I gained 2 lbs . Obviously I wasn't ready for a challenge this time with all the changes in my life, but I will keep reporting my weight no matter how ugly it gets.

Hi all,
No loss this week. Still at 210 lbs but I'm feeling good! I lost 3 lbs each week for the previous two weeks and this weekend I bought two pair of size 38 slacks and, dare I say it, underwear!
I didn't lose weight this week but I'm losing inches!!!
Don't give up! Everyone stay strong!!

194 today.
Life has been crazy lately...mostly good. Sorry I haven't been here much. I joined the health club and have been doing body pump, body step, pilates, and tai chi classes. Working out about 2-3.5 hours daily. Also puppy sitting a 7 week old Beagle for a dear friend until school is out in early May. Kids activities have been one right after the other. Will try to update my diary soon and chat with Bert in the buddy section. I haven't been much of a buddy lately. Sorry!

Good morning,
Okay, I was sick every other week in March. Just getting over a sore thoat/cold I picked up from my grandson! Enough is enough! I haven't been sick for 5 years ~ so what is with this? Good to get is over with in one fell swoop, I guess.
Anyhow, no exercising and no recording of calories shows in the weigh in. Eating comfort foods when sick doesn't help either.
Current weight: 150
I find it hard to get back into the swing of things when I've ventured off that path! Dang!

Greentea,
Don't be so hard on yourself. You're still headed downward on the scale and this is going to be a lifestyle change for you. Don't set a deadline for yourself. Enjoy the cruise and try to exercise and watch some of what you eat. When you get home just hit it again. You'll be fine.

Same as last week:
New Year, New YOU! Challenge - Jan/Feb 2008:

Spring Fling Weight Loss Challenge - Mar/Apr 2008:

But over that past week I lost another percent of body fat and switched from the "fat" jeans I bought for comfort over the holidays back to my "slimmer" jeans. So I'm happy!

Hi everyone,
I just wanted to let you know that as a group, we've lost 170.4 lbs since the challenge began!!
This is fantastic!!!!!
Remember, if you don't lose something for a given week that's ok. This isn't about short term results. We're in this for life and it's the changes we make in our lives that will help us to lose fat and stay lean.
Remember too that we want to lose fat. If we exercise we're going to build muscle and we want that. Muscle weighs more than fat so don't worry about it.
Let's stay strong together!!!

With my weight down and my muscles showing again, I'm starting to get compliments at the gym. Today someone said they'd noticed I'd lost some weight, and asked what I did. My answer?
I told them I'd entered a number of these forum challenges! I really think they've made the difference.
Of course they were expecting me to answer with diet tips, and I have plenty to share. But you can lose weight on just about any diet. What's important is keeping it off... and I seem to be succeeding!
Thanks everyone for all your support!

Fun? It was fun before I hurt my back and I could actually exercise off these pounds I guess 6lb in 4 and a half weeks isn't bad. Works out at 1.33lb a week, so theoretically I should make it. Frustrated though.

Thanks Bert for the encouraging words.
I wanted to lose the weight this time around for the cruise so that I wouldn't go over 176 (my highest ever) It was a practical move for the short term but I will have as much leaway as I can with whatever I lose and when I come home there will be another week left for the challenge and we'll see what happens then...this challenge,my first, is always on my mind which is good when you go for the cookie....lol

OK, so I didn't weigh in until 6 days after I am supposed to. I didn't weign in out of fear. My worst fear is true. I gained 3 pounds and am now at 126 lbs. Ohhhh, I am so mad and mostly depressed, I just feel like slinking out of my chair to the ground and dying. I am so tired of being overweight. The worst part of it is I know I used to look really good and was thin, but I got married, had a baby and let myself go.
Can anyone give me a really good diet plan? Obviously what I am doing isn't working.

Hi Monkey,
The first thing I would suggest to you is get rid of the word "diet" in your vocabulary. In my mind the term "diet" implys something short term. What we're trying to do with respect to losing fat, is to make lifestyle changes that will last us for the rest of our lives. This said, don't worry about gaining a few pounds in a given week. We'll always be up or down depending on the particular week and what's happening in our lives. I have to go to a wedding this week and I'm going to try and watch what I eat but you know how weddings can be. If I gain or don't lose anything I'm not going to worry about it as I'm focused on the long haul and not the short term.
The other thing is where you are with respect to your existing weight and how you view it. If you're working out, you're mostlikely building some muscle. Muscle is heavier than fat so what you see on the scale may not be indicative of your size. Don't use the scale as your only indicator. Focus on how your clothes fit and get someone to help you determine your body fat content. I'll bet it's not that much. Do more strength training and increase your aerobic exercise duration and you'll see results. Remember, we want to lose fat and not muscle.
Make sure you eat several times a day. All too often we try to lose weight by not eating and that's the worst thing we can do. Start the day with a good, lean breakfast of some whole grain bread or oatmeal, a little protein and some fruit. Have a piece of fruit in mid morning, a lean lunch, another piece of fruit mid afternoon and a lite dinner. Use the calculator on this site to determine what your calorie intake should be for the weight you want to be at. http://www.caloriesperhour.com/index_burn.php Just plug in your info and the weight you want to be at and it will list your calorie intake. Make sure you're religious with your counting. After a while you'll begin to recognize what foods and the portion size and you won't have to count. You'll just know where you are.
You're 126 lbs. Don't be so hard on yourself. Live life and be happy with who you are and look at your lifestyle in general. If you have a healthy mode of living you'll get to where you want to go.
Hang in there and be strong.
Bert
