I officially kicked my own butt last night. I did my regular Tuesday cardio; which was no big deal...but my weight training was pretty intense. Work was slow and their was a Phillies game on at 7pm. So I went around the strength training room and turned all the TVs onto the game. I had to work until 9pm and I was so into the game I didn't notice that I lifted weights for 1 hr 45min!!! I am soooo sore today. I did only upper body. When I got home last night I was shaking a little trying to lift my fork to eat dinner. lol!!
Tuesday's Exercise
Cardio: 30 mins StairMaster (level 4); 30 mins recumbent bike (level 5)
Strength training: 1 hr 45 min total;
Machine Weight Reps Sets
Seated Row 80 15 3
Lat Pull Down 80 15 3
Back Extension 120 15 3
Oblique Twist 80 15 6
Ab Crunch 80 25 4
Chest Press 80 15 3
Pec Fly 40 15 3
Tricep Dip 80 15 3
Shoulder Press 20 15 3
Bicep Curl 40 15 3

I DIDNT SPEND A BUNCH OF MONEY ON MINE. I GOT MINE AT WALMART. THEY WERE EITHER DR SCOLLS, WALMART BRAND I THINK! He isn't eligible for insurance until, I think, November this year. But thanks for the info! I will tell him to take a look when he's at work next! (the shoe section is RIGHT by the break room!)
Kinda icky cold day out today so I am doing all my work out indoors.
- 30 min cardio
- 40 calisthenics
- 15 weights
And for the record I love those elliptical things!

Reporting 30mins of Cardio. Again. Sigh. Well, at lest I'm being steady, which for me is no small thing.
The weekend with the BF (who is on a fitness kick) may yield some more intense exercise. Fingers crossed.

DMG, WOW, that is some serious weight lifting. Good for you, wish I was 1/2 that motivated when it comes to weights. I make myself do some minimal stuff but I hate every minute of it, I would rather walk 10 miles than lift a single weight .
Today, Wednesday please put me down for 35 minutes cardio (walking) and I did strengh as well...as much as I hate it I did it.

Hi Everyone
Reporting progress.....might start doing exercise at night. I sometimes feel a bit pressured in the morning with work, even although I do manage to fit it in, if I feel like maybe doing an extra minute or two, I could see me using 'I've got my to get to work' as an excuse not to. (yes, I know all my tricks)
Evening appears to be best in terms of me pushing myself further.
Tonight I did
5 min walk
36 min jog/run (yes, 1 more minute)
6 mins cross trainer (really pushed myself to do that extra one minute)
10 min flab machine
Is cardo the best way to burn calories?
All the experts say reduce calories and exercise to loose weight, so I have to hang on there!!!! by a tack as they say here in Scotland!!!!

I agree with Hiker, DMG...wow, you blow my little workouts out of the water! I feel like a wimp after seeing all the hard work you put into that strength set! Good Job! Be sure to rest for a day before going back....you dont want to tear muscles.
As for me today was an ok day, have a bad headache! :( But i pushed thru the workouts nonetheless!!!!
Strength: 40 minutes:
60/15/3 (weight/repetitions/set of reps) increased reps by 2 from 13 last week.
shoulder press, bench press, deltoid row/squat combo, tricep push, butterfly press.
80/15/3
abdomenal crunches, leg extensions and lateral rows.
Cardio: walking with mj for 40 minutes at about 2-2.5mph since we walked together today, no stroller.
I need to vacuum now! Have a nice nite ladies! See you tomorrow!

Tuesday was my "day of rest" which is a key part of exercise. That fact used to be lost on me, but the muscles need time to repair and build between sessions! Anyway, for today (Wednesday):
25 minutes core secrets dvd- a great workout with the stability ball and weights, focuses on toning and strengthening all areas of the body
35 minutes jog (3 miles) on the treadmill!!! Yup, went and picked up my used treadmill today. Yippee!
Again, I would gladly trade Nancy strength training for cardio. I can do cardio all day long. Hate the weights, but this challenge makes me actually think about it and take action!!

