I've done so well in the last few weight loss challenges that I'm getting near my goal weight. That's a scary time for me, when I usually lose it and put back on 25 pounds of fat! So I decided I needed to be even more involved in the NEXT weight loss challenge, and I'm going to lead it myself this time.

Here are the guidelines for Peter's Weight Loss Challenge:

  1. The challenge will run from Monday, May 5 through Monday, June 30, exactly eight weeks.

  2. You may join the challenge at any time beginning May 1, and late-comers are most welcome. You can even join the challenge in June.

  3. To join the challenge, post your starting weight and goal weight.

You may choose any goal you like. But if your goal is to lose more than 16 pounds during the challenge period -- more than two pounds a week -- please explain why you think your goal is realistic.

This website is dedicate to healthy, common sense, lasting weight loss and does not support crash diets which do not have realistic expectations of producing long-term results.

For more information, please see the Tutorial and the forum topic The Most Likely Reason Your Diet Will Fail.

  4. Pick a day for your weekly weigh-in, and stick to it a closely as you can. Then post your current weight each week.

You may wish to read:  How Often Should You Weigh Yourself

Those who are not losing weight, and those who are gaining, will receive praise for continuing to participate. It's so easy to run and hide! We've all been there ourselves.

We also know that by participating they are very likely doing better than they otherwise would be.

  5. The results will be updated every Wednesday and posted right here just below these instructions so they will always be easy to find.

We want the challenge stats to be realistic and reflect active challenge members, so anyone not posting for two consecutive weeks will be dropped from the list. But they will be put right back on the next week should they post again.

If you need to withdraw from the challenge, please have the courtesy to post a farewell note or send me a Private Message (PM). Your name will be removed without comment.

  6. You are encouraged to share how you are doing during the challenge, and especially to give each other support. However, to make it easier for me to find your weekly weight, please make sure your weight Stands Out.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to post them or send me a PM.

Tickers are completely optional, but kind of fun. If you want to learn how to make one, click on the Help link at the top of any forum page. These are my tickers from the three recent challenges:

New Year, New YOU! Challenge - January/February 2008:

Spring Fling Weight Loss Challenge - March/April 2008:

Peter's Weight Loss Challenge - May/June 2008:

Wishing you success and happiness!

I am new here to this forum but I want to join in this challenge. I usually have no motivation so hopefully this will change things! In the past year I put on 35lbs and am hoping to lose 10 of those pounds in this challenge.

I'm so excited the day is finally here! Ok, so right now I weigh 130 lbs and my goal is to get down to 115 lbs. I will make my day Friday to post in my weight. And just because I want to share, I would like to lose this weight because that's how much I weighed about 5 months ago and I felt great and fit into all my clothes really well so I want to get back to that again. I had lost 15 lbs last summer from running and the holiday season and college stress ruined me so here I go again! I'm starting to exercise my body as well as my mental discipline power again. WOO HOOO! Good luck to all!!

I want to participate in the challenge, but would like to pick a realist goal.  I routinely set goals and don't make them (I don't even get close.). Any advice?

I HAD been at 185 since LAST July, but have since (within the last month) gained an additional 5 lbs.  During May & June of last year I was able to lose 15 lbs. by exercising and SEMI following Nutrisystem.

Why don't you shoot for ten? That's 1.25 lbs a week which should be very attainable. If you see you are doing really well, you could always reset it, right?

Ok I'm in.

I weighed myself just now and I was 140.8

Course that's after lunch and everything, but I'm going to put that down anyway.

By the end of the challenge, I want to be...134.

I will make Tuesdays my weigh in day.

OK ~ I am going to chose a goal of 1.25 lbs. per week.  I will weigh myself Monday and start losing 1.25 lbs. per week for a total of 10 lbs. in 8 weeks.  Motivational Monday will be my weigh in day.

Do I post my progress @ this feed?

