Hi Peter
I read the tutorial months ago. I am very familiar with the site. According to all statistics I should eat around 1295 calories.I will try (no, WILL) eat 1200 with a little extra room for more and hope to lose 2 pounds per week which will bring me to about 16 lbs in 8 weeks. I hope I hope. I walk every day 1 mile and burn about 100 calories. I am going to concentrate on just moving briskly everyday for about an hour. I have tried this diet and exercise plan so many times but failed. I am going to use this challenge to finally do it and with the cruise week coming up I just cringe at the thought of packing on more pounds, so I have no choice...this has got to be it. Hope springs eternal!
Thanks Peter

This is my first challenge! I think it will keep me motivated.
Starting weight: 125.5 lbs
Goal weight for challenge: 120 lbs
Ultimate goal weight: 112 lbs
Wish me luck! I kept my goal small because I find I lose weight very slowly at this point.

Looking forward to the journey & the challenge! Lots of exercise & a food diary are my tricks.

Hello
This is the my first day reporting in on the new challenge - I did not make my goal for the New Year - New You challenge but it was not realistic for me so I am glad to continue on my quest. My initial weight was 128 and I was hoping to reach 117lbs by 2/29 - however I weighed in at 123 today so here I am. My goal is still the same - but I have less to lose - 6 pounds by the end of this challenge.
I am going to attach my ticker - when I get it off of my old challenge forum.
Let the Spring Fling begin!!!

SW = 155+/- 5
Goal for challenge = 145+/-5
Can I do this withouth messing up your stats? My weight bounces so much (even when I am drinking water and cutting salts) each month that I don't even consider a loss on the scale real until it exceeds 5 lbs, taken in the morning.

I truly believe that 2lbs a week is realistic if I stay focused and I do need to challenge myself. So starting weight is 198lbs My goal weight is 180lbs for the 5th May. May we all strive to reach our goals. Thanks Monkey809. It's what I continuously need.

Well, make room for the heavy weight...
I have to weigh in at 270. I guess I gained a little water weight since last week.
My goal is going to be 250.
Thanks for starting this new challenge, Monkey (jealous that you weigh less than the amount I have to lose... ) LOL!
Good luck and God bless to everyone!

276 you might ask? That would represent a weight loss of 31 pounds since New Years which would be a 10 percent loss of my total weight. I read or heard somewhere that losing just 10 % of your weight decreases my health risk.
Thanks for running the challenge.

I glad so many people are joining this challenge. I have some real motivation now. I have an embaressing story to tell you guys.
Yesteday when I was out and about at a huge public park event, I bent over to fix a kite and I hear "rrrrrrrrriiiiiiiiiiiippppppppp" my pants split. I am just so overweight that now my clothes can't withstand my expanding body! I am now really motivated with the embaressing moment and helping to run this challenge with Bert. I know I can do it. I have finally decided, I am truly tired of being overweight and I am really going to do something about it!!! I really hope this motivation lasts!

Y'know, at first I decided to skip this challenge because I did so poorly on the last two. After reading the positive posts here I figured I better bite the bullet and try again. I really shouldn't give up.
So, here I am again. I weighed myself this morning at 231 I think (I can't remember, my weight fluxuates so much between 230 and 235). My goal is to lose 2 pounds per week so at the end of March I hope to lose 16 pounds and weigh 215 pounds.
I'm going to go back to posting my food intake, steps and excercise on my diary here. Lets see if that helps me achieve my goal.Last edited on 3 March 2008 02:19 pm by CodeMonkey

Thanks, Monkey, for sharing your "ripped" story. I have a lot of clothes in my closet that I can't wear right now. I guess I not only need to lose a few pounds, but figure out how to do a "reallocation" of the rest of the pounds. Hmmmm.........wouldn't it be nice if we could do a "cut and paste" on our bodies?
Starting weight: 125.5
Goal weight: 122
A loss of 3.5 pounds doesn't sound like much of a challenge, but that's what I missed the yellow line by in the last go-round. This time, it's really baby steps! Additionally, losing a lot of weight has never been my problem, BUT keeping to a healthy diet, rather than a binge and starve routine, has been a trial for most of my life.
Good luck to everyone taking part. Off we go...............

spbeef,
Since you've calculated kg to lb I'm going to round up for the list if that's ok with you.
I'll list you as 149 LBs with a goal of 135 lbs. Will that work for you?

H Seabiscuit,

I'm doing this in conjunction with Monkey809 so if you could highlight your numbers in red it would help us to pick them out. These old eyes don't see as well as they used to.

| So I am curious. What is everyone's plan of attack on loosing weight this challenge. I just don't know what to do. Right now I am trying the no-low carb thing. I am thinking about doing that for 2 weeks and then slowly eating a few carbs and excercising. I know I loose quite a bit when I do the no carb thing.

I'm doing what's been working since July. I'm eating between 1200 and 1500 calories a day. I'm eating lean meats, eggs, fruit for between meal snacks, oatmeal, whole wheat English muffins (Weight Watchers), veggies and plenty of exercise. For example, I didn't work out Sunday as I was at church most of the day so today I did 52 minutes on the stationary bike at a average speed of 35 kilometers (can't change it to mph). Tomorrow I'll do 30-40 min. and lift weights. I'll alternate this and take a break Friday.
I'm averaging 2 lbs a week and that's working pretty well.
Oh, I also drink a gallon of water each day.

What I do (that has gotten me from 202 last Aug to 158 now)...
Food: 4-6 'meals' a day. Around 1300-1600 calories. Tons of fruit and veggies. Very little red meat. No soda or other sugary drinks. I don't eat or drink anything with either high fructose corn syrup or partially hydrogenated oils in it. I've switched to mostly organic foods as well. Not really to help with weight loss but to be healthier overall.
Exercise: weights 3x a week. 3 sets full body each time. Cardio 30-60 minutes 6-7 days a week plus my Tae Kwon Do class 2-3 times a week.
It's been working so far so I'm sticking to my routine.

Okay, I'm here for another weight-loss challange! I fell just 1lb shy of the goal last challange, and I think my goal was a bit too high, so I will be a bit more reasonable for this challange and say my goal is to lose 10lbs in two months, which is reasonable I think!
Starting weight: 200
Starting weight for challange: 142

| You now what really gets me down. I have been wearing the same clothes for the last 2-3 years. I bought them when I was thinner and now that I am larger, my jeans are always tight, my shirts are kinda short and I just look stupid. I don't want to buy new clothes until I am thin again, but I am so sick of sitting at my desk with my pants so tight, it is uncomfotable. It makes me so mad that I just give up feeling that I will never be thin...

Monkey,
I know what you mean. I've had to bite the bullet more than once over the last 8 months to buy new clothes. I didn't have any, with the exception of some shirts, and it makes me mad that I've spent money but I have to do it all over again as what I have now is getting loose. I know; it's a good problem to have but a costly one. I'm trying to buy on the cheap.
Check out Good Will stores in your area. You can get some decent things that could fit and it's not too expensive. Look for the BoGos in your deparment stores too.

thank you Kendra. I was thinking of just getting a pair of black track pants or something and wearing those. Luckily my office has no dress code so jeans, flip flops, anything goes.
You know what else I was thinking that may help motivate people! Post a before and after picture. Of course right now we would be posting our before pictures. Then at the end of the challenge let's post our after pictures. Then we all can see the difference and how hard we have worked to loose weight. I don't have a good pic yet, but I will take one and post it.
