Starting Weight:  136 lbs

Goal Weight:  128 lbs

Weigh-in Day:  Mondays

I just found this forum today and I think it is a neat coincidence that this challenge is starting today.  I hope it can help me stick to exercising and reach my goal.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Excuse the intrusion christyandmuddy, but I wanted to post the stats at the top of every page.

Hi there and welcome to the forums!

This is a great site and the tutoral is terrific.  It will give you knowledge to help you design a program you can live with for the rest of your life.

Glad your with us!

Little Ange wrote: I want to participate in the challenge, but would like to pick a realist goal.  I routinely set goals and don't make them (I don't even get close.). Any advice?

I HAD been at 185 since LAST July, but have since (within the last month) gained an additional 5 lbs.  During May & June of last year I was able to lose 15 lbs. by exercising and SEMI following Nutrisystem.

Hey Little Ange,

Read through the tutorals.  Often the problem with hitting goals is not having the knowledge we need to set a strategy.  The tutorals will give you the info you need about why we gain weight, what happens to our bodies, the effects of food, etc. and what we have to do to get the fat off.  Once you're armed with this knowledge you can develope a realistice program for yourself.

Set up a chart by week and track your progress.  Don't focus on the ultimate goal but rather focus on small accomplishments.  1-2 lbs a week is a safe and healthy loss.  If you only lose a half pound or hit a plateau in a given week, don't get discouraged.  This is a lifestyle change.  Don't look at this as a short term thing.  Realisticly, if you average a pound a week in a year you'll have lost 52 lbs.  That's a big deal.  Just take baby steps and combine right food choices and exercise.  It's about calories in vs. calories used.

Glad you're with us!!

Bert

I'm at 128 and I'm going to make my goal to lose a pound a week. Hopefully easily being able to reach or even surpass the goal will make it easier for me to stay motivated. So, goal weight for June 30th is 120.

Which i'm doing today by not going to the clinic for the cinco de mayo(sp) luncheon cause I know I don't need it.

start today wt is 301.8

gw is 291.8

A total of 10lbs, want to be consertative this time...  Thanks Peter!!!!

Aww, there's a space left for me. Now I have to enter myself!

My starting weight is 125.2lb.

My goal weight is 121lb. Approximately 0.5lb a week. I'm setting this low, as so close to goal and getting other priorities right I can't lose what I used to - and I don't want to discourage myself! I'm still in this fight. :)

I'd like to congratulate all of you for having realistic goals, with no one looking to lose more than two pounds a week.

Actually two a week can be very EASY when you make a radical change from eating lots of junk food to only healthy food, even if you eat quite a bit. But as time goes on the weight loss slows down, and it becomes unrealistic to try to lose too quickly. Doing so usually results in failure.

All totaled, we have a goal of almost 300 pounds and I'm sure it will be over 300 when the last members post their goals. I think often those with the biggest goals tend to lose the least, simply because they were being unrealistic and got discouraged. But I'm not really as judgemental about this as I sound.

I say that because one thing I have learned is that we are all very different. Perhaps someone with a big goal will lose very little, but they would have lost less if they had a smaller goal! Doesn't work that way for me, but as I say... we're all very different.

Perhaps someone with a big goal will lose the most!

I heavily advertised the New Year New YOU! Challenge in the cph newsletter which I was still publishing at that time, so we had LOTS of members and new members sign up. But very many dropped out.

I'm excited to recognize so many of the members of this challenge, and welcome the new comers. Let's all encourage each other to do our very best.

Best wishes,

Hi Cport,

You could go with the end for the Spring Fling you sent in.  You recorded 125 lbs as an end to that one.

No, not really. I noticed that someone did and many picked up on it and started posting their weigh-in days. Perhaps it's to let me know so I won't think they've forgotten. But I don't really need to know.

Everyone can weigh themselves any day they like and post weekly. I actually take an average of several days since my weight jumps around.

I'll update the stats every Wednesday, if not more often. I do tend to be compulsive!

Thanks,

Just popping in to report I'm at 187 today.

That's 83# lost since August 1.  17# to go to hit the big 100# and ultimately another 20# to go after that.

Bert and I are in a tight, tight race to see who can hit the 100# first.  We've been neck and neck for a while.  Would love to cross that mark with you, Bert!  Off to the gym for some body step and body pump.

Ok, I said I would weigh in on fridays. Well, I don't like what the scale was telling me this morning. So, I will post on monday what my weigh in is. Hopefully, this is just my scale playing tricks on me and it will be back to normal on monday.

That's why I weigh daily and basically use an average... so it being off a day or two isn't misleading or upsetting.

This week I worked on eating better, including more fruits and veggies.

I also fit exercise in every day, even if it was only 25 minutes.

For these efforts I am up to 167.6!

No pain no gain, right? :dizzy:

larrabeeskot,

If you've changed your diet, you need to give it some time to adjust to the changes and figure quantities out.

Don't get discouraged... eating more fruits and veggies is a good thing!

I know, I have also been counting calories diligently! I am not discouraged, really, I just take it as life - "you know the best laid plans ..."

Since November I have lost 18 pounds and feel so much better - emotionally and  physically - that I am kind of satisfied with staying right here. I am 5'8" so it is not like I am in clinical danger, my BMI is just a bit higher than I would like. I would also like to lose this lingering double chin!

Thanks Peter,

Laura

Laura,

Don't pay too much attention to BMI.  That's a pretty outdated measurement.  Consider a 6'4" NFL quarterback that weighs 240.  His BMI would be 29.2 and that's the high side of "Over weight."  I've known some of these guys and they're anything but over weight.  They're all muscle.

Keep doing what you're doing.  You're doing great!!!!

I know, I have been weighing almost everyday. But, I keep going up and down. I wish it would just stay down. It's stressing me out, and then I don't do good on my eating habits.

So, I am not going to weigh again until monday. Maybe I can stay more focused instead of worring about the stupid scale.

I've been running and excercising a lot this past week and my weight has actually increased, not to mention my fall back last week and eating a whole bunch :(. I'm weighing in at 134 right now. But I know I can do this. I must be burning fat though, because all my clothes are starting to fit looser. Weird.

I would like to join as well.  Lets see June 30 that is just over a month.  I am very near one of my plateaus so I will make my goal 8 lbs.

Starting wt.: 155 lbs.

Goal wt.: 147 lbs.

Weigh Day: Wednesday

I am a little nervous, with my hubby comin' home for R and R from Iraq I will have to try twice as hard not to eat this great food I am gonna be fixin'.  Lasagna and hamburgers...  I am wanting to lose 5 lbs asap and hope I don't gain it back!!!  (I originally set my goal at 5 lbs.; 150 is a big plateau for me but I thought I would go a little beyond.)

GOOD LUCK ALL!!!:clover:
