OK, I never found a minute to post for Wednesday.  I didn't do much, just a 30 minute walk with students- the first walk was 20 minutes with an extremely irate young man, that was pretty brisk cardio!!  The second was a nice walk with a group of students, another 10 minutes.

Today = 40 minutes on the treadmill (3.25 miles, an easy jogging pace)

20 minutes toning- Leslie Sansons stability ball for abs and upper body

Thought I'd add an automatic totals column just to see if I could do it.   MJ, for some reason it hit me as really funny that you called it a "retraction."

I'd like to print a retraction... I really really really wanted it to be true that I was going to do that strength training tonight... I did plan on it, and I even typed it in here to motivate myself... but nope.  My calf is bugging me a bit after that run, and it is late and I am tired... of course, I had other excuses the other days this week, but that's today's series of excuses...

Finished mowing the lawn in 20 minutes, picked up sticks and limbs and carried them to the curb at a fast pace for a grand total of 32 minutes.   BTW, that's approx 0.6 miles of mowing so I mowed at 1.8 mph.   (Oops, I'm being corny again.)   At the end of this challenge I might have the most mowed lawn on the block, for a change.

May 1:   Cardio: 32 mins;  Strength: None (unless I get motivated tonight)

I did 3.5hrs of painting, so that is  210 min of cardio for today.

not sure if i will paint tomorrow, we are supposed to get rain.....finished another 5 gallons and made it to the front door...just under half way done! :)

I got a good walk in today as well as some weights so for Friday it's 210 minutes cardio and yes on the strength.

Congratulations to Hiker and BJD for meeting the guidelines already!

Went to Walmart and got one of those exercise bands today.   It had a "free" DVD in it with 30 mins cardio and 20 mins strength.   I sat on the couch and watched it.

That woman went so fast through the strength part you didn't have time to get the bands in place before she was going to the next exercise.

So I started it over and paused at each exercise.   Actually it wasn't half bad.  Concentrated on arms, shoulders, legs and glutes.   It worked at slightly different angles than what I've been doing with the weights, so it's a good switch off occasionally.

So, added:    May 1: Strength: Yes

Where is everyone tonight?   Partying, I guess.   I can't even find Helen.

OK, I totally talked myself out of exercise b/c my calf is still sore.  Didn't seem to happen when I was exercising, just random in the middle of the day... went to doc today for physical and she made me get ultrasound b/c I am on the pill, but it is fine (knew that anyway but whatever)... I have been stretching it for two days now, gently and routinely, it is just SORE.  My other excuse tonight is a houseful of teens- my son and three friends, and I didn't want to work out in the living room in front of them!  But... so proud... when they went out to the garage to play ping pong, I did the Leslie stability ball DVD that I backed out of yesterday- 20 minutes, so check me off for strength training today (FINALLY)!!!

30 mins walk this morning and then went shopping for about 2 hours(whatever that calories burned is I have no idea... So I'd prolly not count it.)  Hiked back to the bus stop with my goodies to catch the bus home and then hiked my way up the hill from that bus stop homeward.  Then I got home and realized I had forgotten to get something for dinner!  (Duh! stupid me!)  So I walked to the nearest store, (about 30 minutes total) and then got home and cleaned house (dishes, dusting, sweeping, mopping, vacuumed and shampooed the carpets.)  Seriously it made me break a sweat between that last walk to the store and then cleaning house!!! lol I am pathetic!:tongue:

I'm sorry about your calf MJ.   It's good you're giving it a little rest.   I'm still nursing a sore back from shoveling Sunday.   Too many things to do to give it a rest.  Thought I'd update this morning, because I'll be gone most of the day today.

Nancy, I'd like to take credit for two strength sessions so far this week... but I copped out of the Thursday session and had to put in another post to say no strength that day... just cardio as usual.

Today's exercise so far was 30 minutes on the treadmill (2.25 mile walk w/ incline/jog/run combo) and 20 minutes on the elliptical = 50 minutes cardio.  If I do strength I will come back and post later... hope nobody is holding her breath~

I had a horrible migraine yesterday too.  I thought it was from not enough water because I woke up and felt like I had a hangover or something but I drank juice and water and tea off and on all day and it did not help.  Finally it worn down and hurt less at night and when i woke up it was gone!  I am wondering if it was lack of caffeine.  I have been avoiding coffees and stuff lately so maybe that was it.

Laundry day again.  Gonna pack up two loads in my duffel bags and go down the street to the laundry mat.  The neighbor lady said she would go with me and do her's as well.

It's about a
50 min walk total so I will count that as my cardio exercise.  When I get home I am going to do my 15 mins of weight training and 30 mins calisthenics.