Shins almost back to normal. I think the problem was the new shoes with a little higher heel, putting feet at a different angle than I'm used to.
Fast walk to the track, 2 laps (1/3 jogging, 2/3 walking) back for 31 mins.

Just an update... It finally cleared up out here and so I took a weighted backpack (about 20 lbs) and walked around the area for about 1 hour (took a 10 min break halfway through) on top of that work out I did this morning.
Edit: I soooo feel like taking a nap now! But I have to go clean the place...
Also, I found a couple cool articles and one has a word doc link in the text that you can download for meal plan ideas and steps to take. VERY informative!

Ok, put me down for 100mins cardio-wed. I didn't do anything else, beside about 5mins of yoga and I don't think that counts.

Hey yoga is a good work out.. I don't know what category it would fall under though. there's a place down the road from me that does "hot" yoga. I was thinking.. is there "hot" guys there...? LOL My friend said they heat the room up like a sauna while you do poses. Sounds... Cleansing... and sweaty! There's high impact yoga too but I can't remember the name...
30 minute walk and on my way to do...
40 minutes calisthenics and 15 min weights
I started trying to incorporate some weights into my other work outs... kinda like using a medicine ball...
Found one of those life inspiring stories a bit ago too

11:03: Unloaded 14 bales of hay and 3 50lb bags of alfalfa pellets from truck and stacked in garage---fast! This took 15 minutes, so started immediately jogging around the pasture. The goats started chasing me so I jogged them into the pen, jogged back to garage, loaded two bales of hay into the EZGO (one minute of driving), stacked them in the goat barn. Jogged back and let the goats out. Finished at 11:45. Will do strength exercises later tonight.

Nancy you don't need false exercise you do it naturally!!!! It's the best way and you get your work done too. I love the image of you getting chased by your goats I bet they love it. I used to play hide and seek with my kids and two border collies you should have heard them howling, woofing, tail wildly wagging when they eventually caught us...such great fun that was.
I'm able to go to treadmill without thinking negative thoughts its now becoming a routine and one I'm beginning to look forward to. I like to challenge myself but it's getting harder.
Oh for the record last night, I did 5 min walk after run which I forgot to add. I think you should also start to add the cross trainer as I can now time that in minutes and that is far harder and more challenging than the running.
tonight I did
5 min walk
37 min run/jog (1 minute more)
5 min walk
7 min cross trainer
10 min body shaper
slowly getting to my goal of running non stop for 1 whole hour!!!! Now when I reach that goal I'll be shouting from the roof tops.

Is body shaping the same as strength exercise? I guess I'm not sure what you mean. Help me out here. Sorry.
If you'll add up the minutes for me then there's less chance I'll get it wrong. You're doing great! I'm glad you enjoy it. I haven't yet learned to like it much.
I know it's kinda corny to talk about the goats, but I enjoy being corny sometimes. And those goats are such funny, mischievous characters.

Strength for today:
Three sets of the following for at least 15/12/10 reps:
Leg lifts: quads, hamstring, inner & outer thigh (w/5 lb wts)
Bicep curls(11.6 lbs)
Deltoids(5 lbs)
Triceps(upper body wt)
Back (Reverse Fly?, 5 lb wt)
Crunches (forward & cross)
Glute crunches
Lower abs
Plus 16 knee pushups(8/8).
I know, downright pathetic compared to dmg, but what can I say? Even that nearly killed me.

Thursday-
Walked 32 minutes on the treadmill. I used an old training trick- start @ no incline and slowly up it to max incline, and then slowly bring it back down to no incline. I generally walk at 3.8-4.0 mph depending on the incline, and do about 2 minutes at each level on the way up (10 settings, up to 12% incline) and then about 1 minute of each on the way down. It really breaks a sweat, and helps to build muscle and develop hill running capabilities. I forgot how much of a workout walking can be!
No strength today... trying to do that day of rest thing.