I will join the challenge.  I will be in China for 2 1/2 weeks in May, so don't delete me when you see me not posting.  I will post when I get back.  Now - maybe someone can help me think of a good goal that will include maintaining my weight or gaining some for the 2 1/2 weeks I will be gone.

anjan,

I just got back from a trip to visit my grand kids. In the past, I'd eat junk the whole trip and put on weight. But since I'm doing so well in these challenges, I actually lost weight!

The reason is -- with some fun exceptions -- I'd skip the junk, and just eat the healthy stuff. I guess there wasn't enough of it! LOL.

If you'll be on a tour with three meals a day, I think just maintaining would be a BIG challenge.

I don't want to encourage you to eat irresponsibly... if you do you'll feel bad about it and enjoy your trip less. But if this is a one-in-a-lifetime experience for you, I also don't want you ruining your fun worrying about your weight.

Do your best... have a good time... and we can adjust your goal if necessary when you get back!

Thanks Peter.  I am hoping to just maintain, which will be a challenge with 3 meals a day on a tour.  I just want to enjoy this trip of a lifetime.  The trip includes lots of walking and I hope to make use of the gyms at the hotels.  I don't want to not eat and not try new things, and I don't want to eat everything!  Hopefully, I will find a balance.

The Spring Challenge was good because it got me off the plateau I was on.  I am now on a new plateau and am a little discouraged at the moment.  This plateau has lasted the last two weeks.  I can honestly say that I have weighed and measured all my food, made good food choices and have worked out at the gym 5 days each week.  So, it is just a matter of time until I see the results on the scale - or so I tell myself.

I just don't know what to set as my goal for this challenge.  I was thinking about 5 pounds, because of my vacation.  In my frame of mind, I don't want to set myself up for failure.

Just across the sound from Seattle.  I am a transplanted Southern California girl and am starting to miss some warmer weather.  It is not coming fast enough this year.  But, nothing is prettier than the northwest.

I'm in, pal.  But you knew that didn't you?

My weigh in Monday will end the Spring Fling and start the new challenge.

NOTE: It's entirely conceivable that I'll hit my weight loss goal of 100 lbs during this challange.  I need all the encouragement I can get.

Let's kick butt, gang.

Hello

Another challenge - I am in - I am really going to try some new things to get off this weight plateau - When I started in January my weight was: 128 . Today I am at 122 but it goes up and down sometimes 123 or 124 but back to 122 when I behave.  So my goal for this challenge will still be 117.

I will post my weight on Friday or Saturday -

Wishing everyone a good challenge!

Another challenge, yay!

Really I am not sure otherwise that I will stay on track, so thank you Peter!

Current (starting) weight: 166.4

Goal weight: 160

But 159 will put me at a healthy BMI!

Here is a question, though...

If you spent two to four hours cleaning your house or working in the garden, would it be awful if you did not have a workout that day?

If you want to get technical, it depends on exactly what you are doing. Washing windows vs. dusting; racking up fall leaves or digging up a spring garden vs. picking flowers.

But if you're getting your home clean and/or having fun in the garden, well... don't pass that up for the gym!

Hey I didnt even realize until now that the Spring Challenge was ending! Im so glad you guys have these always go back to back.
My current weight as of last week was 138.  and Im going to have my goal as 134.  I know its not a huge weight loss goal but I am looking to maintain my weight loss at this stage.  Im also going to start training for a half marathon that i will be running in September so I may loose more than my goal.  But im keeping it at 134.

Thanks for keeping the challenges going!

Again my stats are
Current weight 138
Goal weight 134

Imaw89,

Your challenge seems very similar to mine.  I was 290 lbs in July of last year and began a fat reduction program on my own, based on knowledge aquired from this site's tutoral.  I've averaged 2 lbs a week lost and as of this morning I'm 205.  My goal is to get to 190 and then I'll fine tune it from there.

You can do this.  I know you can!!  Hang in there and stay focused.

Mornin' Peter,

As of this morning I'm 205 lbs.

Goal for the challenge is to lose 15 lbs.  Weigh in day Monday.

Everyone, this will put be at my long term goal of 100 lbs lost if I hit it.  I need everyone's encouragement.  You can count on mine too.

Thanks,

Bert