I got in touch with a guy I found on the Army forums at Goarmy.com.  He sent me a paper he deemed "the plan" of which he has been using since January this year to lose weight.  It looks similar to what I am doing just he is doing more exercise.  I will post it in my journal section:

Hi back of track after headache yesterday.

completed

30 mins running
30 mins walking
5 mins cross trainer

and daaadaaaaaa

started some strengthening exercises with 3lb weights. Do these type of exercises count?

4 x 10 arm raises
4 x 10 arm side raises
4 x 10 arm back lifts
4 x 10 windmill
4 x 10 right arm over head
4 x 10 left arm over head

4 x 10 left leg forward lift
4 x 10 right leg forward lift
4 x 10 left leg side lift
4 x 10 right leg side lift
4 x 10 left leg back lift
4 x 10 right leg back lift

Tried on MOB dress and it's looking good....probably need to tone my butt a bit more but I'm feeling confident that I'll do that in time for the wedding.

Any good exercises to tone bottom?

Good job on the strength exercises!!!

Lami wrote:

Here are a couple simple ones I like, with no equipment:

Pelvic lift:

http://www.getyourbuttinshape.com/index.php?page=buttexercises&exercise=pelviclift

Leg lifts from this position, either straight or bent leg, and you can add weights.  Make sure to hold your lower back straight with muscles tight so you don't arch your back while doing it.

hello!

just wrapped up a full day of rebuilding the deck. here is what we did today. laid out the base boards, firmed up the existing deck we were building off of, laid out 2x4's for sizing, then cut them, often lifting twice and flipping to finish a 45' cut..then holding up boards while he secured them, then once we had the deck done, we began on the pavers being relaid coming from the deck to the sidewalk. so as he laid them, i cleaned them, flipped each one four times then walked anywhere between 5-12 feet to set them down for him to place. We worked from 10-7pm. we took breaks but ate at the deck, munched all day, had two pepsis between us, lots of sun tea, water, cheese, ham, etc...ate ok, no good really aside from 6 choco cookies i burned off easily.

I think it would be fair to put me down for 4 hrs of strength and 5 hrs of cardio taking away breaks thru the day. That is 240 min of strength and 300 min of cardio for sunday, closing my weekend out strong.

Tomorrow we just need to finish out the pavers, we have done about 75% of the job, so tomorrow we may rest a bit. Dad never came today to paint, so that is still needing to be complete... :)

Man, BJ you've been super busy!  I have been going through paperwork and organizing stuff around the house.  Kinda like a spring cleaning...

Then I headed to the store for groceries and came home and made a huge pot of split pea soup!

Anyone like split pea soup?  (People normally love my soup)

I took half an onion, a bag of split peas, 1 chopped large carrot, 2 chopped celery stalks, 2 minced garlic cloves, a couple crisp chopped bacon strips and a little salt and pepper and slow cooked it for about an hour or so.  (make sure when cooking dried stuff to add salt later as it keeps it from cooking fast!)

For those who like that sort of thing, I think it's amazing.  I have no idea how good or bad it is for me...  There's lots of veggies in it and you don't HAVE to add a meat to it!  The cooler it gets the thicker it gets just like a gravy so I have been adding a little bit of water now and then to make it soupier. :grin:

BTW no exercise yet today besides walking around at the store. I've been too busy cleaning!  Just came to check in on everyone!

Karels, I love split pea soup and your recipe sounds delicious. I never cook anything so the only time I get good split pea soup is if my mother in law makes a big batch and takes pity on my. It's no secret in my family that I do not cook. I don't think it is the best soup calorie wise. peas are a starchy vegetable  a cup of split pea has about 230  calories and 5 grams of fat, a cup of chicken noodle has 110 calories and 2.5 grams of fat. Of course those are just average, it depends on the brand or recipe. Still it is a health choice and a lot better choice than a chocolate chip cookie .

Had a good strength workout tonight on most all major muscle groups.  Three sets with various reps and weights until it burned each time.  Added one I made up, with resistance bands, that simulates shoveling.  It took 6 days to get over the last shoveling event.  I hope this helps next time.

May 4:  Cardio: none   Strength: Yes

hello everyone!

yesterday was a much quieter day around here...Davey did some more work on the pavers...i cleaned and moved them for him until we had no more to use, broke up some to fill in with a sledge hammer, shoveled dirt to level areas, raked etc...so we have revamped our deck and the pavers that lead out to the cement, it looks like it was always this way. i love it.

for monday, please put me down for 1.5 (90 min) hours cardio and 40 min strength.

The rest of the day, i actually took a small nap and we just laid low. Our hot tub has to be fixed, so the best we could do for aches was a hot bath with lavender bubbles..that helped. :)

And so, i am back to my starting wt of 168. What am i not doing???:dizzy:

LOL.