Ok, I got lazy yesterday and took the evening off. I did ride my bike at naptime, so I got a little bit in. Then before we went out last night I did my yoga and strength stuff on the wii fit.
So, 55mins cardio and 20mins strength

It's funny, you guys are all further west than me and on top of that I am a definate mornign person so while you talk about Thursday I'm on Friday .
I've finished my exercise for Friday, Cardio-35 minutes Strength-Y.
I have a 13.5 mile walk planned for tomorow and an 11 or 12 mile (depending on the route) for Sunday so I will get my cardio in on the weekend but not much if any strength training I'm afraid.
Have a great weekend everyone.

Hi Nancy
The machine that needs to be included, is the cross trainer. I have been doing that in minutes and can now measure how long I'm on it. Before I just used to count and I wasn't probably even doing 1 minute!!! I'm not sure if it could be considered strengthening, if anyone knows it would be good to get advice
.
The body shaper (flab machine) is like one of those vibrator machines, it doesn't count for anything we're doing here as I just stand there and let the machine wobble my flabby bits. I just put it in as it must have some benefits, what I don't know.
I find the cross trainer harder going than the treadmill and that's one of the reasons I wanted it included, it's a challenge.
I plan to do my exercise later on tonight. Daughter had dress fitting today and looked stunning (I would think that eh) but she did. So flat out, 6 weeks to the big day!!!!!

Well, that wasn't the worse part of it all. It was all the beers and ribs I ate when we went out last night. Probably gained back the 2lbs I had lost.
Oh well, can't be a saint all the time...

You guys are silly!
This morning I had an appointment with an adviser for Curves fitness. Since it was 3 miles away from my home I decided to walk there! I thought it would take me longer because I noticed recently that I start to slow down my pace after a bit. But I kept it up and got there in about 45 mins.... I was early to my appointment!
I told the lady I walked there and she was excited for me.
So in total it was 6 miles round trip and took about 1 hour and 25 mins.

LOL, Hiker!!!
Cindy takes naps? I just don't believe it. I wouldn't be surprised if she never sleeps at all - she's always moving and doing something. As if chasing kids around all day isn't exercise enough, she chooses to get in "real" exercise during their naptime. Fascinating.

| OK, today was 35 minutes on the treadmill, with warm up and cool down, did 2.8 miles. A slower jog than normal but I am trying to do it every day and don't want to burn out. Also, I got one of my students to walk during his counseling session today, we trekked across some fields to a pond and around the trails in the back of the school, for 15 minutes. Total cardio today = 50 minutes... note there was NO strength training again... gotta do that tomorrow though...

Missed my exercise routine last night had to drop off sing star machine for my daughter!!! I know. But resisted once again the craving for a McD...it was sooo strong I couldn't beleive it. I wondered what force was driving me to CRAVE so badly a McD. I talked myself out of it 'are you hungry? do you need it? what about you're dress? if you have this it will set you off in a binge....so managed to resist.
Got up early today and dada.........just finished another personal best!!!!
5 min walk
41 Run/jog (I was going for 40 then wanted to make the 3mile mark and kept going)
10 min walk
5 min cross trainer (got muddled up with timer will need to increase this)
Total for today 61 mins!!!! yippee. I should be up to my 60 mins without stopping by the end of the 6 week challenge!!! that will be my goal.

| WOW, I am exhausted but in a good way! my first round of exercise today was the Core Secrets DVD which is strength training- 25 minutes. Then I hopped on the treadmill for 15 minutes and did a brisk walk w/ incline. I didn't do too much because of time limits, and because I knew I would be walking to the park for a concert tonight, which is 2 miles round trip. When we got to the park at around 9:30, there were a lot of drunk people around, and teenagers... we had walked down with our boys, and my son's 6 friends so they could hang out too. Anyway, we decided to walk a look outside the park and back into the other entrance, and did that twice while the kids milled around the park listening to this band Eve 6. It ended up being about 1.25 hours walking total between walking there and walking home. That puts me at 90 minutes cardio for the day. It was a VERY brisk walk and my legs are worn out!!

