'm getting back in the habit of watching what I eat.  My food choices over all are much better compared to when I started the challenge.

ArtistJohn, you were very wise in saying 'it's not a sprint, it's a marathon.'  I think viewing it that way can be a key tool in whether or not we are successful in actually achieving our goal in the long term.  What is that other saying?  'You never fail as long as you keep trying'It is absolutely true!

Hiker and I must have been posting around the same time.  I just wanted to add a thought regarding Hiker's post.

I agree with everything that was said, but I'd also like to add if I were in ArtistJohn's position my instinct would be exactly the same as his.  I'm sure most of the population is like this.  We are all very self conscious and don't see things the way other people see them.  So I can completely understand the idea of wanting to drop out.  In fact the same thought crossed my mind when my weight went up 2.5 lbs over my starting weight, but then I remembered I was doing this for myself - not because of what other people think of me.  I am doing it to get back in the habit of being mindful of what I eat and making progress towards being and feeling healthier.

I love this forum because of all the kind people on here.  We all truly rejoice in each others progress and put our judgements aside.  We all know what it's like to struggle.

I agree with Hiker, any progress I've made has been the fruit of the compassion and knowledge that others have shared in this :cph: community.

Hi guys and thanks for your kind and insightful words. You are both absolutely right. As your man Kennedy said we do these things because they are difficult not because they are easy. I am getting there and trying to think positive and take it a day at a time.

Eaten really well today so far and got vegetable curry for dinner. Aiming to start weighing food again on Wednesday and seeing some move in the right direction.

Getting my head round making this challenge a matter of getting back to start weight and getting healthy.

mmmmnnn... What is vegetable curry?  That sounds good!  Is 'curry' a certain way of seasoning things or is it a way of cooking?  What is it exactly?

Hi Artist John,

Glad you've reconsidered.........getting back on track is hard after a relapse and you've not been well. I've been feeling fine and still find it hard to get my head into the right place. But you know quitting is the easy option, dig in and like others have said don't be so hard on yourself. You're curry sound delicious.

Thanks Lami. I've had my first ok day for a while. Good food and a good walk too:grin:

On the curry front at the last minute my wife put yesterdays cold chicken in with veggies and I think it makes it yummy. Just an idea for the leftovers.

In fact some Mondays we just curry up all of Sundays leftovers.

Weighed myself today and currently weigh 187.1 lbs.

Almost at my  goal weight and have a month to go.

Sorry to hear that you are still sick John -- stick in there and that weight will come off in no time. Once you return to your full physical state, the weigh will melt off quickly. Stick with it.

Just change the color before you type the numbers, and change it back to black after you type the numbers. Hit reply, then look above the text block. You should see a drop down menu that already says black. Hit the down arrow to make the drop down menu appear and select red. You can also change the size the same way using the numbers to the left of the color menu.

Thanks everyone for trying to help me get this problem sorted. It is so annoying that I can't seem to do a simple task like change size and colour. I know I said I wasn't very comp. lit. but I'm not usually that bad. I do know how to change font, size and colour and it usually works any other time. It could be I don't know how to use this MacBook!!!

I'll persevere and eventually get it sorted.

Artist John Sorry my weight will not stand out until I get to the bottom of this.