Betsy, that much exercise is bound to have given you some muscle. Do your clothes still fit the same, or less? Do you take measurements regularly? If so, maybe you should take them again. Remember, the scale reflects a lot more than just fat.

Another thought - with all that working out, did you increase your water intake? The higher your physical activity, the more water you need. Not drinking enough can cause water retention, which is also reflected on the scale.

LMAO...:grin: thanks SOOO MUCH for putting me into perspective....you know i really am tooo hard on myself.....

I didnt increase but i kept myself hydrated. Yesterday I did better on that plane....but sunday for sure, i know i didnt drink enough WATER....had sun tea instead...bad, i know....My clothes are falling off of me, still. I havent taken measurements since easter. I was going to wait till the end of this challenge......i try to do so monthly or every two months...

I think I forget that just being up and about and busy also burns calories, and though i wasnt doing really intensive things yesterday that i do still burn the calories...its such a complicated science.....argh...

thank you again for making me laugh...i surely dont want to sound so blah and bored that i am not doing enough or that i am dissapointed....although much of the time i am....i am not strong enough...ever!

BTW....your loss is awesome! You are on fire nic!!!!:caution::star:

OMG I didn't see that 1billion mins post!  >.<  You're so funny!

I didn't get on here yesterday but I did my 30 mins walking cardio, 15 mins weights and 40 mins calisthenics and then 40 mins on my bike (3 miles on the way to Curves.) And I walked the 3 miles home pushing my stupid bike because the back tire / gears got jammed!  So there's an hour of intense stupid bike puching workout!  To top it off it began to pour rain down on me!

I don't know what is wrong with it.  When I first bought it the gears poped apart and all of the little ball bearings came out!  It acted like it was slipping gears when really it was dispensing all of the little beebies out!!!  I had it repaired then for free but it isn't under warrenty still.  My Mr.Man, Dave, said he'd take a look at it and see what he could do.

Yesterday I signed up for the Curves women's 1 month fitness study and did my first 15 min circuit.  It didn't seem too hard but I did notice and can feel that it worked! So this traveling 6 miles total to get there and back and then the workout while there will be a 3 day a week thing.   *yay*  I came home last night and made Dave make dinner and I flopped onto the bed and fell asleep I was so burnt out!

i have an early report for today. got out early to finish up the yard work. I moved 24 cinder blocks, raked out two areas of yard, fed and cleaned poo out of the horses area, watered. Total 2 hours.

Tonite, from 5pm to 620pm i demolished portions of another wall. I removed a total of 6 cinder blocks, moved them about 25 ft and stacked, chipped off the stucco wall and only broke one block! Last summer, I wasnt strong enough and broke too many in our demolishing..we are redoing our courtyard walls as well, along the front of the house...ongoing project. So.....can you please put me down for:

Please put me down for 135 min strength and 120 min cardio for tuesday. Still doesnt make up for the amount of food i ate today, but i started my period, so it explains all of it!!!

Still have to paint but we havent made any more progress there, its kinda on hold till dad back into action too.:smile:

Lisa, I'm interpreting this as 30+40+60=130 minutes cardio, all for Monday?  Plus strength.   I'm assuming calistenics is strength.   Please correct me if I'm wrong.   -N

I started the week off well with 45 minutes of brisk walking on the treadmill with a nice incline... of course, no strength... someone holler at me or something OK?  The plan is... to do that tonight... we'll see what my level of follow-through is!

I tried a new class today....Zumba, it is a dance/fitness class to latin music. What a blast and it was a really good work out. So for Monday, I got 45 minutes of cardio in, no strength.

Ok, today was a good day for cardio. I did my bike this morning, but only for 20mins. cause I kept getting interupted and decided to just quit until I had time for it. Then this afternoon I ended up doing another 80 minutes on it. Now I just got done with my walk for the night. So, ended up with 140 minutes ~ for tuesday.... No strength today!

I'm not sure what to call calisthenics!   It's like push-ups, crunches, core training, jumping jacks.. so it's sort of a combo of strength and cardio I suppose!

Okay so Monday morning I did:

  • 30 minute walk
  • 15 weight training with some weights
  • 40 minutes of calisthenics

Then in the afternoon I did:

  • 40 minute bike ride to the gym
  • 15 minute intense machine work out at the gym
  • 60 minute, 3 mile walk back home from the gym because my back bike tire was busted and stuck... (I had to sort of drag / carry the bike home!!!)

So that's like 130 minutes of cardio, 30 minutes of weight training, and the 40 minutes calisthenics (whatever you decide that best fits) for Monday.

TODAY I did a 30 minutes walk with Dave and that's it! Tomorrow I am off to the gym again but I think I will be walking there! ...Stupid bike...