Still feeling dull but did a strength set tonight anyway. It was a struggle. Basically the same exercises as last time, same number of reps, but this time it was much harder! I've substituted squeezing a beachball for inner thigh instead of leg lifts, and omitted biceps cause I'll get that tomorrow.
Unless something unexpected happens, we plan to clean all the winter straw pack out of the goat barn tomorrow. That is a huge stinky job using pitchfork and shovel, lots of upper body exercise. Going to pace myself to keep heartbeat rate up for at least 30 minutes continuous, and get a last cardio workout for the week at the same time.
Good night everyone. Good night Helen. (Helen really needs to work on that waistline.)

Was there not a Helen of Troy? (am I imagining that) it's a grand name for our mascot.
Nancy I forgot to say here that I didn't manage to do any exercise on Friday. If you could move the total you've put in for Fri to Sat. thanks.
Well today, I was watching the London Marathon on tv and thought it would inspire me....I managed to do another personal best (PB) Was hoping I'd achieve the 60 min goal but I decided not to push too hard. It is only 2 weeks since I started and I feel I'm progressing without putting myself off. Mind you after watching the marathon athletes it makes me feel sooooo slowwwwwwwwww. Never mind Helen the Hamster I'll be
Toddle the Tortoise!!!!
5 min walk
45 min run/jog
10 min walk
5 min cross trainer
Total 65 mins
My dress is beginning to look better on me already and that's only been 2 weeks. If I keep this up it will look perfect by 6 weeks.

Gee whiz, you all are motivating. Maybe you should take your challenge "on the road".
I thought about joining this, but I'm not about to do strength training with my current calorie intake. You all are doing wonderfully, though - keep it up!

Nick, you could just do the cardio part. Of course it seems you don't have any trouble getting motivated to do that, anyway.
What a day! Routine was: (pitchfork straw pack into wheelbarrow, wheel to pile and dump, wheel back). Repeat over and over and over..... First round: 83 minutes nonstop. Second round: 55 minutes nonstop. Definitely couldn't sing while doing it. Gnats and flies dive-bombing for your ears was fun, too.
Then 73 more minutes of raking and shoveling, not quite as intense. Really gave arms, back and shoulders a workout today, but I'm not going to count it because it was too specific. And all on only 450 calories in.
This is a once a year job, thank goodness. Had some banana nut bread afterward. Too tired to make dinner yet. Got to go feed my two cats.
April 26: Cardio: 138 mins.
ps, I just saw Helen trying to do crunches:

ok guys...heres my day! whew...one down one more to go!
building a fence around an area of 47'x36' rectangle, incl two gates that were built from scratch. I loaded all items needed at the store up down shift around and down then up and then down and up one more time...we had 3 flat bed carts of stuff!!!
8am-10am at home depot: Lifting and moving 3 5 gallon paint cans, 3 gallon paint cans, 3 50lb bag of quikrete, 8 2x4's, 6 4x4's, 5 bags of 10lbs mulch, 3 bags of fertilizer, 35lb bag of grass seed, 3'x50' fencing rolled up, 25 steel posts 5' in length...whew..
then home, started at 11am, raking inside the fenced area, pulling and removing 3 juniper bushes with a hand saw and moving them about 35' to outer field for burning. Assist in placing all posts, attaching fencing, etc....
so lets see, we started 11am-7 pm with one hour loss due to hitting water line and having to emergency run to get piping back at home depot again. ....then i mowed the side yard, front yard, and our amazon grassy area in the far field...the horses love it! That took me another hour, and i emptied the grass from the bag twice, carrying across an acre and back twice. .
i think it would be fair to put me down for 7 hours (420min. of ) cardio with strength...I am exhausted and slightly sunburned and windburned but we have to get back out there tomorrow to lay the garden area, plant the flowers, lay the seed for grass, cover with home made manure then lay other fertilizer on top, watering and welcome mj back! :)
:) goodnite :)
